King Pho has a wide variety of Vietnamese noodles, pan-Asian dishes, and appetizers. They're located on Devon off the Central/Devon intersection. I usually eat here with my family and we started eating here about a year ago - a change of scenery from the Argyle area and there's easy parking in the back lot. It seems like their restaurant is more packed each time and people are constantly coming in to pick up their carry-out - a good sign for their business and speaks to the growing popularity of their food. The wait to eat here is never too long. Their restaurant is family-friendly and they have a kids menu with five options at $4.75. Most recently, I ordered a large bowl of pho (#62: beef slices, tendon, tripe) but it didn't have as much garnish; chopped onion, parsley, and green onion as I remembered. The broth was a little bland and so I'm gonna end my pho-only streak here. In the future, I'll probably try something else off their menu. I've tried the (#77) Vermicelli Tom Yum Soup, Orange Chicken, and their Singapore noodles which are family favorite; spicy and it's a fragrant, flavorful stir-fry of rice noodles, vegetables, shrimp, chicken, and BBQ pork. Their pork chop rice plate and vermicelli bowls are also delicious. Maybe I'll branch out to try (#70) Bun Bo Hue and their banh mi's. All in all, this is a great place on the Northside to get Vietnamese and pan-Asian food. Even though their name is King Pho, pho is not the only thing you should order here. read more

I would've totally given no stars in the past due to their poor service and have not returned here for about 2 years. I came for a lunch since someone wanted to drop by. What a great meal I had! The service and food was such a pleasant experience! In the past I've dined on weeknight, weekend lunch, and it's always been 80-100% restaurant occupancy with poor service. I love their nem nuong spring rolls because it's something I can't get elsewhere, or at least from the Vietnamese restaurants I've been to in Chicagoland. I'm so glad I got to come back because their nem nuong is really tasty and I've missed it but it's been so bad in the past I'd rather not come than go through the stress. Coming on a weekday lunch hour, the restaurant was 20% occupied. The server was very attentive. I had a Vietnamese server today whereas in the past, it was a non-Vietnamese. The ethnicity of the server should not matter with the service, but in the past, the server was not knowledgeable at all and had to keep going back and forth to check what the items were, and also messed up our orders as well. Today's lady knew the menu inside out and knew when I ordered based off a number, she knew what the item name was. The server took our order at a good time, continuously refilled our water, asked if we needed anything, made our things to-go for the unfinished food, and split the check per our request. The food also came out pretty fast. In the past, I remember having to wait such a long time before anything came out. We were able to order food, eat, and pay in less than an hour. During my dinner experiences in the past, we spent close to 2 hours not because we ate so slowly, but because we had to wait to get our food order taken, food coming out, and to get our paycheck. Not to mention didn't get any refill in water. I'd totally come back during weekday lunch hours. I'm so glad I was able to figure out when I can come because their food is actually good, it's the poor service that made me traumatized of "King Pho". Ordered $42 worth of food online. Received a call to say they were out of bread to make Bahn Mi and that they'd cancelled the order and to check back to make sure it clears from our credit card. A couple of callouts below: -If you are out of something, customers should not be able to order and pay for it. -The charge certainly went through so whatever you did on your end was insufficient to cancel the order and I will now have to follow-up with my credit card company. -This is a waste of time and effort and will ensure that we never patronize the business again. read more

I am half-Vietnamese and grew up eating Vietnamese food at home, so I was pleasantly surprised by their Bun Bo Hue dish, a spicy soup, with heartier flavors than pho. The kids enjoyed their items off the kids menu and the smoothies were reasonably priced (aka $2 cheaper than comparable establishments.) My wife at the rice dish with lemon grass grilled pork and everything was great. Service was quick and accommodating. Understand I went in with zero expectations and now would definitely come back. I know I love my Pho and I'm always looking for another option besides Tank as it's overcrowded and become more and more touristy. There are so many options in the Argyle area that it's almost very hard to find parking so I'm always open to venturing out. My parents took me to King Pho recently and to my surprise, it was quite tasty. I saw that they had the Vietnamese Crepe and since my parents had never tried it before, we decided to order it and it was super nice and crispy. In addition, we ordered pork chops and of course the Pho which I opted for the BIG size. Go big or go home, am i right? Anyways, the large portion came and I was the happiest little boy. I filled my bowl of hot soup with bean sprouts, basil and of course some jalapaneo with the seeds removed. It was the perfect amount of spice and rich beef flavor. Not only was the food good, the place also has ample seating which is great for large parties. They also have their own parking lot in the back which is always a plus. I had dinner earlier at King Pho today. I ordered couple rice dishes, it was not bad. On of the dishes I ordered supposed to come with pork skin, but it did not when it arrived to the table. But after I finished, they charged us a different price compared to what was on the menu. When I asked the waitress, she told me that the owner wanted to finish their old menus first. I told her that's misleading. I also told her that I had no problems for the raising their prices, but the way they did it was very misleading and dishonest. I told her she could have told me when I ordered the food. But she kept telling me it was the owners fault plus most importantly she didn't apologize. When I asked her about the pork skin on the rice dish, she told me they didn't have it do they substituted with the sausages. King Pho moved into my hometown neighborhood a few years back...I'm so glad they did! With each passing year that they have been around, King Pho has quickly become a local favorite and even for my close friends (who live right outside Chicago's borders). The space is big, but inviting. The service is friendly, unpretentious, and helpful when describing new dishes. The prices are fantastic, with generous serving sizes. What I Got: Pad See Ew with Chicken and Banh Xeo (Egg crepe with meat and seafood) Worth Your Money? My entree was about $11 after tax, the Banh Xeo ~$7.50/8. The price to quantity ratio is perfect. We got there around 6:30 and the place was packed. We got the last table right by the door. It's nice to have a Vietnamese restaurant as one of my favorite places Saigon Grill shut their doors (bummer) We ordered a Banh Xeo appetizer. A crispy crepe with shrimp, pork, bean sprouts & mung bean. They accidentally brought the Bahn Xeo Jay by accident, unfortunately the outside looks the same, but the inside had tofu, bananas, bean sprouts served with a sweet and sour sauce. Like I said the outside of the crepe looked the same so I cut it open. We brought this to the attention of the server and she promptly brought out the correct order. (Kudos for the quick correction) We ordered a large Pho Tai Nam w/tender pieces of beef brisket in a tasty beef broth. The pho came with the normal compliment of bean sprouts, Thai basil (I love the flavor of Thai basil), jalapeños & limes. The large serving is a generous portion and was more then enough for 2 people. Overall it was a pretty good dining experience. The service was pretty good. Probably the best place around this neighborhood! I've been here twice so far as the food has been spot on both times. The food would have been a 4 star performance but the service is nothing to praise. The Pho noodles are good and what you can find around argyle and not having to fight for parking. The clay pot rices are really good cause the rice is crisp at the bottom of the pot giving it more flavor and texture. The bah mi sandwiches are cheaper then going to argyle and they come with fries. They have plenty of street parking in front but also have parking on the back of the restaurant. It's a nice neighborhood and you can take a nice walk in the forest preserve if you want to walk off all the food you just ate. Ordered takeout and received a very warm and well packaged food. Pho was great. Broth was flavorful and rich with the herbal flavors. The best thing was the singapore noodles. Ordered Buon Bo Hue: color is great, no blood cubes (traditional), had Cha Lua (not traditional), good portion size Vermicelli bowl: lemongrass pork, Bi (cold noodle with shredded pork as a powdery taste), good portion and was shared between two gals. Friends ordered: Pho: traditional beef meatballs, thin slices of beef good portion size Kids pho: same just smaller portion Banh Xeo: appetizer, crepe like with bean sprouts, pork, shrimp... poured nicely. Not too thick or thin. Good time. Not busy on a Saturday which is great as I've seen this place packed before. Definitely swing by and give it a try. We went in on a busy Friday evening and got seated right away. We ordered the tofu spring rolls for the appetizer and they were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Like, i dream about these rolls kind of amazing. Then we wait for my friend's Pho and my Orange Chicken, which lets be real, is pretty basic enough of a dish to not get screwed up. Well our food comes out and my orange chicken dish has this distinct, nasty smell to it. Anyways, i pick up the fork in the plate and see buried in it's sauce, a ling, black and white strand of hair. EW. i showed the server who promptly took it away and brought me a fresh one after about 20 minutes. Whatever, my friend liked their Pho and i loved the rolls so we thought we would give them one more chance since theyre close to home for me. This brings me to my second experience here. This experience was amazing from start to finish! We ordered the tofu spring rolls, of course! And i got the Pad Thai for my meal and my friend got the Lemongrass Chicken Bun Mhi. King Pho is an OK place for pho. The pho broth was hot and the bowls met our expectations. Wife had their regular #64 ($8.95, beef slices, brisket, and tripe) and I had their big #56 ($9.95, brisket, and tendon). The outside storefront looks bright but the interior feels a bit dated. I usually order the Vegan Pho and share the tofu spring rolls or fried tofu. This is a great place for vegetarian pho and their service is always great. This past time I asked for less noodles and extra broth because I wanted to finish the Pho but the portions, even for a regular, are so big I still couldn't finish it haha. This place has roaches. Came for dinner and there was one crawling all over the table. They keep their spoons in a stack on the table so just imagine what was crawling on your utensil next time you go eat. We had already ordered when we saw it. I didn't touch my food because I was so grossed out. Looking at older reviews, there are several other people who have repeatedly said the same thing up to 4 years ago so this is clearly an on going problem that they're doing nothing about. One of the reviews reported finding a roach in a bowl of pho. Absolutely disgusting, I'd rather starve then come back to this restaurant. We reported this to the Cook County Department of Health and included the claims from previous reviews for more evidence. read more

I am ashamed I waited so long to try King Pho, but I'm a snob about getting Vietnamese food anywhere but Argyle St. And I'm not afraid to say I was wrong. We've been ordering King Pho for delivery once or twice a month since early summer and everything is consistently great. The crispy pancake is addictive and generously loaded with shrimp and pork. The pork chops equal the best ones on Argyle. My favorite, pho with brisket and tendon, smells and tastes divine. Get it with "extra soup large" on the side and you'll have all sorts of reasons to enjoy soup all week. What's rare and special is that King Pho sweats the small stuff: the bags of garnish for pho are always perfect: I've never gotten a bad lime wedge, the sprouts are crisp, the herbs fresh. This is not your average takeout. If you order an entree that comes with rice, you'll get more than enough for making great fried rice the next day.
