Over four years since my last review, we're still enjoying the consistently fresh and good food at Asian Kitchen Express. Now that we're beyond the pandemic, we order and pick up instead of having it delivered, and it's still the same tasty food as we first discovered in 2020. Our most recent order included General Tso's Chicken (still my husband's favorite, which he said this time was sweeter and not as spicy as when he's had it before), and Ham Egg Foo Yung (mine, and it was good, but I do wish there was a little more seasoning either in the patty or the gravy -- it was blander than I'm used to from other places). I called in the order at dinnertime on a Friday night, and it was ready in 15 minutes as promised. I call that a huge win! We're so lucky to have this place close to home. read more

100% solid 4 star. Service was fast and friendly. Only to-go location. I will say, it was a bit steep on pricing but the quality they give and the portion sizes they give were well worth the shot. I'd personally hold off of the potstickers as they were a bit too greasy. Everything else was pretty tasty. I don't usually write reviews right after finishing a meal, but this one really stayed with me. I've been working through the holidays in the service industry, and it's been exhausting in every sense. Long days, little rest, barely any appetite, I've mostly been getting by on whatever was quick at work. After finally making it through New Year's, I decided to stop and pick up something on my way home. I called my order in and was quoted 15 minutes. The woman on the phone was kind and welcoming. When I arrived a little earlier than expected, my order was already ready. The restaurant was bright and clean, and the gentleman at the counter was so helpful. After the week I'd had, that interaction alone meant a lot. When I got home, my food was still piping hot and carefully packed. You could taste the freshness of the ingredients, and everything felt thoughtfully prepared, like someone actually cared about what they were sending out the door. It's located in a strip mall on the east side of Cicero just north of Devon Ave. They have a nice selection of Chinese food & its conveniently located. That being said they are a mainly a carry out restaurant w/a couple of tiny tables. For us it's kind of conveniently located not too far from the house. We ordered 2 dishes the shrimp egg foo young & fish fillet. The shrimp egg foo young came w/large shrimps & was pretty good. The fish fillet was ok but nothing special. It's difficult to write a review for me after only one visit, unless there was something incredibly noteworthy or if the experience warranted some type of heads up for the Yelp community. Nee how ma (Hello) Asian Kitchen Express, there was that distinct Cantonese taste that reminded me of the type of cooking that I grew up on and it triggered a lot of fond memories. Thank you for that, sincerely, Xie xie. It's certainly different from Sichuan or Fukien style, so this was awesome!! Not that those styles are any less or better. The shrimp egg foo young...it was light, fluffy and plump - with huge shrimps and a sauce that's similar to what you would have on a moco loco (Rainbows). If this quintessential dish is wrong, that's a deal breaker for me, so my meal was off to a good start!! The pad Thai with beef, shrimp and chicken - that was weird and it was a protein overload but it still tasted authentic in that, the cooking didn't deviate from how it should taste. I'll probably just stick to chicken, next time around. The Mongolian beef was loaded with beef and tasted very very good. A nice ratio between veggies and beef. Now the crab Rangoon was the biggest surprise for me, there were many and all were stuffed with cream cheese - a pure delight!! As of a few weeks ago this storefront has changed hands yet again. The carryout continues to be a fast food Chinese carryout and unless you carefully looked into one of their darkened windows and saw the new signage, you would think you are buying food from the previous restaurant Go Go China. The inside of the carryout looks as if the old owner walked out leaving everything intact. Like their neon signage offering Thai food and sushi. However, the Asian Kitchen only offers a couple Thai dishes and no sushi. This new company hit the scene fast launching a website (with viewable menus) from the start. Although there isn't much description of entrees given. When I entered I was accompanied by one of their workers that had returned from picking up food for his lunch break. Guy came in with a bag of McDonald's, sat down and started to eat. (Management should consider the action. Employees taking up dining room space eating food from competitors.) The whole place was smelling like fast food. The smell marketing started to work in favor of Mcd's, because I thought about leaving and visiting a local grill by me. Instead, I weighed the options of fresh vs fast food and ended up staying. Put in an order for potstickers, shrimp fried rice and a special plate of three ingredient Mongolian. I added a special request of everything spicy. Food was ready in about 25 minutes. How was it? The shrimp fried rice had an ample serving of large shrimp pieces and the potstickers were super doughy with a forgettable filling inside. All in all it was an average tasting experience. For strip mall fast food Chinese they are priced like the average stand-alone, sit down restaurant. However I am not seeing or tasting the value of the spend. For those that are like.. eh, what does he know. For that thirty something dollar spend, my carryout bag was heavy with foods. You may enjoy that feature. read more

Receiving a menu in the mail and then seeing the many positive Yelp reviews told us it was time to give AKE a spin. Ordering online through SlickMenus was a snap. Online coupons were offered and we opted for a free order of crab Rangoon. The estimated delivery time (on a Saturday evening) was 55-65 minutes, but happily our order arrived in just 25 minutes. Their carryout packaging, with entrées in sturdy see-thru containers, was above average. The Missus and I shared a large hot & sour soup. Loaded with tofu, white meat chicken, mushrooms and other goodies, this was superb and the "hot" was within our comfort range. The egg rolls were not the least bit greasy and the filling was very good, but the wrap was overly thick. The crab Rangoon was possibly the best I've ever had; 6 crispy wontons bursting with a generous amount of crab and cream cheese mix. We shared two entrées. The shrimp with peapod ($11.50 for a huge portion) had freshly prepared jumbo shrimp amid a ton of crunchy peapods in a garlicky sauce. A container of white rice was included. Combination pan fried noodles (large, $10.95) was our only disappointment. The noodles were packaged separately to prevent them from getting soggy--a plus--but the accompanying stir-fried meats and veggies were overcooked and bland. We had to drench this in soy sauce. Next time, we'll try some spicier dishes. read more

Got there Menu in the mail the other day & decided to give them a try. 4 Stars for not having Chinese Broccoli. I ordered 30 min prior to closing. But everything still came fresh. I ordered the Salt & Pepper Shrimp (which was well seasoned and not too salty), Jumbo Shrimp Fried Rice (pretty good), Beef Broccoli (beef was good and broccoli was crunchy), Beef Chow Fun (good amount of meat & noodles). Almost forgot about the Ma Po Tofu with ground pork (really good tofu will definitely order this again). The Crab Ragoons & Egg Rolls i would not order again. We wanted to make a tradition of having Chinese Food for Christmas dinner. This has been really a problem due to 1) there being a pandemic, and 2) a lot of the old hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurants falling by the wayside. Here's what this restaurant did well: Egg rolls were excellent - this is pretty much how I measure a Chinese restaurant. My daughter had vegetable delight. The vegetables were fresh and crisp but the sauce had zero flavor. My son had sesame chicken which was pretty decent. I had egg foo yung which was also good. My wife had mu shu vegetables. The vegetables were incredibly over-salted. Quick service, and you get a lot of food for your money. If you stick with the standards, you're OK - but the mu shu and vegetables definitely need some work. read more

It's nice to find a place that has the Americanized Chinese food I was craving. I don't always need culturally-authentic Chinese, and it's always disappointing to check a "Chinese" place's menu and find it full of Vietnamese, Filipino, and everything but actual Chinese. If you want something like authentic Chinese, go to Chinatown. If you want the best American-style strip-mall suburban Chinese, go here. Believe me, I've been looking for a while and I've usually been disappointed. My first order was good and I'll be going back. They deliver, but takeout was ready quickly and piping hot when I got home. They have online ordering, which is a huge plus so you and the restaurant are on exactly the same page with no language barrier to confuse things. Egg rolls tasted exactly like I was expecting without any of that odd under-taste so many other places have. Same with the egg drop soup; silky, glossy, and flavored right. I have ordered from twice -- and I recommend ordering direct on their website rather than a 3rd party delivery. The delivery fee was higher but the prices ordering direct were less expensive than the 3rd/UE party delivery. So take note! And.... the food came very hot when ordering direct. The food is good -- hits and some just OK, hence the 4 stars. As someone else mentioned, the egg rolls are terrific. So filled with meat and veggies, not the skinny type but really good and crunchy. Love them. Get them. One is filling, two can be a meal. We have gotten Pad Thai, Kung Pao Chicken, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Hawaiian Fried Rice and Chicken Fried Rice. Kung Pao is terrific, next time I will ask for a little spicier. Both fried rice were terrific, full of chicken and eggs. The Hawaiian has pineapple which was a good addition. The Pad Thai is OK, I think it needs more flavor. And the Sweet and Sour is OK, I wish the sauce was more sour than sweet. But the portions are GENEROUS. The Pad Thai is enough for three meals at least. I needed to find a different Chinese take out and I think this is going to be the new place and excited to try new dishes. After this last experience ordering directly, I will continue doing it that way -- hot food and better prices. read more
