Made us sick! I got the sea bass. My husband helped me finish it because it was a large piece. About 1 to 2 hours after eating It, we were running for the bathroom...I'll spare you the gory details. The sea bass was the only thing we ate that was in common, which is why I think it was seabass that made us sick. No one else at our table got sea bass. The sea bass didn't wow me. It seemed a tad dry, but I'd never had it before so maybe it was supposed to be like that?? I don't see what the hype is about sea bass...I've had just as good cod, perch, and walleye before for half the price. The rice pilaf that came with the sea bass was really delicious. There were 7 of us. The two who got the grouper said it was great. The one who got the porkchop said it was great. The one who got the ceviche said it was good. And the one who got the short ribs said they were just okay. My husband got the scallops and said they were good, but has had better and thought they were overpriced. The service was just okay. I was expecting really top notch service because there is a dress code (sign on door says 'proper attire required') and the decor is very fancy and the prices are high. But the waitress, like typical American waitstaff, made me feel rushed and pressured at times. She asked us what wines we wanted before we had a chance to look at the wine list, and when we said 'I don't know, I haven't seen the menu yet,' she stood there waiting for us to look it over and decide on the spot. We finally told her to give us a minute and come back. Our full party hadn't even arrived yet and she only gave us one drink menu. My husband was the first to finish his plate and of course his plate was whisked away while the rest of us continued eating. Why do restaurants train waitstaff to start clearing the table before everyone is done? Not only does it make people feel awkward sitting there with no plate, but it makes the slower eaters feel extremely rushed. I really expected more out of a more upscale restaurant. Oh, and the clunky, heavy, metal menus are ridiculous. I usually give restaurants a second chance, but I wouldn't go back mainly because it made us sick. read more

We ordered lobster bisque, beet salad, Creole bouillabaisse, Grilled Salmon, Brussel sprouts, and a Vieux Carre. The food was great, and the portions were larger than other reviewers have mentioned. I ordered the Brussel sprouts after reading the portions were small, but I could barely finish them I was so full. The bouillabaisse was so good - ten or so clam, oysters, and mussels; fish; and six or so large gulf shrimp. The tomato broth was flavorful and light with very good andouille sausage. The lobster bisque lived up to its reputation - best I've ever had east of Maine. The grilled salmon entree was perfectly prepared and fresh. The drink menu is legit, and the Vieux Carre rivaled my favorite from The Velvet Tango Room. Highly recommended. read more

We came here last night with a group of 6 for our annual Christmas get together and everything was just OK. We ordered a bottle of Veuve and a bottle of red to start. They brought out the wrong bottle of red which was conveniently more expensive and my brother in law didn't notice until it was too late. We ended up keeping it and they gave it to us for the price of the one we originally ordered. For appetizers we ordered salads, some Bibb, some Caesar, and I went with the Lobster Bisque and I'm glad I did because it was the best part of the meal. I tried a couple bites of my wife's Caesar and thought it was very good. The dressing was anchovy heavy which is right up my alley. Our entrees took what felt like forever to arrive after we finished our apps. I went with the Florida grouper which ended up being pretty bland aside from the smoked tomato gravy that accompanied. My wife ordered her usual crab cake thinking it would be like Blue Point considering they are the same restaurant group and it was way different. Very thick and lots of filler. Nothing like it's sister restaurant's crab cake. Other entrees ordered by our party included the Hawaiian tuna, filet mignon, and the Kingfish trio. Everyone agreed that nothing wowed and was just ok. Service was OK minus a few minor glitches including serving a beer in a cracked glass. All that being said, we felt that the prices were reasonable for the portion sizes and quality of the food. Would I go back, probably not. I would head north on 77 to Delmonico's or Blue Point Grille which are Kingfish's sister restaurants. Kingfish presents itself as upscale dining but it seems like they aren't up to par with the other restaurants in the Hospitality group. read more

If I had known the service and food would have been a disappointment, I would have of save a lot of money. Seated in bar at a booth. Busier greated us with water and silverware. There was one other booth full and two at the actual bar. After watching the one server pass us several time and 15 mins later waiting to give our order, I told the hostess we have not been seen. Same server very attentive to the other booth, happened to be ours. She didn't not go over specials, she seemed bothered and annoyed I "told on her" for lack of service. We ordered only meals, no appetizers as the meals are $30 or more alone. She brought out 3 small pieces of bread for table and drawn butter. I mean we are paying a lot per plate, bring me more then 3 half slices of bread. She brought our meals and didn't see her back till she saw me starting at her. I am almost positive Moms lobster was undercooked, the scallops are over salted and zero flavor for shrimp. Over all experience was not good. Elizabeth B is a piss poor server. I won't be back. Wasabi up the road has full of flavor fully cooked lobster, shrimp and scallops. Won't waste my time here again. Side note, my Mom was in the bathroom most of the night. The atmosphere and presentation were much nicer than I had anticipated from their very cheap looking PVC gas station-esque untextured sign. I had the scallop and shrimp sauté and it was tasty. The scallops were very well prepared (perfectly seared but very slightly underdone.) the mashed potatoes were excellent as was the Shrimp and Grits appetizer. Went there for dinner on Tuesday evening. Restaurant was pretty empty but they sat us in the bar where it was very loud. The waitress READ the menu to us and we were sitting there with them in front of us. My husband had the scallops and he said they were pretty tasteless and did not have a good sear on them. The brussel sprouts were rock hard. My mother and I had the steelhead trout which was very good although it wasn't hot. I doubt we will ever go back. Love love love me some Kingfish. First, the happy hour is just STUPID (to borrow Aaron Boone's reaction to hitting a knock-off home run in ALCS Game 7 between the Yankees and Red Sox in 2003 ... one of my favorite baseball moments ... but I digress). They have really yummy blue point oysters for $1.50 and the best cocktail sauce I've ever tasted. I usually get, um, 12 ... but only 6 at a time, so I don't look like such a pig. I spread a little cocktail sauce, squeeze a little lemon, and slurp my way to food ecstasy. Their shrimps are also lovely, but I'm obsessed with the oysters. The rest of the menu is wonderful. I love creole (and cajun) food anyway, but the way the chef has weaved it into the entrees is truly wonderful. I'm a big fan of the shrimp and grits (my favorite "food group"), but I had the cod last week, and it was perfect. I will admit I've never dined in the restaurant. I always snag a spot at the bar. I will say that seafood is more of their specialty so if you want a good steak I would go elsewhere. We had the Ahi Tuna appetizer, and the oysters. My husband had the Kingfish Trio and I had the Filet Oscar. Nothing had flavor or seasoning, and was just bland. We even had to add salt to the tuna. The steak wasn't seasoned, and none of the sides like red potatoes or green beans had flavor either. I asked for my steak medium, but if their medium is more rare I want it a little over medium. It came out well done. Our server never brought us bread or even came back to see if our meals were okay. Dessert was honestly the best thing we had. Last night was my first time at this restaurant. My mother and I stopped on the way home from Cleveland. The general manager was greeting people and we were told it had only been open for about four months. The waitress was friendly and service was excellent. I had the Kingfish Trio and my mother had the maple-glazed pork chop, and we split the smoked lamb brisket & ahi tuna poke appetizers, followed by the chocolate brownie with salted caramel ice cream & the blueberry poundcake dessert special. The whole meal was well-executed and flavorful. The restaurant itself is clean and the atmosphere is relaxing. I even loved their brewed iced tea; it was refreshing and had no strange aftertaste like other places. Although the prices are high, I feel it is worth every penny. They often have a selection of oysters from both coasts, so you get a mix of the briny and sweet. Served ice cold with the standard mignonette, it's a good way to end the day. The restaurant side is very nice, with clean lines and a modern decor. Yet it's not pretentious, as you might expect. There is a sign on the door that says proper attire required, but I've seen people dressed down here. The prices are on the top end, so come here expecting to spend money. This makes Kingfish a nice place for a special occasion, or a date-night, or a business meeting. I would highly recommend Kingfish. read more

Wasn't feeling all the great when I walked into restaurant, so the food just wasn't tasting right to me, I tried my mom's too, and my taste was definitely off, so I didn't really eat, the manger came by and asked how everything was, I said it was ok, and he asked how he could fix it, and I just said it's honestly fine, I wasn't feeling great anyway, and the waitress Deborah asked again if everything was ok anything if there was anything they could do, and again, everything is fine, I told her it's not you, it's me lol. We would just box it up and my mom would take it home. To our surprise they not only comped the meal 50% and also gave us 2 free desserts. I have eaten at Kingfish a number of times over the past 4 months. In the past the food was delicious and the service attentive. This last experience was anything but that. I ordered the Roasted Halibut, which I have ordered every time before. In the past it was moist, perfectly seasoned as were the sides. This time the fish was tasteless and dry. The sides were blah. We ordered dessert, buttermilk creme brûlée, it was soupy. Overall very disappointed in the meal. I won't be back anytime soon. I am gonna be honest - not sure why it only has 3.5 stars on here. My meal last night blew me away. I went to dinner with my mom, and we ended up eating in the bar during happy hour. Our waitress was amazing, and the food was out of the world. We started with 8 jumbo shrimp off of the happy hour menu, and we got a few glasses of the prosecco off the happy menu as well. The shrimp were a good size, and not tough at all (was skeptical just because they were so big - not sure if they would be good, but they were A+). I got the Lobster Cornbread Crusted Maine Salmon, and it was out of this world. The salmon with the lobster cornbread practically melted in my mouth - it was soooooo good! My mom ordered the filet newburg, and the first steak they brought out was done all the way through when she asked for medium. The manager was super accommodating, and they made her a new one, which turned out fantastic. They even comped a dessert for us because of the steak coming out too done!
