Wow, reasonable prices, good down home style fish and not just fried stuff either. Fish portions were lightly breaded and lightly fried. Hush puppies while not the small ones I was expecting, but were light and fluffy with a nice crispy outside. Should have split one of the platters, so much food especially with 2 sides. Onion rings were thick cut lightly battered and great. Cobbett of corn was a whole ear! Green beans were fresh cooked Flat Italian type. Plenty of choices here. Saturday Piña Colada special was tasty and far more than we expected for the $2.99 price. read more

Very disappointed in the food. I will stick with Mike Linnigs if I want fish. I got a miniscule piece of fish. I thought maybe I ordered a kids meal by mistake. and our server was absolutely terribly forgetful. Something must have changed here and for the better. Most of the 2016 reviews were terrible and 2017 reviews are good. We enjoyed our experience. After an unpleasant 2 hour wait at Buckheads next door, my husband and I decided to dine at Kingfish, in Jeffersonville. The wait for a table was much shorter but the greeter at the door wasn't very friendly. Once we sat down we were greeted by the best waiter I have ever experienced in my 58 years of dining out. Zack treated us like we were family dining in his home! Our drinks and fabulous "Hush Puppies" arrived within minutes of being seated. The fried green tomatoes arrived hot, and almost as tasty as Mom once made. Zack consistently checked on us and made sure that our dining experience was superb. The food was a little overpriced but the service we were provided has no monetary value! If you are visiting Kentuckiana, or a local looking for good food, and amazing hospitality and service... stop in and see Zack! My recent visit to Kingfish was a very pleasant surprise! Last year I had an unfortunate lunch at the Kingfish on River Road in Louisville and I told myself I would not be back to this chain. However, I recently found myself in the Jeffersonville location and my wife and I had a fine meal. I had the lunch combo of salmon and cod and my wife had fish-and-chips. The food was very good. The cod was perhaps a bit over spiced, but since it's often thought of as a bland fish, I shouldn't have been surprised. The salmon however was great! I was please to be able to have some nice grilled salmon that restaurant cooks didn't feel like they had to pour fancy sauces all over. Nature was good to salmon. It doesn't have to be dressed-up. My wife reported that her fish-and-chips were good and I could tell at a quick glance that the kitchen used clean cooking oil rather than the swill that some establishments utilize. The service was good even if it was a bit too informal for my taste (my wife and I really didn't need to hear about our server's most recent addition to her Facebook page). The only problem I had with the establishment was its fish tanks. Restaurants really need to decide if they want to responsibly take care of fish or not. Seeing fish swimming in water that looks like soup is not appealing. It makes customers wonder about the cleanliness of the kitchen. read more

Decided to try King Fish 4 my 1st time.It was my 1st and last. Ordered 2 fish N baskets 4 take out. Upon recieving my food N my syro boxes the waitress showed me the food like It was the price is right kinda deal (LOL). LOTS of Food! Tons of fries, but they were limpy, fish was very fishy N taste...ok I know fish should taste like fish ??????? Their hush puppies were their BEST feature of the meal. Their onion rings R home made? Maybe so, but they need 2 change their breading(lousy). The 2 meals cost us$40 bu cks 4 take out!!! Also 2 top deal off as part of the meal they give U 4 slices of bread, yup plain old sliced bread. If you are from out of town, you must go here to experience one of the oldest Louisville/Jeffersonville locally owned classics. Get the whitefish sandwich. This is one of the few classic great seafood restaurant still around. They have been around for like 60 years and have always had a great fish sandwich. This is one of those places that you have been going your whole life. I have been here hundreds of times. I have been going since there was one downtown on the river. I think it's the muhammed ali museum now. Great seafood. Great for families. Great view of Louisville from the Jeffersonville store. read more

Went there on a Saturday afternoon around 5:00 p.m. Had to wait 25 minutes for a table, even though there were plenty of tables sitting empty. Once we were seated, it took the waitress another 10 minutes to acknowledge our table. She said she had been helping the bartender because they were slammed 3 deep in the bar. Once we placed our order, it took another 1/2 hour for the food to arrive. The waitress said the kitchen was slammed, too. Meanwhile, there were at least 15 empty tables and one couple ended up leaving after being seated but never getting served. I overheard another waiter tells his table that the kitchen had lost their order and he had to take it all over again. Once the food arrived, the fish had freezer burn all around the edges. I mean, this is supposed to be a FISH restaurant. You'd think they'd have FRESH FISH, especially when their name says KingFISH!! Asked to see the manager and they told us the manager was busy in the kitchen helping prepare food and couldn't come to listen to us. I won't be going back to this establishment any time soon! The only reason I would even give this place 1 star is because the hush puppies and fried green tomatoes appetizer were pretty good but that's about where it ends. Our server was inattentive right after we sat down a table of 15 sat right behind us and she focused on them the rest of the time. The food we ordered took about 45-1 hour before our actually entrees came we asked about 3 times how much longer and they kept saying "sorry the kitchen is backed up", thankfully our appetizer came out quickly. Once we finally had our food it was horrible. Tasteless and overlooked much better at long John silvers. I don't understand how they can't season their breading for the fish the breading on the hushpuppies was good just use that. But this is a different breading that has no taste. My wife ordered the cod cajun style (grilled) and it was no flavor and really chewy like it had been freezer burnt. The Doggie Bag Started with a beautiful view. Food was ok. Ended with bad service. But the real story was this: A couple came in, and the lady had a service dog (as a companion) in her purse. The restaurant, knowing of the dog, seated them in the center of the restaurant (next to us). This made us and other patrons uncomfortable. The staff was not sympathetic to our feelings. Some patrons left, since they had just arrived, some got angry, some joked. We joked about it to keep the mood light with our table. We were told our food was almost out, so we felt we had to stay. SO, if I look at this from her view that this dog is to be a service to this woman as a companion, and try to understand her feelings and why she needs it. Then, should she not understand our feelings about how WE don't want to eat with her dog too! I see this situation as a parallel to: If I had a screaming child at the table next to you, would it ruin your dinner? Yes, I know that it would, and I would quite the child or remove it from the restaurant. Respect the others that are paying for their meals and trying to relax. So, please show me and others the same respect and keep your dog hair away from my table, please. Maybe try requesting a booth away from others if possible. And to the staff/ manager at KIng Fish, shame on you for not even trying to quiet this situation! We won't return. read more

If I could give it a 0 I would. My waitress Melissa had a table of 15 and a table of 2 we were the table of 2. Melissa took our order and never spoke to us again. Some of our food showed up but the sides never made it. The sour cream and tarter sauce never made it either. I had to go find the manager to get our sides taken off the bill or to go. I got up again to get the manager to get my check. The manager took off the sides that didn't show up and pretended she did us a favor. She apologized. I had to go find her again to get a check. I had to get up again to go get a pen to sign the bill. My waitress was put in a no win situation. I am a great tipper but for the first time in my life I left nothing for a tip. Get your act together. I drove across the bridge 20 miles for 0 service average food and I still don't have my sour cream or tarter sauce. You suck. read more

Where do I even begin, walking in we were not greeted by anyone and none of the servers that walked past so much as simply smiled. One of those, very unhappy looking servers ended up being our waitress (she turned out to be really nice). The place was a mess, there were dirty tables everywhere with only maybe 7 open tables in the whole place, the hostess had to clean our table and informed us that "there were actually four busers on tonight". When we got our salads the lettuce was very clearly old and had been sitting, I had asked for no tomato but found tomato in it which tells me the salads are pre-made and they used their hands to try and scrape them off instead of just making me a fresh salad but whatever. Our dinners come and it was even worse. I had one of the platters that came with scallops, cod, Cajun shrimp, and Cajun tilapia. It. Was. Horrible. My shrimp was so tough and cold you would have thought we were at a buffet where it had been sitting for hours. I got no lemon for my fish, the tilapia had no flavor, and the cod tasted like something out of a box from the dollar store. I used to be a server so we didn't complain to the waitress. It wasn't her fault and I'm not out to get a free meal. We paid, tipped our waitress well, and left. The only thing I will say about this place is that the macaroni and cheese was good. Other wise, I will spend my $70 for two people elsewhere. read more

2 1/2 wasn't expecting greatness based on reviews. A single I went to the bar. Bartender was attentive to me as well as a couple of tables off the bar while I was there on a Monday night at 5:30ish. Asked for his suggestions- blackened cod and I love a good fried oyster. Salad was nice blue cheese dressing tasty but 2 tubs are overkill- 1 is plenty. Cod was lightly blackened (bronzed) but not over cooked or dry (so easy to do) served with a tiny piece of lemon (need to increase the seasoning, higher heat to sear the outside and larger lemon so it's not hidden by the parsley sprig) but flavors good! Not necessary to put a dish of melted butter on the plate. Oysters have too much breading for me but taste is ok. Onion rings are interesting, not greasy at all with some cornmeal but the coating seemed a bit heavy. Cocktail sauce works. And hush puppy, outer was great! Inside was dull and heavy. Hope the kitchen sees this. Menu is good, just needs to lighten breading a bit. The view at sundown is just beautiful. read more

I had a fried fish platter, as I was splurging a little on the diet ;) The fish, scallops and shrimp tasted good, but their breading is seriously awful. It ruins everything it touches. This is significant, since half of their menu is fried. My son had the coconut shrimp, and while it was decent (not great, the breading underneath must have effected it), the onion rings it came with were horrendous and I am not a person who has met an onion ring I didn't like, until now. The breading must have effected it too, but it was more than the breading, the onion was thick (which I normally think, the more onion the better) and rubbery. We stopped here after the Kentucky Derby as a group of 6 and we were all impressed. Fantastic view next to the river. Good band playing on the riverfront. The service was great and the food was served quickly. Compared to downtown Louisville, this place is a great value and serves really large portions. Drink specials are really good as well. If you like your fish frozen out of a box and deep fried, by all means, this is your place! I ordered the create your own combo with fried shrimp and crab cakes. There wasn't a flake of crab in the cakes...just a mushy dough ball. My husband ordered fish tacos, again, no one is actually cooking fresh anything in that kitchen...The best thing I had was the Mac and cheese. Slow as they go and not worth the wait. Waitress was snippy and probably not making much on tips. Poor excuse for stuffed crab...very well salted with plenty of filler if you like it that way. Frog legs were bland! how is that possible? Their menu mentioned glazed carrot but the delivery proved otherwise. Hush puppies were 3 star.
