salmon steaks -didn't see an expiration date
    Robert C.

After the Wuhan live wildlife markets instigated the great pandemic, a lot more people staying away from Asian markets. Outside bins under shade tarps with fresh fruit for purchase. Hami melon $0.99 a pound, Thai banana $0.99 a pound, Manzano banana $1.49 a pound, Kabocha $0.99 a pound, Chinese eggplant $1.99 a pound. Wife often shops at Oakmont or Felipe's for fresh fruit. During the pandemic no reason to drive 2.5 miles to Oakmont. Wife tells me the last time she drove by, there's a long wait to get into Felipes. King's Seafood Market is an 11 minute walk from my house. Found out I can shop here before going to Safeway or Sprouts, both 5 minutes walk from this store. Wednesday, was the first time I purchased anything from this place, despite living nearby since 1988. Red cherries at $2.99 a pound, in sealed 3.5 pound bags. Don't want any of the customers sampling the fruit. Super ripe white nectarines at $1.69 a pound. Would come back Friday to get more of the white nectarines, they were that good. Inside freshly cut chicken and fish on ice line the displays. Inside, salmon steaks at $6.99 a pound. No thanks, as I don't like messing with cutting through the raw salmon backbone, and picking out the rib bones after cooking. Also I can get salmon fillets at $6.99 at Sprouts or Safeway. Did not check out the live seafood items like clams or crab. Stayed away from the shrimp, as lack of freshness noted in a lot of other people's reviews. Narrow aisles of packaged and canned Asian food, stacked floor to ceiling. Reminds me of my late parents' pantry in Berkeley. Store also has milk for $3.99. Didn't see any toilet paper, but both nearby Sprouts and Safeway have consistently had toilet paper since the start of May. Cearges JIS L 1902 (Japanese Industry Standards) antimicrobial cotton fabric face masks, reusable washing up to 10 times, 5 for $10 advertised at the checkout counter. At the checkout counter, there is no electronic scanning of the price marker. Cashier just types in the price per pound, probably using a cheat sheet, as prices change all the time, putting the fruit on a scale. Minimum credit card purchase $15. No grocery bag for your purchase, a first during the pandemic, so make sure you bring a day pack, or be prepared to pack your groceries in your own shopping bags in the trunk of your car. I kept my mouth shut, and stayed out of every employees way, so didn't have to contend with the rude employees mentioned in other people's reviews. My feisty ex wife born in Hong Kong would have been right at home here, probably commenting in Cantonese over the health conditions here -the place earns a health score of 80 on the health scale, among the lowest I've seen, but an improvement over it's 8 violations and 66 score in 2017, after three consecutive 90 scores before.

I've been growing up going here. You can find all of your "oriental needs" from live seafood, baked goods, candy, fresh veggies, sauces, spices, ice cream, etc. In the past decade or so they've expanded their store to offer more fresh veggies and fruits by absorbing the store next door. The parking lot is usually pretty poppin' but there's always a spot! One important thing to not be surprised about is the customer service from the cashiers. As I've said I've been going here since I was a little girl and I'm pretty sure they don't recognize me. They see so many people a day and aren't the most talkative. Don't expect them to provide their most outstanding friendly smiles to you! If you're looking for the best service - the butcher guys are always more talkative and outwardly friendly! My favorite sections to hit up here are: - Seafood - Baked goods at the back racks and up front by the cashier counter - Ice cream, they have all the best Magnolia flavors!

Camel in during dinner time on a weekday as I was in neighborhood near Cezanne Ave and El Camino (same center as Black Bear Diner) in Sunnyvale. I'll keep it short but I was caught off guard by the non-customer un-service , no English speaking male employee. I was in the cookie aisle with my focus looking for a familiar cookie like Oreos to purchase. So I stepped back and bumped into this Chinese or Asian man literary wet mopping. No A-frame yellow signs noting wet floor, no tsp on my shoulder to let me know he wants to mop so I can get out of the way. He couldn't even wait for me to move out of this aisle I immediately mentioned to the asian cashier, that that is so dangerous and he was mopping right behind me. I said where the signs. She then loudly said in the language, while he still mopped with his head looking down, then he paused and grunted and said a few sentences to her and still continued to wet mop. What an unintelligent nitwit, imho. Obviously they don't care for safety and looking for someone to take the business to court when a customer slips and falls in the store. This experience shoes a non compliant attitude by not placing a yellow floor sign to warn the customers. Bad, bad, bad service. Also, just note it's a $15 minimum to use your card. I thought that stopped as it's a grocery store, with some good traffic in the store. Will not patronage this store or recommend. It makes sense why ppl complain. Currently they are 2.5 stars but 1 star is more appropriate.

But when I saw that this far-from-ubiquitous chain had opened an outlet right near my home, I figured I'd try it. And I was pretty satisfied. First off, they have a lunch special, which is smaller than their regular combo. Second, you get two out of a choice of half a dozen shellfish: I picked clams, which are really easy to get the meat out from the shell, and crawfish, which aren't so difficult to extract the tail meat (the only edible part worth the trouble) from either. Comes with potato and/or corn. Third is that the food comes with not only a bib and a towelette, but clear plastic gloves. I put these on and felt no difficulty in eating off them, and they did keep my hands clean. I like that. Although there are two levels of spiciness below "mild," I found the mild to be not too spicy, and the Cajun seasoning was delicious, worth scooping up in my gloved hands after I'd finished the seafood. Not too large a meal - maybe next time I'll have a full combo - but tasty. Attentive service - someone was watching to see when I was done, and came over right afterwards.

They're good, but not the best I've had. With my combo 1, I got head-on shrimp and clams with the atomic sauce and mild spice. I heard the atomic was a combination aka Whole She-bang etc. which is what I normally get from seafood boil places. It was ok, nothing too special, very chunky sauce with lots of garlic. The mild spice, however, was really more like a medium spice as it only took a couple of shrimp to really feel it. For my head-on shrimp, most of the shrimp heads were already like detached from the body which defeats the entire purpose of it. They were also on the small side which I know it's by the pound but it's noticeable. It was very underwhelming in terms of that. The clams were good, not much to say about those other than they were absolutely drenched in the chunky sauce. Overall, this place is ok. Nothing really stood out to me compared to other seafood boil places.

Sure enough we met at the PC off Mathilda in Sunnyvale. This neighborhood sure has grown. Kal's BBQ was still there, my food service account about 20 years ago. I found the PC and parked in the multi level garage just behind the restaurant. Still an early dinner time at 5:15ish, I sat at the to wait and pursue the menu. Now I've eaten several times at the Mountain View location and enjoyed it very much. This spot, well seemed kind cold, empty and I was not approached in the 10 or so minutes I sat at the bar...menu's changed. Smaller or fewer offerings, ok keep focused on what you do well, cut some costs works for me. The kids showed up, still nobody So I grabbed three menus and sat us along the wall at a four top. The server came right over once we sat and we were good. Beverages were ordered and I had decided on the Seafood and chips with cole slaw and a dinner salad. A ordered two sushi roll plates. Aa ordered something but I don't remember. The food was out in good time, I was disappointed that my salad hadn't arrived before my entree....oh well. The salad had the house dressing, I typically ask for the dressing that is house made, I couldn't hear/understand what dressing she said. Anyway the salad was good, I liked the edamame beans as a topping garnish. The Seafood fish, calamari and coconut shrimp and spicy fries, good Looking further it appeared that the cooking time in the fryer was, well inconsistent. The Coconut shrimp cooked to almost burned which made the shrimp dry, spicy fries just a notch below burned but good. The two battered cod pieces, I'm not sure as the battered crust was not too sturdy and fell off the fish. Then the calamari seemed to be cooked just right, a bit on the lighter side. I still ate it all. I didn't eat the cole slaw, it looked as if it was from a few days ago, dry tasteless. As our table was cleared plate by plate I saw Aa hadn't touched his black beans. Now black beans are a favorite of mind, these were tasteless. Aa looked at me as I finished my bite of his beans and said "I didn't like them either". The vibe was not there as it is in MV, my own sense of things. If I didn't know the franchise I wouldn't return to this location, there's plenty of other places to get an excellent meal. See ya at the next place I drive to...thanks Foodguy-Martin.

But it was invisible to me. Until today, anyway. I am so happy I finally found it. Because Gourmet Works is much more than a store that sells candy and chocolate. In fact, as the name would suggest, it's more of a Gourmet food store and Gift Shop than a Chocolate Shop. But it's also a hella cool chocolate shop and that's the main reason I will be sure to return. Right when you walk in the door you are surrounded by an astonishingly large variety of items that would make the perfect gift for a loved one, or for yourself. Because, I ain't gonna lie, there were at least a dozen items that I considered buying for myself. I thought to myself, you know, I do so much for me, and it seems I rarely properly thank myself for my devoted patronage and self care. If you are interested in high quality gourmet gifts, Gourmet Works is definitely the place to go! They carry so many products you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. Gourmet Salts, Dried Herbs, Pasta Sauces, Dried Pasta, Curry Sauces, Masala Simmer Sauce, Special Preserves and Jams. An impressive, well-curated selection. Then, at the back of the store you find the kind of Chocolate display case that dreams are made of. Oh my Lord! Just the Truffle side alone would be enough to melt anyone's heart. But the other side, with the astonishing variety of hand dipped chocolates is where I lost it. I saw the Almond Bark and stopped dead in my tracks. I stared at that Almond Bark. The Almond Bark stared back at me. We were locked into that stare down for what seemed like an eternity. I was sure neither of us would ever give in. But then I blinked. Somehow I became aware that the wonderful woman behind the counter was asking me if she could help me. As I regained my senses, suddenly I felt so embarrassed. How long had I been staring at that Almond Bark? How many times had she tried to get my attention? I had no idea. I tried to play it off like there was nothing going on between me and that Almond Bark. I casually inquired about some Chocolate Covered Caramels with Sea Salt on a totally different shelf in the display case. Then, of course, I had to buy a couple of those Chocolate Covered Carmels with Sea Salt, to cover up the whole situation with me and the Almond Bark. I purchased a couple ordinary, un-chocolate covered Caramels with Sea Salt too. The woman behind the counter couldn't have been more gracious. She didn't let on that she knew exactly what was happening and I wasn't fooling anyone with the whole Chocolate Covered Caramels with Sea Salt charade. So, my thanks to Gourmet Works, and the gracious woman behind the counter, Padmaja (her family owns Gourmet Works). It was such a pleasure to shop at your wonderful store!
