The vibe/people may be hit or miss some nights, but the yummy cocktails and friendly bartenders definitely make this place one of my go-to's when I'm around the St. Marks area. They have a pool table that my friends like to partake in, but sometimes the people playing/waiting can be a bit anal about writing your name down (not sure why, but whatevs). They have a decent amount of space in the general bar/seating area and a back room that has good seating for larger groups. One thing to note is that their bathrooms are usually clean! Private, one-stall bathrooms-- a gem amongst crowded, dirty, cramped stall bathrooms. Bartenders are attentive and security is friendly! In terms of drinks- the Drunken Coconut is my fav. I had been wanting to check out this place since I'd lived in NYC, but was here for the first time after I'd moved away and was back for a cold weekend in the city. I thought this was a shot and took it immediately, perhaps that was not the best move but I enjoyed it. Great place to go on a date or with a group! I came here with 4 other girlfriends for some cocktails and we were not disappointed. Since its so freakin cold, I got the hot cider cocktail with rum. DELICIOUS, and came in a huge glass! There was a cinnamon stick in it too which gave some tasty extra flavor. I tried my friends frozen dark and stormy (which comes in a coconut) and that was very strong and delicious! The atmosphere of the place is very cool, there is a fire place when you first walk in, which was cozy for the cold night. There is a back tiki room too which is fun, going along with the Jamaica theme (btw the only bottled beer they serve is red stripe, so the theme is definitely carried out well). They have a pool table here and some aggressive guys were hogging it, so my (slightly intoxicated) friend made a comment to the waitress (who loved us btw) and she was like "oh hell no" and went over to ask them to share the table! Hay, Kingston Hall. You're proof one can't always judge a bar by its Yelp rating. Came here for a friend's birthday and was skeptical given the iffy rating but truly enjoyed it! It's easy to walk past this place if you don't know where to look (at least it was for me) but once inside, you'll be glad you came. The interior is pretty spacious for an East Village bar and is rocking the whole Kingston-island-vibe. As many have noted, their signature drink is a coconut rum cocktail served inside an actual coconut! If that's not therapeutic in the winter, nothing is. Naturally, I ordered one. It was tasty but not as sweet or rich as I was expecting; think a lightened-up piña colada with a hell of a lot of rum. The bartenders were quick and nice and actually gave you the leftover cocktail that didn't fit in the coconut in a glass. That's bang for your buck. This place is a hidden gem above the college bars downstairs. Kind of hard to find but it's up the stairs to the right of the bar below and through the gated door. Upon walking in I was amazed with the ambiance of the place - everything is dimly lit but decorated with intense detail. I really loved all of the rooms within the bar and how quaint everything was. Make sure you get the coconut drink, it was delicious! Minus one star for how expensive the cocktails were, but I guess it's expected in NYC. We went to Kingston Hall one or twice when it first opened. It wasn't particularly memorable and we sort of forgot about it for a couple of years. We came back to this place last night because I was hankering for something tropical, and this time I think we'll be revisiting soon. The Drunken Coconut - rum, coconut water and pineapple juice - used to be shaken and strained, The drink was so-so as I remembered it, as were the others on the menu, and probably why we didn't come back for so long. This time, however, I was so surprised to see the bartender fill the coconut shell from a slushy machine. It's now served frozen! And it's amazing. Like a pina colada but not as cloyingly rich or sugary. Strong, too, and even though you get the kick from the Appleton Gold rum the drink goes down too easily. I was reminded of a holiday I took in the Caribbeans, and for a moment I felt as if I were back there again, especially by the open windows looking down at passersby. It was sort of crowded around 8pm and some patrons were annoyingly loud, but thankfully the semi-enclosed mezzanine overlooking the avenue was quieter and more intimate. Lovely attention to detail in the interior construction and decor, but that alone wasn't a good enough reason to return before. I recently hosted my 28th birthday party at Kingston Hall and I truly could not have had a better experience. David, the person I was coordinating with, was incredibly helpful the entire time. I was able to reserve the pool room area free of charge. Day of, we got there and the bar was already crowded and fun. They immediately cleared the room for us and even had a bouncer who stood at the entrance of the pool room area and made sure that only my guests came in. The bouncer was incredible!! We had our own waitress assigned to the area and she was THE BEST. The bar was so fun, amazing atmosphere and vibe, and I was able to host 30-40 friends comfortably. A close friend of mine kept dragging me to Kingston Hall every single time that I would visit him in East Village. And I wont lie, the first couple of times I wasnt sure why he liked it so much. But I have to say, after visiting a few times this bar has grown on me significantly. To the point that I am now the one suggesting we meet up at KH. Bar is dimly lit overall, but has cool decor and has a surprisingly large amount of space. Upstairs room that overlooks the street, back area with pool, and a back room. But what really makes this bar great are the 2 for 1 drink specials from 4-8pm every day (including weekends). Every time you buy a drink you are given a token that can be redeemed for another drink later in the day (or another day). And the selection for the drinks that are eligible for the special is quite large and well equipped. Love me some Allagash and Lagunitas. Has honestly become one of my favorite places in the city to kick back, enjoy some beer, and kick some ass in pool (but lets be real... im getting destroyed). read more

They have a solid happy hour - buy one get one token system - this only applies to wells and beer for both redeeming a free drink and what drinks get a token. So don't go for a cocktail and expect a token for a well/beer. Also, you can only redeem tokens during happy hour. Learn from my mistakes! The cocktails are alright but nothing especially good, I'm not a huge fan of coconut drinks but if you like coconut get the Drunken Coconut. It comes in a coconut and it certainly looks good. There's not a lot of vegetarian options here but the jerk fries are damn good. This bar has a surprising amount of space but it does get filled up the later it gets. There's also a free pool table. I hosted my fiance's 30th birthday party here and it couldn't have gone better! The staff was AMAZING!! Everyone was so friendly and helpful. At a bar like this, in it's location, I can imagine the clientele can get a little difficult so jaded employees are the norm. Not with this staff! From the bouncer, to the bartenders, to David who helped me with the logistical stuff - all top notch. It was a private party of around 60 people and they were really accommodating with us bringing in cake and decorations. It's hard to find somewhere in the city who won't charge a cake cutting fee let alone provide utensils/plates/anything else we needed. Also we ordered platters of food for the party and all the guests were raving about how delicious everything was. I always loved this place as a bar because the music is always on point and the drinks are never watered down but now I can't recommend it enough for a party/fun event. I came here on my first night to New York last weekend for happy hour and while it was raining, I was relieved there was most likely not going to be a crowd but was I wrong! It was actually packed which is a good sign at least for me, because it ensures a great time with friends and meeting new people. The French fries were absolutely delicious and fresh to taste. The seasoning on it provided a bit of a kick and it's just what you need with a refreshing tropical drink.
