I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. I went with a group of six during dinner hours. When I looked at their menu I didn't think anything would be good considering the vast variety of food they had on their menu. The sushi rolls I had were tasty and the fish was not over powered by the extra ingredients. Service was a little slow but I would go back there for their Hot & Sour Soup. Walked in to a stereotypically decorated restaurant and handed a menu that boasted Chinese, Japanese, and Thai cuisine. This hyper long menu with and eclectic assortment of cross-cultural dishes was already a red flag. The staff looked peeved at our arrival and seemed downright offended when we had a question about the menu. I ended up ordering the vegetarian sushi dish, which I don't think, had ever been ordered at that restaurant. The plate consisted of raw vegetables including broccoli, green beans, strangely cut carrot slices, and baby corn placed on top of rice and haphazardly tied down with a strand of nori. The piece de resistance was a hand roll that contained sweet dill pickles, pickled mushroom, and a third ingredient that I care not to remember the texture of. This is by far the worst "sushi" I have ever had in my life and I've had gas station sushi. read more

I'm a little leery of writing this review - why? I am afraid that the word will get out & I will have to start waiting for this amazing food! I knew that after returning upstate from NYC, that finding a great go-to Chinese place was a priority. Well, I struck gold! Went here at lunchtime mid-week. The lunch special is a STEAL at $5~$6 for Chinese (they have Japanese & Thai too). The portions are plentiful & the sauces are a blast of amazing flavors that make your mouth happy, very happy. They also have brown rice. The egg drop soup has great flavor. The egg rolls were tasty - not bland -but a little too greasy. I had the Generals Tso's Chkn - amazing. I always ask for white meat chkn & I am willing to pay extra for it. Not here; I was assured that they ONLY use quality white-meat chicken and boy were they right! My father had the double sauteed pork - I must say, I have tried this dish before at other places & I am not a fan - BUT - I WILL be ordering it here. It's sliced pork medallions in a succulent sauce. Service was on point and never left us waiting. I came back around dinner on a Sat. There were more people dining in than at lunchtime. My brother had the curry chkn - Nice! not spicy like some would think but simply a mellow curry favor that makes you come back for more. What can I say about the the chkn with Garlic sauce ? My brother, who never tries anything - tried it & wanted more. Myself? I found myself wanting to lick the plate so I could get every last drop of the glistening brown sauce. First time here. Great lunch specials which are really customizable. They will put together almost anything you'd like. They have a sushi bar which is also great. Great rolls, simple rolls have a good amount of fish, low on rice and the sushi menu is very reasonably priced. No frozen fish. None of the sauces in the dishes we tried were overly sweet or syrupy. I love the SUSHI HERE! I actually debated on whether or not to write this, as this place is one of Kingston's best kept secrets...but lately it seems to be getting out. Lol! This place has been here forever. The staff are very friendly. I often sit at tge sushi bar in the winter and enjoy sipping my hot sake until my takeout sushi feast is ready. The prices are VERY reasonable. The decor is a bit dated, but I don't go for the ambiance, I go for the delectable food. My boyfriend loves their hot n'sour soup and their Chicken with Hot Pepper Sauce and doesn't eat sushi, but has raved about everything he's gotten from their Chienese end of the menu. My staple sushi order is the Orange & White Platter...3 pieces of Salmon, 3 Yellow Tail, 1 roll yellowtail scallion, and 1 roll spicy salmon, with salad and Miso soup, 18.95... So good, we ordered during a blizzard, my car wouldn't start, so we had a cab pick it up and bring it to my house....That's the only drawback...they don't deliver..... Oh yeah, make sure you look for the specialty sushi signs at the sushi bar...They are reasonable and TO DIE FOR!!! read more

Easily my favorite in the area. The pan fried won tons are to die for. I get 2 orders now when we take out. Sitting in there is better than most but still lack luster so we usually bring it home. This is my first Chinese meal in the area. I know this isn't Chinatown NYC, so don't have that expectation. Had a lunch special of wonton soup, fried rice and Beef Szechuan Style. All were acceptable and palatable. The beef had a sauce that was a little thicker and sweeter than I expect with this dish. This is our go to place for a great Asian meal when we can. The menu is big enough so everyone in the party can find something they love. We mostly eat the sushi and enjoy their great drinks. If they have samosas on the special board its a don't miss!! We tell all our friends about this place and the ones who have been there agree. I only wish they were open on Sundays because that would be more convenient for us, but everybody needs a day off. read more

Kingston Wok is one of my favorite little gems in Kingston. From the outside, it looks like nothing special (in a strip mall right next door to an icky looking pizza place), but that's not the case. It is one of the cleanest restaurants I've had the pleasure of eating at. The workers are so friendly and accomodating, and are always happy to answer my questions & cater to my picky needs (vegetarian, can't have fish sauce on anything since I'm allergic) with no complaint. The decor in the seating area is a little outdated, but still charming. The tea that comes with your meal is really good, and they serve you orange slices after you're done eating. My favorites: Indian Mey Goreng (not sure if I have the spelling right, but it's a curried noodle dish), seaweed salad, the healthy tofu & veggie dish, & some of the maki rolls (the veg varieties). My one complaint: the dumplings, which used to be my favorite thing to order there, are no longer the same... apparently there were complaints from customers that the thick dough wasn't healthy, wah wah. Today was Chinese New Year and our thoughts turned to Chinese food. My husband saw all the good reviews for Kingston Wok, so we decided to see for ourselves. The food is not Chinese food, nor is it Thai either. We didn't have sushi, so I will take a pass on reviewing their Japanese fare. We ordered Shrimp Pad Thai and it was a gloppy, disgusting and tasteless heap of noodles stuck together w/ 4-5 small over-cooked shrimp and some peanuts on top. I couldn't eat it and tossed it out. Our egg rolls and spring rolls were also sub-par: greasy and full of shredded cabbage. Another disappointment. My steamed veggies were fresh, but the "garlic sauce" was not garlic sauce. It was a generic, oily, dark sauce w/ some kind of garlic flavoring and a couple of black beans. The black bean sauce tasted exactly the same, looked exactly the same and like the garlic sauce, was quickly tossed away. My husband found his hot and sour soup to be edible, but not what he thinks of as authentic or even good. So all in all, not sure why all the wonderful reviews. One would think that an authentic Chinese or Thai restaurant with good food would have opened in the Kingston/Saugerties area by now. Very disappointed. read more
