This review is not for the location but the ice cream itself. We had their fantastic lavashak ice cream at the 2nd annual smorgasjoon event, also known as smorgasburg. The ice cream was creamy and delicious and the lavashak gave it a fantastic kick of sour that you get from a sour fruit roll. I will definitely venture out to try more of their flavors! I definitely recommend giving them a try!
I love a little middle eastern ice cream action! They encourage you to sample as many of the flavors as you'd like which is really nice. They may even add the toppings on your sample too so you get the whole experience. Delicious flavors to choose from. Seating is limited, but it's located in a prime walking location anyways, so it doesn't matter all that much. If there is a line, it is still worth the wait.
My husband and I stopped by here on Monday night after eating at Edwin Mills. My husband had this spot bookmarked a while ago and didn't realize they were neighboring businesses. When we arrived, we were the only two there for a few minutes until more people came. We were greeted right away. We walked down a ramp that led us to their selections. It's a decent-sized shop with a few tables. Each table had a rose in a vase attached via velcro so you don't have to worry about tipping them over. The shop is also nicely decorated with wall art. It's been a few days since then and we can't stop thinking about coming back. They serve unique Middle-Eastern flavored ice cream. I ordered the Sesame Halva which is their vegan ice cream made of Halva ice cream with sesame & coconut. OMG, I've never tasted anything like this before. I love anything that has a sesame profile. If you like that nutty, sweet, and earthy flavor this one is for you. I could taste the coconut, but it wasn't overpowering. There were also little chunks of halva in there that added a slight bit of sweetness. The texture was similar to cookie dough, but softer. Aside from the taste, I loved the simple presentation of the small rose on top of the scoop. It made it look elegant. As you can tell, I am definitely coming back and highly recommend stopping by.
Wow, I found Kinrose via Yelp. I wanted to try a unique local ice cream spot and saw the floss rose ice cream cup and was very curious. We got the Walnut Baklava and Sour Cherry & Fairy floss (pashmak).. both were delicious! I love how my sour cherry complimented the fairy floss so much and I love eating the floss, which I believe is the sweet cream Iranian candy floss. My bf really liked the Walnut Baklava, it was a bit too sweet for my taste, but it was full of flavor. They also encourage you to taste the flavor before committing to buying but I knew what I wanted and was so happy with my choice. Def would recommend and would def come back if I'm in the area.
The flavors are unlike anything else and it takes me ages to decide on my 1-2 scoops because I want them all. Two of my favorites are probably the Saffron Pistachio Rose and Fig and Olive. Quite hard to get seating on a Friday evening, as would be expected, but it's a nice establishment to chill out in if you manage to get a table.
Finally Checked This Spot Off My Yelp List -- Worth the Wait! Finally got to try KINROSE, which has been sitting on my Yelp list for over a year now -- and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! First things first, this place is definitely hidden in an alleyway, so make sure you have your Google Maps ready or you might walk right past it like we almost did. The moment I saw their Fairy Floss Sour Cherry, I was completely mesmerized -- so you already know I had to order it. This flavor is made with sour cherries and sweet cream dressed in Iranian candy floss, topped with pistachio dust, and it was hands-down my absolute favorite of the night. Singles are $8 and duos are $10.50, which is pretty reasonable considering how unique the flavors are. Fairy Floss Sour Cherry -- 9.2/10 The sour cherry had that perfect balance of sweet with a subtle tang, and the fairy floss texture added such a fun, delicate touch. The flavors paired beautifully together -- definitely the star of the night for me. Hubby ordered the duo, and I helped pick the flavors (of course ): Walnut Baklava -- 8/10 This one had a brown sugar and spiced walnut base topped with baked baklava bits. The walnut flavor was subtle, and I appreciated that it wasn't overly sweet. The baklava topping added a nice texture without being too heavy. Saffron Pistachio Rose -- 7/10 A delicate flavor made with pure Iranian saffron ice cream, rosebud garnish, and crunchy pistachio bits. Quick tip -- don't be like me and think the rosebud decoration is edible... because it's not lol. The flavor was interesting, but the saffron was very light, so it didn't stand out as much as I expected. This ended up being my least favorite of the three. Since there were so many unique flavors, the staff kindly let us sample a few others -- and I really appreciated that because it made choosing even harder! I also got to try: * Fig & Olive * Ahwa Qahveh Date (Creamy Coffee) * Sheer Moz Brulee * Konafa * Labna Honeycomb There are honestly so many flavors to explore, which just means we'll definitely be back. The servers were incredibly sweet and patient with us while we sampled, and even though they were busy, the service was still very fast and efficient. You can definitely tell this is a local favorite spot for a late-night sweet treat. Between the creative flavors, friendly service, and fun experience, this place easily makes it into my Top 5 ice cream spots. A definite must-try if you're in the area -- and yes, I'm already planning my next visit with hubby. Happy eats!
Kinrose located in the alleyway is a hidden gem. The staff is always friendly and emphasizes that you can literally sample as much as you want. With the flavors being so new to me, I truly appreciate that because not all ice cream shops are serviceable like that. My go to flavor has to be the Walnut Baklava with brown sugar. The ice cream is flavorful and creamy and they're very generous with the topping. The shop has plenty tables and seating indoors along with 2-3 tables outdoors. The only small complaint I have is the table decorations are permanently in the middle of the table haha but that doesn't take away from giving them 5 stars.
I went here yesterday afternoon. It's a hole in the wall, found it in an alley. Voices echo when people talk. I love the potted plants, makes it greener. I like the floor to ceiling windows. The employee asked us if we wanted to try the flavors. I chose the walnut baklava. A rose is on each table. Music plays through the speaker. I chose the single walnut baklava in the end. It had a perfect amount of walnut and baklava pieces or crumbs. A flower bud was placed on top to enhance the presentation which I appreciated. I ended up being full after eating it.
Kinrose Creamery is a cute little ice cream shop in Pasadena located on a small alley way. This ice cream shop offers very unique flavors that surprisingly mix well and actually tastes delicious. I would have to say the flavors are more of an acquired taste but nonetheless very good and worth trying!
Absolutely love coming here! This time I got the Sour Cherry & Fairy Floss and the Pistachio Kanafa with Chocolate Shell, and both totally delivered. The sour cherry flavor was perfectly balanced -- not overly tart at all. It had this subtle yogurt-like creaminess that paired so well with the sweetness of the fairy floss. Such a fun combo without being overpowering and textures are amazing! The pistachio kanafa was just as impressive -- super nutty, rich, and really solid in flavor. I prefer the pistachio alone without chocolate but adding chocolate gave a fun texture difference. On top of the amazing flavors, they offer samples (including toppings!), which makes it even more fun to try new things. And there's 2 free Pac-Man arcade machines you can play while you're there -- such a cool bonus. Overall, I love it here and will definitely keep coming back!
Very yummy middle eastern flavors! At a shop down Mills Alley. We tried the halva and the konafa, and went with the konafa! Very delicious with the phyllo dough crunchies on it, as well as a couple of beautiful edible rose blooms. Reminds of Booza I've had in Berkeley! Cute little shop, and friendly scoopers who were really patient handing everyone samples!

This was soooooo good. The ice cream was creamy, yet light at the same time. I really enjoy sour flavors and the sour cherry and tamarind were delicious. Right after I finished it, I wanted more. Highly recommend. Also, the staff was AMAZING! They were super sweet and accommodating for allergies! read more
Had a date with one of my girlfriends and wanted dessert~ this place attracted us and we did not regret our choice in coming Got to the place at around 7:30pm (mind you they close at 8:00pm) and there was still a line going even when I was in line **ORDERED: (1st time) ~ Saffron Pistachio Rose Taste: 10/10; I LOVED THIS!! You can def taste the saffron, bits and pieces of pistachio and the aroma of rose water :3 I had wanted to order the duo set with the Egyptian Mint Chip but sadly, they were out of stock which makes sense as they were close to closing. (2nd time) ~ Egyptian Mint Chip Taste: 8/10; I was really looking forward to this flavor since I wasn't able to try it the last time but it wasn't as minty as I expected it to be. But the consistency was very interesting and stretchy with the crunch of chocolate chips which I enjoyed **VIBE: We got there around 2pm which was maybe 2 hours after they opened; there wasn't a line which was nice and not too many people in the shop. It was quiet with seats so we were able to just eat, chill and chat inside. **PEOPLE: The workers there were great, professional and efficient :) they moved fast and got our order ready right up front I've already been there twice and would def return to try their other flavors!! read more
Creative tasty dessert at its best! I always had to drive to LA to get this delicious and decadent ice cream and they just popped up in Pasadena. ::squeal:: My favorite is the classic walnut baklava flavor and the saffron pistachio rose. They run out of the sour cherry and fairy floss quickly. It looks so tasty and pretty. Their ice cream is creamy and full of flavor. Each choice has special toppings added to it. The flavor is true to the description, nothing like the other ice cream flavors out there. It's a small ice cream shop with a hipster vibe and there's also a Pac-Man arcade. A very unique ice cream find! After sampling a few flavors, we chose a duo of saffron pistachio rose and konafa (sweet cream and crunchy fillo) for $9.50. Our cousins chose the orange flower pistachio and sheer aroz with cinnamon. I personally didn't care for the baklava and agree with another reviewer that it was too sweet. The Egyptian mint chip was too stretchy of a consistency for me. My boyfriend said the lavashak was too sour to enjoy. Of the flavors we ordered, I think the saffron pistachio rose and sheer aroz were the best. The konafa had a strong floral taste- even stronger than the saffron pistachio rose. The orange blossom didn't stand out to me. The slightly yellow color of the saffron was very pretty, and the pistachios added the perfect texture to break up the buttery consistency of the ice cream. The flavor became more subtle as we ate it and we ended up scraping the cup by the last bite. It's a bit pricey, but I would come back for the saffron pistachio rose flavor! read more
Unique flavors I have yet to see elsewhere! It was so hard to decide on the flavors but luckily samples are provided and the employees are really patient. I loved that even for samples, the little garnishes and topping was sprinkled on top too so you get the full experience and taste of what you're actually getting. I couldn't just get one flavor so I opted for the split scoop with walnut baklava and the sour cherry & fairy floss. Seems a bit on the higher end price for ice cream but definitely worth it! Can't wait until then have ice cream flights so I can get more flavors. The place is pretty tucked away in the little alley with other restaurants so you might miss it. read more
A must try if you're looking for high quality ice cream with delicious and unique flavors. We stumbled upon this little shop while wandering around Old Town and I'm so glad we did. They are located in the little alleyway (parking garages nearby). Staff is super friendly and nice when offering free samples! It was so hard to choose. I had tried the Egyptian mint which had a unique texture ans refreshing taste, the walnut baklava included crumbled baklava pieces on top, the konafa was lightly sweet, but I think the standout flavor was the sour cherry with fairy floss! I love that all their ice cream flavors came with something extra (baklava pieces, floss, phyllo, etc). They even offer a split scoop so you can have two flavors instead of one. SERVICE - located in an alley off of the main road in downtown Pasadena - street or garage parking nearby - good amount of indoor seating at tables with 2-4 chairs - servers are friendly and allow you to sample the flavors with the respective toppings - scoops can take a while to build since they add toppings to each one - no restroom inside MENU - middle eastern inspired ice cream - pricey ($7.50 per scoop) FOOD - vegan sesame halva with baklava (9/10): coconut milk base with sweetened sesame paste swirled in. I added baklava for an additional $.50. Halva is one of my favorite desserts as it combines the bitterness and nuttiness of tahini with a slight hint of sugar. Mixing that with the coconut milk was a fantastic pairing. The ice cream itself is very creamy and not watery or icy. For a single scoop, it is a larger portion. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes! All the flavors looked very unique and I hope they add more vegan ones read more

Last night we were going to get ice cream and I wanted to try something new and interesting, Kinrose Creamery was the perfect option! The staff were very helpful and offered us samples before we settled on a flavor. I ended up choosing the sour cherry with fairy floss. The cherry flavor was perfectly tart and had actual sour cherries mixed in. The fairy floss was similar to cotton candy. I'm not a huge cotton candy fan because of how sweet it usually so the mild sweetness of the cherry floss was perfect! I wish we lived closer I would be a regular. read more

Delicious and flavorful Middle Eastern ice cream! The store is tucked away in an alley by Urban Pocha. I was able to sample the Walnut Baklava and Konafa before getting it as a split scoop. The candied walnuts complemented the Baklava and the Konafa was deliciously creamy. read more

Cool small place. Ice cream had odd and end flavors but the one I selected was good. One downside is it's very expensive $7.50 per scoop plus the mag one asks for a tip of $1 or $4 which is steep to scoop a single ice cream. read more

Wow. Unique AND thoughtful flavor combinations. I can honestly say that I have never had ice cream like this. I was drawn down the alley and to Kinrose by the sandwich board innocuously sitting off the sidewalk. The sign boasted "Persian flavors". I ordered the Shavalek (spelling?!) which was a sweet, tangy tamarind and pomegranate ice cream based on a traditional Iranian dessert. The ice cream was SO creamy in both texture and flavor. My husband had the saffron pistachio rose and sang its praises. Highly recommended. Already salivating for my next visit. read more

Staff is patient and lets you sample any/all of the flavors. We enjoyed the baklava and sour cherry flavors, and the toppings provided nice textural contrast. While it was good, can't see myself really craving it again though, given how expensive it is :( read more

Hidden gem! In the alley way in old town Pasadena. Unique flavors! So scrumptious! There's about 8 different flavors and you can sample all, if you want! The server was so patient with us deciding and explained their flavors. We got two duos. Kanafa and sheer aroz, then sour cherry & fairy floss and orange flower pistachio. Kanafa had the crunchy baked phyllo on top and the ice cream had a bit of rose flavor. The aroz tasted just like my fave rice pudding! That fairy gloss on the sour cherry is a mind blower! They were already out of the baklava, I will have to go back!! Every cup had a beautiful dried mini rose on top. There's a pac man video game you can play. About 6 tables inside. It is in an alley way. Street parking is easier on a week night. read more
New ice cream shop I was excited to try after having dinner in old town tonight. Located in an alleyway at night it was kind of hard to find. There are a few tables inside but it was packed when we arrived so we couldn't get seating. The menu is small with unique flavors and you're allowed to sample as many as you like. We ordered the sour cherry & fairy floss, saffron pistachio rose, and lavashak. The flavors are on the sweeter end but the lavashak has a nice tang, and the saffron has a floral flavor. The fruit leather itself hardens very fast when placed near the ice cream so it was too hard to eat The only thing is that the prices are really steep for ice cream, running you $7.50 for a single scoop and $9.50 for a split scoop. This review is actually for their pop up at Smorasburgla not the Pasadena store. The flavors are the same so read on. My intent was to have their new Sheer Aroz flavor but then I heard the owner say we could do a split scoop so that was perfect because I was also eyeing the Egyptian Mint Chip. Both of these flavors were delish. It's worthy to note that their ice cream is not super sweet, which is what makes them attractive to me. If you like Cold Stone Creamery, this place is not for you. The Aroz flavor reminded me of the Latin Arroz Con Leche dessert but with less sugar and the Egyptian Mint Chip was less minty than the American version. In prior occasion, I have also had the Sour Cherry flavor and enjoyed that as well. If you run across this ice cream, definitely give them a try. read more

This place here is such a cool beautiful spot. In an industrial artsy alley, a bit tucked away but that adds to the ambiance. Very vibrant cool atmosphere. Well let me tell ya, this place right here is just beyond belief. You know how 9/10 times all these trendy little ice cream spots have these crazy "unique" flavors and they're either doing too much and it doesn't mesh well or they're just too sweet ? Well not this place. They got the touch and I loved that it wasn't ridiculously sweet. The only thing I would say is that I wish it was a little colder. It was just a smidge too soft. But nothing crazy. Oh and the girl who helped was so sweet and didn't get annoyed by my annoying friend. I also loved that they had a pac man machine and a few different areas to sit. Hidden in a busy little alleyway in Old Town Pasadena are some gems of the area, including this Middle Eastern/Egyptian Inspired Ice Cream Shop, Kinrose. The ratings brought us in, and the dessert made us want to come back for more! After a cool date night in downtown, my husband and I decided to stop by Kinrose and try out two of their popular flavors: Sour Cherry and Orange Blossom Pistachio. The Orange Blossom has chunks of pistachio and definite floral notes, so if you're adverse to a slightly perfumey flavor, maybe try out the Sour Cherry like I did. It's a cherry flavored ice cream with sour "candy floss" on top. Neither ice cream was overly sweet but very subtle and so delicious. It was busy, and no table was available on Saturday night, but it is worth a try, and you might even want to come back! I'm excited to taste the Baklava ice cream next. read more

Nice date spot for ice cream, the ice cream flavors are very tasty. The inside is small and intimate, they do have outside seating but will get full and busy on weekends. They have free arcades while you wait in line or after your treat. Love the two scoop option to share with date. read more

Amazing!! The ice cream was so smooth and not too sweet. The shop owner was so nice and patient as we sampled nearly every flavor. I loved the unique textural component of some flavors, such as the candy floss with the sour cherry ice cream and the walnut bits atop the baklava ice cream. We had so much trouble settling on a few flavors and ultimately decided on the sour cherry with candy floss and lavashak with fruit leather. The saffron was also another amazing flavor that I highly recommend trying out! The ice cream did not weigh us down since it wasn't too sweet nor heavy. Great, cute place to hang out. There's even a Pac-Man arcade game here. I will definitely be visiting every time I'm in Old Town! read more

This place has been in my bookmarks for so long and I finally got the chance to go try it. The flavors are so unique, but my friend and I went with one of the bestsellers: the Walnut Baklava. Every ice cream comes with its own topping, which in this case is the baked baklava bits on top. It also comes with a super tiny and cute flower bud that I was tempted to eat (thinking, maybe it's edible? maybe it's one of the toppings and a part of the experience?) but ultimately didn't. The store is manned by twins, who were, at all times, helpful and professional. The ice cream itself is pretty good and I do believe the more than a year wait in my bookmarks was well worth the experience and expense. read more
I've been here twice and really enjoyed the Sheer Aroz from my most recent visit. It reminded me of rice pudding but in ice cream form. There was no line when I went on Saturday night so service was quick. The ice cream is definitely on the pricier side but i think it's nice if you have it for a special occasion or to treat yourself. In an alley in old town Pasadena a little ice cream shop with about 4 to 5 small tables with seating for two people. The selections of ice cream are unique some good ingredients. The ingredients don't seem to pop for me only one or two things can be recognized when eating. We had the Aroz, the baklava, and the banana creme brûlée, and a shery cotton candy. The texture on the shery one was one I had never tried it was like cotton candy was placed on top of the ice cream. They had a Pac-Man arcade machine inside and that made it entertaining for my 6 year old. All of this was great and even the worker who helped us out was great. The 3 star review is because the employee who was working with the server we had was in a rush. They hardly had any activity and the employee was asking to move to the register to pay with out us being finished. When he was done with his customer he asked to move again in order for him to charge his customer. This place is less organized than a cold stoned with a bunch of teenagers. read more
