Came here as was down the street at Kiez for a WC game and wanted some post game dessert. Lots of variety of flavors and toppings for various soft serve ice cream. They also have vegan and non dairy options. Prices were about what you d pay at most ice cream shops abd portions were good. Nice little spot for a treat if you're in the area!

Magpies is in LA based soft serve ice cream company specializing in a rotating selection of soft serve ice cream with a variety of toppings. We came here on a Sunday evening and got 2 double scoops ($7.50 each). The classic cream vanilla was delicious m, creamy, yet not too heavy. The banana Foster was rich, not excessively banana-y and had a little bit of acidity to it as would be expected. The strawberry banana was excellent, fruity, but not too heavy, while the Tangerine Creamsicle was a little bit disappointing being a bit too tart and lacking a robust tangerine flavor, in my opinion. My favorite of the evening was the Bananas Foster. Service was friendly and very prompt. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior was clean, slick and modern appearing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Value, stated above, was very reasonable for ice cream of this quality. Magpies continues to impress, and is better, in my opinion, than most of the high end, scooped ice cream places out there. Be sure to check them out! My other half loves this ice cream shop so we had to take a detour to come try some more sweet treats. The prices are a bit steep for this treat but isn't everything going up in price. My favorite is the sweet cream and roasted corn which never disappoints. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are a few outdoor tables and chairs available plus indoor tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Birthday ube soft serve pie!!

If you're looking for soft serve with a little bit of something surprising to cater to your inner child, then Magpie's has you covered! Their setup is like a soft serve with toppings type shop, but their specialties is their softserve pies which come in flavors like Original Fried Softserve (think corn cereal and milk!), Cookies and Cream (vegan), and Mexican Hot Chocolate (vegan, GF). Their pies come in slices or whole if you're trying to treat someone to a special occassion or share among some friends. The last pie I ordered was an ube softserve pie for my brother's birthday and it had nice shredded coconut throughout which nicely complemented the ube flavor. It was like a buko pandan meets ube type situtation. Don't sleep on Magpie's!

Amazing for a quick dessert! I popped in after dinner and ordered the strawberry shortcake pie. Bonus points for being vegan (all the pies are, I think). Really delicious, with a texture very similar to ice cream and a rich, buttery crust. There aren't a whole lot of seats inside, but it wasn't particularly crowded even on the weekend. Service was quick and friendly; I was offered samples of the various soft serve flavors, and they were all really good. There are also kiosks where you can order. Parking can be a little bit of a pain. All street parking outside, but if you circle around a few times, people are usually coming and going pretty quickly. You'll find a spot eventually!

Got an Oreo Coffee Pie for my husband's bday and everyone who ate it reported that the Oreo cookies tasted like soap. Now we have been to Magpies many times and we love the soft serve so this was a no-brainer but I would never get a pie again. It was expectedly very expensive and frankly, inedible. What a disappointment!

The ice cream itself was really yummy! I was a big fan of the cappuccino and strawberry hibiscus flavors. I also tried the honeycomb flavor, and it was really good too. [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, the vibe in there felt soo off.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had an order of six items, and they made me feel like I was an inconvenience. When I asked for lids and a bag, I got the same feeling again...

Came here and got the original fried pie, but was disappointed. My main issue is that this is a softserve place and the softserve in this pie was completely frozen solid. We were trying to hack away at the pie, but you would hope that they get the consistency and temp correct so that it's ready to eat. I think it could have been better if we waited 15 min for it to thaw, but we were hungry. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is very bright and colorful inside, with some seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This was expected but the pie was extremely sweet. Flavors were good but could not tolerate more than 3 bites, even as someone with a major sweet tooth, so would recommend sharing. Not sure if I'll be back for their pies, maybe the softserve. Also $11 per slice is pretty insane for it to be okay.

Egg Nog & Graham Cracker Swirl / Strawberry Softserve Pie 11-24-2024

We love Magpies Softserve Pies!! If you haven't tried them yet, you should! Our usual location to visit is in Silverlake, off of Griffith Park Blvd. That is their original location. We had never been to this location, so we thought we'd check it out. I'm so happy we did! Parking can be a challenge. Seems to be all metered. There are lots of businesses along this stretch of York Blvd in Highland Park. We found a spot and walked to the the shop. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is open and airy. The tables are bright yellow and everything else is black & white. I was really happy to see there were a couple of tables inside[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I didn't really want to eat my ice cream outside. There are some patio tables & chairs outside for those who do. The lady behind the counter was helpful and we briefly chatted before ordering. It wasn't very busy, maybe only a customer or two at a time. She had our order out in no time. We took a good look at the menu boards to see what we wanted. We settled on a slice of the Strawberry Softserve Pie. It is a Strawberry Rhubarb softserve layered with housemade rhubarb jam, brown sugar coffee cake, whipped cream, brown sugar crumble in a graham cracker crust. OMGosh, it is out of this world! You can buy a slice for $10.95 or the whole pie for $49.95 whole pie. I probably could have polished off the entire pie (over time) with no regrets! We only bought a slice and shared it. We have tried other pies, but my favorite is their Original Fried Softserve Pie. I love the honeycomb pieces throughout! Hubby equally enjoys the pies, however, he really loves soft-serve. We got the Egg Nog & Graham Cracker Swirl for $6.25. The Graham Cracker Swirl overpowered the Egg Nog, so we didn't think it was a very good flavor combination. You can get the soft-serve swirled with 2 flavors that are indicated with a squiggly line connecting the flavors or 2 separate flavors, or just one flavor. They have weekly flavors. You can buy Pints to take home, too! They also have toppings which are housemade! Like I said, I love their honeycomb! There are some unique toppings like Butterscotch Rice Krispies and Brown Sugar Oats. The next time we go to Magpies, I'm going to suggest we only come here. The distance is practically the same (far!), but it's worth it to me to be able to enjoy my ice cream inside the shop.

Pies and soft serve. My kids love this place for the soft serve, I come here for the pies. After eating a meal nearby and wanting dessert.... Or just a hot day and needing something to cool off. This is definitely a go to spot for that sweet tooth. You can't really go wrong with any of the pies. If you want to try soft serve, they offer free samples till you find something you like. Highly recommend!

Food: Cool concept of an ice cream pie! We ordered the original fried soft serve pie, on the pricier side ($11 for a slice). I appreciated how the ice cream actually tasted like corn and liked the crunchiness of the corn flakes topping. The slice is layered well with a graham crust, chocolate syrup on the bottom, a fat layer of "honeycomb", and a bunch of whip cream on top. Overall good, but all the flavors were a bit too sweet. Honeycomb layer was hard to eat. Service: Staff were friendly here! :) Ambiance: [[HIGHLIGHT]]Only 2 tables inside and some tables outside, so it may be better for a grab and go situation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very clean and modern feel![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I ordered the whole Original Fried Softserve Pie and it's vegan with nuts, for a dinner birthday celebration. Pick up was quick and I was in n out within less than 5 minutes. I first tried their soft serve ice cream at their Silverlake location a few years ago and loved it, so I was excited to try this "pie" for the first time. It had layers with a flavor something that is like toffee (not really sure what it is). I love the nutty crust of the pie. I was also lucky enough to find parking right in front of the store!

Then Long Beach Creamery opened and we weren't that sad for that long, but still, I absolutely still thought about them every once in a while, sad that they'd left. Then, a much closer eternity ago (about a year ago - I've been super burned-out and not finishing my reviews), I was on my way from an event back to the blue line and walked by and noticed that they had, in fact, just moved. So obviously we had to get some. Verdict - yes, it absolutely was as good as I remembered. I wouldn't go back to DTLA just for ice cream, Long Beach Creamery being walking distance and wonderful, but I would absolutely stop here if I were back in DTLA and wanted ice cream. It's a bit pricey, but all craft ice cream is going to be, and it is definitely craft. And you can save a lot by getting a 3-scoop, which is very much enough to share for two people, if not slightly too much.
