This review is not for the location but the ice cream itself. We had their fantastic lavashak ice cream at the 2nd annual smorgasjoon event, also known as smorgasburg. The ice cream was creamy and delicious and the lavashak gave it a fantastic kick of sour that you get from a sour fruit roll. I will definitely venture out to try more of their flavors! I definitely recommend giving them a try!
I love a little middle eastern ice cream action! They encourage you to sample as many of the flavors as you'd like which is really nice. They may even add the toppings on your sample too so you get the whole experience. Delicious flavors to choose from. Seating is limited, but it's located in a prime walking location anyways, so it doesn't matter all that much. If there is a line, it is still worth the wait.
My husband and I stopped by here on Monday night after eating at Edwin Mills. My husband had this spot bookmarked a while ago and didn't realize they were neighboring businesses. When we arrived, we were the only two there for a few minutes until more people came. We were greeted right away. We walked down a ramp that led us to their selections. It's a decent-sized shop with a few tables. Each table had a rose in a vase attached via velcro so you don't have to worry about tipping them over. The shop is also nicely decorated with wall art. It's been a few days since then and we can't stop thinking about coming back. They serve unique Middle-Eastern flavored ice cream. I ordered the Sesame Halva which is their vegan ice cream made of Halva ice cream with sesame & coconut. OMG, I've never tasted anything like this before. I love anything that has a sesame profile. If you like that nutty, sweet, and earthy flavor this one is for you. I could taste the coconut, but it wasn't overpowering. There were also little chunks of halva in there that added a slight bit of sweetness. The texture was similar to cookie dough, but softer. Aside from the taste, I loved the simple presentation of the small rose on top of the scoop. It made it look elegant. As you can tell, I am definitely coming back and highly recommend stopping by.
Wow, I found Kinrose via Yelp. I wanted to try a unique local ice cream spot and saw the floss rose ice cream cup and was very curious. We got the Walnut Baklava and Sour Cherry & Fairy floss (pashmak).. both were delicious! I love how my sour cherry complimented the fairy floss so much and I love eating the floss, which I believe is the sweet cream Iranian candy floss. My bf really liked the Walnut Baklava, it was a bit too sweet for my taste, but it was full of flavor. They also encourage you to taste the flavor before committing to buying but I knew what I wanted and was so happy with my choice. Def would recommend and would def come back if I'm in the area.
The flavors are unlike anything else and it takes me ages to decide on my 1-2 scoops because I want them all. Two of my favorites are probably the Saffron Pistachio Rose and Fig and Olive. Quite hard to get seating on a Friday evening, as would be expected, but it's a nice establishment to chill out in if you manage to get a table.
Finally Checked This Spot Off My Yelp List -- Worth the Wait! Finally got to try KINROSE, which has been sitting on my Yelp list for over a year now -- and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! First things first, this place is definitely hidden in an alleyway, so make sure you have your Google Maps ready or you might walk right past it like we almost did. The moment I saw their Fairy Floss Sour Cherry, I was completely mesmerized -- so you already know I had to order it. This flavor is made with sour cherries and sweet cream dressed in Iranian candy floss, topped with pistachio dust, and it was hands-down my absolute favorite of the night. Singles are $8 and duos are $10.50, which is pretty reasonable considering how unique the flavors are. Fairy Floss Sour Cherry -- 9.2/10 The sour cherry had that perfect balance of sweet with a subtle tang, and the fairy floss texture added such a fun, delicate touch. The flavors paired beautifully together -- definitely the star of the night for me. Hubby ordered the duo, and I helped pick the flavors (of course ): Walnut Baklava -- 8/10 This one had a brown sugar and spiced walnut base topped with baked baklava bits. The walnut flavor was subtle, and I appreciated that it wasn't overly sweet. The baklava topping added a nice texture without being too heavy. Saffron Pistachio Rose -- 7/10 A delicate flavor made with pure Iranian saffron ice cream, rosebud garnish, and crunchy pistachio bits. Quick tip -- don't be like me and think the rosebud decoration is edible... because it's not lol. The flavor was interesting, but the saffron was very light, so it didn't stand out as much as I expected. This ended up being my least favorite of the three. Since there were so many unique flavors, the staff kindly let us sample a few others -- and I really appreciated that because it made choosing even harder! I also got to try: * Fig & Olive * Ahwa Qahveh Date (Creamy Coffee) * Sheer Moz Brulee * Konafa * Labna Honeycomb There are honestly so many flavors to explore, which just means we'll definitely be back. The servers were incredibly sweet and patient with us while we sampled, and even though they were busy, the service was still very fast and efficient. You can definitely tell this is a local favorite spot for a late-night sweet treat. Between the creative flavors, friendly service, and fun experience, this place easily makes it into my Top 5 ice cream spots. A definite must-try if you're in the area -- and yes, I'm already planning my next visit with hubby. Happy eats!
Kinrose located in the alleyway is a hidden gem. The staff is always friendly and emphasizes that you can literally sample as much as you want. With the flavors being so new to me, I truly appreciate that because not all ice cream shops are serviceable like that. My go to flavor has to be the Walnut Baklava with brown sugar. The ice cream is flavorful and creamy and they're very generous with the topping. The shop has plenty tables and seating indoors along with 2-3 tables outdoors. The only small complaint I have is the table decorations are permanently in the middle of the table haha but that doesn't take away from giving them 5 stars.
I went here yesterday afternoon. It's a hole in the wall, found it in an alley. Voices echo when people talk. I love the potted plants, makes it greener. I like the floor to ceiling windows. The employee asked us if we wanted to try the flavors. I chose the walnut baklava. A rose is on each table. Music plays through the speaker. I chose the single walnut baklava in the end. It had a perfect amount of walnut and baklava pieces or crumbs. A flower bud was placed on top to enhance the presentation which I appreciated. I ended up being full after eating it.
Kinrose Creamery is a cute little ice cream shop in Pasadena located on a small alley way. This ice cream shop offers very unique flavors that surprisingly mix well and actually tastes delicious. I would have to say the flavors are more of an acquired taste but nonetheless very good and worth trying!
Absolutely love coming here! This time I got the Sour Cherry & Fairy Floss and the Pistachio Kanafa with Chocolate Shell, and both totally delivered. The sour cherry flavor was perfectly balanced -- not overly tart at all. It had this subtle yogurt-like creaminess that paired so well with the sweetness of the fairy floss. Such a fun combo without being overpowering and textures are amazing! The pistachio kanafa was just as impressive -- super nutty, rich, and really solid in flavor. I prefer the pistachio alone without chocolate but adding chocolate gave a fun texture difference. On top of the amazing flavors, they offer samples (including toppings!), which makes it even more fun to try new things. And there's 2 free Pac-Man arcade machines you can play while you're there -- such a cool bonus. Overall, I love it here and will definitely keep coming back!
Very yummy middle eastern flavors! At a shop down Mills Alley. We tried the halva and the konafa, and went with the konafa! Very delicious with the phyllo dough crunchies on it, as well as a couple of beautiful edible rose blooms. Reminds of Booza I've had in Berkeley! Cute little shop, and friendly scoopers who were really patient handing everyone samples!

This Middle Eastern ice cream place opened a while back in Old Pasadena and I found it while strolling around after eating something nearby. It has one of the most unique lineups for ice cream I've ever encountered. I was able to get samples of the Saffron Pistachio Rose, Walnut Baklava, Lavashak, and Egyptian Mint Chip flavors. I picked Saffron Pistacho Rose because it wasn't too sweet and was very aromatic. I liked the Walnut Baklava as well because they had baklava bits to go along with the brown sugar in the ice cream. The place has a cool/cozy vibe and they even have an old Pacman arcade machine in here! Service was also fantastic, would come back to try more flavors in the future! read more

The two staff members greeted us and gave us their recommendations and they also include topping with their samples which is pretty cool. Stopped by after learning they have a vegan flavor, sesame halva which they top with halva floss and a rose. It's a nice spot if you're coming with a group that is already set on getting dessert here and don't want to feel left out otherwise it was just okay. I wouldn't come here just for this ice cream as it was just okay. I wish they had more non dairy options as the other flavors seemed more interesting. The service was good, they were friendly and quick. I paid cash and was told it was an option if I was okay not getting any change back. read more
What a unique, high quality, and experiential gem!!!! Flavors are on point with middle eastern influence, textures are divine taking the experience to the next level (e.g, honeycomb, Turkish spun sugar, olive oil), and the everything is aesthetically pleasing! Sunday Summer Date Night takes us to this great little spot in Old Town Pasadena. Kinrose Creamery is serving up some very unique flavors (Iranian and Egyptian influenced) in a hidden alley of the Rose City. Upon entry past a few chairs and tables out front, you find a cute little store, lit up with bright colored art, couches, tables and chairs, along with some (random?) retro Pac-Man arcade additions. After taking the ramp down to the glass-encased treat displays, you'll find some very friendly faces to help you navigate the menu and even offer you a free sample (or two) before making your decision. The menu has some very original and wonderful flavor combinations. For this visit, we decided on Single Scoops ($7.50 each) of Walnut Baklava and Saffron Pistachio Rose. If you can't decide on one flavor, for an additional $2.00, you can upgrade to the "duo" option and make all your dreams come true. Both options are in cup form - a cone is an additional $.50. The Walnut Baklava is a brown sugar spiced walnut ice cream with freshly baked baklava bits on top. The ice cream was delicious, not overpowering, and the chopped baklava added additional depth and crunch to the mix. The Saffron Pistachio Rose is a wonderfully delicate creamy saffron infused delight with rose buds and crunchy Californian pistachio bits. This ice cream is also not overpowering, but smooth and delicious with the nutty topping. Prices are pretty much what you'd expect for quality, small-batch homemade ice creams. The quality is quite good, wonderful textures and flavors and pretty good sized portions given the price. Also, they don't accept cash, credit/debit only. No bathroom on site and parking is available with street meters are the Green Street Garage is just a few steps away. Definitely worth the trip in to beat the summer heat. read more
I was super excited to try Middle Eastern-inspired ice cream for the first time, and I was not disappointed! Highly recommend checking out this place. I don't think this place has its own parking lot so you would need to find street parking. Old Town Pasadena is a very nice place to walk through, so I didn't mind having to park further away and exploring the city. The orange blossom pistachio flavor was my favorite. It tasted exactly like the orange blossom jam that my friend's mom made for me years ago. I felt like I was reliving a happy memory as I ate this ice cream. There was also a good amount of pistachio pieces mixed inside the ice cream. The saffron pistachio rose was also very good with a unique flavor that I don't know how to describe. But you don't have to take my word for it. The servers are very polite and allow you to sample as many flavors as you would like. I enjoyed the ambiance as well. The seating is aesthetically pleasing, and there are also two PAC-Man arcade games that are open to customers. read more

This is some of the best Persian ice cream I've ever had. The place is really cute and the individuals who work here are very sweet and patient. They have traditional flavors like Saffron with Pistachio, and some more niche ones like Sheer Moz, Baklava, and even Lavashak! After hearing about this new ice cream joint that specializes in fusion flavors with Middle Eastern roots, I was ecstatic to finally try it. I roped my Yelp bestie Hannah S. into going with me, and we both had a great time. Located in the same alley as my favorite local coffee house (Savvvy's), the shop is colorful and gives off retro vibes, especially with the old school Pac-man machine in the corner. I definitely felt nostalgic as we entered the shop. Anyways, though limited, their ice cream menu boasts some of the most distinctive and quirky flavors I have seen in a good long while. After sampling nearly everything, I decided on the sour cherry ice cream with fairy floss. Bursting with tartness, my ice cream was perfection on a hot summer afternoon. The fairy floss topping paired well with the tart ice cream, and reminded me of cotton candy but with a more stringy texture. After a highly anticipated grand opening covered across food publications and social media, I was estatic to finally try Kinrose Creamery. It's not every day an ice cream shop specializing in authentic Middle Eastern flavors opens up in your neck of the woods. I've been on a baklava roll lately, and the opportunity to try it in ice cream form was a real treat! Deliciously sweet, rich and nutty and topped with walnuts and crunchy phyllo dough, this was one of the most memorable ice cream flavors I've had to date. I also tried it with the saffron pistachio rose ice cream which was also lovely and fragrant. The shop is located in an alleyway within Pasadena Old Town. It features a cute, trendy ambiance with enough seating for patrons to sit and enjoy. The worker who assisted me as friendly and generous with their serving sizes, which definitely earns an A in my book. read more

Fun ice cream spot with retro vibes, lovely staff, and some of the most unique flavors you'll find in the area! Their website says their flavors are Iranian and Egyptian influenced - we sampled almost all of them and they're great! Shout out to YES queen Sam B for finding this spot :D The staff were so nice - the flavors are quite unique so I think it's great that they let you sample until you settle on ones you really like. And they offer a split scoop option in case you have trouble deciding like we did lol! We ended up both going with split scoops of Sour Cherry & Fairy Floss on top with Saffron Pistachio Rose on bottom. The sour cherry flavor comes topped with a delicate nest of super sweet "fairy floss" which they describe as Iranian cotton candy. It's very sweet and has a more coarse texture than typical cotton candy - it's lovely and I especially enjoyed how it complimented the sour cherry flavor - excellent combo. The saffron pistachio rose is also delicious- very nice mix of the three flavor profiles. I enjoyed it but it was a little mild for my preference- I would've preferred stronger flavors but it's just a personal preference and I still very much liked it. It also went well with the sour cherry flavor surprisingly. The vibes inside are retro and entertaining - very energetic, fun place to hang out - they even have some old school PAC Man machines and nice wall art. It's a nice wide open space with good flow and lots of seating. Prices are pretty much what you'd expect for these novelty flavors in the area. The quality is definitely there - the ice cream has lovely texture and is well made. Portions are generous. It's in a central part of Old Town Pas so lots of great spots to explore and very walkable. Parking is either street parking or in one of many garages. Will definitely return to try more flavors! read more
Thank goodness ease for the sign on the Main Street with most traffic letting us know it is at the end of the alley. It is definitely hard to find without the signs and lighting. We came during the day and even almost missed it. Thank you Waze and the signage. Very simple few items but wow what a treat!!! The saffron with pistachio rose is a must! You will def taste the amazing rose and saffron that is overwhelming. It was a beautiful treat. Not sure why the rose is there but do not eat it. It is decor I feel. Nice IG moment. The orange pistachio was a bit of a disappointment as I did not taste orange at all! It was like vanilla ice cream with added pistachios. Not a fan. Will be back for other flavors. Kinrose Creamery was the perfect date night place to wind down, cuddle up and enjoy together some yummy ice cream with middle eastern roots. Before deciding which flavors to get the staff was very attentive and offered us spoon samples to taste any flavors we were curious to try. I decided to go for the saffron pistachio rose, which was not only presented beautifully with a rose on top but also delicious making my taste buds very happy. My date ordered the walnut baklava and enjoyed it so much that he finished all his ice cream way before I did. Date night was a success and we both enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be referring to others. read more

I have been wanting to try this place ever since I saw my friend go here. They are an Iranian / Middle Eastern ice cream shop tucked away in one of the small alleyways of Pasadena. I love how they have different options and flavors that you don't normally get at an ice cream shop. I Got the duo: Konafa - Sweet cream topped with crunchy baked phyllo & Saffron Pistachio Rose - Iranian saffron infused with rose buds & crunchy pistachio bits. And my cousin got the walnut baklava. The servers were very friendly and provided great service. They let you sample the ice cream so you have an idea of what to get. I will definitely be coming back to try their other flavors. read more

My friend and I found this spot randomly walking through Pasadena and honestly. I couldn't wait to try it out. They had so many great flavors inside. I got the baklava ice cream and the pistachio saffron rose ice cream. I would love to add that the toppings on top of the ice cream was just the cherry on top. it literally made the ice cream look so cute. I was not even expecting that little rose on top is really adorable. My friend and I actually accidentally ate the rose lol. Still tasted good Both were delicious my friend got the cherry ice cream and I recommend if you really like cherry it's a little tart, but it has good flavor. Service was fast. Can I just say that the prices are very affordable and honestly I thought I was gonna be spending a pretty penny and I was shocked at how convenient the prices were and I'm definitely coming back . Really sweet and accommodating extremely from the girls that gave us our ice cream. my friend and I decided to eat outside because the weather was really nice around 7 o'clock good. I finally found an ice cream store on the same level in terms of value as Wanderlust! While $2 more expensive for the quantity of ice cream, this place is also a bit more upscale. We got a double for $9.50. We tried the konafa/knafeh (least favorite), sour cherry with fairy floss (got this to try the fairy floss), fig and olive (our favorite, comes with an olive oil drizzle), and orange flower pistachio (perhaps slightly better than sour cherry but did not come with fairy floss). Service was so kind and attentive. The space is large, colorful, and has plenty of seating. We will definitely be back! read more

Found this gem through Yelp. The picture instantly caught my eye and I originally thought it was dragon beard candy on top of ice cream which would be really amazing! Apparently, I was short of the mark. It was instead the Middle Eastern version of cotton candy instead of the Chinese version but boy was I still happy to have found this place. The cotton candy on top of ice cream was the Sour Cherry & Fairy Floss, which is one of their most popular ones. Their other popular one is the Walnut Baklava. You can sample the flavors before purchasing. I got the Fairy Floss the first time and I would say the initial few bites were delicious and refreshing. However, the enjoyment quickly goes away afterwards as the taste itself is not very strong and the whole cotton candy is pretty gimmicky. I came back a second time and got the Walnut Baklava, and I have to say, it is absolutely amazing! It tastes what you would expect from a Baklava pastry dessert but lighter since it is in ice cream form. I would definitely come back again the future. I would say though, the AC here was barely keeping this place cool even though we came at 8:30pm in July but maybe it was a one off situation. read more

Their ice cream flavors are amazing, but that's also why I felt so bad for the quality of this photo. I didn't pick the best lighting or angle, because I was in a rush eating it lol. You can try their flavors and my favorite are tamarind and olive oil ones, so unique and all the flavors from the ice cream work together so well. I'll miss their ice cream for sure. read more
My first time having Iranian sweets and it was lovely. I came here about two Saturdays ago around 8:30PM and it wasn't really busy. It got busy around 8:50PM after we had ordered and sat down. Another reviewer mentioned how other places offer two flavors (smaller scoops than a single) for the price of one, and I must agree that this place should offer that as well. They do offer samples! The staff was nice and patient and our ice cream went until the bottom of our cones! I ordered the Orange Flower Pistachio (Ishta) and my friend got Walnut Baklava. Delicious and definitely would return to try the other flavors. The interior is really cute, with a few small tables. There is seating outside too. Since it is in Old Town, in an alleyway, parking is available in the structures and on the street. read more

I went here with some friends while visiting Pasadena. We ordered the Orange Flower Pistachio and the Walnut Baklava. I liked that they let you sample the flavors before deciding and that most of the flavors were pretty unique. The interior was very cute and had a good amount of seating so we were able to relax for a while. I would definitely come back! read more

It costs $7.50 for a scoop and only one flavor, and it's an extra $2 to get two. Was really tempted to get two flavors, but felt a bit put off by the extra charge considering that other places like Wanderlust Creamery lets you get two flavors for a single scoop. The texture is really smooth and creamy, with a consistency very close to that of soft serve ice cream. But, the flavors are very subtle. We got the Saffron Pistachio Rose and Sheer Aroz. The latter was very simple - probably the most vanilla flavor on the menu. I liked that the rice bits in the cream added some texture, and the cinnamon powder wasn't very strong that it didn't compromise the flavor of the ice cream itself. I could taste the saffron in the former, but it was pretty light. I also sampled the Orange Flower Pistachio and that was very, very subtle. Compared to the Sheer Aroz, it didn't taste that much different, because it was that subtle. I just prefer stronger, more pronounced flavors in ice cream and the ones I tried didn't quite do it for me. I'd definitely return, but would probably get something else. Compared to Wanderlust Creamery, I think Kinrose Creamery is better quality in terms of texture, but I much prefer the taste of the distinct flavors in the former. read more
To this day, I haven't found an ice cream brand that can hold a candle to Kinrose. The uniqueness of the flavors alone warrant a trek to Pasadena. And as someone who has both an intense love for dessert but a sensitivity to sugar, I'm extremely happy to report that their ice cream is just the right amount of sweetness. Not cloying at all and not too sweet - probably the ultimate compliment from an Asian person. Kinrose reached out and assured me that the double scoop is indeed supposed to be bigger than the single scoop and the orders must be weighed to ensure this. They've mitigated the situation and I am super stoked to know that what occurred was merely growth pains - something that all businesses go through. It's inevitable that as Kinrose gets more popular, some hiccups happen along the way. But one thing about Kinrose remains the same: they have always, always cared so much about their customers. And they will continue to. That's why they take great pains to listen to feedback - they know that in it lies the possibility of growth. I'm honestly blown away by their humility and desire to be better. Not all brands are like this, which is why I predict that Kinrose will, in the long run, remain peerless and unmatched. Go and visit their Pasadena branch! It is seriously so adorable-looking. It's decorated such that you won't have a problem finding a perch for your Kinrose cup to take the perfect Instagram shot. In a few more days, I'm meeting up with some girlies from the Inland Empire and I'm taking them to Kinrose to introduce them to their mind-blowing flavors. As tempting as it is to gate-keep this little ice cream shop, I want to help ensure their longevity because this company embodies all the right values. Mark my words, Kinrose will one day become a common household name nationwide. And judging by how long the lines always get whenever I swing by, it's a certainty that that day will come pretty soon. read more
After walking around old town Pasadena (post dinner) my friend suggested an ice cream dessert. She suggested a few "standard" options in the area. And then she asked, if I would be interested in something new and different, Kinrose, a Persian shop. I love Persian ice cream and emphatically said, YES!" When we walked in, around 7:30p on a Friday night there were just a few people outside eating ice cream. As we walked inside, there were a few people already eating and no line. The person at the counter warmly greeted us and said we could try all of the flavors. He recommended the sour cherry and lavashak ice cream. Taking my friend's lead, I ordered a double scoop and was so happy to have a foodie friend that was like minded and not afraid to just go for it when it comes to ice cream. Our double scoops were ample and beautifully presented. I have to say not only was the ice cream gorgeous to look at, it was literally the best ice cream I've had in a very long time. The sour cherry with cotton candy had me puckering in a good way. And the lavashak with sour fruit roll... WOW! I am still thinking about it and wishing I had more. As we sat inside happily eating our double scoops, the shop filled with people. The line that formed was impressively long. It was great to see! I hope Kinrose thrives and opens more shops! This place is special and was a perfect sweet treat! Love this place! Parking is what it is in old town Pasadena. Street parking or public lots are all around. Definitely a must try when in the area.
