I saw this body shop had high stars on Yelp so I called to ask if they would perform the work. Their immediate response was "no" and "we don't do that kind of work and only install OEM components." I kindly asked " do you recommend anyone else that will do this work for me?". Immediate "nope, you'll just have to call around" They were about as helpful as a broken fence post and could care less in my opinion. My next phone call was to Underhood Automotive. Immediately helpful and professional. Chris said they do this kind of work all the time and install DOT legal headlights on older Shasta County Search and Rescue vehicles. Every single question I asked was answered. I live 4 hours away from Redding so coordinating this was somewhat of a Challenge. Chris even told me my mom's car had loud squeeking brakes and he would inspect those as well. Strong Automotive has high stars so I'm guessing their body work is pretty good but customer service is also very important and in this department, they have a long way to go.

It was Sunday and I was going back home to the Bay. Suddenly my tire got flat (first time in the past 8 years) so I had to tow the car and spend a night in Redding since no shops were working at the time I got to the city. Monday morning I called a bunch of shops and was told over and over that they can only get me a tire the next morning. I called Mike as well and was told the same but somehow they actually found a tire and called me back. So in a couple of hours, I towed my car to Mike's and was greeted with a family-like atmosphere like they've been working on every car of my family starting from great parents. In just a half-hour the car was fixed, checked, and good to go. I had a bittersweet moment when leaving the shop and hitting the road on my way home. I will definitely drop by next time I pass by Redding just to say hi. Overall, If you ever have any issues with a car and happen to be near Redding, this is the place to go. I can't give a high enough rating to R & R Auto Truck Repair and to Kevin in particular. While…read moredriving to Reno, Nevada, on hwy 89 my truck had a malfunction and stopped running. I contacted AAA and had the truck towed 80 miles to R & R. Kevin called 2 days later to tell me that it had a broken exhaust pipe at the manifold, and they could repair it for $450. We drove from Grants Pass back to Shasta Lake to pick it up and headed back towards home. About 5 miles from home the truck started making the exact same noise. When I got it it home I pulled the exhaust/catalytic converters and discovered the repair had failed. I contacted Kevin and he asked what I wanted to do. I told him I would order a new exhaust/catalytic converter and install it myself, because I didn't want to drive the 2 1/2 hours back to the shop. Kevin told me to order the parts and he would reimburse me the entire amount, which I did. I provided the amount to Kevin and received a check from him in a few days. Not only did Kevin stand behind his work, he went the extra mile by reimbursing me for the parts. I can't say enough about the level of customer service Kevin provided! I highly recommend them as a trustworthy shop.

Also Rick is great at sounding reasonable but in reality once challenged or questioned he sulks and grumbles. I know rebuild take time and I know how old my suzuki is. The alternator on my truck suddenly died and just like that, what was promising to be a fun trip, turned into a nightmare. More than just needing work, the alternator on this one is mounted on the bottom, behind the engine, right over the exhaust. While I do pretty much anything myself, I was on the road, far from home, and this job required big tools. If you are in such a situation, reading my review, you know the feeling. Trapped. Unlike my home auto repair market L.A. that is very saturated with such businesses, here in Redding, it seemed there is almost no where to go. And everyone was asking... let's just say an amount that would make an entire LaBrea (LA) come out of their shops and say "WTH? We can charge that?". But I kept searching. And I have found Steve. May I say "Fair Price"? Now, I know, I know. I thought so too. But, I had a pleasure of chatting with some of the local shops before I found Steve, (spent an entire previous day), so, I already knew better. Steve's shop looks like a normal auto shop is supposed to look, if you know what I mean. I liked that. I always want that. And was at the shop, met me personally, looked at everything, made some tests to be certain, and took the job. He showed me exactly which brand of the alternator he is going to install, and that was the one I would have chosen myself. And he kept his word and charged me exactly by the quote. No tricks whatsoever (trust me, I know them all, been around auto repair for a long time). He has two good mechanics there and the job was done perfectly. I like small details, and I always want the repair done right, I demand that from myself and from others. I looked over my truck after the repair, and I found myself to be completely satisfied. Nothing was forgotten, nothing broken, nothing put back the wrong way. Like a factory. Now, to me the price and quality matters, of course, I am just like everyone else. But, I tell you even more important is the quality of the man and his word. I always try to find the shop that is owned by the man who will stand behind his reputation. Steve is the man. If you have found yourself needing honest and qualified mechanical assistance, - my good advice to you is go see Steve. I have a female relative there in Redding, and it is always a big deal which shop do you trust enough to send her to. Well, she ll be going to Frank's S & S Auto Repair, I can tell you that.
