Kisa is an ode to the "Kisasikdang", which are Korean diners catering to taxi drivers. They are conveniently located eateries serving nourishing, inexpensive food. There is only one thing on the menu (Baek Ban), a traditional Korean meal comprised of rice, soup, and banchan (side dishes), centered around your choice of protein. It costs $32, and does not include refills. The interior reminded my husband of his Korean grandma's house. I opted for the Sanchae Bibimbap (the only meatless option on the menu) which included a generous portion of tender, flavorful mountain vegetables. My husband enjoyed the Bulgogi. The Banchan were delicious; I loved the variety of textures and flavors. My favorites were the house made kimchi, tri-color Jeon, spicy squid Jeotgal, and Radish Namul. I was a bit torn between a three and four star review here. Five stars for the service and the banchan: the marinated salmon is amazing!!! Our table definitely asked for extras of this side. I liked all of the side dishes; the soup was really good, the bean sprouts were great, the kimchi was great, the radish was great, the chicken was good... The servers were fast. It was ~1 hour wait from putting our names down to being seated, but I think I can only blame ourselves for not anticipating a longer wait at an instagram-popular establishment. (We hung out at the cute churro shop across the street while waiting). Also, visually impressive to see all of the banchan in a ring around our entrees! I'm also usually definitely someone who enjoys the banchan more than the entrees, even the best galbi in LA...but ultimately, I really wasn't impressed by my entree (the bulgogi). I think that if there are only 4 different entree options, they should all be reliably good, and our bulgogi was too dry. All the banchan beside kimchi is $2 extra. Without prompting, the servers told us that this was to reduce food waste, because people were wasting a lot more food before they started this policy. (We thought that was an odd explanation when you can take food home.) They're probably not /wrong/ in that people are wasting less food, but it feels a little silly that replacing a little dish of bean sprouts should be $2. I know they rotate their entrees and I think I would still come back (the price isn't insane for New York, and the banchan was great...) to try something else, but for now, I wouldn't comeback for the bulgogi. read more

Not my first meal of the 2025 but already stamping the food as the bet i'm going to have this year. The inside is v small and super homey. The decor around the restaurant honestly makes you feel like you're dining in someone's home which I kinda like. The menu is simple and straight forward and we came for the korean bbq dishes. I got the spicy pork and my friend got the bulgogi. LOVED BOTH. The assortment of banchan was also pretty tasty. Came on a Saturday night and waited 2 hours to be sat despite being told the wait was only an hour and a half. I got the spicy pork, which was nothing special, but I did enjoy the banchans on the side. I especially liked the egg, Korean pancake (전), and gimmari (김마리). The soup on the side was delicious, and the black bean latte you get as you leave by the door is so good. This was pretty fairly priced for the amount of food, but certainly not worth waiting more than an hour for. I feel a little silly writing this review because a fellow Yelper already posted everything I wanted to say. So here's my review to backup the other Yelper's claims. I also waiver giving a three stars. The food was decent but the service and ambiance deserves five stars. They set aside a number of tables for walk ins. If you couldn't get a reservation, the walk in wait isn't so bad. We went on a Monday evening as walk ins. We were told there's a half hour wait. We gave them our # in which we received a text when our table was ready. The host and servers were all courteous and welcoming. There was a complimentary plate of rice puffs sprinkled with soy bean powder on every table. They gave us plenty of time to scan the QR code to see the menu. It's a small menu - there are four choices of protein that comes with many side dishes. The only other things for purchase are drinks and lettuce add on. Each person gets their own tray of side dishes and their choice of protein. I got the beef bulgogi and my friend got the spicy pork. The other two proteins were squid and bibimbap. The server explained every dish and recommended ways to go about eating all the dishes. I thought the bulgogi had a fragrant taste that I wasn't fond of. My friend's spicy pork was good but honestly, nothing special. It tasted like Hmart marinated pork. Some of the side dishes stood out like the raw marinated salmon which was fresh. And the spicy squid had a nice chewy texture. It was about $45 per person after tax and tips. There's a coffee machine by the door that you can grab a complimentary cup (about 4oz?) of latte, black bean latte (no caffeine) or hot chocolate. As a party of 3, we managed to get seated real quick on a weekend. The lunch menu only has 2 items: Gamjatang vs Donkatsu. Gamjatang: If you're looking for a hearty soup with super tender meat, look no further! Enjoyed its seasoning and the balance between pork, veggies, and glass noodles. Comes with side dishes featuring chives and radish. Donkatsu: Tender pork cutlets that were fried very nicely. The demi-glaze was a little sweeter and less tangy than other places, but that's why I think I enjoyed it more! The ratio of sauce to meat was also spot on. Enjoyed the salad with sesame sauce and the other side dishes. In addition, they partnered up with this Korean instant coffee company, Newmix, and are giving out free samples at the end of your meal! Did find it dry though. Nice portion size. Comes with a side of soup and rice. I think the banchan is hit or miss. Some I really liked (salmon, chicken, squid) but the others were mid (pancake, egg, potato) and lacked a lot of flavor. The kimchi was particularly bad but it's the only free refill one. Kisa is all the rage in LES right now and I'd say it lived up to the hype. It striked a good balance between homey meals and fancy dining (mainly cause of the price per set). Simple setup, you pick your choice of protein during the dinner service from Spicy Squid, Beef Bulgogi, Spicy Pork, and Tofu Bibimbap. Everybody gets an array of tasty banchans with some less common ones like raw whole shrimps which you can refill up to three times. So you do get pretty darn full. My best friend & I have been eyeing Kisa since they opened, but were initially deterred by the long lines and wait times. As a fan of C as in Charlie, I knew I would enjoy Kisa as well, but just had to get myself through those doors! After waiting for the hype to die down a bit, we came by with a friend at 4:50 pm on a Monday in hopes of getting in with the first wave of diners. It was the perfect time - we were 4th in line behind 2 other small groups. As a party of 3, the obvious choice for us was to get all 3 protein options (spicy pork, spicy squid, and bulgogi). The concept is quite genius, and makes for easy ordering. Each entree was $32, and veggies for saam are $3 (skip!). We received our orders really quickly after - probably all within 10 minutes. Each order came with rice, soup, the entree choice, and 7 banchan dishes. After splitting our protein choices amongst the 3 of us, there was plenty left for us to enjoy. My favorites of the night were probably the spicy pork and bulgogi, both of which had that yummy smoky flavor to it. The spicy squid was also really good, but I probably wouldn't be able to eat a whole bowl of it myself (splitting was perfect). I enjoyed 5 of the banchan dishes - the soy marinated egg, kimchi, cucumbers, raw shrimp, and fried seaweed rolls. The acorn jelly & an egg/tofu(?) dish unfortunately didn't do it for me. I also really loooved the soup, which was a clear chicken & radish soup. My only gripe is, I wish the food couldve been hotter. It was warm, but I like my soup and meals piping hot! But anywho, as others have mentioned, 3 banchan refills (including the soup) are allowed; rice is an extra $2. I refilled my soup, kimchi, and fried seaweed rolls, and everything came out HOT for the refills (yay!). The wait staff here is really attentive and kind. Our water cups were never empty, and they weren't avoidant when we needed banchan refills. Overall - definitely worth trying at least once. Truth be told, you can definitely get the same meal with unlimited banchan for cheaper in Ktown or Queens. But it's worth checking out for the concept and experience. Homestyle Korean food on the NYT top 100 restaurants list? Surely I was excited to see a restaurant serving such staple Korean food with all the prestige. But its absurdly expensive. The ingredients are evidently good, and the banchan on the more uncommon side of banchan found in America. But it's hard to justify ~$40 for bulgogi, bibimbap, or squid stir-fry. Even for NYC prices. You can get a better meal in ktown with unlimited banchan for cheaper. This place ultimately feels rather gimmicky, an homage to a Korean childhood, which is esp reflected in the decor. But it's evidently catered to the non-Koreans. The non-shared, non-refillable banchan feels the most inauthentic as an experience, and everything is on sweet side- bulgogi, squid stir-fry, and especially the jangjorim. The hype is real! I really enjoyed the food here and it's nice to see a different concept than the usual Korean fare in NYC. Make sure you come super early or make a reservation now that they're available. We made the mistake of coming in on a Friday around 6-7pm and waited for nearly 2 hours to get seated (2 people). The space is not too small but the tables are quite close to each other so it was pretty loud in there. The staff was friendly and attentive even with how busy it must get throughout the night. I've passed by this place so many times on my way to DCP and there's always been a long line going out the door! I started seeing this over my feed and knew that I had to check this place out. I arrived before opening at 4:30 to line up and there was already ~10 people waiting in line. From 4:30 until opening, ~10 more people lined up after me. Thankfully, we made it into the first wave of people. The outside looks pretty small and unassuming but the inside of the restaurant was actually bigger ,albeit not large, than I had expected. The menu's pretty self explanatory: each person needs to get a plate and there's only 3 different entrees to choose from and a bunch of different sides. It didn't sound like a lot of food but their banchan was actually super top tier banchan and they were super generous with the bulgogi entree! They had such unique banchan options: my favorite were the steamed egg rolls, fried rice cake (these were fried to the perfect amount of crispiness) and their potato (you can never go wrong with the sweet potato). They let you refill three of the banchan dishes, and I had a ton of leftovers. We also noticed that pretty much every table had one of their drinks, so we decided to try one for ourselves. We got the grape drink and it was actually not too sweet, though the jellies in the drink were somewhat sweet. All in all, pretty good value. This place is both one-of-a-kind and a first in NYC. KISA means "taxi driver" in Korean but the full name gisa-sikdang are places (in Korea) where busy taxi drivers could enjoy a nice meal during their shift (open 24 hours only in Korea). The concept from owners David JoonWu Yun, Steve JaeWoo Choi and Yong Min Kim arose from their recent visits back to their homeland. They noticed that this type of restaurant was not as abundant as they were years ago. The concept was brought over to NYC last April and the momentum has been strong ever since. The awning and signage are all in Korean and they are at the corner. You cannot miss them if you ever walk or drive by. There is of course a very large Korean Community in NYC who love this concept. But it is not just the Koreans. New Yorkers who work or live and eat near LES (Lower East Side) and who do not work or usually eat near LES were lining up initially to get a seat. When KISA first opened, it was a first come first serve type model. In order to snag a table for the opening time, you would have had to be on the line at least a half hour to an hour before. Due to work and travel, there was no way I was able to make it for opening dinner time. I clearly remember my first time visiting. It was during their first month. I took a drive into Manhattan after work and arrived there around 8:30p. It did not look busy so I thought I was definitely getting a table. When I walked up to the front door, there was a hand written sign notifying people that they were "sold out" of all the dinner ingredients for that night. I was simultaneously devastated yet I was happy for their success. The owners are from the same team that brought us C as In Charlie (which is not too far actually). A short time later they transitioned to a waitlist system (no reservations) where you get notified via text that your table is ready. I dined in on four separate occasions with different guests). My Korean bro said he felt like he was in Korea. The interior has a very nostalgic feel to it....an older model fan mounted to the wall, older style mini tube television playing vintage Korean pop songs. I am not Korean but I could feel the nostalgia too. 'Now the food! As of this review, the offer both a limited lunch (FRI-SUN 11a-2:30p) and daily dinner 5p-11p. I stopped in randomly for lunch on a Sunday recently. I must be cursed with bad timing. When I got there they informed me that out of the two menu items, one was sold out. They offer a tasty pork katsu with a mini salad and rice and a delicious sounding pork back bone soup spicy stew called gamja-tang (I say "delicious sounding because this was sold out lol). The pork cutlet was crispy with the right amount of sauce on top. The dinner menu consist of traditional Korean style meals served at a taxi restaurant. You get your choice of one main entree (marinated beef, spicy pork, stir fried squid or vegetable bibimbap. Each dish comes with 7 seasonal banchan. Initially they had kimchi, marinated shrimps, ricecake and sausage skewer, seaweed, korean eggroll/omelete, beef and potatoes and some assorted vegetables to round things out. Later they updated some of the side dishes to offer maple jelly, seaweed rolls and another shrimp. You get a total of three refills for your banchan. All my guests loved each entree they picked. The beef and pork were savory and delicious. The squid was good as well but has a toughness to it when chewing. The bimbimbap will definitely fill you up. Before each meal you get a some tofu soup and some rice puff snacks. Compliments to Chef Lee. At the end of the meal, you are given a US quarter to use on their vintage coffee / drink machine. There are a few different flavors (milk coffe, black bean latte or hot chocolate). The little cup drops down and fills up at the bottom of the machine. Also a nice hand warmer for these icy chilly winter months. Service I would have to say is quite impeccable. The staff and servers (which sometimes include the owners) are always checking on you and the food comes to the table in a very reasonable amount of time considering they are usually very busy. Kisa is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC -- I've now been four times in the past two months. It is such a cute restaurant with a lovely ambiance that makes you feel at home. My favorite thing to order is their spicy pork dinner platter (I didn't care much for the bulgogi) and the banchan is delicious. I love the marinated seafood side dishes they have. The menu appears to rotate seasonally so I look forward to visiting again when they next switch things up. The last three times I went I walked in: got seated immediately around opening at lunch, waited for 1.5 hours after walking in at 5pm on a Wednesday, then waited only 15 minutes when walking in at 8pm on Friday! There's so much to do in the area though that I don't mind waiting on a waitlist if I can't snag a reservation. Kisa is worth it. The sides and soup were not an afterthought to the main, each were high quality and tasty. The spicy pork had a smoky flavor and the squid was tender. Each side dish/soup could be refilled up to three times, but the portions were so generous I could not eat more than what was given. Kisa has easily become one of my favorite restaurants from the past year. It's simple, delicious, and their service is always great. I also enjoy the atmosphere's modesty and charm. The concept of the Korean cab driver's eatery is maintained. It's a really basic menu. You can choose between sanchae bibimbap, spicy squid, spicy pork, or bulgogi as your main entree. An assortment of banchan (side dishes) is served with the meal. They do rotate the menu because the banchan has changed on the two occasions I've gone. Also included is a small bowl of warm and delicious beef and radish soup. The portion is sufficient for one person, and everything is simply great. There isn't much to be upset about at $32. For an additional $2 or so per banchan, you can also replenish the banchan of your choosing. I heartily recommend Kisa. The meal is excellent overall, and I adore how straightforward it is. If you can, I suggest making a reservation for dinner here. People always try to walk in, and it's usually busy. Kisa has a distinct lunch menu, which I haven't tried yet. A dining concept that was popularized in Seoul in the 80s by taxi drivers has made its way to NYC. I got to speak with one of the owners, David, who happened to serve us. There are pictures of the owners as kids on the wall. The decor is made to look what it was like back in the old days in Korea. Each person must order one platter with a choice of one main...bulgogi, spicy pork, bibimbap or spicy squid. No substitutions for the sides. But you can choose 3 extra sides at the end of your meal to replace some of the ones you finished. Here are the banchan side dishes: - Kimchi - Potato Jorim* - Soy Marinated Shrimp - Mung Bean Jelly Salad* - Roasted Seaweed - Sausage & Rice Cake Skewers* - Omelet Roll* The ones with an asterisk were our faves. You also get a tofu bean soup and a bowl of rice. The stew reminded me of what we had when we visited Seoul last year. My son and I loved it. It is such a fun and unique way of dining and everything tasted like it was homemade. Service is outstanding. David gave each of us a quarter for the drink machine. I got to try the Black Bean Latte (owner told me to try this one) and Hot Chocolate. Both yummy but that black bean latte was a real treat. Koreans just know how to serve amazing beverages. Lately, Kisa has been my go-to spot if I'm craving some classic Korean dishes without the headache of sorting through 50+ things on the menu. And while their menu is simple, their food is not -- everything is so hearty, flavorful, and reminds me of home! They recently started taking reservations so would recommend making one for dinner. For lunch, I've been able to walk in without a wait! Each order comes with an amazing selection of banchan that you can refill up to 3 times. There's only 4 options for dinner and 2 for lunch - for dinner, I prefer the pork and for lunch, both are my favorites! Would recommend coming here until you've tried them all, honestly. Some things to note - for dinner, after your meal, you're given quarters that you can use to get a nice hot cup of Korean coffee from their little machine in the front. They have a black bean latte that is TO DIE FOR. The other option is also a classic and a must-get if you've never had Korean instant coffee lattes. Unfortunately, they don't offer coffee during their lunch hours (but I'm hoping they will soon). Besides the food, service is impeccable. Everyone is super friendly and attentive - 10/10 hospitality! Delicious filling meal, love the variety! Tried the bulgogi, vegetarian bibimbap, and spicy squid. Favorite ban chan sides was the rice cake & sausage, omelettes, shrimp which was creamy & different. Also the Kim chi was so good & little spicy. a hearty meal including the complimentary puffed rice & soup along with rice. Then was given quarters to get a dessert drink, black bean - milk coffee - hot chocolate, very cute idea. Service was great, very attentive & they made sure my pescatarian friend wasn't given any meats. Just the wait is a bit long for me especially on a hot day. read more

Well worth the wait if you love Korean side dishes and Korean comfort food! I got the vegetarian bibimbap and my partner got the bulgogi, both of which were delicious and well seasoned. The gochujang sauce used for the bibimbap was unique and yummy. Their side dishes are seasonal and we had the soy sauce braised eggs, marinated shrimp, pancake, cucumbers, and many more delicious options. Even though I couldn't eat everything, it just meant more for my partner haha. You can also get up to three refills on a side dish which is great too! We did wait for 2 hours, so definitely expect to just put your name down and then go do something else. I think the wait is what would deter me from revisiting, it would be great if you could join a virtual waitlist. read more
