What a total gem. I showed up at 4:50pm on a Saturday and there was already a line around the block! By the time we got to the front door, there was a couple ahead of us and the host started to take phone #, saying that it's a 45 to 60 min wait for a table. We happily wandered across the street to a bar for happy hour, while we waited for our text. I opted for the spicy squid (YUM) and really loved all the banchan dishes. The soup that you get at the start of the meal is the real star, and I could have easily had a giant bowl of that for my entire meal (yes, it's that good). You are allowed refills of the side dishes, but we only did 1 round and I opted for the sushi rice roll that was dipped in the most incredible sauce. For our dessert, we chose the yogurt drink, which reminded me so much of Yakult, which I drank like water when I grew up in Asia. There's also a hot tea option that's 25 cents (next time!). The man taking reservations/seating/check ins felt really badly for my party that we had one missing person and he had to give our table away (note that it's first come first serve and you MUST have your entire party present to be seated). The side dishes are literally so much fun to try, and my friend who had come only a few weeks earlier said almost the side dishes we had yesterday were new. The melon and beef soup was so refreshing and light, and it reminded me a lot of wintermelon soup we have in Chinese food. You are also welcome to ask for refills of three items (pretty sure this doesn't include the protein). After you're done eating, they give you a quarter to put in their beverage machine for a small cup of black bean latte, hot chocolate, or coffee. Get the hot cocoa or latte! Both are so delicious. Probably the best Korean meal I've had in New York as a Korean American. It's also an incredible deal at $32. You get crispy rice as a starter, along with rice and doenjang stew. You get to choose from four mains (spicy squid, spicy pork, Bulgogi, or bibimbap), and a host of sides. They will refill your sides three times for free, so you can pick your three sides. I opted for three refills of the soy marinated shrimp, since that's a unique side you don't get often. We went on a Friday at 6 pm and the wait for 2.5 hours. We opted to go to a different bar for a happy hour while we waited and the wait went by fairly quickly. I will say the only qualm I have is that their soju menu starts at $40, which is 8 times more expensive than a normal bottle of soju in Korean. I've visited this place twice now, and I'd love to come more often. However, getting a reservation can be tough, and I'm not sure how long the wait is if I just walk in. The food is of great quality with a good variety, so you won't get bored if you return often (the main entrees stay the same, but the side dishes change).
