Pork belly and grits (with collard greens and pickled onions)
    Victoria C.

My fiance and I stumbled upon this food truck at the Magnuson Thursday Market. My fiance LOVES shrimp & grits, along with anything pork belly related. He immediately stopped and suggested we get something although we had already been to 3 other food trucks/eaten/was in the middle of eating some shaved ice. We decided on getting the pork belly and grits over the shrimp and grits because my future husband's love for pork belly might be more then his love for shrimp and grits. We added an over easy egg for $1 more. The food came out fairly quickly. We were going to try to wait till we got to the car where we could drop off some of our leftovers before digging in, but it smelled too good. The grits with the pork belly flavor and melted fat mixed in was AMAZING. There was a good amount of pork belly as well. The collard greens were really good and flavorful as well. It was literally one of those movie moments where you just take a bite of something with no expectations, your eyes widen as you realize how good something is and you just can't stop shoveling in food. My fiance tried it and ended up eating it the rest of the way home. The lady at the counter was super nice, although she made a face when she saw me eating my shaved ice, asking what it was. Let me enjoy my sugar water without judgement lady! The food did come out super quick, and I can't wait to come back to try the shrimp and grits.

I was between 3 and four stars with this place - 3 for flavor but 4 for having nothing wrong with the the service, cleanliness, speed, or packaging. I had the shrimp grits with bacon. The dish lacked oomph. The grits tasted they were only water and cornmeal. I think it was dairy-free since the flavor lacked the fullness associated with butter or milk fat. The shrimp were just okay - cooked the right amount but they were under seasoned. They were generous in the number of shrimp though. The bacon was great, but I couldn't tell if it was pre-made or if they made it. Aside from the underwhelming flavor, you get a fair portion for the price so it's a good value. Also a ton of dogs went up to me smelling the bacon, so that was an unintended perk that came with my order. The packaging was compostable (good on them, and one of the reasons I went with 4-stars overall). It did not leak. They remembered to give cutlery to eat with. The service was fast but still at a speed where you could tell it was made fresh. They provided 2 bottles of hand sanitizer. The service was cordial but okay. Overall the meal was okay, but given all the options at the farmers market they probably won't become a vendor I regularly visit.

Grits could use a little more flavor/love & portions could get a little bit bigger (or lower the price for the current portion) *dear yelp, we don't have time for long reviews, we just want to know if we'll get food poisoning or not.

Found this food truck driving around West Seattle enjoying the sunny weather. Masked up and ordered the shrimp and grits. OH MY! Amazing! The shrimp was cooked perfectly! The grits were creamy and the mushroom, bacon, topping added another level to the already well seasoned grits. A good size serving with a generous amount of shrimp. If you want to add more butter it comes with a pat you can add but it doesn't really need any. Started following them on Facebook so we can track where they are. This may be a new Saturday thing for us! Thank you!

I'm a fan of grits. I've never made them but I eat them a lot. By far, my favorite dish on the truck is the shrimp and grits. My shrimp has been perfectly cooked every single time I've ordered it. I do not like over- or underdone shrimp. The consistency here has blown me away every time. The key to the dish is getting a bite of everything - shrimp, bacon, mushrooms, and grits. The saltiness of the bacon, the earthiness of the mushrooms, the punch of the garlic, and the texture of the grits combined with the tender shrimp is enough to keep me coming back for more! When I'm not in the mood for shrimp (which is almost never), I get the pork belly served adobo style with collard greens. It has good balance and the collards have a hearty texture. The pickled onions add an unexpected twist to the dish. Recently, the truck switched to Adluh grits. They are very fluffy and pleasant to eat. Overall, service is always friendly and the food comes out faster than I would expect. I tend to see the truck at special events but they have a regular route during the week.

Probably the best shrimp and grits I've ever had! I was walking around the Fremont Sunday market just to get some sun, saw this truck and decided to try it out. I'm happy I decided on the shrimp and grits and got an egg on top as well. The pieces of bacon and the slices of mushroom added to the savoriness of the dish. The grits tasted good on their own, but all the components put together made it extra delicious.

I got the pork belly grits. I had grits that I really liked in SF and that was the last time. I had it about a year ago. I was at the food truck rodeo at the Fremont market. I didn't see anything else that sounded good to me, so I decided to get the pork belly grits. Overall I really enjoyed it, especially the pickled purple onions. They gave an okay amount of pork belly, but I feel like the price was kinda expensive for the size of the meal ($10 but I added an egg for $1).

Perfect timing if you want to beat the rush and take a look around before it fills up. The restaurant is located in Beacon Hill, right next to the Beacon Hill light rail station, which is super convenient if you're coming from downtown or the airport. No dedicated parking lot, so you're looking at street parking. The setup is counter service. You order and pay up front, then find a seat, and they bring the food out to you. It's a nice hybrid of quick-service convenience with the personal touch of table delivery. Just remember to bus your own table when you're done. They've also got a station set up for washing your hands and mixing your own dipping sauce, which I thought was a really thoughtful touch (if you grew up with Filipino food, you know). I went heavy on the sinamak (spiced vinegar). Seating is flexible. Counter seats if you're solo or just grabbing something quick, and regular tables that can accommodate four or more if you've got a bigger group. We ordered the bangus-silog, island combo, and cassava cake. Bangus-silog:Came with garlic rice, two eggs, and milkfish, and it hit exactly the way silog should. Yolks were slightly runny, rice had that good garlicky flavor, and the bangus was perfectly fried with head and tail. Island combo: Came with two lumpia, two inihaw ribs, pancit, white rice, two longanisa, and two butterfly shrimp. Great way to sample a bunch of things in one go if you can't decide. The lumpia was crispy and had a good amount of filling. The ribs were tender and had a nice char. The pancit had good noodle texture, and the longanisa had that slightly sweet, garlicky flavor you want. Nothing special about the butterfly shrimp. Also don't skip the baked goods section near the register. It's definitely worth a look on your way out. We tried a slice of cassava cake for dessert. Dense and not overly sweet. Good way to end the meal. Staff at the register were friendly and patient the whole time. They answered any questions about the menu. Overall, a solid and casual spot for Filipino comfort food. Will definitely be back. Kain tayo!

Our office gets a list of the weekly offerings on Monday, so when I heard that later in the week there would be Salu-Salo Filipino Kitchen, bringing Filipino food, I most definitely made lunch plans. I was coming in from a meeting in Fremont, so didn't go to the pop-up/Salu-Salo Filipino Kitchen as soon as it started service (around 11am). With that said, I nearly missed out on the chicken adobo! I took the last of the chicken adobo an hour and a half after the lunch service started, so was counting my blessings! I ordered the lunch plate, which came with chicken adobo, pancit, rice and pickled veggies. My lunch plate was solid. Chicken adobo was tender and really, really liked how vinegar-y the flavor was, which, any Filipino would tell you that all food tastes better with vinegar! Pancit wasn't bad, but not the best. Some of the noodles were on the dry side, but I did like the cabbage and green onion throughout. Pickled veggies were a nice addition, adding more sour flavor to the overall entree. For someone who hardly ever has Filipino food and desperately misses mom's cooking, I was just happy to have Salu-Salo bring some adobo to the area. I would definitely recommend checking out Salu-Salo if you ever see their stand around. They don't update their social media channels, unfortunately, so is a little difficult to find where their stand will be. And when I asked if they participate in any markets, they do not. But the owners did mention that they visit downtown Seattle often at other office buildings around. Therefore, I have a feeling I'll be seeing them soon and getting my Filipino cuisine on. For example, my favorite dish on the menu is the Laing Express, which is made with coconut milk, taro leaves, topped with a delicious crispy piece of pork belly. With a topping of pork belly, how could anything go wrong? This dish has an amazing earthy flavor, with a bit of a kick to it. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. How often to you get to eat purple desserts? Ube cake gets its color from purple yams! Salu-Salo's ube coconut topped ube cheesecake balls are not just adorable, they are addicting. Not overwhelmingly sweet, and perfect for sharing, these are a treat. For those with dietary restrictions, Salu-Salo is a great option because there are plenty choices. As someone who is gluten free, all of the main dishes are fair game. This is often very rare when dining out for me!! Here's to Salu-Salo for exposing Seattleites to what Filipino food is all about. Rosario's cuisine feels like a healthy take on comfort food. Each dish bursting with flavor, yet still accessible to all ages. The idea behind comfort food is all about the thought that goes into the prep. After tasting Salu-Salo's food, I promise you can tell a lot of care goes into the preparation of each dish. I am looking forward to this becoming a Seattle institution, and hope it inspires more Filipino cuisine to start popping up in the PNW.
