The Sunday in Emeryville has quickly become one of my favorite brunch spots in the East Bay. It's a contemporary Korean-American brunch spot that puts a creative spin on all the classics, and everything comes out looking almost too pretty to eat -- the plating is so aesthetic, especially the heart-shaped plates. Everything we had was phenomenal, but my favorites were the loco moco and the french toast. The loco moco was hearty and packed with flavor, and the french toast was perfectly fluffy. Don't skip the drinks either -- the mimosas were great, and they even have a soju flight, which was such a fun touch for brunch. The vibe is relaxed and welcoming, making it perfect for a family brunch, date brunch, or a weekend catch-up with friends. It was pretty packed when we went on a weekend, so I'd recommend going early or being prepared for a short wait -- but honestly, that's how you know it's worth it. read more

Girlfriends decided to brunch and we did it at The Sunday on a Friday at 11a. With separate dietary needs, we were each able to find something on the menu to satisfy our palettes. The Sunday was busy and packed, we were first on the waiting list. The first available table for us was inside. Tables are spacious, made of wood, identical to the bench seating. The service was friendly, patient, attentive and thorough - reciting each order back to us to ensure accuracy. We were even asked if we had food allergies they should be aware of - incredibly thoughtful. Our coffee ($4) and hibiscus tea were refilled without ask, the wait for food was minimal. I ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes ($15) with a side of eggs. Classic 2 Eggs ($18) comes with two eggs your way, English muffin or sour dough toast with home fries, rice or tater tots. We each really enjoyed our meals and conversation. Would we return, most certainly. Parking can be a pain depending on the time. It is street parking on a fairly frequented street. Yum, is the first thing that comes to mind. Second, we will be back. I'm giving it a 4.25 stars because we got a little irritated with one of the servers. We had waited about 20-30 mins for a table of 2. We went back inside and there were some tables inside that were wrapping up their meal, but we were called and were given a table outside. My husband asked if we could wait for a table inside and the server said the wait would've been too long. Mind you it was raining, even if there is a covered awning, it was rather cold. About 2 mins later, after we were sat at our table, another group who was not waiting as long as we had, was told they'd be seated inside, just to give them a minute to clean the table. My husband wasn't happy. It is what it is, the place is small and they were just trying to do their best to accommodate the waitlist. Aside from that, service was great. Very nice servers. Food was quick to come to the table and it was piping hot. From where my husband was sitting he could see the owner (he verified it from a server) working hard in the kitchen! Food is worth the price. I wouldn't say it's outrageous pricing, as it's what you would find at other similar restaurants. If you compare this restaurant to Kitchen Story, I believe it out ranks. I had the spicy chicken Benedict, and the only complaint I have is there were too many green onions. That was my fault because I should have asked for it without. I love that you could get breakfast potatoes or tater tots. I obviously got the tater tots, which I did not regret! So crisp and delish! I also ordered the croffle! Never let anyone tell you ice cream isn't for breakfast because this place proves them wrong. Ugh, delish! I didn't eat any of the fruit but my husband said it was really fresh. My husband ordered the Sunday Scrambler and finished the entire plate before I had even finished half of my plate. Pretty sure he liked it, lol. Their coffee was perfect and super hot! Came in for Sunday Brunch. I immediately started with the earl gray tea. I liked how the tea came with an infused lemon but it added too much sweetness for me as I like my tea with no sweetener. I ordered The Sunday Omelette Special and it was so good that I went home and took a nap. It put me in a coma. The truffle flavor didn't overpower the dish and all the veggies and protein were seasoned just right. My bf ordered the bulgolgi Benedict. The beef was tender and paired well with the Chipotle sauce. Service was nice. Since the place is kind of small, you can hear everyone's conversations, which makes it hard to talk with the person in front of you. Wow wow wow I think we found our spot. The Sunday is a small, stylish Korean fusion brunch spot with a heavy emphasis on flavor. The home fries are extremely delicious and that's all you really need to know. I got the Sunday omelette which was unique and delicious, packed full of shrimp and veggies. My wife got the friend chicken benedict. The chicken was exceptionally seasoned and was juicy through and through. We shared the lemon ricotta pancakes which were light and flavor full. We had a really nice brunch in Emeryville at The Sunday. It was a bit unexpected because the original place we looked up was closed, but it was perfection and we highly recommend it. We got there at opening so we were sat right away, but later on there was a bit of wait for new guests. The indoors is small, but super cozy, clean and cute. And all of the service was great. I was visiting from out of town and someone recommended this brunch spot, so my boyfriend and I decided to try it, and we are really glad we did. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, and the service kept up well with the brunch crowd. I ordered the fried French toast combo with turkey bacon and scrambled eggs. Been here twice for brunch. The loco moco is a great savory dish-ample gravy to rice/patty ratio. The little extras like the thin cuts of spam and furikake add nice texture touches as well. The croffle dough was delicious with its buttery notes. The chicken was perfectly fried as well. The custard like sauce was lightly sweet. Accompanying fruit was a bit minimal. The lemon ricotta pancakes were a bit lacking-would pass on these next time. Overall, the food is pretty solid-but portions are on the smaller side so you'll be content (probably no leftovers though). Stopped by The Sunday for a quick, last minute brunch and it was a pretty good meal. Luckily the restaurant wasn't super crowded and we were able to get seated right away. The restaurant is located on a quiet street, and it's quite cozy, with some seating indoors and outdoors. I will say the restaurant is small and seating can feel a bit cramped/tight, especially the 2 person tables. This was my 2nd time visiting and customer service was friendly and adequate. We had to flag down servers for extra napkins and etc., but they were prompt. Once you sit down, a server will provide a QR code that you can scan to view the menu. They will then stop by to ask if you want to order any drinks and take your actual order. My mom opted for the veggie eggs benedict with home fries. I ordered the chicken with croffle dish. Both dishes came out fairly quickly and I thought the presentation of the chicken & croffle dish was nice. The croffle was a good balance of crispy and soft, and they included both a maple syrup & spicy maple syrup on the side. The chicken was pretty tasty, it had some sort of breaded seasoning and seemed to be a good pairing with the croffle. I enjoyed my dish and nearly cleaned my plate, which was great. The veggie eggs benedict was good too, but my mom said it lacked salt and was thinking some avocado would've helped elevate the dish. We flagged down a server to request salt & pepper, & that helped. The home fries were tasty and crispy, and had a slight spicy kick. But I think ordering the tater tots would've been better. The cost for both dishes was just under $50, so I thought the pricing was a little high, but it was a filling meal with good size portions. Came here on a Friday morning and there was a crowd but we did not have to wait for seating. I will have to say this is not a very kid friendly place since they do not have high chairs for littler ones. They did have a booster seat but that wouldn't help much with a baby that needs extra support. There were two families with babies including ourselves and the other parent had to sit with his baby on his lap while eating. If you're a parent you know the struggle of trying to enjoy a meal with a baby in your lap. I kind of understand the no high chairs since the indoor area is really small but also if you can fit a chair you can fit a high chair. Even just one or two would make a difference. Really not a family friendly choice but maybe their main demographic isn't families. Service was good, our waiter was friendly and prompt and the manager checked in on our table. We got our food fairly quickly which was appreciated since our baby was getting really fussy. I ordered the regular loco moco and my partner ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes. The loco moco was flavorful and I liked the gravy. The eggs were cooked nicely but I wish the spam was crispier or maybe a more consistent texture since some were floppy and some were crispy. I also think the meat patty should be bigger given the amount of rice that is given. The lemon ricotta pancakes were just okay imo. What I really didn't like was that the fruit was not fresh at all.
