Had a table for four last night at this new restaurant in South Haven. Do not take reservations. Ordered drinks from the waiter, who was in a very bad mood. Told us he was a grouch because he "had to serve people". Yikes!! Cocktails were well made and tasty. Appetizers were served in a timely way. Recommend deviled eggs which are more like scotch eggs. Cannot recommend the calamari. Brought the entrees. Blackened snapper was so hard as to be uncuttable. Sent it back and then came out blackened but raw. Scallops were ordered by two people and came out with different sauces. Manager apologized and comped the meals but it was not a good experience. Need some practice meals to train staff better and for cooks to learn to cook. read more

Great food. Unique menu. The gnocchi with shrimp was a huge portion and delicious! Tons of large shrimp with perfectly cooked gnocchi in a delicious cream sauce. My hubby had the breakfast burger which had an egg and balcon on it. Juicy and flavorful and definitely not a thin frozen patty. Freshly ground for sure! Fries are seasoned and thin and crispy. They even offered my picky vegetarian daughter a selection of veggie burgers and hers was delicious!! We were so full but couldn't resist the raspberry white chocolate bread pudding with chambord raspberry sauce. OMG!! To die for!! Definitely not impressed with this restaurant. My daughter and husband both got sick after eating here. A burger we order medium well was served all pink, so pink it was falling apart! The salad bar had lettuce that was wilting/bad and the ingredients were messily displayed and not appealing in appearance. The best part about the meal was the rosemary fries and decent draught beer selection. But due to the food poisoning issue and my daughter throwing up all night I can't give this place any stars. read more

Not a very cosy place for a date as they have plain tables very close together. Oven roasted garlic was very good - recommended. Brook trout on special was excellent. Drinks (beer and a rusty nail) took forever to get. Blackened grouper on the standard menu was raw. Got a fresh fish which was hot and good on second try. Second order for drinks was very slow again. We we're comped a six layer chocolate cake for slow service, delayed drinks and raw fish. Bottom line is that we decided it was not special on any level to return. Appreciated the effort on behalf of the waitress and left her a good tip for the effort, which was not her fault for the most part. read more

I came here on a recommendation from my boyfriend's co-worker who grew up in South Haven. It was a cute little restaurant with a cozy feel but I was a little disappointed with the food. I ordered the thai chili wings and I was expecting them to be large pieces of chicken but they were mostly very small pieces with a lot of batter. The sauce itself was good. I also ordered sangria which was delicious. My boyfriend ordered the firehouse burger and was expecting it to be very spicy but it was not. Nonetheless he did enjoy it. The burger came with "shoestring"-type rosemary fries which were very good. My mom was also with us and she got the mac and cheese with a trip to the salad bar. The salad bar looked fresh but was just your typical salad bar. I tried her mac and cheese which I thought was good, very cheesy and the noodles were the perfect amount of al dente. Only suggestion in my opinion is it needed more breadcrumb topping. I would be willing to go there and try it again. read more

We came with 8 people of Lake Michigan ready to get some grub, this place was a shot in the dark from ratings on yelp, BUT WHAT A WINNER!! I personally had the Grouper Basket with Rosemary Fries(special). Now, I know not everyone likes shoestring fries but these, to me, where fantastic! Everyone at our table was very happy with their food. Burgers were a hit, Blackened Flank Steak, and the monster burger were ordered and devoured. Possibly the best food in South Haven. We loved the entrees and the appetizers, as well as the daily specials! The chicken was great, and the cheese was incredible. The only food we didn't like was the sweet potato quinoa patties. They had a strange curry on top that didn't quite fit. read more

This is by far the worst restaurant in South Haven. I sat there for over ten minutes before anyone even looked at me. The only reason I got waited on was because I waved my arm and asked for someone. There were more employees than customers. I ordered a salmon burger. Sorry out of the them. It's four thirty. Okay. I got calamari. We are all out of bread. The martinis are the worst. I ended up with French fries. Those are good. Holy cow. This place will be closed down very soon. No way can it make it the way it is. read more

The food was very flavorful, good tap list for cerveza, and the staff was super friendly. We shared the veggie soup as a starter, which was like a chili-spiced veggie and bean soup - very good! First visit here and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The roasted white fish, rice and veggies was superb. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I am always scared to order a Veggie burger because it is usually a frozen Gardenburger by Morningstar that they throw in the microwave and then on your plate but NOT at this restaurant. The Veggie burger was actually made from scratch. It was EXCELLENT! My husband had the Blackened Red Snapper and Mussels and REALLY enjoyed his meal. We both had the salad bar which had "different" than usual toppings like marinated artichoke hearts. This experience was very mixed for my party. My son had the sliders and truly thought they were excellent. I had the beet/chickpea patty which also was good. It went down hill from there. The salad bar was good but the price point was high for 1 visit and had minimal veggies (7 bucks). The Cola Turkey Sandwich was marinated in cola and chunks of turkey breast (not sliced) and the flavors did not work. The grilled cheese was cold pimento (think spreadable) and was not salvageable (my mother-in-law never says she hates something). The kids mac and cheese has fresh cracked pepper (tasted great to me but my 5 year old was not interested given the crunchy heat). The biggest issue was with the manager who proceeded to explain why I was wrong when I brought up my concerns. The chef was much more appropriate but too little too late from the manager. It is tough to take a place seriously if the manager takes offense to the least bit of criticism. read more

We stopped here on the way from Holland to Chicago and it was nice that it wasn't far from the highway. Nestled on a nice little downtown, we found parking behind the restaurant. We had the cheese curds then the Breakfast Burger and the Handyman Burger. Everything was delicious. They had a decent sized craft beer selection too. We had the special edition Dragons Milk, which was better than the original. Everything arrived quickly and our server Chris was very prompt and attentive. Our new favorite place to eat. The head chef overheard us at a wine tasting, lamenting where we were going to eat that evening because our daughter had picked a restaurant we do not care for because she wanted ribs. Although not on the menu he offered to make a rack just for her. We went that evening and were not disappointed. They were the best ribs she ever had. All of the food was delicious and well prepared. We have been waiting for Kitchen 527 to open! We came for lunch we're greeted right away and they immediately took our drink orders. Very nice decor much more modern and fun than you would think from the outside. I would suggest they do something on the windows to show that it's a upscale bar grill vibe inside. Maybe put a table or two by the windows as it's South Haven everyone likes to look out at the street and you have a view of the beautiful and always busy park, ice skating now and farmers market in the season. Beautiful job decorating, love the bar seating that also extends to overlooking the chefs kitchen. I had the Chicken wings that are soaked in brine and smoked, they were delicious! I added a side of mac and cheese, very good and generous portion. My husband had the Cola Turkey sandwich that he raved about and the rosemary fries, which I was pleasantly surprised I liked a lot. I usually hate seasoning on my fries. I asked him to order the coleslaw for us to share, really wanted to love it, it was made with purple cabbage loved that and corn good with that also and I loved the dressing just right combo of slightly sweet and savory. Here comes the bad part the coleslaw had a bitter taste that came from ? so sad really had high hopes since everything else was great. Maybe others will love the slaw, let me know if I'm a bad judge. My family went here on vacation for my daughter's birthday, and we were very satisfied! We sat at the counter and watched the staff prepare all the patrons meals. Let me tell you, those employees work efficiently and very well together. Like a well oiled machine! The food was so delicious, and I have kids with picky palettes. Had an amazing meal! Cheese curds were some of the best I've had! I chose to have the mussels as my entree and they were cooked perfect and had tons of flavor! What kind of "chef" refers to a new server as a "stupid f***" just because they ask the bartender a question to make sure they are doing something correctly on their first day??? The burger was cooked as requested. Prices are very high - $52 before tip for 2 burgers w/ fries, etouffee and 2 nonalcoholic drinks. Unfortunately the experience at 527 far from met our expectations. We are a big fan of Julia's so was hoping for a positive experience based upon that and the yelp rating. Unfortunately our kids orders (1 of them being a flank steak) was not put in by our waitress. So my husband and I were served first. We offered to share our food with the kiddos but they were really looking forward to their meals. We tried to wait but then our food would have been cold. As we finished their food came out. We also got the salad bar but had to wait about 10 minutes for the lettuce to refill and then another 5-10 for the dressing to be refilled. My husband ordered a gluten free burger and they forgot the gluten free bun so again waited on this correction. To top it off the bathrooms were out of toilet paper and paper towels. I would understand if there was one or two issues but the whole evening continuously missed the mark and the bill was far from small. We will not be back. read more

We sat at the bar. The kitchen in open so watching the chef prepare each item was awesome. Not only did we have front row seats, but the chef placed dishes in front of us the entire evening. We shared everything with a couple sitting at the bar, talk about a cool concept, great food, meeting new people and a laid back atmosphere, this is what a night out should be like. If I could give this place 0 starts I would. We came in for dinner with a group of 10, so they sat us at two tables which was totally fine with us! We ordered dinner, drinks, and were having a great experience... then the food for two of the people at our table came, and the rest of us waited... and waited... and waited. The waitress said that the kitchen works on a couple of plates at a time so they "don't get overwhelmed"... so we were understanding due to short staff during covid. Our food came, finally, and it was mediocre. We ordered more drinks, which took forever to come. And then we asked for our checks. As soon as we signed, one of the employees (maybe a manager ?) came and asked us to leave. He said he needed to clear the table and be able to seat other people... we had full drinks that we had ordered just before getting our checks and we had spent well over $1300 at this place... so we were annoyed but proceeded to finish our drinks and were gathering our items (we had two newborn babies with us) when the bartender came over and threatened to call the police on us!!! Stunned, we proceeded to ask why the police were being called on us to which he responded that we were overstaying our welcome! We pointed out that our food had taken more than an hour to come out, and that we were never told there was a 90 minute time limit and had spent a ton of money. So after we got our items, we were leaving and guess what... no one was waiting in line to be seated. These people were SO RUDE and threatened our group with the police being called... the bartender was extremely hostile and I could not believe that he was speaking to us the way he was. Especially when we had two new moms with little babies trying to hustle and he was still threatening the cops, just unreal. And we were only there for maybe 2 hours. When you're waiting on your food for over an hour this just seems so crazy to me. Don't support this place. read more
