Do read - a little long - but no where near what I have experienced. I went into this contract putting my trust in "Kitchen Experts" that they would live up to what was being sold. I wish I hadn't. I cannot recommend them as the promise of completing my project in three weeks plus permitting was not upheld. My contract was signed waaay back in March of 2015, and it is still not complete! 10 months now into the remodel!!! For beginners, my project started a month late. The component of the installation that then created the second delay was the recessing of a ceiling beam. The installer thought he knew better than the Architect and did not follow the plan. He then proceeded to try and get the Architect to change the plan!! He had to re-do the install to meet the plan and get the City's approval / permit signed. During this delay, I started looking at the cabinet install - they originally told me to stay out of the kitchen space - that should have been a BIG RED FLAG! I started finding issues all over the place - so actually, had the installer done the beam correctly - I wouldn't have started uncovering all the issues and total lack of detail associated with the cabinet installs until it was too late. Nails & screws protruding in multiple places, terrible molding install/mounting, gaps in cabinets that could not be corrected, wrong cabinets installed in two areas (are supposed to glass - they were not - and it's still not done!), sawing through stucco all the way into the living room wall, using nails & screws that were too long ... I could go on & on ... I have pictures that were taken by a professional as proof. So then the 2nd round "re-start" began which started with the majority of the cabinets being replaced due to the poor initial install. Johnny told me he would personally oversee the project ... well, that's NOT happening. This restart began back in Sept 2015. The PM keeps telling me the project will be complete "next week" ... there have been many emails telling me this ... and the project is still NOT DONE!! I am now being lied to repeatedly with excuses of the molding - the cabinets - whatever - is not ready ... when did my project start??? These are not new deliverables or changes to the original agreement! I am so disgusted with the overall performance and am ready to have my lawyer (yes - went and got a construction lawyer) submit the case complaint to the California Contractors State License Board. So sad & pathetic that things have gotten this far ... regardless of the fact that I started out really patient, overly understanding and courteous. I have worked in good faith and way over being fair only to be treated with utter disrespect. Kitchen Experts should be ashamed of themselves. I'm disgusted and beside myself - I cannot move my things back into the kitchen and my home life is in utter disarray because of this. I continue to incur costs $$$$$ to store my kitchen things. Do not trust what is being advertised on TV - those people probably did not 'look under the hood' - I suspect if they did they would find issues and be utterly disappointed. I was initially really excited - and expected Kitchen Experts to be just that - experts. Do know that the majority of people that come on-site are professional and courteous. The floors, painting, and second cabinet crew are really good. I believe the overall problem is over selling what the company can execute to leading to projects being utterly mismanaged with no oversight, no organization, and a total lack of respect towards getting projects completed. What is being sold - is not what is being delivered. I do not recommend this company. If you choose to go forward with them anyway, make sure you have $$ penalties written into your contract for breach of timeline. I agree with Doug C's review. They score 0 out of 10 for the following: - customer service (overall) - product knowledge - cleanliness - follow through - follow up - project management - communication So sad, so disappointed, feeling utterly disrespected, project is utterly neglected, and Kitchen Experts really does not care. I personally can't believe the negative comments.. Only because I used John Lupo and his company Kitchen Experts of California to install a new kitchen that was really out dated. It needed help bad it was more then 26 years old.. John had come up with some ideas that would make my kitchen look larger as well as bringing in more natural sunlight. This made my wife very happy and we agreed on having John and his crew do their thing. About 10 days later they started and my kitchen was demolished in a matter of a 2 days. They worked with me on containing all of the dust to the work space as my son has asthma. They made sure they cleaned up their mess daily. I was so impressed with John and his crew I made sure we supplied these guys with lunch and soda as a way of saying thank you. As promised they worked until December 23rd until 8:30 at night knowing I needed the kitchen done before Christmas. Saul was the foreman of the group and he made sure everything was done right. After being in the kitchen a few days we noticed a couple of very minor touch ups that needed to be done. With out any hesitation Saul and his guys were back making sure that my wife and I are more then happy. The reason I called John Lupo and his company was simple. A good friend of mine has had his kitchens done on all 3 of his places by John and his company. After seeing the work they have done I was completely sold. All 3 of my freinds homes are very different but gorgeous. I couldn't be more impressed with the level of professionalism and detail of their work . I would use them again in a heart beat! read more

Kitchen Experts delivered everything they promised-design beauty, completion of project within the time frame and affordability. I needed help in the design of my kitchen and the owner of the company, John Lupo made appropriate recommendations, but let me choose the final design. The attention to detail was fabulous! I was very pleased with the richness of the color of the real wood cabinents with Dental Crown molding and one cabinet with etched glass doors. I chose the bins over drawers and love the space. My spice rack cabinent is a great addition. The flooring matches beautifully with the cherry cabinents. My granite counters are the ultimate beauty with a gorgeous backsplash (with mathing granite accents).They added canned lights, a gooseneck faucet and real baseboard to the entire area. They opened a wall and decorated the support beam. The kitchen not only added value to my house, but changed the entire look of the area adjoined to my living room and dining room. I am very happy with the quality of work and the professionalism of the workers. They were courteous, cleaned up on every project and worked very hard. I highly recommend this company for home remodelling. All my neighbors were also impressed with the speed and quality of the work. I had done some comparison shopping and I don't feel anyone comes close to the quality and price of The Kitchen Experts of CA. read more

After waiting 17 years for a new kitchen, we now have the kitchen of our dreams thanks to Designer Johnny Gonzalves and the Kitchen Experts team. Our new kitchen is everything we hoped for and more. The design, functionality, efficiency and comfort of our space makes us fill like we're in a new house! Not only are we completely happy with our kitchen, we're happy with the experience of working with professionals that we enjoyed, respected and trusted to do the job that they said they were going to do. They were timely, great communicators, great craftsmen, great contractors, highly skilled, excellent at follow-up/follow-through and they CARED about our project and opinions. This project was one of our best experiences ever. I'm glad I read these reviews before deciding to use them for my kitchen. I called them while watching DIY when I heard 30% off and a free designer. Dean came last night and I thought he was a used car salesman. All he told me was that is was going to cost 30-35k, played with a calculator for 5 minutes and couldn't get out of the house fast enough. Our kitchen is very small 8'x 12' and I asked about the 30% off and he said our job would normally cost 50k, I wanted to throw him out of my house right then. What a joke as soon as he walked out the door I told my there is no way I would ever use them. read more

This is a follow-up. In addition to many problems and frustration with the kitchen remodel, the expensive Bosch dishwasher leaves dishes dirty. I have been told that it's not the fault of the dishwasher, but how it was installed. The floor is not level, so the water does not reach the upper rack, and sometimes even dishes on the lower rack are left dirty. I would call "Kitchen Experts" and complain, but they are so unresponsive, and the level of craftsmanship is so poor, that I will find another contractor to fix the problem. My wife and I were thinking about remodeling and updating our kitchen. I went out and got bids from various cabinet, tile, granite and other subcontractors to get an idea of what it would cost to remodel the kitchen. After seeing Kitchen Experts that promised 30% off for responding to their add on TV my wife and agreed to call them to get a quote. In September 2012, they sent their "kitchen designer" out. He brought his I Pad measured the kitchen and gave us some good ideas. He put together their "special package price" and quoted a full turnkey price for refacing in Cherry. The price was about $6,000 more than I had got from various subcontractors, which was worth it because we would have to deal with all of the hassles of trying to be the general contractor ourselves. We signed the 12 page itemized contract, gave them the 1,000 deposit to hold the price and all agreed to start in the beginning of 2013. We didn't want to have the kitchen torn up during the holidays. In January 2013 we made an appointment and visited their show room in Pleasanton, CA. We sat down and ironed out the sink model, faucet, tile back splash and open items. The sales guy persuaded us to go with custom cabinets for about $7,000 more. We had both the kitchen designer and the project manager come back out and re-measure and produce a computer generated so called blue print. The blue print was a joke and had all of the dimensions in inches. They revised the previous contract to the upgrade of custom Cherry cabinets as well as the price. We then signed this new contact which superseded the previous contract and gave them 40% ($13,000) more on February 22, 2013 with a tentative start date of April 1st. Well the joke was on us. We got the infamous call from the owner, John Lupo, who called demanded to talk to me. My wife had been coordinating everything and was taken aback by his demand to talk to me. He caught me off guard and opened the conversation with "we will refund your money". I asked him to explain and he said that many of the items on the quote were not supposed to be in the "special package" and that they also mis-measured. I told him that we had a legally binding contact, but I listened to him and understood the miss-measurement and how Experts at Kitchen Experts could have made such a mistake. We went back and forth on concessions and I told him that I would think about it. After doing some more research and talking to lots of people about them I found out that this is a common practice. It's called bait and switch. It is an illegal practice. I emailed them my displeasure and that we would NOT release them out of the contract. I also asked that all correspondence be in email or in writing, which to avoid litigation they refused to do and continued to conduct everything via phone with false promises and continuously changing answers. They sent us an addendum. I spoke to more people who advised me to seek the refund that they promised, which we emailed them. Our feeling was that if we were having issues before the kitchen was torn apart, who's to say they would not come to us in the middle and demand more money and they we would have NO option but to fall into their scam as no contractor wants to take over another contractor's project mid-stream. They in turn told us that we needed to sign a release of liability to receive our refund. Interesting... They sent it to us in Word format, which stated that we would not sue them for breach of contact. Without their knowledge we altered some of the verbiage and left out the part that they were not responsible for cancelling the contract signed it and faxed it back. So now we want to warn others about their practices. We eventually received the refund of the $14,000 that we paid them and were able to find better quality cabinets, granite and accessories for much less than the price they claimed that they were losing money on. In my business if you misquote something and its close, you eat it and are more careful next time. You don't call people up and admit you can't honor a contract. If you want to deal with a scammer to remodel your kitchen then by all means call Kitchen Experts. They will not honor any price they quote you and will find some way to ask for more. There are plenty of good and honest contactors out there that will do very good quality work at a good price. They can advertise all they want, but you can't hide a wolf in sheep's clothing and anyone who touts themselves as "Good Christians" are usually NOT. Stay as far away from Kitchen Experts as you can. read more

I would rather call them Kitchen Nightmares. After seeing them on the Malou review, we thought that they would serve our needs. We were wrong, even from the very start with the slimy designer/salesman who had greased up hair and huge gold watch, using high pressure sales tactics. We were not allowed even a day to think about it after we got his estimate. He waited in our driveway 10 minutes for us to decide so we could get the special price. The salesman walked away with a check deposit that same night. After demo started and our kitchen was half torn apart, we were told that the designer/salesman had made a mistake in measuring the floor and it would cost twice as much. We were shocked. So much for the discount in mentioning "Malou Review" and our "today only" special quote by the salesman. We questioned how could a "Kitchen Expert" not be able to measure a floor correctly? We told them that we thought once an estimate is provided, a contractor is not suppose to increase the estimate. Since they already received our non-refundable deposit and first installment payment and our kitchen was half torn apart, we wanted to talk it out with John Lupo. However, Mr. Lupo never returned our calls for weeks. Finally, we filed a report with the Better Business Bureau, and immediately, we received a call from Mr. Lupo. He was angry that we reported him to BBB and threatened to completely stop work on the kitchen. He had no empathy or understanding. After he was calmed down, he agreed to continue work if we paid the extra money. Since we were in a position of losing the thousands of dollars we already paid and with a half demolished kitchen, we agreed to pay the extra money. Don't walk--run from these thieves. If you read other reviews on Yelp, you will see this is common practice by John Lupo's company. Malou, you should be ashamed of having them on your show! read more

I had my kitchen done by Kitchen Experts in 2010 and I am totally satisfied. I created the design and they agreed to it. I had my cabinets refaced to save some money, lower cabinets replaced with drawers makes it soooo much easier to take things out as they don't get buried behind other things, soft close drawers, new hardwood (not real kind) floors, large island with built ins and electricity. Everything went smoothly and I think the whole remodel took about 5 weeks only b/c I took a long time to choose a backsplash, so I was the hold up. I did a lot of running around choosing stuff but that was my choice, I'm picky and take a while to make up my mind. As far as price, I only had one other estimate from a smaller company and it was high. They do have a high pressure consultation which is probably bs but I'm glad I went with them. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 b/c of price. read more

RUN AWAY FROM KITCHEN EXPERTS OF CALIFORNIA, Pleasanton, CA They made so many mistakes I lost count. The most serious were cabinets installed in the kitchen were nailed through the walls so we had 10+ nails poking out of the other side of the wall on the living room side and on the entry hall side. The kitchen drain/pipes/disposal were "improperly installed" per a real, licensed plumber, so we're having a plumber reset all those pipes & drains at a cost of $600. The tile cutter set up on the front walkway and left trash on the neighbor's driveway, our junipers in the front yard, and at the curb. We should have known because right from the start, the salesman was very, very unprofessional. We agreed on a change order to the contract but he threatened to dump the cabinets on our driveway if he couldn't write it up his way. Finally, the TV ad says call and get 10% off - that never happened. Salesman just said "Oh, it's figured in already". We never saw a discount, or got a discount, and the TV ad just suckers people in. The TV ad said they don't use subcontractors but every one that worked on our $40,000 project was a subcontractor. Some tried to do both electrical and plumbing and we doubt they were licensed. It was a nightmare. We are pursuing them for damages and filing complaints with the Contractor Board and Consumer agencies. Diamond Certified already dropped them. read more

We hired the Kitchen Experts to do a complete kitchen remodel in August 2011, followed by a hall bath remodel. Being new to a house remodel, they seemed great until now. The sales guy was pretty good but WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. I cannot stress enough how bad the experience has been with follow up. All of our kitchen cabinets have gliding issues and I have called the Kitchen Experts no less then 6 times in the past month, leaving VM's with their customer service department. and even verbal messages with receptionist. After 5 weeks of not returning my calls, I even called the owner of the company with no luck. Finally I got a return call by service and they scheduled a service call, saying that we would have to pay for all new gliders on our cabinets but they would fix them (the cabinets are less then 2 years old). I scheduled the appointment and the service guy DIDN'T EVEN SHOW UP OR CALL! I sat here for 3 hours waiting. On top of the bad service, we now have a real contracting company in here fixing everything and they have commented on how cheap all the materials are that the Kitchen Experts used. The gliders are all broken (a brand never heard of), the installation materials of the pendant lights are of poor quality and have been replaced and the paint is peeling off the walls because they didn't use a primer. I do not recommend using these guys, despite how great the sales guy was. The service is horrible!! read more

I have never written a review about a company but after reading some of the bad reviews I had to write about my experience with Kitchen Experts. I love them. Yes price was comparable to most, however the experience was priceless. When they say kitchen done in 3 weeks, they mean it. I was always afraid to remodel my kitchen because I heard horror stories of remodels taking 8-10 weeks. I did not want to be without a kitchen for that long. KE pulled all building permits, stood by their quote and they don't sub-contract. I had the same crew on my project everyday. You go to their showroom to choose granite, backsplash, cabinets, etc. It was so easy and convenient. It's been a year since my kitchen was completed. I love it everyday. read more

We had our kitchen done with Kitchen Experts a few years ago and were very happy at the time. For the past 6 months I have had cabinets actually falling off the hinges and draws that the tracks are breaking on. I have called a minimum of 6 times in the past few weeks to request a service appointment and they keep telling me they have to check to see if it's covered under warranty. I keep telling them that I don't care if it's on warranty or not that I need it fixed. Still no response. I am feeling like they want nothing to do with me once I paid my final balance and am very disappointed that they have such poor follow up once the job is done. read more

After seeing the commercial on TV and recommendations from neighbors We decided to sing a contract with Kitchen Experts of California hopping to have our place finish in five weeks at the latest since we where promised to have it done in three to four weeks at the latest. It's being five months and a half and our place is not finish. We tried calling the project manager , the sales rep and no body will return our calls. We even tried to call from other phones to be able to talk to them and as soon they find out that is us the sales rep and the project manager will hang up on us. Cant even talk to them to have them finish the job. They also promise they will pick up all the garbage every day and no dust will get to rest of your house. Good luck on that. read more

I'm very disappointed at my self more than not really having gotten to the point of signing anything with Kitchen Experts. A week ago today one of their representatives came to my house to speak with me about my plans to remodel my kitchen in my condo that I bought last year. This is my first time taking on a remodel project which I have been excited about and I only reached out to them after seeing their commercials on TV for nearly 1 year. So I thought okay, give them a call and set up an appointment to meet with a consultant. He arrived on ti me as scheduled April 1st at 630. I already had my idea of what I wanted which I showed him on my tablet and friends have helped me too by sending me kitchen ideas from Pinterest etc. He was very good at the measurements and at providing suggestions even though they were in conflict with what I wanted but I listened. The CAD design that he worked on at my place came together rather quickly. my kitchen is very small so no surprise there. As we wrapped things up. I asked if he had a ballpark figure for what it might costs me and he said easily $20,000 to start. Now keep in mind, I can barely lay down and stretch in my current kitchen space as it is hardly 7 feet long and might only b 6 feet wide. No walls are being moved etc. The sink is going to be shifted to the right by 3 feet. I had a neighbor come by whom has just remodeled his so that he could answer a plumbing question for us since his remodel was finished 2 months ago. The fact that the plumbing is in the cabinet wall and concrete floor he says would be $3,500. Then another $2,000 for circuit breaker upgrades for appliances. I have electric now but will convert to gas since my fireplace and heat are both gas and I've seen other remodeled units that have sold in the complex and were also converted to gas. The stove in my design on my tablet has a Wolf Stove which I may not have gone with but the ones that he showed me were just as expensive and brands that I'm not familiar with but are also obviously ones that they're must have distribution partnerships. After our consultation ended. He said that I would hear from him the next day and receive a full quote and the design he'd done on his laptop in my dining room. Today is April 8th and I have not received any information nor phone calls from him. Another KEC person called me a couple of days ago to invite me to their location in Pleasanton on Saturday, April 9th at 10. I was reluctant to agree to drive all that distance from San Francisco but decided that I would agree to come. This morning, still no word from the Designer but the other contact called this morning as I was driving to work to tell me that the Designer had to cancel tomorrow because he is ill. So I wanted him to know that I have not heard from Bryce since we met a week ago nor have I received any quotes/bids, designs etc. So if after a week of meeting with him and still nothing. What could I expect down the road after signing on with them. Now that I had the thought to look them up online to see reviews. I am disappointed that I did not do this first. Maybe they do good work and maybe they don't. I can't say for sure but I told the guy today that I have decided not to use them for the reason mentioned here. Live and learn right. read more

Had the worst experience with these people. Salesman says 'sure we can do that'; foreman on job says 'we can't do that'. Foreman was condescending and rude, was rarely here to oversee work, was never on time, then expected me to be available when he showed up. They did not incorporate a change to the original design in bench - cut it down on site, top bubbled and peeled within days. The backsplash had to be redone FOUR times and I am left with a cracked tile in it. The space between the cupboards and the trim has such gaps in it that you could see the under cabinet lights through it. There were also gaps between the top of the cupboards and the ceiling. At one point a worker trashed my new floor because he didn't bother to cover it. They accused me of switching refrigerators when their trim didn't fit. I complained so much that the owner came out to meet with me and said they would make everything right by end of week and that foreman would be on site to supervise. Foreman showed u late (after I called) and left early on the pretense that he needed to pick up some parts - parts were here and he never return. It was during his absence that his worker installed my bathroom tile as accent pieces in my kitchen instead of the kitchen counter material. Oh, by the way, the worker redoing the backsplash for the fourth time with the wrong accent pieces seemed tone training a young man (on my job) that did all the work. Really!?! I called the project manager to complain and never heard back from her. Today, a week later, I get an email from the salesman with a picture of what my hood was suppose to look like (that foreman said couldn't be done). I told them I don't want them back in my house. Don't let them near yours! I only gave one star because it wouldn't let me give none. read more

I don't understand the algorithm that Yelp uses, but you keep filtering out the reviews I leave for this company. It only keeps my reviews for the restaurants, grocery stores, auto repair places etc. on-line and keeps dumping my reviews of this company. Why is that? I had Kitchen Experts over again this week, after a delay of over 1 year on my part. John Lupo, the owner, came over himself and brought his contractor to look at the structural needs of the project (turned out to be too complicated to remove a wall) and he brought over the guy that does the 3D rendering of the designs. Within an hour and a half they had blueprints done and said "We can start on the 27th and be done in 3 weeks." The project includes all new cabinets (54 linear feet), new floor, granite island and countertops, removal of a 1990's style dropped ceiling, installing new LED recessed lighting, repainting walls and texturing ceiling, new sink, backsplash etc. They did the kitchen of my neighbor that was almost double the scope in just over 3 weeks, so I don't doubt they can meet the deadline. My wife and I are currently in the middle of a remodel with KE, the lack of communication is troubling. We were told this job would take 4 weeks, we are now going on week 5 with incomplete cabinets installed with no granite, exposed electrical wires and unfinished sheetrock. Our Project Manager Sarai informed us the Friday prior to our demo that we would receive weekly reports on Friday for the following week. We received the initial weekly report, though we never received the following week report or there after, we had to contact Sarai numerous times in order to get a schedule that was for 2 weeks out. We were informed the granite would take 1 week for prep then the following week we would have it installed, it's been 2 weeks now - no movement from anyone from KE. When we finally reached Sarai, she informed us the schedule was backed up and the installation of granite was delayed. The schedule we received indicated we would have granite installed on 11/14; then the granite guy called us over the weekend and came to our residence to reconfirm measurements and he confirmed he was NOT installing granite until Tue 11/15 or Wed 11/16. Clearly our project manager is not communicating with her own internal staff. This is an example of the lack of communication we have been dealing with and experiencing. hey John Lupo give us a call, we'd like to speak with you directly as we are not happy customers and your promotion video is misleading to the reality of this project. read more

Kitchen Experts lacks professional integrity and engages in unethical business practices. Their director of sales/senior design consultant prepared a kitchen design and detailed contract, which we both signed for a set price. Their contractor subsequently visited a week later and informed us that the kitchen remodel would cost SIGNIFICANTLY more than the contract price because the sales director had failed to account for certain costs associated with plumbing for a second sink, venting distance, and higher permit cost in our city even though all these items were explicitly covered in the contract price. The sales director admittedly made errors. Because we are reasonable people, and the sales director seemed like a nice guy, we agreed to change our kitchen layout, forgo the second sink, and relocate the range to eliminate the venting distance. We met them more than halfway despite the fact that they made all the errors. Incredulously, they also wanted us to pay for the permit, which the contract explicitly stated that they would cover. KE took no responsibility for their errors and failed to honor the original contract. This is a classic bait and switch. In the end, we moved ahead with Cima Custom Cabinets and Post & Lintel Construction Co. for our kitchen remodel, which a friend had highly recommended. For us, it was the total breach of trust and confidence by KE and less about the money; they offered their service for a price they set, which we accepted with no negotiation, and both parties signed the contract. A week later, they wanted us to pay significantly more. We were willing to cover more than half of it, but they wanted us to cover it all - basically, their incompetence in assessing a true price for a kitchen remodel. I am sharing our unfortunate experience so that other homeowners can make a fully informed decision when considering KE. read more

After watching many commercials on KRON regarding Kitchen Experts Of California we decided to give them a call. We called their main offices in Pleasanton as we wanted to come out and see their showroom and what it had to offer. After arriving, we were greeted by what seemed to be a very novice receptionist, Rachel, and was told that there was no one available to show us their showroom. She said that we could look around but would not have anyone to help us. We did observe a few office workers but none of them seemed friendly or helpful. It seemed odd that there wer no salespeople or designers in house and no one seemed to know what was going on. We were shown into what appeared to be a run down warehouse complete with dirty walls and smelled of rubish. The kitchen displays they had were older, dirty and very dated. Not what we had expected from what the gentleman from the television ads promised. I did notice that there was rotten food in the fridge in one of the showrooms and garbarge on the counters.
