Our bachelorette party stopped here for lunch after our spa services. Upon arrival, we were greeted by one of the servers who asked how many people were in the party. We said ten and they seem somewhat bothered by this. Keep in mind there was no one there except the table on their way out. They sat us on the far right side. There were three of us who got there first and we ordered drinks almost immediately. It too approximately 10 minutes or more for our drinks to arrive. The bar service was absolutely pathetic. The fact that it took SO long for drinks anytime was ridiculous. There was seriously no one there. I would be more understanding if the place was busy and we were ordering insane drinks, BUT that was not the case. Our server was nice and was extremely efficient. She was able to answer any questions and quick to refill waters, etc. I thought the food menu was a good mix of things and their cocktail/drink list was good. I know it's a "resort" but the prices were a bit steep. The food came out hot and I enjoyed my ciabatta sandwich. However, I noticed I didn't get coleslaw with mine but the other person who ordered the same thing did. I loved the Parmesan truffle fries. The dipping sauce was okay. But they told us we arrived at restaurant in breakfast-lunch break time, so we couldn't get any food from them! Last day in the resort, after spa we were all tired and chose to give it another shot. The same thing unbelievably happened again ! Another host was talking on the phone and ignoring us standing in front of her!!! After waiting for a while, we were all seated and ordered food with drinks. Drinks came fast and was delicious. After sitting on the table for 20 mins, we had to ask the waitress for food again. 2 stars for the food and drinks. 0 star for the service there! THIS ESTABLISHMENT SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN - AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS- You will be sorry if you don't listen! What an abysmal experience dining at Kites. My instincts within the first half hour were to leave but given I was in the great company of my best friends, it made more sense to hope for the best and stick it out. For starters, the waitress came up to us and said their credit card machines were down and we'd have to pay cash and use the ATM in the hotel. It was a bit abrupt and alarming the way she said it as if this was our problem and not her problem to deal with. The waitress was seemingly stressed out, as were all the surrounding tables. And it took 1 hour and 7 minutes to get a round of drinks. The confusing part was we had a view of the bar from our table and not once did it look busy enough to warrant this wait. If anything I questioned if the waitress was so inept she forgot to put the order in on time. I spoke kindly to the hostess during this wait and she was apologetic and said she'd get the manager. We noticed the manager during this wait who was sleezing his way around the restaurant, chatting it up with tables and totally unaware of his angry dining room, nor rolling up his sleeves to help his staff. Once the drinks arrived, my cosmo was sub par and I couldn't even finish it. Bartender clearly had no ability and I heard the table next to us sending back their drinks saying they were disgusting. After that, our food eventually made its way, and was palatable although not worth the extreme prices. We were also so hungry after waiting for hours that we were willing to eat almost anything at this point. Then we ordered dessert to surprise our friends whose bday it was and waited 20 minutes for the waitress to come back and say they didn't have chocolate cake. So now we ordered another dessert, another 20 min and now at this point the waitress hasn't come back to tell us that she doesn't have that either. At this point we've been here almost 3 hours, most patrons were gone, our friend was legit sleeping at the table (it was almost 11pm!) and we finally got a manager. He came over apologetically said he was taking off all the drinks and 30 percent of the check. The kicker is when I got the check, not only did he not take off the drinks or discount the food but the chocolate cake that never showed up was on it! We finally got him to take off some drinks, discount some food, and we were told the credit card machine was working again. Once we charged the card he said it couldn't print a receipt. Finally we left angry but at least feeling like we had gotten the proper compensation for this horrible experience and my friend checked her credit card online and he had charged us in full without the stated discounts. We tried to dispute the discount amount on the credit card that we were promised, but this vendor submitted a story of such detailed lies, that won the dispute and we had to pay in full. The most shocking part of it all was the dishonesty submitted to the credit card, they are clearly masters of handling disputes and acting in a fraudulent manner. This establishment should be shut down. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!! read more

Do not believe the bad reviews! I almost didn't come here because of them but still gave it a try. The restaurant is located in the Minerals Resort which also has bad reviews and I don't understand why. Beautiful resort and excellent restaurant. The inside of the restaurant was a bit stuffy and pretty ordinary. Sit outside for the views of the mountains. Everything I ate was amazing. I was surprised how unique the menu items were. They had more than just your typical burger. Prices are very reasonable. Calamari starter was flavorful, lightly fried and served with fried kale. Delicious. I had to try the Short Rib grilled cheese because SHORT RIB GRILLED CHEESE! How could you not order that?! They could improve on the service though. Our waitress was kind of rude and we felt rushed but I still had a good experience. Give Kites a try if you are in the area. You do not have to stay at the resort. read more

I ordered the pork cuban sandwich. The sandwich arrived in a reasonable time with fries on the side. The sandwich was ok, not great not bad. The fries were seasoned well and crispy. The service was good, although the place was nearly empty. The manager came over to check on me and that was nice. My only problem was that it was a little pricey for its quality, but that's how it goes when you eat at the resort. If you are starving and don't want to travel and don't mind overpaying, then eat here. There are much better places to eat not far from the resort. My 7 year old could have done a better job and if she couldn't, she certainly would not have sent an order out of the kitchen looking like that. The toast was inedible and some of the greens were rotten. That's what we got after waiting approximately 45 minutes for avocado toast, yogurt w granola, and pancakes (+3 iced teas and a coffee). They took the avocado toast off the bill and it was still $50 before tip! No food integrity or quality control. Don't waste your time or money. Um, is there a choice for negative 1?? We stayed at the Mineral Springs Resort for a few days back in December. After we were settled and checked things out around the resort, we decided to find the bar a get a couple of cocktails. We wandered into Kites Restaurant about midday on a Sunday. There were a few people having lunch and no one at the bar. We seated ourselves and waited a bit for someone to come out of the kitchen to help us. My husband ordered a Moscow Mule from the menu and I asked for a Stoli Orang with a splash of cranberry and some seltzer. They had no idea how to make the Moscow Mule. Not sure what they used, but instead of ginger beer, it tasted like some kind of lemon cleaner. No garnish, had to ask for a lime. Just really bad. I thought my drink order was pretty straightforward. The barmaid poured some Stoli, a little cranberry and some seltzer. It was only three-quarters full and she started filling the rest with ice. I asked for more cranberry and seltzer instead of ice. And... no garnish. I asked for a wedge of orange and that seemed to be an issue and was given a lime wedge as well. There were no decent-sounding appetizers so we skipped ordering food. No harm, no foul. We had dinner reservations at Restaurant Latour so would save our appetite for later. (See my review on the AMAZING) Restaurant Latour) So we had a resort credit for breakfast and went the next morning around 10am. Don't judge, it was a day off so we didn't need to get up early. We waited at Kites to be seated for about 10 minutes. Mind you, there were only about 8 tables with people at that point. I am not exaggerating, but the entire breakfast service took 90 minutes! There were so many people leaving because of the wait and because their orders were screwed up. We patiently waited. So I ordered the salmon plate and my husband ordered 2 fried eggs, sausage, hash browns and toast. My husband also ordered coffee that was filled exactly once in the entire hour and a half. I nursed my orange juice. When our meals FINALLY came out, the salmon looked beautiful and I was excited. For a hot minute. The "bagel" was a mini lenders bagel that was so dried out I couldn't even cut it. And there was no cream cheese as stated on the menu. Luckily my meal was already cold because getting the cream cheese and a replacement piece of toast took forever. My husband's breakfast had no toast and no hash browns. Two eggs, and two sausages. When the toast and hash browns finally arrived, they were not accompanied by butter and by then, the eggs were cold. All in all, both experiences with Kites Restaurant were pretty poor and we will never return. While checking out, I let the front desk know that breakfast was pretty terrible and took forever. He adjusted our bill and did not seem surprised at all. Since the people staying at Minerals are pretty much a captive audience, they could do really well if they improved their service and the quality of their food and drinks. read more

It's like playing a game of "what will disappoint me this time?" Staff? Staff is very friendly, very nice. Service was for a larger party and ya know? I'd even say 5/5 service considering. However, the food... the Minerals Resort is beautiful so you'd expect great dining at such an establishment. You would be wrong. The food is pricey, which normally isn't an issue considering the wonderful nature of the resort, but wow the menu is basically spinning the wheel on what you will be disappointed about. The atmosphere also resembles a funeral, I mean no disrespect, but that doesn't get me in a party mood. The "Truffle Fries" were the frozen arby's fries with truffle seasoning and oil from a country you and I have never heard of... the risotto was Uncle Ben's rice with the steamables variety vegetable from the local grocery. To be fair, management gave us 20% off our party of 9 meal which is appreciated, but WOW that food was awful. The only good thing about it was you and your family will have a good time stating "wow that was an awful idea".... While waiting I asked several times where the food was - and was given hostile looks from the hostess / manager. Finally she stormed off and the waitress came over to tell me to definitely complain because she hates working for the manager. The food was OK - but certainly not worth waiting for (we ordered an omelette and bagel w lox). I felt badly as there were two other tables that still didn't have their food when we left - and they'd arrived at the same time as we did. (Assume we got ours only because we complained.). Worst experience we have ever had sitting down for breakfast. Hostess was rude to us and every group that came in after us. We had a 10am reservation, walked in at 9:55. We weren't seated till about 10:30 (stared at an empty dirty table for 20min.) After being seated we sat for 15 min before i had to go ask the hostess where our server was. And she told me she'll tey and find someone for us. Food was Ok but not for the prices. (The side of toast is literally 1 piece of bread) Save your money and go to the town about 5 min. Away and get your meals from a local restaurant. Dinner here was just as bad and over priced. We tried the buffet the following day for breakfast and although the service was good here the food was horrible. Everything was cold and seemed as if it had been sitting out all night. Bagels, croissants and muffins were hard as a rock (the person serving wouldn't even give them to us, she banged it on the table to show how stale it all was). We really were looking forward to loving our trip to Minerals resort but so many negatives (outside of the dining) would never allow us to book here again. Aug 2021, our server Breanna was fabulous! The decor of the restaurant needs to be spruced up a little, it looks outdated. Plus I cannot understand why the floor is rugged throughout the restaurant, it is harder to clean, and I can imagine the germs that must be imbedded in the rug. I would just pull the rug up and show the beautiful wood floors as in the Main Lobby, and it would be easier to clean. Now for our food order. I ordered the Grassfed Beef Hamburger (med. rare) that tasted okay. My other two friends ordered the Kale and Quinoa Salad - one ordered it with Salmon, and the other ordered the Kale Salad with Shrimp. They both said the salad was fine, and fish was fresh. However, they expected the Kale leaves in the salad to be chopped, not whole. All and all, besides the food just being okay, I am sad to say we will not be dining at this restaurant in the future because you can smell the pool chlorine throughout the restaurant, and that is a big turnoff for me. If you want to eat here, I would avoid sitting inside the restaurant and eat outside instead. read more

Wow, what a pleasant surprise! All these negative reviews made my wife and I second guess our decision to go out for breakfast at Kites restaurant inside of Minerals Resort. We were so glad that we did! Our server,Heidi, greeted us promptly with a $30 courtesy card for our meal. I got two eggs any style with bacon, hash browns, and English muffin with jelly and my wife got the jersey ham sandwich on a brioche bun. We were served hot coffee while waiting for our breakfast. The food came out in a timely manner and let me tell you,it was so good!! The best part of our experience was our server, Heidi. We did not need to ask for anything. Coffee refills, water refills, and condiments for our breakfast were served without asking. Thank you again for a lovely experience. We will definitely be back. read more

Cozy Bar at the Ski Resort My wife and I decided to take a tour through northern NJ including Vernon, home of the Mountain Creek ski resort, formerly Great Gorge/Vernon Valley. Fall is a nice time to enjoy the scenery which we did on a quiet Saturday. Before making the drive home we stopped in at the bar in Kites Restaurant that is upstairs from the health club and other stuff (hotel check-in, tennis courts, basketball court). So I cannot speak for the restaurant itself or its food quality, we did not eat. The bar is not huge but probably seats about 20 or so. It seems to be made from marble which is kind of a theme for this area of New Jersey which apparently had working quarries back in the day. The elevated vantage point offers a nice view on a clear day. The bartender was very sociable as one would expect and efficient in taking care of an assortment of customers, most of whom seemed to be in town for wedding celebrations. There was a good selection of craft beers on tap, a variety of wines and an assortment of liquors. I would say the prices were moderate to high however in this part of the state there are not too many options. Overall we enjoyed our time at Kites and I'm sure will return again when we are in the area. read more

About a year ago someone decided to completely change the menu and get rid of most of the favorites. What stayed on the menu received a pretty steep price increase (yes, I know inflation but this exceeded expectations). Restaurant is still pretty good but nowhere near what it had been which is disappointing. Agee with most of the posts talking about no reservations and the restaurant is half empty but I assume that is a staffing issue. Not sure if it was a change in management that mixed things up but most people aren't happy. It's a shame because it is a really nice spot. read more

The positives? Service was wonderful the two times we went there during our stay at Minerals. The negative? The food. We ordered two flatbreads. One was the Buffalo chicken. The other was a pepperoni, sausage, and ham. The ham on the flatbread was the kind you get on Easter. I mean. Really? It was almost gray and thickly cut. No sausage to be found. The pepperoni was bland. We picked off the ham since it was so unappealing. The flatbread dough was mushy and not baked on either order. The Buffalo chicken was just ok. Our server was awesome. He apologized, went to speak to the manager. The solution from the manager was another round of drinks on the house. Sigh. For what you are paying for, the manager should have come out and taken one dish at least off the bill. read more

Yikes y'all. The servers are clearly overwhelmed. The hostess brought us water because we had been sitting for 20 minutes and hadn't been greeted. We saw a table sit dirty for an hour. A couple next to us flagged down the food runner and asked for more coffee; he literally replied "you'll have to get your server for that" and the guest was like well I haven't seen her but the guy already walked off by then. As someone who used to work in hospitality, that is an incredibly unacceptable response. He gave us our food as well but after seeing his previous interaction, I didn't want to ask him for the silverware or salt. And the breakfast food was very not appetizing. Everything tastes very artificial and just lacks ...everything. The table next to us hated the eggs (super simple right?) and got those removed. The table on the other side hated the avocado toast and got that removed. BEWARE!!! THIS PLACE WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY!!! Believe all the other awful reviews that you read here, Google, TripAdvisor, etc- they are SO bad! The poor food quality, hour long wait just for a drink and additional hour and a half long wait for food is forgiveable. What is not forgiveable is the absolute WORST manager I have ever seen at a restaurant in my entire life! He leaves his poor staff in the weeds and walks away throwing his hands up and leaving them to deal with all the issues. Then he won't give you a receipt, lying about his printer being down, charge you double and then lie to AMEX (and his boss) that you refused to sign the receipt. In between all this he will literally scream in your face after getting frustrated with all the chaos he created around him- which based on other reviews seems like yelling at customers is common for him. This ridiculous man needs to be fired immediately as he WILL end up getting this place into a law suit. We were warned by 2 tables as we sat down initially to go somewhere else and SO wish we listened! read more

Stayed at Minerals for the weekend and had both dinner and brunch at Kites restaurant. Absolutely loved the place. First off, all the food was great. Had a steak that was cooked perfectly and a penne vodka that was excellent. Brunch was equally as good, lots of options and everything was fresh. Restaurant has a nice atmosphere and bar area, all of the staff was friendly and professional. Overall experience was great and will be returning. read more

First let say I read a good portion of reviews for this and am seriously surprised at the amount of negative reviews. My wife and I stayed at the resort for New Years and had dinner at Kites one night. I am not kidding when I say, it was one of the most enjoyable 3 course meals I've ever had. We had the buffalo chicken focaccia for appetizer which was fantastic. Great bread and great buffalo sauce. My wife and I loved it. I don't remember what my wife had for main course but she liked it. I got the friend chicken meal, which was a weird selection for me. IT WAS AWESOME! Can honestly say I'm not the biggest fried chicken connoisseur but this was the best fried chicken I've ever had. Great portion. Dessert was my favorite. I'm obsessed with cheesecake and I got the oreo cheesecake. Huge portion, very creamy. It was so good I ran and got a piece to go the next day. Apparently some people have had issues with their servers but ours was very sweet and gave good service. I unfortunately do not remember her name. If there is one thing I would gather from the bad reviews, don't try the calamari. Other than that, I loved the meal and will absolutely go back anytime I am in that area. read more
