Scallop with Uni on a shishito leaf. Delicious
Launi K.

Kiwami is consistent with interesting sauces on basic sushi. Everything was very fresh. The Uni sampler is delicious as well are the oysters. The tuna with crispy onion was amazing as always and no one does spicy tuna on buttery crispy rice better. The only thing that wasn't very good was the short ribs. They were tough and tasted steamed not browned in a way that would have made the meat tender. But the service was welcoming and fast. You will not be disappointed!

Spicy Tuna with Popcorn Shrimp Roll

I'm a sucker for a Katsu-Ya restaurant, and this is the exact same menu as The Izakaya by Katsuya in a slightly more elevated environment with great service! I loved it! Tuna Sashimi w chimichurri sauce special - 5 stars. The tuna was light and fresh and the sauce complemented this perfectly! Spicy Tuna Popcorn Shrimp Roll - 5 stars. The rock shrimp on top is creamy and delicious, and the roll beneath was excellent as well. Brussel Sprouts - 4 1/2 stars. Flavored with balsamic this is a delicious vegetable side. Spicy Salmon Roll - 4 1/2 stars. Pretty standard but well executed. Albacore Sashimi w Crispy Onions - 4 stars. Usually a perfect score, but I felt the fish could have been a bit colder. Baked Crab Hand Rolls - 5+ stars. Favorite dish here, these can't be beat! Robert Roll - 5 stars. A delicious roll that's on the mild side, no heat but rich in flavor with a creamy texture. Assorted Ngiri - 5 stars. All fish was excellent, no notes! Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice - 5 stars. Didn't chef Katsuya invent this?! It's absolute perfection, it doesn't get better than this. I wish they had more than beer/sake here, but outside of that this spot is perfection and extremely reasonably priced for the fish quality and outstanding hero items. An absolute favorite!

I came here after the bar and ordered SO much food. I enjoyed every single piece of sushi. The uni was amazing. The food came out very quickly. I also did not have a reservation but they accommodated us almost immediately after someone cancelled.

Kiwami is that perfect blend of classic and elevated. The crispy rice rolls? A staple, but they do them so well--crispy, buttery, and just the right amount of spice. Sunset roll had such fresh avocado on it! Not pictured would be The baked blue crab hand roll on soy paper was easily my favorite of the night. So good I ate it before I could take a pic--rich, creamy, and wrapped in that delicate soy paper that makes every bite seamless. The spicy tuna popcorn shrimp roll brought the crunch and I loved adding some fresh wasabi on to it for some heat, while the yellowtail and salmon belly sashimi were melt-in-your-mouth fresh. Service was incredibly attentive without being overbearing, and the whole vibe was warm and welcoming. Whether you're a sushi purist or love a creative roll, this place delivers. Will definitely be back.

I haven't been here in a few years, but I came back last night and I was pleasantly surprised, the quality of the fish here was really good. I like that they have an outdoor patio that will be nice on summer evenings. The food, service, and ambiance was great, I will definitely be back again. I recommend the 4 1/2 & creamy salmon rolls, and from the assortment of sushi we had, the standouts were the salmon special and yellowtail belly. The quality of fish and flavors on the sushi were delicious.

Excellent sushi spot. Yes, there are many sushi places to choose from but I was glad to try a new place when I couldn't get into another I like. Their sashimi was so fresh, and they had a great selection to boot. I look forward to trying rolls the next time I am in Los Angeles. I loved the environment; very calming, beautifully decorated (on the dark side) and not crazy loud. It's also the type of spot you could come in solo in casual clothes, or have a celebratory dinner dressed to the nines. Service was great. Kudos to the mochi ice cream sandwiches (to-go desserts) by the front entrance

Happy Hour Menu
Haylee J.

I've been coming here for years and have always enjoyed it, but unfortunately, I think today was my last visit. We came for happy hour and were seated in the back near the wall. It took 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged us, and honestly, we should've just left then. What made things worse was seeing tables that were seated after us get their food before we did. Throughout the entire meal, I watched the manager check in with every other table--except ours. Not exaggerating. Maybe they were understaffed, but that doesn't excuse the way we felt as customers. At the end of the day, everyone deserves at least decent service. I really hope things improve--for the sake of the restaurant and the people who've enjoyed it in the past, like I once did.

The chef's give the best options, my personal favorite is Yellowtail Belly special and Red Snapper.

Our go-to sushi spot for date night, out with friends, family night, etc. Kiwami has been my husband's and I favorite sushi spot for almost 3 years. We love the waiter staff (Erik) they know exactly what I like. The chef's are always attentive and give the best options and always show us new things to try (why we love sitting at the bar). The chefs, waiters, and management along with the food is why we return for good food, ambiance, and laughter. Unfortunately, after our last visit, I'm having trouble returning and possibly won't because of my past experience. The chef whom we sat with (not sure of his name), but he's one of the newer chefs, as I've only seen him last couple times. For the most part, we always order the same items, unless one of the chefs recommend something new to try. Since we've never sat with this chef, I was explaining myself and on what/how we like certain nigiris, so no error is made, and there's no loss. In the beginning, chef was nice about it, then when a mistake was made with our order, he became aggressive and said, "it's however the chef wants to make it", but I had told him how I would like it and maybe I've had my nigiri that way for about 50 orders in total visits I'd know. I didn't request an omakase, where the chef does decide. The chefs have always accommodated how I like it (especially since the YT special was shown to me by one of the chefs). I was very distasted by his attitude and just shut off and stopped speaking to him and did not enjoy my food. He realized how upset I was, and told me he can change it, but it did not matter to me anymore, as I was very upset and just wanted to leave as soon as my husband was done eating. From this one incident, I probably won't return to Kiwami. My recommendation -- sit at a table, the waiters are amazing. The food is good.

Outside Happy Hour Sign
Anika M.

This place does tend to get busy especially during happy hour. They do seem under staffed for a Sunday Happy Hour. You are sat right away but it then takes awhile before you are addressed at your seat. We were sat at the sushi bar and it took over 15 minutes to be acknowledged. Once we put in our order it took another 30 minutes before we were given our food. The hand rolls were okay. The fish was minced up too much (baby food consistency). Not sure if this is just the quality for happy hour or if it's all the time. Given their happy hour prices I guess should explain the quality.

Katsu-ya Creation Bento*
Madison G.

I never miss a trip to Kiwami when I'm in LA. This time I ordered through Uber Eats and it was just as delicious! The lunch bento is such a good bang for your buck, and DONT skimp out on the extra scallop nigiri- with yuzu and salt of COURSE. They pack it for you separately and it's the perfect touch.

We were seated outside. The food and the service were both very good. The price was reasonable.

Located on Ventura Boulevard, Sushi Tomoki is a small, intimate sushi restaurant with a clean, minimalist Japanese aesthetic and a relaxed atmosphere that lets the food take center stage. (The Infatuation) Since we were dining with our 22-month-old, we requested a table instead of sitting at the sushi bar, and the staff was very accommodating. They even prepared a customized tamago sushi roll for our little one, which he absolutely enjoyed. The omakase was thoughtfully paced, with each piece served one at a time so we could fully appreciate every bite. The fish was incredibly fresh, and every piece practically melted in our mouths. The attention to detail and quality of the ingredients really stood out. The only piece that wasn't my favorite was the sushi topped with mint. It simply wasn't my personal preference, though I'm sure those who enjoy mint with savory dishes would appreciate it. The service was exceptional from start to finish. Everyone was warm, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. They made my sister's birthday even more special by singing Happy Birthday and surprising her with complimentary sherbet and four pieces of green tea mochi--a thoughtful touch that ended the evening on a high note. Overall, Sushi Tomoki delivered a memorable omakase experience with outstanding sushi, attentive service, and a welcoming atmosphere. We'll definitely be back.

Without having a reservation, she sat us down immediately. Our server Meika approached us right away to take our order. Spicy Tuna Cut Roll--for 10 pieces ($14.80), Albacore Fried Onion Roll-- count of 12 for ($20.80), Zero Roll-- count of 12 for ($25.00), Rainbow Roll-- count of 12 for ($10.80). Everything was so LIGHT, FRESH and DELICIOUS!!! They also have hand rolls, and other types of cut rolls. They have street and metered parking. Before I forget, we ordered Crispy Rice Tuna that came in (2) pieces for (13.50). The minute I saw that, it made me laugh. Called our server and told her to take that back and remove it from the bill which she gladly did. I thought it was going to be an actual full course rolls. They also have dessert but we didn't order anything. Restaurant was very quaint, limited decor, very busy for Monday mid evening, and was very nice and clean. Total came out to be $95.70 including tax minus the tip. I'm sure they also have a bathroom, but we didn't end up using it. I will return, but not any time soon. They also don't have any Bento Box type of food. Very authentic place to go on a date, friends, family or even dine solo. They also have a Sushi Bar. Alcohol wise, only have beer, wine and sake along with 2 fridges full of cold drinks.. Thank you all very much!!

Teru is a modern, trendy restaurant playing classic pop music with an intimate setting. A line of happy sushi chefs greet customers coming and going in the front. its funny since from the outside, the restaurant looks so unassuming from the street level. The food was excellent and I give 5-stars for the hot entrees like chicken teriyaki (5 stars) and the miso black cod appetizer (4 stars). Wife felt the miso was a bit too heavily sauced but I liked the rich flavors. We replaced the default rice with sushi rice and the sticky texture and vinegary flavor was well worth it. The Brussels sprouts and mushroom appetizer was also full of umami (4 stars). I got their nigiri combo with spicy tuna roll. Very good with fresh fish toppings (4 stars). I did not see an omakase option on the menu, but maybe that's off menu when price is not an issue. It turns out there is this small stretch in Ventura Blvd that has lots of sushi places, one that supposedly offers $400/person omakase.

Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout the meal. The food was good, but I don't think it justifies the $54 per person price. They had a nice selection of appetizers, and I especially enjoyed the gyoza and the spicy tuna on crispy rice. I wasn't a fan of the calamari, though. It was heavily breaded, and I would have preferred more calamari and less coating. The creamy rock shrimp was also a bit too sweet for my taste. I also didn't care for the cucumber salad. Whatever sauce they used just didn't pair well with the cucumber. Most disappointing, for $54/person they should offer carpaccio. Not worth the price for sure. The sushi rolls were just okay. There weren't as many different options as I expected, and a lot of the rolls were very similar with only small variations. They also used quite a bit of rice, which made some of the rolls feel filling without adding much variety. One thing I did like was that most of the specialty rolls came with only four pieces instead of the usual six or eight. That made it easier to try more items without getting full too quickly. Overall, the fish tasted fresh, but the rolls were pretty average. For the price, I don't think I'd come back. I'd rather go to Zeppin Sushi in Encino, where I think you get more value for your money. That said, the staff was wonderful, and they definitely made the experience enjoyable.
