You know when you say Mamma Mia in Italian when something is sublime and good? Well, in Japanese we/they say yabai (meaning OMG). Seriously yabai and OMG put together. Practicing my Japanese skills:-)) Soon, I will be a pro and start working for this lovely, clean restaurant. Didn't have much decor, but it was the simplicity that my son and I appreciated. There was a lot of love yesterday at this place. They also had a projector on the wall, showing how they make their food. It was interesting. When a certain food is good, along with the place, then it becomes to be great, and the answer becomes to be AMAZING!! It's like solving a math problem. Walked in yesterday right after they opened. It was exactly 5:15pm. Check their hours online. It's one of those restaurants that closes for a few hours and reopens again. Got a very nice greeting from James and all the other employees. They were all working together in harmony. He also took our order and Daniel and James brought out our dishes. Just like most Japanese restaurants, they had omakase. One day, I need to try that. They have beer and wine, sake, and also a few cocktails in their bar. We ordered a few things from their super extensive menu options. They are: two orders of their Toluca Lake Roll, a nice size garlic Edamame, one Rainbow Roll, one standard size Chicken Teriyaki, sauce on the side. And last but not least, got their Mix Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura Appetizer that came with white steamed rice, ginger salad and Miso soup. It came on a nice board, since they don't have a Bento Box. Even all their sauces and add ons were very fresh, delicious, and hot. Food came out very quickly. We stayed with water that was constantly being filled. What kind of surprised me is that they had this cute, large, square bin that James brought out for us to put our personal belongings. Our millions and our cars!:-)) I have heard that they do that in Japan, and few other high end Japanese restaurants. The restaurant was empty when we walked in, and within 15 minutes it was packed. A bunch of teenagers with their moms were sitting there, all lost and confused about a lot of things. Just giggling. When we were their age, we weren't allowed to leave the house, let alone go to a nice, fancy place like Akami. They have a huge parking lot that is shared with multiple businesses along with a clean gender neutral restroom. Restaurant is fairly new, opened the first week of July/2026. Thank you James, Daniel, management, and Akami Sushi. 20/10! They also have another location in Arcadia. It is so close to my house, that I will definitely go back again- very soon! read more

This fairly new restaurant came highly recommended by a friend so I took my husband here for his birthday and it was a hit! We ordered the Blue Fin Tuna Burrata, Salmon Black Pepper Sushi, Toluca Lake Roll, Blossom Roll, and Arcadia Roll. They were all unique in their own ways, absolutely delicious. The service was great, very attentive. At the end, our server asked which was our favorite item and I told him I needed to think on that because everything was so good. We finally came up with the Toluca Lake Roll being our favorite, then the Salmon Black Pepper Sushi. Nothing is overly doused in sauce, just a hint of each flavor, while still being able to enjoy the fish. Because it was my husband's birthday, they brought out the Shio Koji Ice Cream and it was delicious; never had an ice cream flavor like it before! What a gem! Akami has only been open for a few months and is tucked away in a pretty unassuming North Hollywood strip mall, but the sushi was amazing. We went for lunch and I got the sushi lunch set, which was a phenomenal deal with sides and miso soup. My husband got the lunch omakase, which was also great. We also ordered the hamachi kama, which was easily the biggest one I've ever gotten at a restaurant. A few of the omakase courses were a little delayed, but nothing that took away from the meal. Don't skip dessert! We got the homemade shio koji ice cream and hojicha purin. The ice cream had that distinct Japanese milk flavor, and the hojicha was punchy and tea-forward, which I loved. My sister casually mentioned we were visiting for my birthday and the host surprised us with a matcha crème brulee on the house, which was also very good. Service throughout was stellar and especially accommodating with our toddler. I made the reservation only about 30 minutes before and called about a high chair. When we arrived, they already had it set up with actual kids-sized cutlery instead of the usual plastic ones. Such a thoughtful detail. HIGHLY recommend and will absolutely be back! read more

We live close by and when I saw that there was a new sushi restaurant, I wanted to check it out! Luckily, the shopping center has their own designated parking lot, so one less thing to worry about. The dining room is modern, clean, stylish, and relaxing... it reminded us of The Bear, minus the chaos or anyone yelling! When we visited, the bar was projecting a World Cup game on the large wall across from the bar, offering the perfect balance for people who wanted a fine dining experience or sports fans who wanted to hang at the bar. The menu was expansive and had a lot of similar items as Sushi Kabosu and Yuzu, 2 of our favorite places down the street. We ordered some dumplings, a cut salmon roll, a bake scallop roll, and a Calidelphia roll (I think Paul G just wanted to say the name because it was fun). Everything was fresh and delicious! The scallop roll wasn't drowning in sauce, which I appreciated, and the fish was generous in each roll. The dumplings were so much better, crispier and more flavorful than any dumplings I've had at other sushi restaurants. We ordered a few Sapporo drafts and hot sake, and service was extremely attentive and friendly. I can see it getting more crowded and having similar wait times to Yuzu/Kabosu, so come visit them before they blow up! Terrific sushi restaurant just off of Lankershim on Riverside with excellent service and a cool, modern, minimalist ambiance. I had their signature tuna roll with albacore topped with crispy fried onions and the quality was there in this delicious and large roll. Even the wasabi was a notable standout. I ordered some toro or tuna belly next and when I did, the chef convinced me that I should try the tuna neck special, which I did. To be clear, it was delicious, but the bill came and it was $28 for the two pieces. That is the price of a 6 course hand roll meal at Kazunori, a meal which features tuna, salmon, scallops, yellowtail, blue crab AND lobster! To translate, it seemed a tad overpriced. All in all this is a quality but pricey sushi restaurant. read more

We came to this restaurant for my wife's birthday, and the experience did not disappoint. We ordered the Omakase "chef's choice" multi-course meal. The food was truly outstanding and even creative. My wife and I split a single Omakase order, and it was nearly enough food for our entire meal. In addition, our server Vivi recommended the lemon rolls (pictured), which seemed to melt in your mouth. They also have a quality selection of sakes at different price points. In general, the service was truly solicitous and attentive. Tucked into a mini-mall, this sushi restaurant might not seem like much from the street. However, there is convenient parking available, and this restaurant is a high-quality gem. Hands down one of the best service experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. Everyone was so attentive, accomodating, and hospitable, and provided very detailed and informative descriptions of the menu. We stayed there for 3 hours (the clean, modern decor won points from us) and didn't feel rushed at all. The sashimi tasted super fresh, and was incredibly tender and light yet flavorful. Loved the chirashi bowl. Do yourself a favor and order the shio koji ice cream--our server described it as having a "cereal milk" flavor, and it was so creamy and nostalgic, with delicate rice puffs that were just delightful. The food was incredible and the service was impeccable -- everyone was very kind and welcoming. Nice decor with clean lines and a good size sushi bar. Everything we ordered was delicious, fresh and packed with flavor, and beautifully presented, including the items we ordered from the kitchen; Angus beef rib eye steak, gyoza and Ika Geso (breaded squid). Wow this is the best new sushi restaurant! The interior is such a vibe. Very clean and modern decor. Perfect for a date night. All of the fish were so fresh. Absolutely loved the scallops. My favorite rolls were the Toluca Lake Roll and Arcadia Roll. We were obsessed with the spicy chili crunch on top of the Toluca Lake Roll. Hiii, This place is so yummy! Everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming, making it the perfect spot for a night out with friends. We sat at the bar and got to watch the chefs prepare our food, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Teddy, one of the sushi chefs, recommended the Toluca Lake Roll and the Blossom Roll, and both were absolute hits. Just tried this new sushi spot and I was genuinely impressed. The $68 omakase was an incredible value for the quality and variety of fish served. Every piece was fresh, well-prepared, and thoughtfully seasoned, so there was no need to add extra soy sauce. The chef paid great attention to detail, from the rice temperature to the balance of flavors in each nigiri. The chawanmushi was also smooth and delicious. Everyone here was incredibly friendly and courteous and gave great recommendations. The menu is extensive. Everything we had was exceptional. We go out for sushi often, but we aren't often blown away by the dishes - we were here! The burrata and tuna was a unique standout, as were the blue crab hand roll and black cod avocado cut rolls (all recommended by our server). I also LOVED the salmon sampler. I would highly recommend this place - great service, nice atmosphere, terrific, super fresh sushi. We will be back (probably a LOT) and it's close enough to the studios for work lunches, too!
