We had reservations for a party of 3 at 5pm on a Wednesday. My friends were running a little behind, but they seated me first downstairs at 5pm. Happy Hour runs from 3pm-6pm, with a select number of drinks and food at a discounted price, so I ordered a coconut daiquiri while waiting. My first friend arrived about 10 minutes later and we thought about ordering some food from the happy hour menu for the table, but the server said the food would come out very quickly so we waited for our last friend to arrive. Once the last friend got there, we ordered some of the items to share that the server had recommended from the Happy Hour menu: rosé rigatoni, golden cheeseburger & fries (he asked if we were ok with it being medium rare), and Korean fried chicken wings with the gochujang glaze (we asked if we could split the wings with the two flavors--the other being soy honey garlic--but he said you can only choose one flavor per order). We added on some items from the non-Happy Hour menu: spicy rice cake carbonara, kbbq pork jowl, and the mini honey butter pancakes. These dishes were so flavorful. The wings were crispy and not too spicy. I didn't think that I would like the cheeseburger as much as I did. It was juicy and dripping with flavor. It came with fries that were good, but the burger was the star of the show. The rosé rigatoni was perfectly al dente with a delicious rich sauce. The rice cakes had a nice chew to them and the carbonara sauce had a little kick to it to cut through the richness of the sauce. The pork jowl came out on a sizzling plate. It was tender and well seasoned, and ready to be wrapped in the accompanying lettuce. The meal ended on a high note with the mini pancakes. They're very rich, buttery, citrusy, sweet and great for sharing. Service was attentive. You do get a sense that they want to move you along, with dishes coming out pretty quickly and being cleared soon after you're done. But we ended up staying for a while to eat and talk, so we didn't feel pushed out at any time. I would love to come back to try out more of the menu. read more

The mini pancakes are the best non-pizza $16 you can spend. To get the viral, legendary honey butter pancakes in their original size, you have to wait two hours just to give the doorman a "massage" to get into Chinatown's Golden Diner. There, you get the looks of a Japanese soufflé pancake with the decadent, comforting eats of the American classic. They're great because the yeasted batter gives it airy tunnels, a high lift, and cupcake-like crumbs, and the fermentation lends a complex but subtle tang to the flavor profile, and the cooking process (no flipping) keeps it moist, golden brown, smooth, and uniform and they are drenched in a maple-honey butter syrup with notes of soy sauce and citrus. For some reason, Golden Hof doesn't have the same gatekeeping, so go get them. My wife disagrees, but I prefer the mini ones for the syrup to pancake ratio. Also, the plump chicken sandwich is outstanding (if you like bleu cheese), but I wanted to return my japchae (soy-glass noodles w/ non-preferred vegetables). We ordered Beef Set with additional Pork Belly, Soy Honey/Gochujang Wings, Sesame Brussels Sprouts, HOF Bibimbap. They all tasted really good. The menu had a good variety of options that non-Koreans would enjoy and what Korean would expect when ordering these dishes. The wings were flavored well. The beef set came with a good amount of lettuce wraps & condiments to dip the meat in. The unique one for me as a Korean was Sesame Brussel Sprouts and liked that it had a good sesame flavor to it. Lastly, we ended the night with a mini honey butter pancake that is well known from Golden Diner. I personally thought that it was decent, but maybe my expectation was higher... it was very sweet & very covered in butter for my liking. It's good thing to try once. I liked the creative Korean spin on a lot of classic American foods. I actually didn't like the pancakes as much as I remembered? The parts that weren't drenched in syrup were kinda dry. And the syrup had a kind of bitter alcohol-y aftertaste to me? Simply the best Korean pancake you will ever eat. Service was impecable, the atmosphere tranquil and the decor beautiful. Unlike their Chinatown location, no reservation or wait needed. They sell small versions of the pancake as a dessert along with Korean tapas-style dishes. Got there right around opening and there was no wait. We shared 4 dishes amongst 2 people and felt that was just right. While the flavor was there, I felt that the chicken wings were over battered and the crispy exterior was slightly hard to chew due to the stickiness of the glaze. Golden Hof is the sister restaurant to Golden Diner, the acclaimed, wildly popular and tiny restaurant tucked under the Manhattan Bridge near Chinatown and the Lower East Side (Two Bridges neighbourhood). They have a non-BBQ menu served on ground level, and a Korean BBQ menu served downstairs, with the traditional tabletop grills. They have a great Happy Hour menu too served anywhere on the ground level. I walked here after a Wednesday afternoon Broadway show, so was able to experience the Happy Hour menu. The front bar had a very boisterous group, so I sat towards the rear where the fairly large dining room is. I zoned in on dishes from Golden Diner's menu, namely their Golden cheeseburger and their Korean fried chicken wings. Both dishes are also on their regular menu for a few dollars more. I've been to Golden Diner long ago, but have never had their burger or chicken wings, so I can't say if they are exactly the same here at Golden Hof. I can say they were both delish. The cheeseburger was pickle-forward and juicy with a gochujang aioli. It came with fries, which were fine. The chicken wings, which you can have with a gochujang glaze or soy honey garlic (I chose the latter), were fabulously crisp, the sauce nicely sweet and salty without heat, which I don't much care for. The wings stayed crispy even the day after. And of course I had to try Golden Diner's famous honey butter pancakes, served in mini version as a dessert here at Hof. They are not on the Happy Hour menu but are exquisite--a stack of 2 thick pancakes drenched in the most delicious honey maple butter syrup and topped with lemon zest. It's the syrup that makes the dish. These supposedly are the OG version of the pancake served at bougie Erewhon markets in my hometown of LA. 4 stars for the unique dishes. 3.5 stars for the pricing & portions Finally tried the viral Golden Diner pancakes, but the smaller portion version ($16) at it's sister restaurant Golden Hof in midtown. The 2 "pancakes" are about 6" wide each & are actually like crumpets with one side that's domed & like a full sheet of crispy skin (delicious & unique, a little hard to cut through), the other side is softer & not "golden." They remind of the shape of korean hotteok cakes or chinese yeasted rice flour "cakes," but actually are closest to a "sealed" british crumpet. I wonder what kind of molds are used, I think the larger ones are made in a pan that goes into a really hot oven. The "pancakes" are soft & not really sweet. I think most of the cost of this dish is for the condiments & rent/wages. These pancakes remind me of something you can get as (really good) street food or similar to a bakery's "best roll" or arepa. Simple, high quality, but not a mind-blowing new bread product. For whatever reason I didn't put "honey butter" together & realized that it was the butter & syrup flavor (assumed in was a flavored pancake). These were very high quality: honey butter was whipped & seemed like it had some sort of miso or anchovy in it (maybe not). The syrup was thick & interesting. Apparently honey, butter, & at least soy sauce was in it (says online recipes). It definitely reminded me of the flavor of Korean honey butter flavored potato chips. You have to use a lot of sauce to taste the flavor, but it doesn't feel unhealthy/heavy/shockingly sweet - just perfect (no wonder why the dish is served with SO much syrup on top.) Went around 1:30pm on weekday (very quiet, a few people at the bar, 1 table in the back). Didn't realize that this restaurant is literally across from the Rockefeller center campus on 46th St. in Midtown. I only saw the front section which was a small - medium, somewhat narrow, had a curved bar & high-top stools at the front windows. It looks a bit more casual & welcoming than I expected. It's nice finding out that the chef/owners parents actually ran a well-known Korean restaurant formerly in the space & now he took it on. I was worried about the hospitality of the staff based on reviews, but service was quick and the bartender there was extremely nice. Golden Moment, Perfect Pancakes I came in specifically for the pancakes, and wow--they absolutely delivered. The seasoning was really off on the dumplings and sandwich where both were neither spicy nor flavorful. All you could taste on the dumplings was the truffle pecorino which was a bit funky and didn't pair well with the hot sauce. Even the sandwich was bland and there was absolutely no chili crisp detected. I'm glad I was able to try the pancakes without waiting in the Golden Diner line and while they're delicious, I don't think i'd be back just to get the pancakes again. Great spot for Korean food! Came here cause my partner cause we did not want to brave the wait for the pancakes at Golden Diner. Came here for an early dinner around 4pm on a Thursday. The place was pretty empty when we visited but quickly filled up by the time we were starting to wrap up our meal. We shared the Rosé Rigatoni, Korean Fried Chicken Wings, and Ssamjang Caesar Salad. The rigatoni was my favorite, the wings were great, and the salad was a nice refresh from the pasta and protein. We of course ordered the Mini Honey Butter Pancakes. After seeing Golden Diner all over my instagram last year, I was determined to take a trip to the city to visit, but the crowds and lines discouraged me. To my pleasant surprise, I found out this restaurant was the new, spacious sister restaurant of Golden Diner and I planned my trip. The interior is quite large and moody with one seating bar at the entrance and one in the back dining room which faces the open kitchen. This was quite interesting. Rose rigatoni: Delicious, creamy and the nori on top gave depth to the flavor and was a great texture contrast. Fried chicken: Table unanimously agreed that the soy honey garlic wings were better. Gochugang wings were not as spicy as we wanted them to be & not as gochugang forward. Nonetheless, wings were cripsy, hot and delicious. Kbbq for two: I wondered if they would bring a portable grill plate because our table didn't have a grill in it. Actually most tables I saw didn't have a grill in it. They brought the cast iron with meats already cooked. Interestingly, the cast iron was not piping hot, but the meats were tender, cooked well, and of good quality. Kimchi Jjigae: Was my personal star of the show. I really enjoyed it and compared to others I tried, this one was my favorite. The only con is it was warm/hot, I really expect the food to be like smoking. Golden pancake: Got these to go so can't adequately judge them. I was excited to try these. Golden Hof - Korean Bar & Grill is conveniently located near Rockefeller Center. This has only been in this space for about a year and I really like the decor and vibe. (I had been to this location when it was a different restaurant. There are a lot of tables over 2 floors. (The bottom floor has the in-table Korean BBQ). I assume same owner as Golden Diner since it has some of the same or similar items, including a smaller version of the famous Honey Butter Pancakes. Reservation for a party of 2, Sunday night. We reserved a BBQ table (which is located downstairs.) 2 gender neutral restrooms upstairs, more downstairs, and all appear to have coat hooks. Unsure if baby changing station is available, I didn't see a sign indicating it. Plenty of gluten-free options, which is a big deal for a Korean restaurant (and much appreciated!). We decided to share a Prime KBBQ set (MIXED SET for 2). It includes NY Strip, Picanha, Pork Belly and Marinated Short Rib. The Pork Belly and Short Rib were my favorites. It also includes banchan, lettuce, rice, and choice of either doenjang stew or kimchi jjigae stew. (We went for the kimchi jjigae). It was the perfect portion for 2 people and we even had a little leftover. The staff gave us the option of cooking for us or us cooking ourselves (with their assistance). We chose to have them cook for us and everything came out great. We somehow saved room for dessert because my friend REALLY wanted to try the Honey Butter Pancakes (they are amazing! Larger portion that expected, fluffy, delicious and unique flavors). I ordered a swirl of the Pine Nut Soft Serve and Chocolate Sorbet. Perfect end to a great meal. read more

Went for dinner at Golden HOF on a busy Friday evening when the restaurant was busy and lively. Started with the Korean Fried Chicken with the soy honey garlic sauce and the Kimchi Ikura Pancake - both very good. For entrees had the Marinated Kalbi, King Salmon Chirashi, Japchae and HOF Bibimbap - not bad with the Marinated Kalbi standing out the most, nicely prepared. We had to try the Mini Honey Butter Pancakes for dessert. They were good but probably even better for brunch rather than as a dessert. read more

This was such a good find! The food was good! Wings and the vodka pasta were both solidly good, nothing outstanding. I didn't personally like the Buldak dumplings, but the chopped salad was a standout with a great dressing and lovely amounts of pork belly inside. The notable thing here is they have a mini version of the famous Golden Diner pancakes. I've never tried those and don't want to wait 2 hours in line for them, so I was super excited! They were actually really good and unique, well worth it, the sauce is fantastic and the texture was perfectly crunchy and soft. The space is super nice and actually huge, way bigger than it seems. Service was solid, extremely fast and maybe a bit pushy to turn the tables over but makes sense given how packed it was on a Thurs night. Overall, there are a ton of new style Korean places like this one so while I wouldn't necessarily be clamoring to return, it is definitely a great choice. read more

Stumbled upon this restaurant while in the area. We were in the mood for Korean Fried Chicken and decided to give this a go. It was a pleasant surprise to learn that this is Golden Diner's sister restaurant so we got excited about finally trying the viral pancakes. Unfortunately, we were way too full after our apps and shared entree so we couldn't fit in desert. Next time we'll try it! We walked in around 9:30pm on Tuesday for a table of 2 with no reservation and they were able to seat us. I had no idea the restaurant was so huge (2 levels, multiple bars, etc) because it didn't have that appearance on the outside. It was a lightly dimmed space, with great decor, and attentive service. We shared two apps and by the time our shared entree came out we regretted ordering it because we were stuffed! There's a place in K-town we usually go to for KFC but this may have topped the cake. The skin was incredibly crunchy and the chicken was silky. It was soooo good. And the Caesar salad had a nice touch as they incorporated sesame seeds. I did not go to the restaurant because I do not eat indoors, but I've been dying to try the pancakes so I ordered a lunch set delivery. Both the galbi lunch tray and the pancakes were super well packaged so everything was still hot by the time I got to my apartment. The meat was so well marinated and all the banchan was delightful, especially the potato salad. I did the $4 soup add on but that was the only part of the meal I didn't love. Now the pancakes are in a class of their own. 100% worth the hype and at $15, totally reasonable to buy rather than retrofitting your kitchen to make them like the chef does lol read more

A good spot for drinks and light bites with coworkers after work. They have happy hour from 3-6PM on Mon-Fri, which includes happy hour prices on select menu items as well. The Rose Rigatoni is a must! For happy hour it's a good deal at $16 versus $23 regularly. The Korean Fried Chicken Wings are $18 during happy hour versus $22 regularly. The Sesame Brussels Sprouts ($18) were a miss for me - they were way too saucy and drenched. The Mini Honey Butter Pancakes ($16) are also a must at the end of the meal to share - the sauce is pretty rich, I wouldn't want to know how many sticks of butter go into one of these. I have been trying to get a table at the golden diner the past couple of times I have been in NYC. There is always multiple hour long waits but that's what Golden HOF comes in handy for. They are Korean diner with an American twist. They are the sister restaurant to golden diner and a great option if you can't get in. Both the pancakes and cheeseburger were delicious. They also have many Korean inspired dishes as well. A cozy pub like atmosphere with great service. Walked in on a sunny Saturday afternoon when we were visiting Rockefeller center. I had heard of Golden Hof as a sister restaurant of Golden Diner, and was super excited to give it a try! Did not disappoint! Loved the food - the Buldak dumplings were cheesy spicy perfection. And the kimchi pancakes were the highlight - crisp and delish. We ended with (not pictured) honey pancake that was melt in mouth delicious. Great portion sizes. The music is a tad louder than I'd have liked, but I think that's characteristic of every other place in midtown Manhattan. Can't wait to go again! read more

Golder Diner is almost impossible to get into. But thank goodness for Golden Hof to save the day!! My boyfriend and I had it on the list and we happened to be close by with a friend, watching a show at Rough Trade. Boy, were we pleasantly surprised by the space. The restaurant was able to more our reservation up but it would be in the basement. And the basement was just as charming as the upstairs. I started my meal with a cocktail: "TOASTED RICE MARTINEZ 19 TOASTED RICE-INFUSED FORD'S GIN, COCCHI TORINO DI TORINO, MADEIRA". It was perfection! A hint that my socks were going to be blown off! The boys had the wings and they were obsessed! They also drank the "SevenBräu, Seoul Soul, Pale Ale". I had a sip and had it as my second drink. I was completely smitten. We ordered the KIMCHI IKURA PANCAKE, it was huge and it came with trout roe. I need this dish in my life, always! The boys got burgers and fries but they were still raving about the wings. Came here on MLK. Was able to easily grab a reservation via the Resy app. Took awhile to be seated once we were there but was happy we made it. As we were there at lunch, both the lunch and kids menus were available. We each ordered the lunch specials and the kids got the kids lunch menu. Also ordered the infamous pancakes, dumplings and chicken wings as an add on. I must say the pancakes were my favorite. I could come here just for the pancakes alone. Definitely leave some room to try it. I would skip the dumplings next time - it was nice but it wasn't a fan of the cheese that came with it. read more
