I think this might be the only Korean BBQ in Salem but it does the job. The meats were good and the general presentation was good. The service was alright. Server was nice but he didn't really explain on what to do or how it works and this was my fiancé and mine first time here. Usually I can catch up pretty quick but it took some time this time. Really cool place overall, good selection of meats if you're not big in seafood the 35$ ayce is a steal. Time limit could be a little longer and they require all meat of the previous order to be cooked before adding more. Which is a good theory but what you get in short ribs and what you get in thin beef slices cooks at different speeds. The service has a little room to improve sometimes depending on where your seated other tables get their refills before you. Even if they started later than you did. Was craving KBBQ on the way home from a long trip so we decided to stop in Salem, seeing that they had a grand opening. I had high hopes for this Kkoki because I enjoy going to the one in Portland, but it was all down hill as soon as we got seated. Instead of taking our order or asking someone else to take our order, there were a couple employees that proceeded to clean BOTH tables we sat in between. We didn't have anyone to come check to take our orders until I was wandering moving my head and eyes. I almost just got up to ask someone to take out order. We went with the cheapest AYCE and there didn't seem to have much on it. The Portland restaurant had more options even for the lowest AYCE. After receiving food to put on the grill, they didn't even get our water to us until our 3rd round because we had to ask again. Ideally it shouldn't be more than a couple people serving us but we had like 4? Kind of annoying to get asked if we were doing okay so often, literally right after each other after we just got our food. There were also moments where none of them were to be found. Our grill kept burning because they put the heat so high and we tried to turn it low ourselves to avoid it. Also adding oil way before we receive our food? Literally burned the oil leading to a burnt grill = burnt meat lol. We were excited to see cheese corn was on the menu for $5.95 but the wording was so misleading because the menu says "All You Can Eat Side Dishes" BUT it's not all you can eat cheese corn?? Someone can accidentally be charged a lot for such misleading wording on the menu, so it's a good thing I asked before "purchasing" a second one for $5.95. The spicy pork bulgolgi was way too marinated and I don't even think it was bulgolgi marinade? It literally just tasted like spicy pork and it was overly salty. Regardless, added an extra star because 1/4 servers was cool even though he came near the end of our meal. He noticed our grill was burning and too high so for our last round, he changed the grill and kept the heat down. He treated us well and knew exactly when to come by. He also didn't forget anything we asked for. He was a goofy guy that made our experience a little better. Now I will always remember him as "Dinosaur Fat" because he called the beef fat that lol. Keep that guy around. You need a little excitement for a place that needs a lot of improvement especially in customer service. Love Kkoki but I'll never be back at this location. read more

For those of you who saw the bad reviews and think this is a bad restaurant, please go here. It is one of the best Korean bbq's I have been to in a long time at a good price point. The service was good (some mistakes here and there hence the 4 star) but the food was great. Obviously it wont be the most authentic Korean bbq out there but it works for Salem. A lot of the bad reviews about this place are based on the fact that some people were expecting full service which is not the case with Korean BBQ unless you are willing to spend $$$ and go full authentic. The food is brought out to you and you cook it yourself at your table. The variety, even for the standard menu, was large and were able to try everything at least once. If you enjoy Korean BBQ but dont want to break the bank, I would definitely recommend visiting Khoki Korean BBQ. read more

Never tried Korean bbq before and was super excited to try it, and super happy Salem is getting new cool restaurants. Be prepared to cook the food yourself, I didn't know that going in, but it was a fun experience. It would be nice if they had a guide for recommended length of time to cook the different meats. My only complaint was the waitress kept coming by and adjusted our temperature up and down and kept screwing up the timing. Other than that we had a great time, the food was very tasty, and the punch was very tasty as well. It is a little on the expensive side so it will be more of a treat than a regular place. I was instantly confused and slightly upset. So I asked why, but they told me they don't know. If a customer wants something, fucking give it to them. Most mid food I've ever eaten. the tofu is HORRIBLE, the only thing that is good is the Mandu. I tried calling to order take out and the girl who answered sounded like the most airheaded person, she asked ME what THEIR menu was??? she had no idea what I was trying to order and kept interrupting me saying "ok ok ok" and then I ended up trying to order TWO things and this air head came up with the amount of 52.99??? nothing I asked for was above 12.99 so that was terrible. after 10 minutes of being on hold after she went to get a manager, I hung up and called back. talked with another staff member and she was even more frustrating. everything was cold and soggy and squishy when it was supposed to be crunchy even a little bit. tldr; worst korean food, even worse service. everyone can find so much better read more

Thought I'd give this place another try since we went when near the time it first opened. Food was great this time! Loved the thick slices of spicy pork belly. I wish they gave 4 pieces of galbi so a couple could have at least 2 each since they were on the thinner side. Beef bulgogi still lacked a bit of flavor. I wish they include a spicy dipping sauce, like the jalapeño ones at other places. For the service, we didn't have to wait till our food was gone to order this time but it still was lacking. I thought being in the back with the bartender we would get a bit of a better service but no. She forgot our soju order and when we wanted to check out she spent a good amount of time talking to the couple behind us and it sounded like she helped them cook a bit of their meal. We even tried waiving down these two guys we saw, which one of them clearly saw us but just turned around and we even neatly organized our plates so they can easily grab it (snapped a pic of it). Personally I think they should incorporate the ringer on the table that some other places have to get their server's attention. Otherwise, I would maybe go back and try to be more proactive on getting someone's attention. read more

Unfortunately we had a bad time here during our first visit. We were sat next to the only other person in the restaurant when we got there (which is weird). Our waitress was not particularly attentive regardless of the lack of customers and the food is not good quality. Worst of all, when we told them we'd need to be leaving soon and would like our grill turned up, they smiled at us and then very obviously turned the grill down so that we couldn't finish in time. We had to leave a whole portion of food on the grill because the heat had obviously been turned off (even though we'd asked for it to be turned up 20 minutes prior to leaving. There is no reason chicken should not cook in 20 minutes). DONT GO HERE!!! Extremely horrible experience. My family went for the all you can eat Korean bbq and it was okay. They don't give you enough side dishes for the whole table to start which is fine because some of the side dishes we didn't even eat. The meat is very very very fatty. The worst part of all was right after we sat down. We got our drinks and immediately the server dumped a full soda on my husband and I. It was so bad it looks like he peed his pants and his brand new phone is completely ruined. When we talked to the manager the most he would do is 25% off which was barely anything. I told the manager that my husband's phone was ruined too and he said "you don't have insurance?" As if it's his fault that the soda got spilled on it. Overall horrible experience. There was only one other group there. We thought, "Sweet! Not crowded at all". I give this category a 4 out of 5 stars. Food: We did the AYCE $31.90/per person. There are a lot of different meats for AYCE. The meat is the most higher quality meats I've encountered at a Korean bbq joint. It also came with 4 unlimited small side dishes. Tonight, they offered Kim chee, bean sprouts, fish cakes and pickled turnips (I think). You could also order other items ala cart that are not on the AYCE menu. Totally a 5 out of 5 stars here. Service: Like I said earlier, there was only one other group in the bar area where we sat. We were promptly greeted by what looks like the owner or manager (an Asian gal, did not wear the same uniform everyone else had on) and was given menus, then the server came and brought water and explained the process. He was great. However, a large group of 15 or so people were seated and that's when we received TERRIBLE service. The server hustled and tried his best but came up short. He was also the bartender. We waited 20 mins AFTER the meats were delivered to receive the side dishes and vegetables. My husband waited another 20 mins for his water to be replenished (yes, we asked in advance). The owner/manager gal walked by our table nearly a dozen and a half times and went straight to the larger group and chit chatted and catered to them. My husband and I received absolute trash service from that gal. It is not above her to refill our water. I rate her 0 out of 5, can confirm. Our server was overwhelmed, there should definitely be more than one server at the bar. He tried his best.. but kept us waiting and waiting.. and waiting. Then we waited some more. Service was 3 out of 5. Overall: food is good, service from the gal was again.. absolute trash. Your best bet is to go with a large party to receive proper service. Party of 2s should look elsewhere.
