This is a Diamond in the Rough, we always enjoy (never disappointed) the menu. Everything from the perfectly cooked crusted pizzas, to the excellent Entrees . This time we enjoyed traditional Chicken Parm and Chicken Sorrento. Both dinners were not only generous portions, but tasted fresh and delicious. My granddaughter really loved her personal pizza. Been a loyal customer since they opened this location. Today my broccoli roll with extra fresh mozzarella was substituted with spinach roll without any cheese. To top it off it was soggy, sour and tasted like $13 piece of trash, where it went promptly. It must have been sitting out all day. Wasn't hot or freshly made. Definetely will never be back here. The only reason for me to ever be near the Avenue X stop of the F-train was because, following a devastating hurricane, I went out to a beach cleanup with an open water swim team and had to take the revised route which ends at the X. After bending over repeatedly for hours in probably the most unergonomic way possible in order to pick up loads and loads of plastic trash, styrofoam, plastic tampon applicators (oddly, this was what I saw the most), telephone poles, two-by-fours with long rusty nails sticking out of them, perfectly good sand pails and shovels, pill bottles, syringes, rubber gloves, and surprisingly not a single condom (not complaining), I nevertheless developed a vigorous appetite. I wasn't alone. When our compadres dropped three of us F-train riders at the X stop on our way back from the beach, we didn't scamper up the stairs to the platform, but immediately set out for food. "Sushi X" seemed just terrifying (we'll never know), so we kept walking. Knapp Pizza II, with its homey all-purpose-Italian scents wafting out into the street and its family style seating with a big screen displaying sports, was the obvious answer to my hunger. But the ladies I was rolling with were lured by a nearby creperie/cafe with mod furniture, TWO large screen TVs displaying sports, and those Asian-looking waxy/cute desserts on display under glass. Seeing that the crepes would be about $9 bucks sealed my decision to run back to Knapp to get some pasta to go and reconvene with my friends. Well, I didn't get far enough to even look at the menu, because the pizza looked so fine. A lot of the slices were that very rare thickness between regular and Chicago, and looked like they had a classed up version of that special oil-infused Pizza Hut crust (I mean this in a GOOD way; if this turns you off, then disregard this statement because I'm trying hard to make a very specific distinction, here). A full, fresh pie with fresh tomato slices, fresh mozzarrella, tomato sauce, basil, E.V.O.O., and fresh GARLIC was under the glass. Her name: Sophia Loren. No way. You'd be surprised how rare this combo is, especially with tomato slices over AND tomato sauce under the cheese, AND with honkin' fresh garlic throughout! Though a pizza covered with lush eggplant slices as large as braided rugs glistened in my periphery, I made an executive decision and asked for a piece of the lovely Ms. Sophia. Now, the staff here was NO NONSENSE. Guys, girls, cashiers, takeout masters, oven handlers, preppers...there were about 7 people in the mix...still-tan girls with cross necklaces cranking out takeout orders while on the phone and interfacing with present customers, chefs with uncooked slices on paddles whizzing by with it held high over everyone's heads, dudes moving orders and constantly checking the lineup in the huge ovens... I'm proud of myself for keeping up with the pace enough to stop a guy from bagging my slice, since I was going to put it directly in my mouth as I was walking back to the creperie. He slid it over to me on a paper plate. I dressed up the slice with hot red pepper flakes (which were actually HOT and not all dead and stale), and extra parmesan. It was great, and the crepe lovers seemed a little bit jealous, to be honest. Hey, the crepes looked great, though, just not as satisfying as my slice. So while they were still daintily chipping away at their eggy dishes, I actually WENT BACK to the spot. At this point, I was out of cash, so I asked if they had a minimum. The girl who I asked immediately gave a no-bullshit, who-the-hell-would-impose-a-minimum kind of frown and was like "naw." SWEET. So I got the eggplant (no fancy name for this slice), also ringing in at $3.50 after tax, with no b.s. card fee. Now this is what impressed me most...the same guy happened to take my slice out of the oven and ring it up, and he slid it over to me on the plate, no bag. Seems like not a big deal, but it is. His move showed not only recall and attention to customer preference, but the ability to reroute a habit of bagging to-go slices that's probably hard wired in every pizza place's muscle memory. Thanks sincerely, man! Back to the creperie I went to devour the weighty slice. While it was a bit richer than my previous slice and I'd have reversed the order of consumption if I could do it over again, I did not regret my gluttonous move. Sure, I was pretty darn full, but didn't feel sick or anything. Now I say that's good pizza. And I wouldn't necessarily have minded sitting at the hard booths with red tables, either...for all the people who were in there, there wasn't a lot of disorder - just a bunch of mellow townies quietly stuffing face and keeping an eye on the game on the TV. It remains to be seen if I'd go out of my way to get this pizza again, but I don't see why not, especially when I'm out by the beach again and just don't feel like Nathan's or DD, and can't wait until home. read more

Update: I was pleasantly surprised to see that the owner contacted me regarding my recent order. He was very professional and accommodating while trying to resolve the below unpleasant experience. I will give Knapp Pizza another try some time ( hopefully the shortage of employees is resolved by then). I wish I could leave zero stars to this place. Placed an order and delivery took 2 hours for a place couple of blocks away. The lady over the phone was beyond nasty. 3.5 stars, really. My office orders pizza from here every week and it is always a solid meal! We get the meatball & onion (yum) and spinach & artichoke w/Alfredo sauce pizza (double yum). Figured it might be good to come in to the actual restaurant one day! It looks like a typical pizza place (not that there's anything wrong with that) - a good amount of seating, and the decor isn't anything too fancy. They've got a TV on one of the walls and a long display of all their pizzas. What's great is that they have two large pizza ovens so they can crank out pizzas quickly. My boyfriend and I ordered a vodka slice, bacon Alfredo slice, and spinach bites. The vodka slice is good, but I wish that the vodka sauce was... stronger. There's another Knapp St. by my house and I loooove their penne alla vodka (but they don't do vodka slices). This slice was okay. As for the bacon Alfredo slice, I appreciate that the saltiness wasn't too overwhelming. Their spinach bites (which are like the spinach rolls, just cut up into pieces) are a nice concept. A slice of the buffalo chicken pizza from Knapp is a meal of itself. It was a mistake to order an additional slice of pepperoni. No matter, I enjoyed both. I would say this place is somewhere in the top 5 lunch spots in the neighborhood. The pizza served is what most people would consider typical New York style. If your not in the mood for that, deep dish and Sicilian style are available. This place has a touch of old school Brooklyn in it. I came here on a busy Friday night, thinking, "Wow, this place is pretty packed, so the pizza must be good." My biggest complaint is the congested ordering area. There wasn't a real line, or any real attempt to recognize patrons as they arrive in order. Okay, no biggie - this isn't my neighborhood, so I don't know how things work here. I ordered regular pizza no toppings, which was decent; not great, but okay. From what I can tell, a full pizza with more toppings is the way to go. Ordered delivery from delivery.com from these guys, they promply called me to let me know that one of the snapples was not available and if I wanted to switch it for another flavour. Food arrived quickly, under 30 minutes, and was good temperature. The pizza tasted good, so did the hot buffalo wings. They also provided all the plates, forks, and napkins which was nice since we just moved to our new apartment and had no utensils or plates as everything was still boxed up. I haven't ordered lunch from here in a long time, so I decided to give it a try. I wanted the pasta fajioli, but it was made with beef bouillon and I'm a vegetarian. Instead, I ordered the brushetta appetizer and gnocchi main course. The brushetta itself was ok, but it came on thin slices of Italian bread-untoasted- and was so saturated with oil that it fell apart and was inedible. Unfortunately, it was raw inside. My toddlers were sharing with us and my stomach is in knots thinking about this. Called them up to tell them. They refused to give credit which is fine, the guy said that people take advantage of it and end up getting a free meal. That's great, however I still have raw chicken under a gallon of sauce? The guy said they would deliver it again in fifteen minutes (which if done so, delivery guy would have discovered said raw poultry awaiting him). An hour passes, another hour... call back.... I've been coming to this pizzeria since I was 9 years old. I remember when it was a narrow, small and overlooked pizzeria but the service was as friendly as it gets. Then they knocked down the walls next door and expanded. Hurrah, pizza expansionism. They underwent a complete transformation and went from selling pizza to selling salads, rolls, etc. The pizza is absolutely amazing, and I have my own special order that they remember. I ate some of the balls off the pie and wasn't impressed with them. Pizza was pretty good though. My other friend who was hanging with us got a chicken roll. He devoured it but he is beast status and hadn't ate NY pizza in a while. He also ordered a rice ball topped with cheese. I tried this before he devoured it and it was ok. The cheese on the rice balls didn't make it any better in my opinion. We also got a few zepoles and they get 2 thumbs down. This time, I ordered a caesar salad with fried chicken and grated parmesan. The salad is half bad and the container isn't full, the salad dressing container is less than full (it usually is), and they didn't include the parmesan cheese I asked for. OH and they didn't include any bread, which they seem to only include when they feel like it. There's no consistency here. I love local, family-owned businesses. I try to patronize them whenever possible. I'd much rather go to a local, family-owned restaurant than to a chain -- and, luckily, there are a lot of local, family-owned options in my neighborhood here in Brooklyn. Relatedly, I never thought I'd find a pizza place that would supplant my beloved Delmar Pizza on Sheepsheadbay Road -- Delmar was where my family had always gotten pizza from, ever since I can remember. It is the pizza place I dreamed about while I lived in St. Louis (where pizza is bread or cracker and sauce and cheese, but it is not *pizza* if you know what I am saying). However, several weeks ago, my baby sister and I wanted Italian sandwiches (give me a potato and egg hero or give me... eggplant parm!), but neither of us wanted to call up Delmar and order over the phone, because we are sometimes phone-phobic and also a little bit lazy. So I booted up the computer and checked out the options on delivery.com. It offered me Knapp Pizza II, a place much closer than Delmar, also family-owned, with a wide menu. So we tried it. Whoa! Delicious sandwiches. Amazing marinara sauce. Quick delivery. They didn't even have a problem finding our house! (We are set back from the street, so unless we order from them often, the deliveryperson usually has difficulty finding us.) Maybe it was a fluke? On July 4th, we ordered from them again. Same quick service. Same delicious marinara. This time we ordered pizza and a spinach roll. The spinach roll was clearly made fresh, not made two days ago and heated up -- and it was nigh bursting with really delicious, garlicky spinach. The pizza was dripping with cheese, so much delicious cheese. The crust is perfect, the sauce is flavorful. I just ordered from them again. I cannot praise them enough! (Plus, unlike most pizza joints in Brooklyn, this place takes credit cards!) If you are ever in Sheepshead Bay and you want pizza, I recommend hitting up this place.
