Impressive Newnan! Knife & Stone is a new contender on the square, but it seems like it's become a quick favorite. This gem features locally sourced bites, crafted cocktails & a romantic dim atmosphere. I visited with my friend who's predominantly vegetarian & I was pleasantly surprised to find choices that both of us were pleased with. We ordered the tempura avocado, white bean & bread, squash & spinach, and smoked butter popcorn. All of the tapas were great with squash & spinach being my favorite. It had a delicious flavor that you could never tell was from squash. The only thing that wasn't the best was the popcorn. Although it was extremely flavorful & a great pair with the old fashion, it was full of kernels & it really hurt both of our teeth which made us stop eating it. In addition to these tapas I ordered the basil strawberry cocktail & she ordered an old fashion. Mine wasn't too strong or too sweet which was perfect, seeing as we all have to drive home after. The old fashion's smoking process is beautiful & added depth to the drink. I was laughing when she tried it & exclaimed, "Oh, that's strong!" Turns out, she didn't know what an old fashion was! The atmosphere of Knife & Stone is unlike anything in Newnan, as far as I know. It'd be a great place for a date or having cocktails with friends. It is a bit pricer than most places in Newnan, but the experience is absolutely worth it. In short, incredible! This is the kind of food you expect to find at a five star in a big city. Fresh and flavorful in a fantastic atmosphere. This place rivals or outshines the best Atlanta has to offer, or any city for that matter. If you're considering Knife and Stone, don't hesitate, go. We, my Girlfriend and I, discovered this restaurant on Yelp. I had opened the app hoping for a fine dining experience other than the Cellar and I was not disappointed. Not sure what to expect I called the restaurant at 7:00 to see if there was a table available that night and indeed they were able to seat us at an 8:30 reservation. They allot each party 2 hours for their reservations, coincidentally almost exactly the amount of time we spent. Upon first arrival the smell is fantastic and the atmosphere upscale yet cozy. We were seated immediately and there was no wait for drinks. It was a very nice touch that every waiter and waitress serves every guest, so no matter who happens by, they are able and willing to tend to whatever you may need. There are three menus, Tapas, main courses, and a cocktail menu. I'll be honest and say I didn't even look at the main course menu as we decided right off the bat that we wanted tapas. The waitress knew every available beer from memory and we both selected one of the craft beers from about 15 choices. The selection was quite good among craft beers with a few plain Jane domestics as well. For our first round we had the tempura avocado and duck poutine fries. The avocado was served atop a bed of arugula with a mildly spicy mayonnaise type dressing. The spicy and creamy flavors complimented each year other perfectly and made for a great light dish. The poutine fries were a favorite of my girlfriend. A great texture with nice duck flavor and a generous portion of shredded duck meat with a light gravy and a tangy bite from blue cheese. Again the flavors complemented each other nicely. We took about half of these home for later as not to fill up too fast. Round number two was Elk TarTar and duck fat Brussels sprouts. Both were excellent. The Brussels sprouts were cooked perfectly. There's not much else to say of them other than that they were just an excellent example of what Brussels sprouts should be. The TarTar was fantastic as well. Admittedly this was the first time I have had the dish but won't be the last. The plate included all the components separately laid out next to each other. A whole grain mustard, capers, horseradish, a spoon with two quail eggs, and of course finely diced Elk. The name of the game was to mix them together and eat it atop crostini. The Elk was perfectly tender with a great flavor that wasn't at all overpowering. As seems to be a theme with this restaurant the flavors melded perfectly with one another. Now comes perhaps the highlight of my night, a smoked Old fashioned. Easily the best cocktail I've ever had. The drink was composed table-side in impressive fashion. A cedar plant is torched and the the glass turned over on top of the charred wood, capturing the smoke. You can watch the small droplets of smoke condensing on the bottom of the upturned glass as the rest of the drink is shaken together. Once the glass is turned back upright the Smokey aroma is released and really sets the mood for what is to come. The drink is just mid blowing. Smokey and sweet with hints of caramel and fruit. Made with James E. Pepper Rye Whiskey. A must have when visiting. Our final course was challah foie gras and scallops with plantain. The foie gras was perfection. Smokey and flavorful perfectly balanced with a sweet blackberry jam mades with the rendered fat from the foie gras. The scallops were among the best I've ever had. Cooked to perfection and perfectly tender. The sweetness of the scallop highlighted by the subtle sweetness of the plantain. To cap off the night we ordered the bread pudding for desert. A sweet potato pie bread pudding with pecans and blackberries. Again, just amazing. The best bread pudding of my life and I love bread pudding. The texture was perfect, not too firm and not too soft and not dry at all. The texture was really made by the crispy exterior, achieves with a splash in the deep fryer. After such an incredible meal this desert really did not disappoint. The whole experience was amazing. The chef visited our table 3 or 4 times throughout the night to explain the dishes and check on us. We discovered at the end of the night that they offer a chef tasting which consists of small plates one after the other of the chefs choosing with as many courses as you care to experience. This is what we will be doing next and I recommend trying this from the get go as I'm sure you will not be disappointed. This is a must try. I wouldn't hesitate to travel well over an hour to have this meal and am ecstatic that the restaurants just minutes from my house. Give this place a go. You'll love it! read more

Wow... incredible experience at Knife & Stone. I can't say enough good things. We made a reservation for our anniversary and were seated immediately upon arrival. The atmosphere is exactly what you'd want for an intimate dinner. We started with the fried avocados.. there's a reason these are mentioned in so many reviews. They are amazing! We also had the wild mushroom soup, highly recommend, and Caesar salad, huge!! For our entrees, we had the ribeye and scallops. My husband claims the ribeye was the best steak he ever had! Scallops were delicious as well! And the fried brussel sprouts should not be skipped. For dessert, we were given the bread pudding as an anniversary treat and I promise you, we will order it next time we are there. It was divine. Like nothing I've had before. We are fairly new to the area of Newnan. We have been exploring our dining options as we came from the city and are very accustomed to having a wide variety of great food. Knife and Stone is quite the gem that we found here in Newnan. The atmosphere is rustic and inviting, the staff is friendly and attentive, the food is outstanding, and the owners/head chef are always willing to help you out with food restrictions, large parties and are always friendly. The dining room is small and intimate, which make for a great girls night out or date night. Sunday brunch is always amazing and they usually have off menu specials that are wonderful and inventive. tldr: Unique dining experience with drinks and dishes enhanced by various nuances of smoke. Look forward to going again. Wife and I went for our anniversary dinner. She heard about Knife and Stone on Facebook, i.e. "go now while they are in Newnan before they get popular and move to Atlanta...". We reserved our table through Facebook and learned that they designed their reservations to give guests around 2 hours of dining enjoyment (interesting...). We needed later dining and took an 8:15pm Saturday night reservation for two. We arrive early, 7:35pm, parking along the street was easy. The building is in the historic, downtown Newnan, GA area, 1 block from the main square. The facade is 1900s turn of the century-looking with red bricks and large tall windows with happy-looking diners, busy in conversation visible. Our anticipation is piqued and then enhanced further when we open the door to be greeted by an alluring, smoky scent, a hint of what was to come. Our table was still occupied (expected), so we sauntered over to the cute, rustic bar in the back of the place. 2 stools opened up and we sat. The bartender was busy but attentive and a football game on a single television was playing. The drink list was as unique as everything else here - drinks often include some type of burned or smoked ingredient. I ordered a Smoked Old Fashioned, which is a slight variation of the classic drink but with a twist - the bartender torched a wood pallet and turned an empty tumbled on top, capturing the smoke inside. After, she deftly flipped the glass over and poured in my drink to our delight, quite entertaining. Wifey had the Strawberry-Basil Martini, a deliciously-sweet concoction. Shortly after receiving our drinks and enjoying a few tastes, our table was ready. The bill for our drinks was migrated to our dinner bill without a fuss - we learned that all staff share tips as a team. Our place setting was as unique as anything else with white table cloth, a small, potted Succulent (green, cactus-looking plant), and engraved fork & knife leaning at an angle on our rolled up, cloth napkin. 3 menus were waiting for us: Tapas, Entrees, and Drinks. We observed that they were slightly different than those on the restaurant's Facebook page. Our plan was to order 4-5 Tapas and try a high variety of dishes which is exactly what we did. Belly and Beer, Scallops and Corn, Fritters, Lobster and Polenta, Bison Tartar, and Meatballs and Mezcal. Belly and Beer was served first and in an entertaining way, (I highly recommend ordring this memorable dish but do not want to spoil the fun). That was hands-down our favorite dish followed by the Lobster and Polenta, with the Scallops and Corn and Meatballs also delish. The Fritters were not a stand-out (relatively bland compared to the other dishes) and the Bison Tartar was not to my palate's liking: the delicate meat was overwhelmed by the garlic crouton-toast. This was the only dish that wasn't eaten fully or taken home. We will be back and we'll bring others because this is the kind of place that you want to be at with friends. read more

Went to Knife and Stone tonight with some friends from out of town and had a great time! The restaurant itself has a very great atmosphere. The food was excellent! My husband and friend had the ribeye and they both were very pleased. My other friend had the hash and he also was very pleased. Most of all I had the salmon and could not have been more pleased with my choice! We had a few of the tapas to share before our meals, goat cheese, the best and the beets on the salad was excellent, Last but not least, our server was a very up beat, polite and attentive young lady!! Even though my husband and I live in Newnan, we have not had the opportunity to eat at Knife and Stone before today, but this may have just become one of our favorite local restaurants!! My wife and I have been traveling across the United States after we dropped our daughters off at St. Louis University. We have eaten that many restaurants along the way; most of them very good so I'm just average. However, knife and Stone is clearly the best! We visited on the recommendation of friends and were profoundly underwhelmed. Sweetbread tapas was OK - fried but not greasy. Good thing there was honey mustard to give it some actual flavor. Scallops tapas was technically cooked to perfection, but NO FLAVOR/SEASONING (Zzzzzzzz. What? Oh, did I just have a scallop?!). Hubby had the ribeye ordered medium rare. It arrived COLD & definitely very RARE. The only reason it didn't bleed out on the table is because it was well rested. If you'd like a $45 gristle fest, run-don't walk to The Knife & Stone and order yourself a 50-day dry aged ribeye. It's sure to please. I ordered the saffron and sausage risotto. Question: did the kitchen run out of saffron and sausage? There were minuscule bits of sausage flavored pieces buried in the bland and mushy muck, but no saffron flavor to be found. The risotto was a bit grainy, and hardened bits are still stuck in my molars while I write this review. The water wench was unpolished and a bit discourteous, who addressed my husband and I as "you guys" and oh so promptly cleared our plates between courses before we even finished chewing our last bites. (It's a small place...maybe they needed to wash the dishes to use for another table?) $105 for dinner for two. No cocktails. Too much to pay for this pretentious little hole in the wall in downtown Newnan. On a positive note: our server, Tana, was good. She earned her $20 tip. We won't be back. read more

Whoa I don't even know where to begin. I don't normally eat at "fancy" joints like this one. I saw they had brunch on Sunday and it happened to be the last Sunday my Grandma was in town visiting. I called and made a reservation for 9. They got us in right at 11 when they opened. The staff was super friendly. The food was spectacular and worth the money. Even my husband who is usually a cheapo was very happy with our meals. He got the biscuits and gravy and I got the burrito. We split each so we could both try them. The biscuit was definitely made from scratch (delicious) and the gravy was perfect. It also came with home fries (potatoes cut up) and they were seasoned perfectly. The burrito was to die for. Sitting in a cheese sauce mixture with a splash of salsa the inside had egg, spinach, cheese, and sausage... YUMMY! Hit this spot for dinner this evening with a few coworkers, and I couldn't have been more pleased! This is not a huge place, so think about reservations, but that's worth it. Ambiance was cool, servers were friendly and the food was great. We had the scallops, the fried avocado, and the cheese curds to start, and everything was pretty good, but the scallops and the avocado were stand outs. Mains around the table were the cordon bleu, the 50 day aged ribeye, the pork chops, and I had the fillet. Everyone was very pleased with their choices. For me, the fillet was done perfectly, and was seasoned just right. Oh, the smoked old fashioned? Try one of those, too. I'll definitely be back! read more

First and foremost, I really wanted to post a 2-star review, but in honesty, this is not a 2-star restaurant. We went for the first time tonight, it being my wife's birthday. I called to make a reservation a couple of days earlier and left a voicemail. No big deal considering they don't open until 5pm. After not receiving a call back by about 7 pm the same day, I called the restaurant and made the reservation. The gentleman on the phone was apologetic for not the call not being returned and acknowledged that the reservation was for a birthday dinner. We got there right at the reservation time and were promptly led to our table. Our waiter was a bit slow getting to the table, but nothing worth complaining about. Our drink orders were taken, and and served reasonably fast, then he took our orders. We ordered one item off the tapas menu, plus our entrees at the same time. The tapas item was grilled watermelon and scallops. While the scallops were absolutely delicious, the grilled watermelon wasn't palatable to my wife or kids. I thought it was edible, but is not something that I particularly liked. The balsamic reduction, feta and greens (spinach, I think) was very tasty. One minor issue was there were several items not available from the menu (four, if I remember....one off the tapas menu and three off the main). My wife had curry shrimp that should have been served over rice, but they were out of the rice, so they offered two side dishes instead. The shrimp was okay, but was obviously missing the rice. Her sides were asparagus and mash potatoes. She enjoyed the asparagus, but said the potatoes were flavorless. My daughter probably had the best dish of the night. She had teriyaki chicken kabobs. She and my wife both liked it, however, I thought the sauce was so salty that it was almost unpalatable. My son ordered the smoked fried chicken with duck fried brussel sprouts, mushrooms and carrots. The chicken wasn't edible at all. The meat was extremely smoky, yet there was a crust on the outside that had a completely different flavor profile. No one at the table liked either the chicken or the crust. Neither the texture nor the flavor of the crust seemed to work well with the smoked chicken. The brussel sprouts and carrots were good (not great), but the mushrooms tasted undercooked. Finally, I had salmon with a cream sauce, plus brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. The salmon and sauce were actually pretty good, but the sides were simply okay. While the food was "okay," our biggest issue of the evening was the inattentiveness of our waiter. While the waiter at the table next to us was very charming and engaging with them, our waiter tended to be short and not available most of the times when we needed him. While I didn't want to judge him unfairly, we did notice him being very engaging with a couple of other tables, cutting up and joking, being very personable. I'm not sure what it was about us that he didn't like, but the experience that we had wasn't one that you would expect from a nice restaurant. Additionally, there was never any mention or acknowledgement of my wife's birthday. We weren't expecting anything special, but a simple "Happy birthday" from the waiter would have be greatly appreciated. In his defense, he did remove the fried chicken dinner from the bill when we told him that our son did not enjoy it. Lastly, the restaurant was actually very loud and there were multiple times when one person at our table couldn't hear the others talking. Summary: The food was okay, with a couple items being very good, but there was nothing that really blew me away (as I would expect from a fine restaurant). The drinks/wine/beer sections were all very good. The service wasn't good for us, but it is obvious that they do have good wait staff. We will most likely go back (I hate judging on a single visit to any place), but I'll have to admit I was really felt let down based all the other stellar reviews left by others. read more

Because the restaurant is small it's better for smaller groups. My wife and I went there twice... once the two of us went with another couple the second time with a group of 10. The noise level was too high for the the group. Update: had dinner again (August 3rd) and was terribly disappointed . I had a strip steak that was overpriced ..($54) for what I got. I ordered the steak to be cooked medium and it was served close to raw. I sent it back to the kitchen to be prepared as I had ordered. When they brought it back I was disappointed in the quality of the steak. Next the waiter we had was horrible... not sure what was his problem was but he was not a good waiter. Taking an evening and spending it at a table by the worn brick wall is a casual way to enjoy the finer dining of Newnan and finer tones with friends or family. A Knife and Stone failsafe is the "Smoked Airliner"! A delicate and tender smoked chicken with a sweet peach chutney on a bed of mashed potatoes with corn on the cob. The potatoes are always cooked and mashed to a beautiful, fluffy and light consistency! The smoked airliner chicken always has a nice, juicy feeling and has the wood smoked tastes throughout it. One of these days, I'll break down and try their "Smoked Prime". An item on the section of the menu labeled "Finer Fare". Inside of restaurant is unpleasantly loud. The building is built like a speaker box so I don't think there's much they can do about this. It would require hearing protection in most any other industry. The food was underwhelming. Some of it was pretty good but the steak was lukewarm and overdone. Staff and kitchen seemed out of sync. We really wanted to like this place. Most of the reviews were good with the few not so good thrown in. Well, all I can say it was so-so. I had the scallops tapas, which I thought were good. Tasty enuf. I also had a salad with vinaigrette, blue cheese, apples and pecans. Tasty but too much vinegar but can you really ruin a salad?! My husband had been wanting to try poutine for as long as I can remember after having seen it on numerous cooking shows. It looked good when it came out. But...the beef tenderloun meat tasted overcooked and had a burnt taste to it. The French fries, mozzelrella and gravy were okay. Sad...because we had high hopes for it. A bit overpriced. I first ate here a year ago and loved the food, especially the steak tartare. The smoked toast was a wonderful touch. The steak was cooked perfectly as were the sides. My daughter has since returned several times and has been increasingly disappointed in service and food quality. Tonight I was disappointed as the toast served with the steak tartare was not only NOT smoked, but was so hard to bite that it seemed like it was leftover bread from lunch, the fried cheese was too salty to eat and the mashed potatoes were barely warm. The scallops were good and cooked perfectly and the salad was good -well dressed and cold. The woman with the baby on her hip, greeting customers and assisting servers was a total turnoff as it cheapened the ambiance of the restaurant, especially since the food and drink prices are not especially low. Oh, and they need to ditch the plastic straws. I drove 20 miles to eat here, was very disappointed and won't be back. It's a shame; they could easily be a destination restaurant but with all that I experienced this evening, I don't see that happening. read more

Each time I've tried to call for reservations, either the phone number is incorrect that's listed for the answering system will not handle additional calls. I get the feeling this restaurant is trying to cater to a boutique clientele and environment, but just can't quite step up to the plate, no play on words. Again, the food is good, and maybe better than good, but service from the phone call for reservations, to the greeting upon walking in the front door, to the seating process and ultimate attention to detail at the table is lacking. read more
