I used to enjoy this place weekends late at night for a different vibe than all other downtown bars. But then I went here Saturday night around 1 am and was charged a $5 cover. When did they start that? Why? To kill off their business obviously. The door man told us we'd have to wait a few minutes to "clear some people out," so I'm thinking it's packed and poppin'. Cleared out, yes, poppin', no. Basically, I will return again only if: I'm too drunk to remember why I shouldn't go here or if I have a date I want to dance with alone on the dance floor. Or maybe take a dump in the bathroom since it's not too busy and I could have privacy. All three above scenarios seem unlikely, so I won't be back any time soon. read more

Knock has to be one of the coolest bars in the Harrisburg area, and I cannot wait to go back. I recently visited Knock during Harrisburg's parade day, after a long day of day drinking. My best friend, who lives locally, told us about the place. We were hesitant leaving the comfort of 2nd street, but we followed her down Pine Street and stopped at the entrance to "Madam Knock's Pine Street Beauty Parlor." After giving the bouncer the weekly password (this can be found on their facebook /knock.hbg, twitter @knock_hbg, or instagram @knock_hbg), we went up a flight of stairs and entered the Beauty Parlor. The Beauty Parlor was set up perfectly, and after giving the password one more time, the bookshelf vanished to the side.... and TA DA! We entered the Speakeasy, a whole new world. The music was pumping, the drinks were flowing, people were dancing, the lights were low, and we were in for a good time. The entire bar/ club has a Prohibition-era style fashion with dark hardwood floors, lots of purple, and chandeliers. The bar was located all the way to the back, which is also where the exit is. There is a dance floor in the middle, and centered is a DJ. There are a few seating areas in addition to the VIP sections. I think there was a total of 3 VIP sections which ran about $250 + per a night. The drinks were fruity and presented well- I wish I could comment on the price, but I really can't recall. The actual idea of this bar is is really cool.. You walk up stairs, after being IDed, then taken in to a room (styled like a cheap 20's salon) and they ask for the password. Once you give them the password that chances each night (password can be found on their Facebook). They open the a door with a shelve attached to it. It's cool... Then you walk in to the main room which is the dance floor and 3 private tables. The art and light is all really cool. BUT WTF. TRY GETTING AN OVER PRICED DRINK. the bar on the main floor was so packed we went to the up stairs smoking bar to get our drinks. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHO PUTS CARPET IN S SMOKING ROOM, but I digress... At this packed full bar they only have one bartender! ONE! It took FOREVER to finally get a drink and they weren't made great and they were expensive! Later in the night one of my friends brought a bottle and got a table. I join him for a few minutes just chatting and I noticed the VIP selection has no security, other people were walking in to the VIP selection uninvited and we had to fight them off. So... It was a cool idea, it was fun to go once but I don't think I will go back! Update to my review- went back with friends in a Friday night.. Around 10 it was still dead. Service still sucks. First off I can't help but to laugh at some of these reviews as a regular. Not really sure what some of these people are expecting. Second off $5 cover charge is nothing. If you can't afford that maybe you should get a job. I've been going to knock for awhile and every time is pleasant. The music is always good and the workers are very nice. Early in the night it's not too busy, but around 11-12 the crowd comes in. That's how a lot of clubs are. Not all, but a lot. Pretty good crowd especially in the fall/winter time. Summer time is a hit or miss, but let's be honest, the music is by far better than sawyers. Always have a good time here. Definitely my favorite place in downtown Harrisburg. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this location. Found out about it by a local bartender who recommended. I make it a point while travelling the country to visit speakeasys and this was one of my favorites. The drink prices were half of what I was expecting and the bartender was amazing. Friendly and prompt. My party got there when they first opened so we had the place to ourselves for a while but the DJ was awesome to. There was a 5 dollar cover Saturday which sucks but what can you do. I would definitely check it out. read more

This is part speak-easy, part night club. Almost an oxymoron, but this place is definitely a good time. The speak easy part is really the entrance off the main stretch, the walk upstairs to hair salon, the nightly secret password (found on Facebook I believe) that gets you inside, and maybe the cocktails. The rest is a pretty cool little night club type situation. They have a good size dance floor and a decent blend of music coming from the DJ booth. The decor is pretty cool and the place still looks new. The drink prices were a little high, but they were good. I loved the hefe weisse I had their, the Franziskaner. My favorite part of this place was probably the crowd. I usually hate the club atmosphere. I'm not a fan of dancing and I hate the type of people who frequent most clubs. To my surprise this was a great mix of all different kinds of people with one thing in common, they all just wanted to have a good time with their friends. I didn't see any of those creepy guys who just stand up against the wall and watch, looking like they're going to try and hit on someone's girl or start a fight. I didn't see any of that when I was there, which was awesome. When in Harrisburg and looking for a good time out with friends, this is a cool place to check out. read more

Everywhere else I go, when I buy bottle(s), no one walks thru my area and disturbs our private area. My party bought 4 bottles, yet the "bouncer" or whatever he was, said that he cannot stop people from walking thru the private area where we paid our hard earned money to reserve. He basically told me "tough shit." Make sure you go elsewhere to throw a party. I've been back a few times since and while I didn't reserve a vip area, I noticed that vip patrons did not have random strangers walking thru or sitting in their vip areas. read more

Went here for the first time last night after receiving many recommendations from friends. Looking online, the place seemed really cool, but upon going there, it was a total let down. The "dress code" is not enforced at all, and it's enforced unfairly. My boyfriend was not allowed entry because of his Timberland boots (that he just bought), but I saw men in there wearing t-shirts with beer logo's on them. Many of the women in there were steps away from a wardrobe malfunction. Another issue is that the music is way too loud & the music sucked. This was music you could not dance to; it was techno trash & most people were just jumping up & down and smashing into others. The music was at such a high level that you couldn't hear anyone speak, even when they were speaking directly into your ear. When we left half an hour later, my ears were ringing for 10-15 minutes & everything around me felt muted. It left like I had just left a heavy metal concert. Knock has great décor & the bartenders make wonderful drinks. This place has such great potential if they just turned down the music a little, got a better DJ, and enforced the dress code equally among all genders. Knock is a pretty cool place. I went with a local, who is a regular. You need a password to get in, however, you can usually find the password on Facebook. They change it often. It reminds me of an old speak easy. I love the old furniture they have in the little lounge area. The drinks are reasonably priced & the music is great with a dance floor full of people! Knock is by far the best club in harrisburg that I have been to and also the best speakeasy in all times. Its a must visit and a unique place. I have been to knock 4 to 5 times and I always had a good time here. Also the music here is on the beat and loud. I loved the experience and hope others love it too. Lolol this place is ridiculous. Have you ever been to another Ron Kamionka bar? Great, then you've been to this one, except this one is harder to find. The concept is great. The execution is terrible. Once you're past the coolness of "hey, I'm special and need a password to get in here" it's just another bar with crappy music and 21 year olds that are wasted and grinding on anything with a pulse. Oh, except that the drinks will cost you a little extra. By the way, this is far from exclusive. We followed in a group of people that were clearly way too drunk to be going anywhere else. Screaming, stumbling, etc. They got past the initial "oh you've found it" to the door person requiring the password. They didn't have one and fumbled around on facebook trying to find it. Again, clearly wasted. The bouncer said to just forget it and let them go in anyway. I imagine that was the case for 90% of the people in there. There was broken glass on the floor everywhere, you could barely hear someone an inch from you because the music was so loud, service was slow and, again, you can't move around without being gyrated on. Knock definitely sticks out in the area of the state. It barely advertises itself and it caters towards a different clientele than every other bar / club in the city. You won't find many of the otherwise frightening characters here that you would at other places just around the corner. Which is a GOOD thing. I went here on multiple ocassions with groups of people for the first time. Every single time they had no clue what was happening or were they were the first time they entered and we've always had an amazing time afterwards. If you like dancing and drinks this is the only place I recommend going in harrisburg. read more

"Go to Knock for negligent bartenders that force you to pay for drinks you did not order." I started going to Knock in January of 2015 after it opened and go there at least two weekends a month. I have never written a Yelp review, however based on the bartenders service last night I felt inclined to take the time to write a review. The atmosphere is of the era, but club like, however one bartender in particular is unable to remember who ordered what drinks at the bar. As a result of this negligence and after arguing with the bartender that I did not order the drinks, I was forced to pay for beverages I never ordered. Since I am a local I paid for the drinks as not to get black listed. I have never experienced such disregard for customer service in my life. read more

The tall bald bouncer told my boyfriend he had to take off his hat so he gave him his hat and then not even two minutes later the bouncer told my boyfriend that he was "too visibly intoxicated" yet he didnt do anything. We walked about a block away to figure out where we were going to go and as we were crossing the street the same bouncer came towards us and asked my boyfriend for his ID. GO here if you want to be profiled. The first time my husband and I went to this establishment he was told he could not enter because he was wearing a specific type of sneaker. It was funny because others around had on sneakers but got to enter anyway. Luckily he had a pair of dress shoes in the car to change into. If it were up to me I wouldn't have given this business my business but I was celebrating a friends birthday so I sucked it up. The night turned out to be just okay. Fast forward about 2 years later and we find ourselves again at this place to celebrate yet another birthday. My good friend had spent the money to get a VIP section which was the biggest joke of the night. There isn't anything special about a VIP section that anybody can have access to. There was no type of security or anything to make it feel secluded. There were several people that were putting their empty alcohol bottles and glasses on our chairs. To top it off because it does get worse, there were 2 entitled arrogant boys because they weren't men because men don't act that way, that decided to take a seat in our VIP section. When asked politely to get up they refused and became disrespectful. Nothing was done about it except they were told to stay away from our immediate area. So my disgust is in many aspects of this place. It's horrible. For one, don't call something a VIP section if anyone has access to it and secondly, don't enforce a no one type of sneaker policy just because the person wearing the sneaker was of a different skin color. I kept track of all the things I seen that night that should not have made it past the front door such as nike hoodies, vans, nike sneakers. It's PATHETIC that this is how a business can operate. I made the mistake of giving this place a second chance and to be honest it only got worse the 2nd time around. If i could rate 0 stars I would. This is not a speakeasy, this is a cheap dance club with a weird vibe posing as a speakeasy. It's loud and there is a DJ. What speakeasy has a DJ? Computers did not exist during prohibition. It is only open on the weekends so watch the hours.. it is a great place to end up after visiting the other bars to dance and party. No stars for this place from me. They charged my credit card for my order as well as for someone else's (which was a lot more than my own bill) and then told me they credited my card but never did. So I've heard some people say that they won't let you in if you're wearing Justin Timberland boots or something. I don't know what that is, it's probably something the kids like. You know what else the kids like? This place. I'm a bit too old to be here; it's certainly geared towards people in their early 20s, not their mid 30s. Of course that goes for any Ron Kamionka bar. That being said, if you DO fall into that demographic, this is one of the best places in the city to go to dance. Be warned: the crowd doesn't pick up until late, around midnight, but at that point it becomes a really fun place. It's packed, especially in winter, and the music is pretty excellent. I say that as a lover of techno music. This is one of the few places in the city where you can still dance and be in a nightclub environment. They do the theme of the 1920s very well also; the decor is really impeccably done. Two caveats: The dress code is spottily enforced at best, and the drinks are a bit overpriced, but at least you'll get a quality drink! So yeah, if you're into places that are full-on nightclubs and not just restaurants with the outside possibility of dancing, then hit this place up. read more

Super fun night at knock, a great place to dance and an adorable set up with their speakeasy feel...you must get their password on fb if you want to go, no, it's not hard to get but you do need to give it to the hostess at the "hair salon" to get in..she will then open the bookcase and let you through to the twenties style nightclub. Adorable costumes worn by staff and drinks were good. A fun place to dance or sit in a lounge section and relax, no smoking inside is a plus if that bothers you. read more

I used to love coming here however, this past weekend was the first time in a few months that I've visited and it was an awful experience. The first issue I had was the bouncer at the door who swiped my ID. My I'd went through the machine no problem. The bouncer held on to it however and kept looking from me back to the ID and in the most unprofessional, rude way, was not convinced that the ID was me and kept asking me if I had my hair redone etc. etc.. Granted the ID picture is going to expire at the end of the month, the hair color/eye color/height was all the same and what was listed on the ID and for the years I've been carded, used my ID at the doctors, for background checks etc. this has never once happened. My friends and I were very taken aback at the way the bouncer handled the whole situation but still proceeded upstairs. Once inside the room (after already saying the password) we were slammed with the cover fee. Having a cover is fine but not telling guests until they are basically trapped inside is not fine. We paid the fee only to stay maybe 30 minutes. The drinks were awful and overall the atmosphere was terrible. Such a shame since I used to love this place but it seems to have gone downhill. read more

So I go to Knock the one night. Get carded. Walk up the steps. The usual. While talking to a group of guys who were ahead of me the one turned to me and said he heard there is a cover to get in and that there is no one inside. Just as he finished telling me this the girl called us to walk in the parlor. Before even taking one step I asked her if there is a cover and she said yes. I asked how much and she said $5. All 7 of us walked back down the stairs and left. What a shady way to run a business that instead of informing people at the door where you are carded that there is a cover charge you make them find out after they walk up the steps and into the parlor to find this out? Is this the way you plan on strong arming people out of there money by getting them in a room with the doors closed and then telling them there is a cover charge so people have no choice but to pay? This is not only wrong but also very unethical? So I guess Club Knock is going to follow suit and charge cover charges now? If that's the case how about a sign out front informing people. If you guys are that hard up for money and need to charge people a cover to just walk in to your establishment I can buy you a sign from the Dollar Tree and hang it up on the back door for you.
