What an amazing restaurant here in Harrisburg! The interior is absolutely stunning. The service was top-tier. You enter into a stunning restaurant that has two levels. In the middle are three gorgeous chandeliers, and at the heart of it all is the bar. We were seated upstairs with a view of the downstairs and it was absolutely amazing. For starters we got the oysters which were delicious!! We're from Maryland so we're very judgy with our oysters, but these were great. We've have oysters that were not great out this way so we were nervous, but Rubicon delivered excellence! Next we had the truffle toast special and their octopus. What an amazing pair. The octopus was an absolute delight. It wasn't over cooked and the yucca it was served with was a great compliment to it. The toast was so light and rich at the same time. The truffle added such beautiful depth and complexity without being physically dense. For our mains I had the filet special with mushrooms and my partner had the lamb. Both were perfectly cooked, seasoned, and served. I'll be dreaming of the mushrooms that were served with my steak for weeks to come. We finished off our dinner with the dark chocolate lava cake and two espresso martinis. Both of which were stunning. The cake was moist and not too sweet like some chocolate cakes can be and the espresso martini was perfectly balanced. Rubicon is worth the drive if you're not local and worth the money if you are. Went to Rubicon to celebrate the valentine's day holiday and thoroughly enjoyed it! A stylish, tucked away in the heart of Harrisburg, Rubicon serves a mix of Italian, French, and Spanish style cuisine with fresh specials offered as well. My husband and I ordered the mussel appetizer which was delicious in the white wine reduction. The main meals consisted of lobster ravioli and a tagliatelle pasta. Though I felt the lobster ravioli needed a touch more of something or a bit of a kick, I very much enjoyed it! We ended the meal with a triple chocolate ice cream that was heavenly! Our server was excellent and kind and attentive to our needs. Though I am not usually a fan of a built in, mandatory 20% gratuity fee, the servers and staff definitely earned it and more! I've never been to Harrisburg but for my first fine dining experience here, I'm very happy to have gone here. The service was excellent, the ambiance is upscale but comfortable. We sat upstairs and got some apps and delicious entrees. I chose the duck after realizing how involved the chef is on selection and involvement on ingredients. There were four of us there for dinner last evening and the service was terrible! It took over an hour for our dinner to arrive and no one ever stopped by to check and see if we needed anything or apologize for the wait. Three of our meals finally arrived and we literally had to ask for the fourth meal when we were three quarters of the way finished with our dinner. Again, no apologies. The food is always innovative and flavorful, the ambiance is nice with two stories and the first floor var opening up to the top floor with high ceilings. The staff is wonderful and has gone out of the way to accommodate us , even though we have a small baby (newborn) and have been in several times for oysters by the bar. They have a great mocktail menu and it makes me feel good to go out and still have a nice fancy lady drink even when it's sans-alcohol since we don't really drink. Our waiter took our drink orders and told us the specials my wife chose the: Penne Penne pasta, maitaki and shiitake mushrooms, asparagus, white truffle oil, chive, light cream, parmigiano And I chose: Lumaconi Short ridge pasta, blistered tomato, roasted garlic, sauteed rock shrimp, arugula, molichie Both meals were delicious and we split a coconut flan for desert this was a very lighty flavored and topped with caramel sauce. Our birthday celebration dinner ended with a surprise offer to try a seashell shaped pastry called a Sfogliatella! Once this piece of the pastry hit our palates it exploded with flavor and texture. Our table spent 10 minutes trying to decipher and evaluate which spices or citrus' were in the custard inside. Five stars for the incredible food, drinks and service. Our party of four enjoyed cocktails and a Pinot Grigio wine that was superb to start off our evening of conversation, delicious food and nicely paced ambiance. My mussel appetizer was amazing with the white wine broth and dipping bread. Followed by the Grilled Tuna with Red Rice and a tomato reduction sauce. Dessert was a slice of Italian cake reminiscent of the layered almond rum cakes of my childhood. Yes, pricey... but save your money up to spend at this restaurant on special occasions as we did. It had been several years since our last visit to Rubicon and it was nice to see they are still amazing! This was just a quick visit to enjoy a "quality" cocktail and a snack at the bar, but it exceeded our expectation. The bartender is a master craftsperson, whose handmade cocktails are flavorful, unique, and are not watered down. My wife and I each tried one of the specialty drinks, her a Dj's Addiction, which was very good and a Guava Gool for myself. This was a bourbon based drink and being a person who enjoys bourbon, I'd never had a cocktail as balanced with flavors as this one. Just enough additions to complement the bourbon while still maintaining the baseline flavor! Delicious. While at the bar we shared their artichoke small plate with horseradish cream, which was just amazing! I could have eaten the whole dish myself. In addition to the amazing drinks and food, the bartender is great! Friendly, very welcoming, and contributed to our visit in a way that made us want to return in the near future! While visiting we decided to try a new place for dinner. Rubicon was one of the restaurants recommended to dine. One of the first things noticed was the beautiful decor and second story. Unfortunately we were advised that the air was not functioning optimally and while dining upstairs was an option it might be a bit warm. Opted to sit at the bar instead which was a good choice. Saw many good looking dishes come out of the kitchen and the bartender was pleasant and went through all of the dinner specials. Could tell there were some regulars there as the bartender was having some conversations and was quite in tune with what they wanted. While not being bothered is good trying to get attention when wanting to order another drink or when ready to order was a bit of a challenge. Was definitely worth the wait as it seemed to take quite a long time for the food to finally appear. Would have liked to have had something other than the entree itself. Some bread or crackers would have been a nice accompaniment with the meal. Felt like there could have been something added to complement the dish overall such as a vegetable or condiment. No business has the right to do this as a surprise . Zero transparency ! If I knew , I wouldn't have sat down . Again. I don't like confrontation.... However will absolutely not be back . I had high hopes for Rubicon. Rubicon felt a French gastropub, and the contemporary decor was absolutely beautiful. Walking in, it made me feel as if I was somewhere else and not in Harrisburg. The menu looked so promising. The wine list was very impressive, and they advertised "affordably luxurious" champagne at half price and a buck a shuck oyster for happy hour. A friend and I had dinner at Rubicon this evening. I was famished so I ordered a lobster roll and the beef tartare. Even though there were only a few parties, it took a long time for our food to come out. The lobster roll was flavorless. You just knew it was frozen lobster and the kitchen didn't even season it. The beef tartare was even worse. It was made from filet mignon but it might as well not be. What a waste of a good cut of beef. There was a weird, distinctive herb taste in the beef tartare that I could not put my finger on. It tasted like rosemary which does not belong in a beef tartare. The beef tartare also came with a side of cold Vichyssoise, which tasted sour and did not really enhance the dish. I would recommend skipping this one. read more

1st time. Did a prix fixe night in celebration of Rio and Carnival. Food was delicious. Starter for both was cheese bun with pimento guava butter and Portuguese sausage. Craig followed it with crab gratin - real lump crabmeat and excellent flavor. He then moved on to Seafood Stew that included shrimp, monkfish and mussels in a coconut milk sauce with peppers and tomatoes. I had palmitos - palm salad with mango and a wonderful passion fruit vinaigrette. I followed that with churrasco guacho which included picanha, sausage and pork tenderloin - the chimichurri was great. What an amazing dining experience at Rubicon! I'm from out of town and I have this place bookmarked. Why? Because they're offering a $1 Oyster happy hour along with Champagne?! French design influences along with a large bar makes Rubicon a fun spot to slurp some Oysters. The Champagne the bartender recommenced was great choice as well. It's summer and I noticed there are two Beaujolais choices? I had to ask the bartender what's up with the Beaujolais, he was a little defensive and said they're in the right to serve them. I mean, you can serve hot apple cider in June, it doesn't mean I'm going to be drinking it. I paid my tab and I noticed something, Pennsylvania doesn't change a tax for Alcohol???? Crazy man. Get congress to pass this law across the land now thankyouverymuch. I'm here for one thing, I'm a man on a mission. I want a nice French sizzling Steak Frites dinner. I place my order and away we go! My steak came back to me quickly. I have to give it to the chef, this cut was cooked perfectly. The french fries/frites had a coating on them, it was almost like a burger king fry? I went here for brunch with my husband about two weeks ago and we still talk about how delicious it was! I started with a mimosa and had the Garden of Delights Benny, which comes with Quinoa Cake, Cumin Scented Black Beluga Lentils, Smoked Grilled Trumpet Mushrooms, Poached Egg and a Coriander Yogurt Sauce. I'm pretty sure my poached egg had a generous dripping of hollandaise as well. I was skeptical about it at first, but my oh my does this entree pack flavor! The black beluga lentils actually smelled of cumin (gotta ask them how they did that) and the coriander sauce packs a punch! We also ended up ordering pancakes (cause yolo) and they were topped with delicious pear purée - something I haven't seen before enjoyed immensely. Heads up- they have a great tea collection as well that pairs well with the pancakes. Ended up consuming so many calories, but it was all worth it! Fabulous dining experienced last night at Rubicon! Always blown away by the interior, even after all these years. What a great job done on renovating this falling down building. Kudos, Qui! Service (thanks Drew!) was outstanding, helpful and professional. Those of you who follow me will know that I consider service to be the Achilles heel of Harrisburg eateries, so Rubicon is a much welcomed exception. Great selection of wine, beers and craft cocktails. I dined "off menu" last night except for the baker's dozen of delicious oysters. Balance of my meal were small plates specials: Tasty sauteed shishito peppers, grilled fava beans with a garlic aioli, and a tartine beignet, a slab of good grilled bread with a selection of delicious toppings. My dining companions had the house mussels with white wine, shallots and herbed butter, steak frites (substituting herbed mashed potatoes), and a seafood pho that looked incredible and received a rave review. Washed it all down with a Knob Creek Bourbon neat and an excellent TMI draft from Tattered Flag. (Birthday cake at home had us avoid the desert menu.) NY strip with a shallot compote and mashed potatoes piped in bone marrow. It was "chef's kiss" delicious! Definitely the best NY strip I've ever had in a restaurant (not usually my preferred cut). Started off with the baker's dozen oysters, which are always excellent here. The cheese-filled zucchini blossoms were a nice surprise. For the main course, I opted for the maiale, a grilled thick pork chop, which was super juicy and flavorful. My wife had the duck, which she ordered medium rare, but came out closer to medium well. It was still pretty good, but not as good as it could have been. We almost always stay for dessert, but we were not that excited about the available choices on this particular trip. The server seemed to have difficulty describing the options, at one point describing a dessert as a "danish-like thing," which certainly did not increase our interest in ordering it. I visited Rubicon around 6pm on a Thursday night so it was pretty quiet. The first impression was that the place is beautifully designed and very friendly host. The restaurant has a very pleasant and cozy environment with good choices of music. I ordered a Bake Dozen Oyster for the Happy Hour price of $12. Oysters tasted fresh, tasty, and the sauce that it came with, complemented it very well. I also ordered a Poulpe, which is grilled octopus salad. It's a small plate but it has a fresh mix of flavors. Sweet, sour, and crisp. It was a lovely dish. Besides Poulpe, I ordered their off-the-menu special, which is called Ribeye-con i believed? It's fall of the bone ribeye accompanied by small crepes, lettuce leaves, pickled onion and carrots, and mustard sauce. The meat was so tender, juicy, and flavorful. It's a make-your-own-crepe kinda plate and everything blends beautifully together one bite. Cocktails are average price and they taste good. Service was great and fast. I really enjoy dining at Rubicon and i would definitely recommend this place for a nice date, or just simply for a good dinner. read more
