This place is hopping! I stayed at the Canopy and enjoyed dinner at the bar during my first night. Located on the 8th floor it was convient and provided for great views from the bar and the rooftop lounge. I sat at the bar since I was a party of one and didn't want to take up a whole table, wasting valuable seating space they needed. The bartender was quite busy but was very pleasant the entire time. He was prompt with my tonic, cranberry and limes - I had two and wasn't charged! I thought that was amazing. I have always paid for those drinks anywhere else I have gone. I had the Uitsmijter - which is an Open Face, Seared Ham, Blistered Cherry Tomatoes, Saffron Pickled Pearl Onion, Two Fried Eggs, Dark Rye Bread, Aged Beemster Gouda - This was AMAZING!!! I loved every bite of it. When it's busy - it gets very loud in the space. It triggered a decibel warning several times while I was there. We were staying at the Hilton Canopy when an unexpected snow storm came through. Neither of us were really dressed for it so we wanted to stay nearby. We were so fortunate to find out that Knoop is a rooftop bar right in the hotel! Often times hotel bars are boring. But like this unique hotel, there was nothing boring about Knoop! The walls close for the winter, but there is outside seating in the summer. There were some beautiful views and also private seating. The snow gave this an even more warm and romantic feel. This is the fourth or fifth time I've been here. I arrived on March 2nd at 9:45pm. Sat down at the bar it took 10 minutes for the bartender to come over to help me. He then proceeded to tell me the kitchen was closed. It's open till 11. Why is the kitchen closed before 10. Also, food was still coming out. Slap in the face, I have been in here at 11pm before and have seen people still finishing food. This is one of my normal spots to hit while in town for work, Not anymore after this. Talk about a hidden gem! Knoop has changed quite a bit since they first opened, but it's such a cool, vibey spot. Located on the 8th floor of the Canopy by Hilton hotel, it boasts a "rooftop bar" which is more like an outdoor patio, but I'll take it. The decor and theme is Scandinavian and modern which is unique and fun. The menu is quite a bit different and unfortunately they got rid of the bluegill which I really loved. However, they have a nice selection of delicious-sounding plates. My review is focused on their new Sunday brunch, which just started on May 21, 2023. I believe it's going to be every third Sunday (previously they weren't open on Sundays). I highly recommend reservations as the space isn't huge. They advertised the brunch as a buffet for $25 and a $10 cover charge, which would get you a drink. I'm not really sure why they wouldn't just say $35 per person which includes a drink, but either way, I think it's a great price. We opted for outdoor seating which was really lovely. You can get either a mimosa or a bloody Mary for your included drink option. The buffet had a nice spread of mostly savory items including frittata, hashbrown casserole, bacon, biscuits and gravy, shrimp and grits bites, hot honey chicken, peaches and cream parfait, and fried bread pudding. Everything was really good and I definitely ate my money's worth! DJ AB was playing some awesome music which gave it a bit of a party vibe. Maybe 3.5 stars, but because of a slight edge in ambiance, we'll round it up to 4 stars. This place has a rooftop restaurant/bar vibe in Downtown Grand Rapids. The space is half-outdoors/half-indoors, thought the doors separating the areas was wide open so you sort of got that outside vibe if you're not seated outdoors. The menu had some fun puns and names for entrees, but it felt like things were a bit pricier than what you got for them. Not that it tasted bad, but I was just expecting a little bit more considering the price tags. The drinks weren't your usual run-of-the-mill fare, and I think they were worth their eleveated cost compared to the food. Overall, come here for the ambiance and decent but (in my opinion) slightly overpriced food. Review is based on drinks and ambiance only. Yes it's a hotel and a rooftop so I expect to pay $$ for drinks but $42 seems steep for 2 drinks at this place. All of tables are chipped some very large chips and most of the wood furniture was peeling or damaged. The TV lounge area was super dusty the cable box looked like it had not been dusted in years. The wall of delft plates made me think of my Grandma and gave me all kinds of nostalgia I'm sure that's not what the draw is for most people- so let's talk about the view! It was SNOWIN yesterday, but we had a great view of the city from our cozy table indoors! Besides the view, this cocktails are also Knoop's main selling point! We tried a few of their seasonal cocktails, including the Basic Witch, Apparently Pears, O Pecan Kenobi, and the Ji-Ji-Jitterbug! They were delicious, and, as you can see from the photos, beautiful! For food, we ordered the Knoop Pretzel, the Wagyu Sliders, and the Korean Fried Chicken Bao. The pretzel was fluffy and delicious (and the beer cheese was great!). I have never had a saltier piece of steak in my life. It was a complete waste of $40. Most, but not all of the drinks that I have had were really really good. If you can get a seat out on the balcony that's definitely in the place to be oh, because the views are really good and it's really comfortable. First time checking out this spot. It was a bonus to learn they validate parking because it's in a busy part of downtown. Definitely a fun atmosphere but also very busy so it gets a little loud. There were some birthdays and bachelorette parties being celebrated while we were there. The restaurant is on top of the canopy hotel and has pretty nice views of surrounding downtown area from its 8th floor. Seasonally the patio portion was closed but would definitely like to return on a warm summer night. Decent selection of drinks for beer/wine and even had cider and seltzer options. The food menu was smaller selection and I think the idea is most are shareable type plates however the portions are definitely bigger than a tapas style. Our server was Amanda and she did great answering our questions and giving her recommendations on menu items; and of course was efficient and friendly in keeping us relaxed and our cups full! Everyone in our group was hungry so we ALL actually got the It's a Smash : which is just burgers and fries. The burger was extremely tasty though with a rush of flavors from the queso cheese, jam, pickles and bacon fat mayo which all paired together perfectly. Swung by around 6:00 on Saturday figuring it might be a long shot that we could get a table. Fortunately they were able to seat us right away on the rooftop patio! I was hesitant about sitting outside since it was still a bit chilly, but they have heaters above the tables that actually kept it quite pleasant. It did start raining right as we were paying our tabs though, and it's not covered, so that would've been a challenge. We got lucky on our timing. They are located on the 8th floor in the Studio Park complex. The restaurant is really cute inside, and the views from the patio are wonderful! You can see so much of the city. It was chilly when we were there, but I imagine it's wonderful in the summer. My cousin and I split the Philly cheesesteak sandwich and fries, which was a special for March. I'm a little sad it was a special because I would definitely go back for it! We ordered it with the aioli on the side and at first it came out with aioli, but our server took it right back and put in for a fresh one for us. The sandwich was a good size for us to split. The meat was flavorful and not too fatty. I appreciate that they use red and green peppers, not just green. The cheese sauce isn't my favorite, but I don't love liquid cheese. The Hop Salt fries are REALLY good! The salt is big - like soft pretzel rock salt. So good! They didn't seem to have a huge beer list, but we were both able to find one we liked. Organized a small work happy hour at this venue. The atmosphere is awesome! It's on the top floor of the Hilton canopy. The event organizer put us in this cool semi private area off of the bar. There an extensive cocktail list and a menu of shareables and a few plates. We enjoyed several different cocktails and had the pretzel, sliders w/fries, chef's board, and poutine. The hamburger sliders were excellent as well as the fries. The chef's board was pretty tasty but the presentation could have been better than arranged on a regular plate. Our bartender Nick was excellent and very attentive but not overbearing. This was a first for everyone in our group, and everyone was pleasantly surprised and thought what a cool space. Great rooftop bar at studio park! These are much needed in GR, Can't wait for summer to come back and enjoy the views! The menu at knoop is small but there is variety. You get a little bit of everything from the perspective of light bites to solid dishes. We order 3 items and shared. The service was great! I really appreciated the manager coming around a few times to check on us and also build rapport. That was nice and definitely makes me feel appreciated. My favs: Lobster quesadilla- ok I like fusions, but sometimes they can be too over the top. I was skeptical but I went for it. I'm glad I did because it was light and full of lobster. I thought it was going to be drenched in cheese, but it had lots of veggies and was served with a nice chipotle sauce. Chef board- I wasn't a fan of this. Didn't like the prosciutto, it seemed liked it wasn't fresh. The mustard was really good, zesty and spicy. I also liked the honey and the goat cheese. The rest of the meats were eh. Won't get this again Stamppot-wow! Loved this dish, classic Dutch meal made with love. We ordered one to go for my daughter because she loves mashed potatoes. The sausage was really tasty. The view is the best behind the bar, but it's still cool to see our city from the top floor. We saw groups sharing meals over little coffee tables while sitting at couches, which looked ridiculous. Knoop is 8 floors up, offering expansive views of downtown. GR is a handsome city. Its interior could be described as coldly Nordic, honey colored noise- amplifying wood panels. It's a strange thing to include, but even if you don't need to, check out the nifty bathrooms. The menu is small, food is nicely plated and tasty. The hush puppies are flavorful but under crunchy. The pretzel flight gave me my first time trying house made mustard; pretty good, less bitter than the normal stuff. Our fave pretzel flavoring was the siracha. The ribs were perfectly crisped, and were not drowned in the tangy BBQ. They are also chunky. Our food and drinks showed up quickly, but we had a very long wait after eating before our person checked in with us and it was another wait for our check. The place was hopping, and our waiter had a 12 top & had to pitch in at the bar. We felt bad for the guy, but my gosh the post eating wait. The only thing better than Knoop's cocktails are the 10/10 vibes it serves up. It is the perfect place to kick back with some friends. The seating is so fun and decor is funky fresh! I don't think you can go wrong with any of their cocktails, either. I do have to knock off a star because the handful of times I have visited the bar takes a loonggg time to serve drinks. Although - it works out because the slow service just gives you more time to soak in the views. When I went, it was too cold, so they didn't have the rooftop open, but will definitely go back to chill in the summer night vibe. Ordered a cocktail and sangria, with the charcuterie board. I was SO looking forward to trying Knoop for the first time! I had made a reservation via OpenTable for 2 people for a Birthday dinner, I realized the day of the reservation that I had made it for a week later! I called and spoke with the Manager, Nick, and explained my mistake to him, he graciously got us a table even though OpenTable said they were booked. We arrived the day of the new reservation and we were seated right away. We were super impressed with the fun decor, open air, decor, etc. Such an awesome space! Great views and visually appealing interior! We were seated at a two top, very close to the bar. We sat at our table for 20+ minutes without a greeting, water, menu, anything. The restaurant was busy, so we gave them some grace... but realized at 20 minutes that this wasn't going to go anywhere so we decided to cut our losses and head somewhere else. When walking out, we were stopped at the host stand by Nick, who said he noticed we had been there a while and apologized for our wait. He, again, graciously offered to send over an appetizer as a peace offering. We accepted and headed back to the table. We chose the Chef's Board and thought it was decent. Not a ton of each item on the plate, definitely not a board you could share with more than 2 people. I got the Lobster Quesadilla because I love anything lobster! Just.. good? I was hoping for more of a lobster roll in quesadilla form... but it was good. Hubby got the burger and said if was fine. The menu is SMALL... not a ton of variety. We didn't venture into the cocktail menu, which I wish we would have - hubby stuck with beer and I had wine. I was happy to see two chardonnay options! The thing that put us off was the speed of service and the attention we received. Like I said, it was busy so we always give grace for that. Located on top of the Canopy hotel, we walked in with a party of 6 on a Saturday night and were seated right away, even though we were supposed to make a reservation. While Knoop does not actually have a ton of outside seating, they have large bay windows all around that bring in a ton of light. You can also easily look out of the windows and overlook parts of Downtown GR. I like that they went with a wood aesthetic; it makes the space feel homey, but also enlarges it because it lets in so much light. Most of our table got the Energizer since we are huge fans of coffee. I will tell you right now that the drinks here are dangerous, because you can't taste a lick of alcohol in these cocktails. If I didn't have Asian Glow, I probably would have thought that they forgot to put alcohol in my drinks. Since we came from eating dinner at 123 Tavern, we didn't order any snacks or entrees.
