Atwater has a real casual atmosphere. Not sure if it's open seating at all times of the day, but coming in around 8:00 pm, the restaurant is open seating for patrons. I did not try the food but opted for the Bees Knees gin drink, made with Atwater's distilled spirits. The drink was yummy, which was a pleasant surprise since I usually don't enjoy gin all that much. They can open several large windowed walls, which expose the space to street access, which has a neat feeling being downtown. Amazing experience! Walked in on a beautiful weekday afternoon and had some great sunny seating. Ambiance was great with good music and TV access and there's a whole other side with games Bartender was amazing: sampled me more than I even asked for (off menu Hazelnut version of the VJP) and I was able to enjoy that plus their flagship wheat (better tasting Blue Moon) with a delicious smash burger. Thurs-Sun they do an excellent lunch special: entree of the day side, and beer for $14! Bartender also honored my 50% off drinks deal on Craftapped so the service was super clutch. We stopped in on a whim and had an amazing experience. The food was great, restaurant was clean & cute but the service was really what made the experience. Maggie went above and beyond at every opportunity even though it was busy. We had two little girls with us and she made them the cutest drinks with edible glitter which was really the cherry on top. Love the vibes here! Came here with my friends for a few brews and some appetizers and had a great time! The atmosphere at this brewery is very lively and fun, the staff's energy absolutely matches that. The server/bartender was super friendly, energetic and fun! As far as the brews go, this is by far my favorite brewery I've had so far in Michigan, their beers are excellent! As far as the appetizers go...gotta try the tator tots. #33 on our Hundreds of Hops This was a terrible stop to end our night on. I'm actually looking forward to hitting the Detroit one to compare because we were excited for this one. There were 3 of us. One other couple was seated and left shortly after we arrived. There was also a takeout order at one point. Strangely dead in there for a drinking day, especially when every other place we visited was packed. We sat at the bar, were handed menus & the guy gave a few suggestions, then disappeared. We never saw him again. Another guy was working & even with us having empty glasses and attempting eye contact, he wouldn't even look our direction. We were planning to order food after getting our drinks, that didn't happen. Eventually, we left some money & headed elsewhere. Even great beer wouldn't bring me back into this establishment, not that it matters, as the beer wasn't great. It wasn't terrible but not great either. Service, now THAT was terrible. Partner and I stopped in for a beer and ended up ordering some wings and tots as well. First, I absolutely loved the atmosphere!!!! Loved the theme, everything was '3.13' or '6.16'. Really fun place and Brandon was our bartender-loved loved loved him! Must admit, the wings were definitely not the best. Wasn't a fan, but the tots were amazing. Came here before a concert at The Intersection and had a fantastic time! The inside feels very warm and lively. They games and televisions for entertainment and also have a great amount of space to accommodate! The service here was some of the best I've ever had at a brewery, the server was friendly and very knowledgeable on what he was serving! As far as the food goes, I just had a side order of their tots with some ranch and mustard (definitely gotta try their homemade mustard) and it was the best I've ever had! Snagged the happy hour deal! M-Th, 3pm - 5pm A pint and fried pickles or a pint and pretzel bites for $10! Husband got the pretzels, I got the fried pickles! The fried pickles came as chips, which made it great for finger food. We didn't run the risk of having the breading completely fall off in the first bite. The pretzel bites were like soft, hot puffs. For my beer, I chose the double chocolate mint decadent. 8% beer, not too stouty, very light mint flavor. For entrees, I got the pub burger and my husband got the wrap. My burger ended up being a bit dry; I should have asked for it to be cooked medium rare. Husband said his wrap tasted fine. Service was great! read more

The place was dull, the food was less than mid, the location is really inconvenient if you're getting around in your own car. The variation of beer was the only highlight. I don't have any interest in going back. I'd recommend for people to spend their money elsewhere downtown that's more worth it. read more

Went to Atwater Brewery GR during a business trip. Atmosphere was not very good. Pretty empty and boring. 2 bar tenders were somewhat attentive but they were busy talking to other patrons for a long time. Ordered mushroom pizza which was good but was premade elsewhere and not homemade - just reheated. Also had a side salad with Blue cheese dressing. Not cold and most of the lettuce was wilted. I had a Dirty Blonde ale which was also just okay. Would I go back? Probably not. Could be a great place but no TLC. read more

I took my family and parents out this weekend for a quick dinner and our love of Atwater's beers made this a natural decision. The cooks and servers were absolutely amazing and as attentive as they could possibly be. The restaurant is so unbelievably short staffed and had posted signs on the walls that explained how they had to adapt by implementing a system where diners have to order food and drinks at the bar - though this led to even more confusion, delays and disorganization (which is what prevents me from going to 5 stars). The beer and food were very tasty, but a tad overpriced for the quantity. I am hopeful that another system can be implemented before I return again because I really love Atwater and want them to succeed. Here's hoping! read more

This was the second or third time I had been here, and it did not disappoint. Despite the all-too-common staffing shortage in the service industry, a couple different staff members were more attentive to my needs than I was expecting, which made the experience that much better. I ordered the Classic Mac n Cheese and the Dry Cider. The food was as good as any (mostly) plain mac n cheese, but the CIDER was close to the best dry cider I have had to date. (I only wish they sold it in stores or that I had thought to ask if they have it to go.) The restaurant was much slower than I expected for a Friday night, though that likely had to do with it being a holiday week. Just the same, there was a relaxing feel to the place which had much to do with its casual environment that a solo diner, such as myself, much appreciated. if you love waiting an hour for burnt food than this is definitely the place for you! I have never given a food review but I felt compelled to do so. Told us it would be a 25 minute wait for food which we were fine with, but that turned into an hour. I will say the fries and pretzel bites were very good but that's it. I don't ever write reviews but I found it bizarre that this is what they serve to customers. The chicken tenders and chicken in the caesar wrap were extremely burnt, cold, and we couldn't eat it it was so bad. Server was extremely nice and said that they could make another round but we had to be back at a cheer competition and we did not have the time to wait another hour for new food. We asked her if she could just take off both items off of the bill that were burnt, the chicken tenders, and chicken caesar wrap, and she did take both items off of the bill when we asked. Also we did see fruit flies at the end of eating. I have never given a review before, but this was one of the worst dining experiences me and my family have had. read more

Stopped in here on a work trip as it came recommended. It was a Wednesday night and there were only a couple other tables. There was one bartender working and no one else in FOH. He was friendly enough. We were a table of 4 and let him know we were visiting. He didn't make any recommendations for beer or food. We ordered several appetizers and a couple sandwiches. Food came out pretty quick and was actually really delicious. I didn't try beer but it seemed okay, although not remarkable from comments at the table. In a town surrounded by other breweries, Atwater was good but didn't stand out. On the way out I thanked him and said everything was delicious and we got a kinda snarky response of "well you ordered almost everything on the menu so I would hope you found something you like".
