I've been wanting to check out this place for a while as I saw it had really good ratings. I was meeting my family for lunch and we decided to give this place a try. This is a small restaurant, but there are about a handful of tables to sit at. We placed an order for fried zucchini, a gyro and chicken souvlaki platter. The food arrived pretty quickly and everything looked really good. We did notice that one of the salad dressings we ordered and utensils were missing. We also requested some water, but were told it was unavailable (?) We noticed another table had some and was slightly confused by that. Overall, the food was okay. The only stand out for me was the fried zucchini. It was crispy and cooked well. I thought the platters lacked a depth in flavor compared to other places I have been. Was craving some Greek food, and since this was close by, I had to give this place a try. The Food: I had the gyro platter, and it was delicious! The meat was cooked nice and tender, the fries were crispy. Everything paired very well together and was seasoned well. The portions were generous too. The Service: I ordered takeout for this time, and was greeted immediately when I walked in. Food was made on time, and I came slightly early too. The Atmosphere: Not that much seating inside, but that's alright. It looks like this place caters mostly to the take-out crowd. But it was nice and well kept inside. Overall, a 4/5. About a 1-1.5: I'm sorry, but I'm not sure where the other rave reviews are coming from. Our experience at Knossos was just not good at all. We came here for an early lunch, and we ordered: +Fried Zucchini - served with tzatziki sauce +Falafel - came with 3 pieces; served with tzatziki sauce +a Gyro Platter - came with sliced gyro, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and tzatziki sauce; you can choose 2 sides, in which I opted for the fries and the rice pilaf The fried zucchini was okay, as they were fried fresh-out-of-the-fryer; the tzatziki sauce didn't really work with this, but it was a decent app. The falafel was overfried, so they were just super hard; the taste was off, and was just not worth getting as an app. Gyro is one of my favorite foods, but Knossos' version was inedible; I did request the gyro to be well-done/crispy, but it came out as a limpy, soft mess - not sure what brand of gyros they use, but it ain't it. The fries were overfried, so they were hard, and the pilaf seemed to be ill-prepared - it was bland and not tasty. You go up to the cashier and put your order(s) in, and they'll bring them out to you; there are 2 tables available to dine-in, which one set seems to be combined for larger groups,, so it's a little tight. Went to Knossos today, first time and I shall return!!! So good and FRESH! I ordered the Gyro platter, came with two sides, my wife got the Vegetarian platter, also comes with two sides. My platter the Gyro meat was tasty and fresh, trimmed right off the spit when you order, not like some places that cut it then put in a steamer until you order and then grill it and dry it out. The salad was mixed greens with tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and onions, the vinaigrette was great. My other side was French fries that were crispy and flavorful. My wife's platter was just as good, it had falafel which wasn't dry, red pepper hummus, dolmas, tomatoes and cucumbers. Her two sides were rice and fries, all good. Been meaning to go since they open ... what stopped us was their limited seating area! They have 3 tables... 2 four tops and one for 6. So obviously they are gathering to a take out crowd... we are more eatin! But today hubby wanted gyro so perfect time to finally stop in. I was in the mood for a salad but a SIMPLE yet GOOD and FILLING salad and I've typically found that Greek salads do the job so I decided to give Knossos a try. Upon scanning the menu I was happy to see they had a few different salad options and the Knossos Salad spoke to me so I decided to order it with extra cucumber and extra tomatoes (at no additional charge which was pleasantly surprising). The salad came along with pita bread but I am a sucker for genuine tzatziki so I also added on an order which also came with pita bread. When the order arrived I could immediately tell it was going to be DELICIOUS and I was excited to eat! To my suspicion the salad was absolutely tasty and filling and fresh fresh fresh! And that tzatziki was 100% authentic and the presentation was a nice touch with it being served in a little lettuce cup. This will not be the last time I order from Knossos and it just may become my go to when I'm in the mood for salads or healthier Mediterranean options. read more

Ewwww, so whatever you do avoid this place unless you like to be very disappointed. Also the person who takes your order on the phone for lack of better words sucks at customer service and would not surprise me if he simply forgot to add the spices in. The chicken shawarma I got tonight I would not give to a sick dog it was that gross. Unbelievable, how does this place have a few stars? The chicken needs flavor or spices and I think it was just the most bland tasting overpriced meal I have ever had in this area. The place smelled like it had potential and boy I was wrong. I bought carry out from Knossos today. I got the Gyro and Chicken Shawarma. The Gyro is tasty and the lettuce, tomatoes, and onions were cut to edible sizes. The Tzatziki sauce was not over powering. The portion size of Gyro could be a little bit more given the price. The Chicken Shawarma was different than ones I have tried before. Knossos were shredded making the chicken and bit on dry side. Knossos is a wonderful restaurant tucked away on Elden next to the 7-11. Absolutely delicious food! I am always on the hunt for some authentic gyro and this hit the spot! We got wings, which were probably one of my favorite wings ever. There's a delicious red sauce that it's drenched in and I wish I could pour it on anything. Falafel was fresh and crispy. The knossos platter has gyro and chicken soulvaki and both were so good, tossed with the tzatziki sauce. This will definitely be my go to place for greek food. Props to Yelp for introducing me to Knossos Restaurant this afternoon. Open since last November, this gem of a place managed to elude me, but was serendipitously at the top of my search results today! After a brief introductory talk with Ali, he suggested the Knossos Platter. I wanted to taste the lamb & beef gyro as well as the chicken shawarma, so this platter was the perfect choice. It came with pita bread, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and rice. If there's insight to be gleaned from my write up today, it's that the gyro meat is mind-blowingly tender, fresh, moist, and tasty. Drizzled with tzatziki sauce, I couldn't wait to take the next bite, and the next, and the next. The lettuce, tomatoes, and onions were a light, delicious medley to complement the meats. The pita bread was nice, warm, soft, & fresh. I also ordered 3 wonderfully crispy, delicious pieces of falafel, which certainly did appetize. One reviewer mentioned that he regretted not going over his calorie allotment and deciding against the chocolate chip cookie. I made no such mistake and tried the cookie. It was a decent-sized cookie and was fresh, soft, chewy, and just the right "pliable" texture that I love. The service was great! Ali patiently answered all my questions (as a first time patron, I had a few) and helped me decide on my order with confidence. He pleasantly allowed me to keep adding items to my order since everything on the menu slideshow looked enticing. Full disclosure: I do have one regret about Knossos Restaurant. It is so great to find a Mediterranean restaurant that has a gyro machine. Everywhere else seems to have those frozen, factory, ovals of disappointment. This place understands that if you want to pull out all the flavor you have to cook the meat on a rotisserie. You get those nice char parts, and the juicy parts. This place knows that doing it right leads to the best results. There is a lot on this menu. I went for an appetizer and the traditional gyro. Everyone was so kind and helpful. This being my first time I needed to orient myself to the menu, and they helped me by answering a couple questions. It is so nice to go to a restaurant where you don't feel like you're interrupting the cashier's side gig as a TikTok inspector. Here they were patient and attentive and I appreciated that. I felt like I could explore the menu. I think should have gotten a cookie. I was really tempted. They looked great. Technically I was already going over my calorie limit for the day, and there is a limit to the amount of guilt I can justify from one dinner. If you are reading this before you order, do me a favor and get a cookie and tell me what you think. Are they worth the guilt? This is without question my go to place for gyros. We decided to check this place out on a Saturday afternoon as we love Mediterranean/Greek foods. The place seemed a bit quiet when we got there, but then customers started coming in and out soon after. We decided to order: hummus with pita bread; chicken souvlaki platter with rice & fries; and chicken shawarma sandwich. The hummus was delicious and the pita bread was warm--but they only gave us literally 6-8 small, triangular pieces of the pita bread which was not enough to eat all of the hummus nor to enjoy with a full extent. So my husband ended up having to order another round of pita bread. I think it would be nice for them to reconsider the amount of bread v. hummus for the future. The food itself was delicious and wouldn't mind coming back if we were near the area. I would much prefer the chicken souvlaki over the shawarma, but that's up to personal preference. Side Note: 1. There is not a lot of seating inside the restaurant. I think there are total of three tables. Luckily, we were one of the only customers when we were there, so didn't have any problems seating ourselves. 2. You order the food, and they'll bring the food out to you. You also don't need to clean after yourselves, which I thought was nice considering it's not a full service restaurant. 3. There's no public restroom (it was stated near the entrance). 4. Discovered that Knossos had opened via a mailer coupon. I was very excited, since I remembered liking the place in Vienna. Always happy to find a good gyro place, and was excited that Knossos was opening in Herndon. Tried it today and was not disappointed. Easy location just off of the Fairfax County Parkway and Elden Street (aka Baron Cameron). Friendly, fast service and the portions were perfect. I had the gyro and the wife had the falafel. Both were as good as we hoped/expected/remembered. We will be back soon. We went for the first time today after finding it on Yelp and with a high rating. The parking lot is a little busy at lunch time, but we did get a spot. The restaurant is bright and clean when walking in. Only 3 tables right now, but each table seats at least 4 -6 people. We were greeted upon entry, went up to order. The food that was cooking smelled delicious. The older gentleman that took our order and served our food was very kind and helpful. We both got the gyro platter (comes with 2 sides) and we did the appetizer of the stuffed grape leaves. All of the food was fantastic. we both got a salad as a side and the lettuce was really fresh. to the point that my husband wanted to know where they got their lettuce as we haven't been able to get lettuce that fresh at the store in some time. I did the rice (highly recommend) and my husband did the fries (which were also very tasty). The gyro meat..... wow, just wow. And the pita it came in, really fresh. We also got to try the baklava and that was a very nice close to the meal with. they tell you they will clean the tables when you are done, and throughout our meal they came to ask how things were and if we needed anything. I visited Knossos with my family for the first time and we loved the food. The variety of food is great (even if you have some picky eaters. They have you covered!) and they make their own sauces which really makes a huge difference in the taste. The owners come from a long line of Greek food restaurant experience and you can taste it! The restaurant is run by family and you can tell they care about the quality of the food and of your experience while dining. Service is excellent- family owned and they care. Gyro is authentic and 10 out of 10. Fried are only ok, they are the less expensive ones used by Popeyes, Burger King, Roy rogers. Not as good as 5 give fries, or McDonald's shoe string fries. They try to make them better with some light spices. Eat them fresh hot for best results. I ordered the lunch special with a gyro and got the best gyro I've ever had. The pita bread had a lot meat and less other fillings than other restaurants.
