Their Cobb salad is the best that I ever had. They lose a star for having music that is much too loud, making conversation difficult. Also while their salads are excellent, they should be served with bread. I requested bread to go with my salad, the only thing they had available with store-bought white or wheat. It was unappetizing. It is my opinion as a former manager at a fine dining restaurant, that entree salads should always be served with homemade bread or rolls. The service is friendly, but only adequate. I had to request a refill for my tea, sugar for the tea as well, and was not asked if I would like dessert, instead, I was simply brought the bill. With these improvements, this restaurant should be at 5 stars. read more

Good burgers, great bear selection (bottle not draft) and good service. The restaurant is small, so call before you walk in with 6 people.

2nd trip here and both visits were great. Would be a 5 star but we ordered our fry's crispy both visits and the 2nd visit they were not even close to crispy. Not a big deal except first visit they were excellent. BBQ ribs special were delightful . Recommend you stop if in the area read more

The atmosphere was great. The bar was really cool to be in. We just had a rehearsal dinner there and it was accommodating enough but not a place I would choose for something like that. Our waitress was ok. My glass sat empty for a very long time. She literally filled all the glasses around me and just..didn't get mine. I had to track her down to get a new pop. Other than that she was good. I had a buffalo chicken salad that was just mediocre. My husband had the broncho burger, I believe, and really enjoyed it. We talked about going back for a normal meal someday so we definitely enjoyed it. :) read more

Was excited to try this little Cafe. Went in for the first time today for lunch. Walked in and immediately loved the atmosphere...that was the only part I loved, and the only reason for 2 stars. The service was good but the food was awful. I ordered the black bean burger with a side salad and vegetable, hubby got the tequila lime chicken sandwich with coleslaw and vegetable. It did take a long time to get our food. The side salad was good but it had way too much bacon on it. My black bean burger was disgusting...and that is putting it nicely! It was not a burger by any means, it was black bean paste on top of a bun. Hubby said his food was ok. The coleslaw was runny and he said the sandwich had very little taste to it, but did like bread, said it had a good crunch. The steamed broccoli was good, but I left there extremely hungry after only having a side salad and broccoli to eat. Will never come here again. read more

We have been going here on a regular basis for a couple of years, but I was very disappointed last night. Service was erratic and slow and the food was less than satisfactory. Sandwich was sloppily thrown on the plate with half of the insides on the outside, steamed broccoli was mush and the fries were soggy. I would like to think this was just a bad night for the staff but we have been noticing a gradual slide in the food quality over past 6 months and this was the worst. Sorry but there were no reasons for me to want to go back again after this. read more

We were not impressed. Our first time there - I ordered their Holiday Margarita - which said it had cinnamon and sugar rim - and the picture showed it that way. The bartender who served us made mine and handed it to me without anything in the rim. I asked her if there was supposed to be something on the rim and she asked me "do you want something on the rim?" I told her yes - since that was the drink. She just acted like you were putting her out. We will never go back. read more

The atmosphere didn't match the menu, and the food was Sysco fresh and not MADE fresh. Blah. Once I walked in I thought looked like a pizza place. The wait staff was friendly, and quick. However, the food was bland and just not good. We order the Guacamole and chips and it was out of a bag and wasn't taste fresh at all, I could go to Kroger and buy it, I was out and I would think it should made to order. I order the chicken dish that stated it had jalapeño purée and I never add salt to my meals and I had to dose it 3 times just to get and favor. Our first visit and we loved the service, food, atmosphere and conversation with executive chef. Our party of six was without complaint and full of compliments. There were six beers on tap so, everyone found a preferred beer (thirsty dog porter for myself). We ordered guacamole and chips as an appetizer which was enough for 6. My entree, the tequila lime chicken sandwich, included two sides (there are 6 or so to choose from however I opted for fried and slaw). The dish was full of favor and filling. After speaking to the executive chef (who was friendly and proud without being boastful) we decided we had to try dessert too! A strawberry wine smoothy and strawberry wine sponge cake - both of which were very good! I love the atmosphere and the fact that the restaurant uses many local suppliers and hopes to expand to a fully community sourced restaurant within two years. Was very disappointed that we didn't get to try this place tonight. We had 5 people in our party so they said they could not seat us at a table for 6 since we did not have 6 people. The other option was to seat us at a booth for 4 people. We did not stay. This was after 7 o'clock so probably wouldn't be getting much busier so did not understand why we could not be placed at the table!! Very disappointed and probably won't go back!! read more

My friends and I tried this place for lunch a few weeks ago on the recommendation of another business in Grand Rapids. The prices were good, the food was very good and you get a lot of it. Service was ok. I will go back again, but they need to be a little more attentive to service. Again, the food was great. Oh, we went in rather late for lunch, so we were the only ones in there. So it's not like they were super busy. Again, I'd go back. Oh, the side dishes (2) the frys were ok, the pork and beans (baked beans) were fresh out of the can. Not good. Just had lunch today with my 5 year old and 7 year old. It was mid-afternoon so we ate at the bar. Friendly and kind service the moment we opened the front door. The bartendress ,without asking , changed my kids simple sprites into luxurious Shirley Temples which thrilled them. The food was excellent as well. The kids offerings were delightful, tasty ,well designed, and all fresh quality ingredients. The mini burger and grilled cheese plates were perfect size and excellent taste. My burger, their special, was done perfectly, cooked as directed and tasty to the eyes and tatse buds.. The recommended side of cole slaw was indeed very good as well. The space is warm and friendly , very comfortable design and furnishings...and the mark of a quality establishment..great bathrooms! Clean Clean and Clean! Thanks for a great meal today! read more

The place was cute and the waitstaff was fantastic. I'm a local GR resident and love supporting local businesses. My salad was yummy and I loved the beet vinaigrette salad dressing. My 3 star is only because I did not appreciate the chef and his strangely argumentative personality. I was telling my husband how much I loved the salad dressing and said it was second only to homemade salad dressing that I make. And the chef somehow found it appropriate to argue with me and tell me that ranch dressing was not real salad dressing and assumed that I used salad dressing packets.... It felt strange that he was not pleased to find another person who made salad dressing, and rather chose to make sure I knew how much better his was. It was awkward and did not feel playful. There was another incident which also felt awkward, and I must admit was embarrassing, but I don't want to be negative with my review because the wait staff was lovely and I want to support my hometown. :-) I think the restaurant will be very successful if he stays in the kitchen and does not interact with customers. On a plus side, while all new, the girls that work behind the bar were lovely and attentive. I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with them. I really enjoyed the record menu, where you can actually select songs to play from a vintage vinyl collection in the back. Talk about awesome! ! I actually thought giving this Kafe a second try would be fair. But that was not to be. The seating was crowded and not comfortable. The food was subpar and that's being nice. The taco salad was like no other taco salad I ever had. I didn't even recognize it as a taco salad. The atmosphere seemed friendly enough for the locals. But for us and two other tables that the wait staff did not seem to know, we were over looked. The waitress's seemed to do a lot of group chats together leaving one poor girl to run around alone filling drinks and cleaning tables. We gave it a shot didn't work for us. read more

My wife Mindy and I ate here tonight for the first time and it was excellent!! We had the cherry chicken salad and the mac and cheese. Both were awesome and it is nice that they use fresh, local items. The owner, Dillon, even stopped by to see how our food was. Great place, we will definitely be back and you should go to. read more

The atmosphere and aesthetic of the whole place is really cool. However, it is apparent that nobody has any idea what they are doing, they do try and make up for it with effort though, and they do an adequate job. The one exception was the chefs, every dish I has was expertly crafted and you could tell that it was made from scratch and on a grill or pan, no microwaves here. Beer selection lacking, wine selection good. Come for great food and cold drinks. read more

This is a nice change of pace from the local places in Grand Rapids. We have a wonderful Mexican place (Fernando's), an upscale restaurant with a full bar (LaRoe's), two pizza places, and a local bar with bar food. The food at Knuckleheads is wonderful. They have a good beer selection, and a decent wine selection. For using local products and preparing them from scratch the prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is what is the most appealing about this place. It's not snobby, or trashy. It's comfortable, relaxed, and fun. They have a bunch of records in the back that can be played upon request. We thought it was a nice touch. The lighting, the decor, even the bathrooms are all well done and there was a lot of time and effort put into the design and execution of this place. If you are in GR I highly recommend this place. read more

Love it! Service has become very good. The menu expanded. And the food is very very good. And you can't beat the decor or the setting.

Grand Rapids is so lucky to have this little restaurant! The food is good and reasonably priced. A sandwich is $8 or $9 and comes with two sides so you get a lot of food. Grand Rapids finally has a place to take out of town guests to get a burger and fries and some beer. read more
