I love this place. I get the ko-ryu spicy ramen. I have had level 3 which had some avg heat. At level 4 the pain starts to really have a lasting impact. You can taste the habanero. I think I will stick to level 3 spicy. The Ramen noodles are delicious and chewy and the pork was tender. The torikara (chicken) don was also really good. Crunchy but tender on the inside. Torrance Food Crawl #40 A simple but good ramen noodle place, with lots of options if you want to partake of them. I was there after lunchtime and there were plenty of empty tables. I went with one of the house specialties, the Koi Ramen which is the first listed ramen on the menu. I had mine with medium spicy miso. The miso broth had a nice body and for something that was supposedly medium spicy I wasn't sure I got the spicy or mild version, no coughing, watery eyes, or runny nose. There is a wall of fame with pictures of people who have tackled some of the hottest ramens served there so I know that it can be much hotter. The noodles were not as plentiful as most ramen places and seemed slightly undercooked, but not severely so. The pork was well cooked and easily broke up when I ate it. This Ramen restaurant is located in the Torrance Crossroads Plaza. It might be more convenient to get there from Skypark Drive and avoid the drive-thru line at In-N-Out. This is a little restaurant among a cluster of various eateries. There was an older man & woman who must be the owners(?), who seemed to be running the restaurant. So, I am guessing that it is a mom & pop type of shop. They were friendly. We were the first to arrive and it was nice. The man took our order using his iPad or something similar. The woman brought out our food. We ordered 2 Shumai Dumplings and they are a bit big! We also ordered 2 bowls of Ko-Ryu Spicy Ramen, level 3 & 5. The 5 was not all that spicy at all, but that's just a perspective. The ramen had great flavor, I could have just drank the broth and called it good! The noodles were a little more al dente/firm than I prefer, but still not bad. My husband thought there were too many bean sprouts, but that was rectified when he put them in my bowl! The pork was a little unusually cut, it was a kind of thick slice and it was a little chewy. I put that in my husband's bowl! With the Ramen Pass, we got out of there for $12 + tip! 3 1/2 stars. Found Ramen Ko-ryu on yelp. I was really hungry BC I had just walked a round of golf in Palos Verdes and was looking forward to a yummy bowl of ramen. The place is small and has only about 7 tables and is located in a large strip mall. Parking was easy to find on the weekend for a late lunch. My order, the Miso ramen with gyoza add. My lunch arrived within a few minutes and the broth was yummy and ramen was cooked perfectly. Only con I can say is that the pork portion was on the skimpy side with only 2 thin small pieces. The ramen is very basic and it you want any additional items they are a buck add and that's even for green onions! The gyoza was tasty, on the smaller size and pan fried. Lalala Ramen 50% deal brought me here, and their Spicy Miso Ramen was the special. I squeezed in at lunch around 1:30pm and still found the place to be packing up after the lunch hour. It was literally a squeeze because the restaurant is small with little tables that seat two and you have to side shuffle in-between them to sit against the all. If you have more in your party they'll push the tables together, but not ideal for groups larger than 4. Not too bad of a spot for a quick fix. Located in the huge plaza with the Home Goods (my second home, haha) and Home Depot. They have the Spicy challenge wall of fame. Many past customers challenge the spicy level number 5, if you dare! I don't, so I simply went with the Koi Ramen, not to be confused with the fish. The broth is very good. The noodles were more like the instant ramen, wavey kind, but thicker. Boyfriend went with the tsukamen. He liked the broth, but not the noodles. If you check-in on Yelp, you get two free toppings. So they have a challenge, if you eat level 20 spicy ramen, you get unlimited toppings for free forever after this visit. If you eat level 50, you get a hat. So I tried the level 20 spicy ramen. The flavor was there even though there's a lot of spice. I love spicy food and I can handle level 20 easily. I ate the ramen in less than 15 minutes because of its large portion. The guy next to our table had 4 glasses of milk because he couldn't handle it. They take a picture of you if you finish the ramen and you can claim your photo next time you come in. The aftermath. so the spicyness wasn't bad at all while eating but the day after, I went to the bathroom at least 10 times (number 2). My body wanted to flush the spice away. Be careful! My friends came here often and I guess they abuse the free toppings. They order basically all the expensive toppings and extra noodle. It's good for customers but it's hurting this business. You will find Ko-Ryu in the same giant plaza as Home Depot / In-N-Out Burger in Torrance and this tiny Japanese ramen restaurant is located on the same side as Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ / Chipotle Mexican Grill. I came here 45 minutes before closing time and only to realize I had to actually wait for 10 ~ 15 minutes. Is this restaurant really that popular? Well, the entire restaurant has approximately 10 two-seat dining tables - so the chances are you'll probably have to be a bit patient during the busy dinner hours. At least there's a menu displaying at the front entrance for you to read and a small bench you can sit and wait. Once I was seated, my waiter Jay immediately asked whether I want any drinks. I said no water and he immediately responded by asking "Would you like hot tea instead?" Whoa, either this guy can actually read my mind or he just has tons of service experience. I was a bit worry that hot tea would cost extra ... but eventually I found out hot tea was completely free! Overall, service was fast and efficient! First time here at this ramen stop but not my first rodeo for Ramen. For my experience in Ramen I've had my fair share of ramen in the South Bay from Uminoya, Ramen Yamadaya (north torrance and torrance location), Hayatemaru, ramen in LA and in Australia. This place is a nice small little store with really nice staff. At moment looks like they have a staff of three from my observation. 2 waiters and 1 cook. I got their #25 with soup base spicy miso. I can say that they have really good broth. Not to salty and to plain. Spicy level is just a hint but you can always ask them to adds more. Their presentation was presentable and had unique bowls. 5/5 I'll give this ramen 4.5/5 in my scale. I also order pork shomi which had excellent taste but my friend begs to differ, Maybe they were expecting dim sum shomi. I would recommend this to friends and family. Kind staff who is asking if I need anything else or a refill on my drink. Be mindful the time I came to the restaurant is 3 pm on a Sunday. So no rush of people trying to eat or waiting to eat. I chose the egg and seaweed. Nothing special. What's up with their meat? The chashu that came with it was hard and overcooked. Normally the chashu adds some nice flavor to the bowl but I just wanted to eat it really fast to get it out of the way. Local Ramen joint friendly and very helpful waiters when ordering. Most of the broth is a mix of Chicken & pork but they also have a Veggies broth which I ordered since I don't eat pork. When ordering you can pretty much make it how you want it by adding or taking away whatever you want. The veggie broth medium spicy is amazing I added deep fried garlic, green onions, corn, and cabbage. Very tasty noodles cooked perfect served very hot and fresh. Ended up in Torrance and wanted some Ramen and we found this place on Yelp! We came in an hour before closing time and service was very nice and attentive. I was a bit tired in the best way and then after I ate the delicious Ramen I was happy and relaxed. I also ordered the squid balls and they were not what I expected - I was thinking something with the same texture as a spicy fish ball but this was a hard fried ball on the outside with a creamy center with pieces of squid inside and topped off with smoky dried fish flakes. I usually don't drink broth because of sodium and all, but man, I was drinking that stuff non-stop! Didn't really care for the octopus balls. Essentially more batter than octopus. If you like spicy food and spicy ramen, this is your spot. They have crazy heat levels for their spicy ramen, and if you order 'courageous' and above you get free toppings for life, it's too insane for me. If you complete 'myth,' you get a shirt or something that's not worth ruining your mouth. If you don't like spice, their other selections are pretty tasty, I enjoyed their takoyaki. When a restaurant has a sliding scale of 1-10 for levels of spice, most places advertise 1 being no spice and 10 being very spicy This place should clearly advertise that their 1 is already mild We ordered almost $100 worth of food, of which most was completely inedible. The chicken ramen for the children with a spice level of 1 was too hot for many of the adults. I normally order food Spicy Hot and their level 5 was extreme I couldn't eat it.
