This place was horrible. First off the waitress acted like she didn't want to be at work the minute we sat down. We found a hair in the salad, then there was a hair in the vegetables. Then they brought everyone at the whole tables sushi out on one plate with no explanation of what anything was. We asked for more water and the waitress just added water to the glasses with no more ice so it was luke warm. So then the bills came out with of course the gratuity added. Average at best and overpriced. We're moving back to our house in Fredericksburg and stopped in for dinner while waiting for someone. The wait staff is very nice and attentive but those bright spots cannot outweigh higher prices that Alexandria and DC as well as below average food quality. For instance, the tekka maki was tuna scraps mushed together instead of a continuous piece of fish. The tempura was overly battered and cakey and the steak used for the grill was very reminiscent of meat I've had while away from home in service of the country. They make up for the poor quality with laughably large quantity so you'll definitely have leftovers. We won't be back. read more

Overall Kobe is pretty good. The staff is always nice and the food is pretty good. This is normally the hibachi place my husband and I always go to when we want hibachi. We both normally get the shrimp & chicken combo. My husband also always gets the volcano roll. read more

Pleasantly surprised by the food. The service was rather slow and non chalant. My wife had the miso soup and asked for extra tofu which didn't happen. I've NEVER been grossed out by fried rice until now. They use (not so) "yum yum" sauce... A "seafood sauce" that contains mayonnaise (disgusting). The rice was also undercooked, it would have been nice to give me a warning. I was apprehensive about coming here since it only had 3 stars on Yelp, but my vote NOT to come here was vetoed. Kobe's? More like dopeys. I don't ever write reviews but I felt this experience merited one and not in any good way. As soon as I arrived here, my sister and her significant other were there before me. My sister was in tears and told me the owner had yelled at her that her family did not get here fast enough. Our reservation was at 6:30 and we got there at 6:35. We drove from Fairfax to Fredericksburg and left about 1 hour and a half early trying to get there on time. My whole family stood there another couple of minutes and no one was able to seat us. After a few minutes, the owner came and sat another family down who had a 7pm reservation and their whole family was not there. We let the owner know we were all here and he gave an exasperated sigh and waked away. We got sat 10 minutes later. Then we waited another 20 minutes until a waiter finally showed up to our table. She looked at us without saying anything for 2 minutes then she said something we couldn't understand. We asked for menus and then she left. She never came back and then a different waiter came with menus. It should be noted we all asked for our food to be made gluten free because the whole group has celiac disease and get very serious stomach upset when eating gluten. The rest of the night went ok and the food and service of the chef was good. It wasn't until the middle of dinner when my sister vomited directly onto the grill. We were all in complete shock and speechless. The entire restaurant was at a standstill and a little girl shrieked in horror. I then proceeded to vomit onto the grill as an involuntary reaction... like clockwork we all started puking onto the table and grill as if we were playing rapid fire uno. The management said nothing as our cook served up our grilled vomit to us. Just when I thought the night was getting weird enough, the waiter said something that chilled me to my core. They said that celiac disease was for the weak and simple. Never again will we visit this establishment. Left a good tip though and the staff were always smiling! read more

Kobe is one of our favorite places in town! Anyone who complains that the sushi is sub par obviously didn't take the time to speak to the sushi chef in person and also doesn't realize that ordering off the menu is always option. A spicy tuna roll is a spicy roll but Danny's sushi is art. We always sit at the bar and it's is never a disappointment. The waitstaff is great and always happy to see us. Phil always takes time to greet our kids and make them laugh and Dave always takes time makes us grown ups laugh too. We come often the prices are very reasonable for sushi and the staff really takes care of their regulars. The owner is in house often and very friendly, very generous. My daughter is autistic and eating out can be a challenge.... when she walks into Kobe they treat her like a celebrity. They are often busy on weekends and as anyone who eat hibachi often knows it's not a quick meal but Kobe is worth the wait. read more

This place is VERY inconsistent. First time eating here was good, then each time after got worse and worse. Woman on the phone was rude. Used to get both soup and salad, but now they make you choose one? Then tells me the only veggies you get are carrots. Not true. Had a horrible expierence. Service was horrible. The food was okay. As we were paying the computer was unable to process my credit cards. Therefore I had to leave to go to the ATM to get cash for them. Come to find out they charged my card 6 times. 189$ worth of charges. They were rude and really did not care! I had been to this restaurant several times and enjoyed the food so I suggested it for my daughter's birthday dinner. What a fiasco! There were to be 4 adults in our party plus my 7 month old granddaughter. 3 of us arrived together but my son-in-law was running late. The host told us we couldn't be seated til he arrived but my daughter explained that we would order for him and get started without him. The host kindly seated us at a new table. Shorty after we were seated the manager called the host over to him. The manager began yelling at the host for seating us because there were 3 empty seats at another table. He began a tirade that went on and on very loudly in front of the whole restaurant. We became so uncomfortable that my daughter felt the need to defend the young host and to take the blame for his actions. The manager wouldn't hear it and the tirade continued. We ended up leaving and going to Otani where we had a lovely dinner. I will never go back to Kobe. read more

Our hibachi chef was awesome, but the experience with the manger made the night horrible. The manger from the beginning had an attitude and this was my families first time here and last time, we were celebrating my fiancée birthday. We all ordered and my son only order sushi, well he ordered the California roll, he's a teenager what teenager do you know eat fish eggs on the menu it had Roe, well I asked the manger if he could take it off my tab and his response is what do you want me to to do with it. I don't care what you do with it just bring my bill so we can go, he brought the bill and responded I took the sushi off like he was doing me a favor and then continue to say next time don't order something your not going to eat. Well my mother had a mouth full for him, she responded next time there will be no next time, we will not be coming back, the manger by surprise stated well Don't, I was shocked, this is how you talk to your customers, not a very good manger to speak in that manner. Wow never again. Never this restaurant. He needs customer service training. So sad when your teenage kids has a worse opinion then yours. read more

Ok so I usually don't do this. But this was the worst. I came in at 8:00pm they close at 9:00pm the server act like she was mad that we walked in. Then our chief was mad at us because the server messed up our order. Slams the food on the grill to the point the food splash on to the table. By then I was so up set that I just asked for a box, that was after I had to wait to get my daughters kids meal. I don't know if they've recently come under new management or what their story is. We used to go to this restaurant all the time but the quality and service has gone steadily downhill over the past few months until last night was the final nail. It was always a little irksome how high their prices were. It's fine if you're actually at a table getting the show but they're really high if you're just sitting in the dining area. We sat down and placed our order. We were told that it would cost more if we wanted a particular soup and that was okay but they brought out the wrong soup. We sent it back. Our appetizers arrived with our main food so you would think everything would be the appropriate temperature but the appetizers were cold. Like yucky cold. We had our drinks brought and then we never saw our waiter again. Whenever we wanted or needed something we had to go ask the bartender. Salads came covered with dressings that we asked to have on the side. And when the bill arrived the prices we were charged for our sushi and our tempura were not the prices that they were listed at. It was explained that the sushi menus were old and that the prices had changed. We asked to see the manager and he was smiles and shrugged shoulders. We got them to change the bill but the final insult was the forced gratuity. They made us pay 18% for service that we never received. Such a shame this use to be one of my favorite resturanrs. . Things have completely changed and not for the better. I have three children 12,3, and 1. To bring them to the restaurant would interrupt the other people eating so we choose to do take out. When the previous owner was there it was never an issue to order a kids meal for take out ( especially since we always ordered at least three full size entrees ). The new owner allowed us to do it before and tonight would not. The gentleman Justin who took my order stated he didnt want to take my order anymore after I let him know I was going to post about my dissatisfaction. I normally don't post bad reviews in case the business is just having an off day however this was a situation where I think it's more of the business not caring. We showed up and the greater was friendly she pointed us to our own table and we got our drinks which were quite large promptly after we ordered them. The "miso soup" which was a mix of vegetable stock and green onions tasted like salty broth. Out of politeness I tried to eat as much as I could but in that moment my worry went up. Next was the "salad" which was lettuce and some definitely store bought ginger dressed on top. The amount of water at the bottom made it more like a soup than a salad. Another family arrived and they were sat at our table at this point it was 15 minutes into our meal. Their order was taken and then their food arrived and ours hadn't even started to be cooked. After over 30 minutes of waiting my husband and I realized that the staff was waiting to cook both the parties meals together. At this point my husband and I were both quite over this experience and told them we were leaving. The icing on the cake was that the meal 2 shit salads 2 "miso soups" and 2 drinks was over 15$. The prices seemed a little high at first, but after seeing the ginormous serving sizes of everything I ordered, I definitely think the prices are very fair. This may be the worst restaurant I have ever eaten at. The person in charge, also the one making sushi, was hacking up a lung and spitting it into a can behind the bar. Nothing more appetizing than that for the guy handling my food with bare hands. No one at the front door when I came in. Bartender wouldn't stay late because he had people coming to his place to play beer pong. The long rice they use is horrific and would make someone from Japan laugh at us hysterically. Their sauces, especially the ginger dressing is watered down and the others are out of a can. I appreciate the fact their is not a "Big Night Out" in Fredericksburg, and is it high time for some great operators and chefs to come come to the area. But until then, this is not your place unless sustenance is your only culinary prerequisite. read more

Their idea of vegetables was zucchini, mushrooms and onions....where in the heck is the yellow squash, carrots, broccoli? The chicken had zero seasonings. Well i must im definetly disappointed.. We eat out quite often and alot of times we eat at japenese steak houses, we have one favorite. It was her birthday so she chose to try this new kobe resturaunt, we tried ozekis when it was open before kobe took over and ozeki was terrible too.. we noticed same boring cook, food wasnt prepared in any kind of order, the food was kid sized proportions for 25.99, steak was thin and unflavorful, i had steak and shrimp and got 5 shrimp. All in all it was a terrible experience, im guessing unless a major change happens it wont last long either read more

We went to Kobe with a large party after my daughter's graduation. I had made a reservation in April for the separate party room. When we arrived we were told it was not available. My husband asked to talk to a manager. The manager came out explained to us that we simply could not have that room because another party would arrive in an hour and they had reserved it. Ok fine, even though I was disappointed. We proceeded with our meal and everything was good.. The problem with this restaurant is not the food. It is actually one of our favorites. It is the uncaring attitude of the people that work there. Had it not been a special dinner and we did not have 11 other people with us, I would have left. The food was great but if you are spending that much money on a dinner and everything is not going well you just want someone to care. It is too bad because it was one of our favorite places. There are way too many other options in Fredericksburg to treat people like that. My over all thought was if they don't care, why come back. read more

The sushi here is horrible, worse than grocery store quality. The rice in the sushi was undercooked, dry, and tasted like it had been sitting in a rice cooker for days. The fish was a weird temperature. This was my second time ordering sushi from here - both times I ordered To Go, which I rarely do for sushi. The first time it was just okay, just above Wegmans quality (which for sushi sucks but for the price is ok), but this most recent time the food was almost inedible but I couldn't throw away $25. I almost called up to complain and insist on a refund. If I had been served sushi of that quality in the restaurant, I would have stood up and walked out. Kobe: don't mess around with sushi, since doing sushi wrong can make your customers sick. I had a bad reaction to what I ate within 20 minutes of eating my meal. I would not eat here again - ever, even if it was free. I will stick to my local favorite, which is the restaurant in Central Park near Best Buy - if you're interested, look it up. read more

Were new to this area and decided to give this place a try since it was closer to our house, this is the second Habachi restaurant we have eaten at since living in this area. We were very very disappointed. The service was very poor, there are only two waiters/waitress waiting on ppl. Our waiter took our order, but assumed we wanted the house salad with ginger, not sure if this place had any other type of salad dressing because he didn't say anything, but I decided to give the house salad a try. When the salad arrived I found a long blk hair in my salad ( and reading the reviews on yelp, I'm not the only one that found a hair in the salad), I told the waiter, he gave me a new salad. The salad was not even fresh and they put too much ginger dressing in it, I couldn't even eat it. The sushi was good. The cook spoke so slow we couldn't hear him and he talked the whole time, he talked a little too much. The food was good, but portion size was small, I know a lot of Habachi places give you a lot of food,but this place did not. We ordered extra fried rice for my kids who just wanted the rice, they were disappointed because they only had a little bit of rice and my son was still hungry. We had two other ppl at our tables besides my family and they ordered extra mushrooms and carrorts, but the cook kept giving them extra rice, shrimp etc.. I paid the same amount for my food as they did and our portion was small. I'm usually full from eating Habachi since we get sushi with and I always take food home bc I cannot finish, but eating at Kobes I didn't. The waiter also, gave us large glasses of water, coke etc. Because they do not want to keep filling your glasses up. We had lazy service. This place is definitely over priced and we had a bad experience, we would NEVER go back again. read more

I am not complaining about the food, the servers or the ambiance of the restaurant itself, but the last bunch of times I have ordered sushi here they have forgotten to serve many things that were clearly marked on the sushi menu. The first time they tried to charge me for stuff I did not receive... fine, I chalked it up to mistake and let them send me out with the items in a to go box, the second time I simply had them take it off the menu and figured no big deal.... this time I was watching them and they forgot my saba and yellow tail yet again....... and this time I am done with this place. I was ok with the first 2 mistakes, but this is 3 times in a row.... something "fishy" is going on here. We have spent thousands of dollars at this restaurant over the years and always tip well (even tipped well tonight), but you have our last dollar. I do not trust you guys anymore.
