Overall good - 4 stars. FOOD: My food was good. I ordered 3 tuna based sushi rolls. Two of my rolls were standard type rolls. One of my rolls was a large "specialty" roll. All three rolls had great flavors and they came out fast, more speedy than usual. SERVICE: As usual, the service was excellent. I had a small glitch in the beginning. I stood around in front for quite a while without being noticed. Lots of employees walked by & saw me but I was still left standing. I finally walked in, I got the sushi chef to take his headphones off, and I asked him if I could sit at the bar. Everything was great once I was officially recognized as a customer. I had to laugh, however, because they have a million security cameras all over the place, a bunch outside and even more inside. Yet...despite a million cameras...no one saw me standing around and pacing for 10 minutes. Why have cameras if no one pays attention? Funny! DECOR: The first thing I noticed about Kobe is it's HUGE. The square footage is impressive and they have very high ceilings. They have nice design throughout, lots of dark colors with bright accents. I particularly like the small koi pond in front. No touching the koi (see photo). I also like the hundreds of customer photographs covering the walls in the front entryway. Cool! LOW CARBOHYDRATE: It's easy to eat low-carb, keto, carnivore style at Kobe. I usually stick with tuna based rolls, a simple soup, and/or a meat based appetizer. I avoid large rice portions, mountains of noodles, and anything that might be hiding sugar or vegetable seed oils. I messed up this time though. I ordered the BMW roll, which is GIANT, easily 2 or 3 times bigger than a typical sushi roll. Plus it's deep fried in vegetable seed oil! I knew better. But like a dummy, I ate the whole thing. By the time I got home, I felt horrible. Oh, well. The flavor was great but I should have abstained from large starch portions and from bulky food items boiled in seed oils. Overall, a good experience. I'd go back again any time. -Maxx

Sushi rolls were good, large size for the price which was kind of steep. Summer roll and Fall roll, were delicious. Yaki Udon with chicken- a little too salty and the chicken pieces were small. The texture could have been better. Service was nice.

I give a full 4 stars for happy hour, but the 3 is for the execution of the rolls and dishes. The ingredients were there but execution of the dishes were not quite there. Was welcomed warmly by hostess and sat quickly. Servers were knowledgeable, attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Never needed to ask for water, more drinks, the bill, nothing. It was like they knew what I was wanting before I had to ask! 5 stars for service! The roll that I got had WAAY too much cucumber to the small portion of fish that was wrapped with it. All I could taste was cucumber in a roll that had shrimp tempura, two types of fish, cucumber and some eel sauce (I cannot remember the name!!!) and cost $15. Disappointed. Additionally, the agedashi tofu was a disappointment. The coating was slimy and fell off the second I tried to pick it up with the chopsticks. Do not get me wrong: the tofu was great, coating TASTED good, the dipping sauce was good but the execution was lost with the slimy soggy coating. I know that agedashi is to have some of that texture, but not so completely that you cannot pick it up with chopsticks without the casing sliding off the tofu. Miso soup was good, not too salty or skimping on the fixings, and the QUALITY of the nigiri (had tamago, tobiko, shake, escolar and maguro) was good too. Again the fish quality is sooo good. My only complaint is that the ratio of fish to rice on the nigiri was a little topsy turvy towards the rice. The happy hour is also a great one with great prices on both food and drinks, including non sushi items. All in all, the three stars are mainly for execution of specialty rolls and dishes, not due to the quality of the dishes or service, which was satisfactory.

The Yaki udon was so salty it was hard to swallow and the sushi had no taste whatsoever. Giving two stars because at least the service was good.

Momo Sushi is my favorite sushi in Minneapolis. Everytime I get asked for a sushi spot…read morerecommendation, I always say Momo. The rolls are huge and packed with incredible combinations. There is a great variety of rolls so everyone is going to be pleased with the meal. The restaurant itself is tight on space but the dining experience makes up for it. I recommend you beat the dinner rush and go early when they reopen for the evening. Warning, it does get really busy almost everyday because it is just that good! Location-wise it is great because if you struggle to find parking in the small lot next to the spot, you can park on a residential street behind the restaurant and take a short stroll. I'm curious as to what the takeout experience is, I haven't had the chance to order, I would rather dine in the restaurant.

It was fine, we walked through the Indian grocery next door. (also fun!) We had a great little table inside. We ordered the Giaoza pork and tumpra veggies to start. It was less that $60 for our family of 4. I can't wait to come back and try more.

This was, without a doubt, the best sushi and service I have ever experienced…read more I enjoy new experiences. Before Saturday I had never heard of Omakase. For those of you reading this that are in that boat, it is well worth it. Omakase is a five-course sampler of the best sushi they have to offer. Calling it a sampler does a disservice to the artistry and mastery of the craft that to a very select few is sushi. Bask (I hope I spelled that right) is one such master. My buddy and I came in for a fun visit to the Twin Cities. On an impulse, he suggested sushi, and my instinct was to check Yelp. I'm glad I did. We sat at the bar after a short wait, where we met Emma. Emma is a bringer and friendly bar tender who happens to love sushi. We read through the menu and saw that Omakase had a whole page devoted to it. Emma let us know that the chef and cook staff dismantle whole fresh fish frequently, ensuring their fish meets their high standard. That one fact made the decision easy. I wish I had taken pictures of the food. You'll have to take my word for it that each serving was a work of art, some in their simplicity, others arranged with delicate touches of culinary flair. Without pictures of the dishes, the best I can do are two examples. The first course was three different cuts from the same ahi tuna, featuring the leanest portion, a medium portion and a fatty portion of the same fish. Having fresh fish and experiencing such variety from the same animal was eye opening. The other example was the uni. Both of us had tried it at other establishments and neither of us recalled our respective experiences fondly. Here, the flavor and texture was what I was told I should expect with uni. If I had known it was part of the meal before ordering, I probably wouldn't have gone with it. Now, I'm open to having it again, and if it's here I'll enjoy it again. The meal was perfectly portioned for my buddy and myself to feel full, but not stuffed. The flavors and textures were perfect. Words fail to reach the feelings invoked. We may have just been ruined on sushi. I eagerly await my next trip to your beautiful city, if only to visit Billy Sushi again.

I will admit, it's a bit too fancy for me sometimes. And the price matches. But it has been a delightful and delicious dining experience both times, so who am I to complain? I really want to come back and do the omakase sometime. -Cocktails: They have this whole big explanation about how they take special care in the curation of their cocktails, and I have to say, they are pretty great. I got the Party Girl this last time and it was good but pretty boozy. The gold flak on the top of it was a bit over the top for me, but whatever. My friend got the Raspberry Beret, which was delicious and obviously appropriately themed for Minneapolis and being down the street from First Ave. The restaurant also has an impressive selection of sake, Japanese beer, etc. -Apps: We love the yuzu tuna and have gotten it both times. This last time we also got the salmon carpaccio, which was also delicious. I love age dashi tofu, and this version was good - but not the best (Oragimi has a better one). We found the broth to be delicious, but the one big chunk of tofu was a bit unwieldy, and the coating was a bit gummy. I would pass on that one next time. -Sushi-wise: Nigiri are amazing here - delicious, perfectly cut fish, generous portions, rice that is often still warm. No complaints. For rolls, we love the Big Blue Wave and the Toro Mania. We also ordered the Fancy & Furious, which was less delicious to me but still pretty tasty. Service both times was totally fine - nothing exceptional but nothing to complain about either. I am sure we'll be back. Note: you basically need a reservation if you want to come during a prime time or on the weekend. Book ahead.

From the moment we arrived, the valet parking made everything easy (though I recommend taking an Uber if you're doing the wine pairing... you'll definitely want to savor every sip). We went for the Matsu omakase, and wow -- every course was a work of art. The freshly grated wasabi, the thoughtful pacing, and watching each dish come to life at the sushi bar turned dinner into a full sensory experience. Chef Shiga was an incredible host -- friendly, engaging, and clearly passionate about his craft. And to top it all off, we had the pleasure of meeting Owner-Chef Shigeyuki Furukawa at the end of our meal -- such a gracious and humble culinary genius! Unfortunately, it just wasn't the same top tier experience. We booked the chef's table which was the highlight! We enjoyed getting to watch the chef and team prepare the fare, and chef even spoke to us at one point. Definitely a high level of skill there. We got the yakitori to start: good, but nothing crazy, and the price point for the small skewers is so high. The waygu was a bit tough. After time in Japan, we were JAZZED to get the okonomiyaki pizza, but it was...very sad. Hardly any toppings, and I don't even think it had cabbage on it? No cabbage on an okonomiyaki pizza...? We got a pasta to share as well, and it had great flavors but the portion was oh-so-tiny. We got the special morel pizza to share, and the price was STEEP (I think around $50) due to the rarity of morels, but it was the best thing we had! The gluten-free pizza crust felt small and wasn't overly substantial, so we didn't find much of the meal filling. This meal was quite pricey, and this second experience was more lackluster than our first.
