All I am going to say is the outside is deceiving, the SUSHI HERE IS PHENOMENAL. What I truly love is the creativity and simplicity behind their Special Rolls. Now I have been eating Sushi for some time and all I am going to say is this place is definitely a spot I will come to again, and again, and AGAIN. Now since he has been eating sushi he has played it safe with getting the Shrimp Tempura Roll with cream cheese added. NOT TODAY!!! This bamma did get the Shrimp Tempura roll but he also tried the other rolls and ordered another Red Skin Roll. Don't let the outside or inside fool you. We found this place on Yelp and stopped here for dinner on our way back to VA. The sushi was delicious and came out beautifully. The kalbi was really good too. Before we even ordered, several dishes of Korean appetizers (?) were brought out, kimchi, cucumber, potato, etc, which was awesome. The place isn't fancy at all, and most the chair seats were torn, but the incredible service made up for any poor decor. All the folks were really friendly, answered all my questions and provided soup and salad to every member of my family, including my 6 month old and 2.5 year old. Service, to me, is as important to me as the food, and the service here will bring us back again. Appetizers were great, BUT I have to knock my review down a little because the waitress was VERY unfriendly and unwelcoming from the very beginning. She seemed in a bad mood, never smiled at me, ignored my eye contact, and had the nerve to just SET down my food quickly, sort of dropping it, without saying a word and just walked away. It was quite offensive, and I can't really enjoy my food if I don't feel welcomed in a restaurant. Luckily, the male server was MUCH friendlier, approachable, and attentive. Pains me to write this review. I have been a long time customer of this establishment but after today it has really made me not even think about returning. After asking our server to change our order after we had just ordered because we had mistaken an item for another we see the server to talk with the chef and as we look over we see the chef shake his head in disgust saying they will not change our order after we had asked to PAY for it to be changed. On top of that, no one came to check on us and the bento box was dirty. I see a lot of reviews saying this place is a whole in the wall. it literally is. On top of that the chefs don't wear gloves when rolling YOUR sushi, ever think of where your sushi has been before you take a bite?This is from a customer who has been going here for 5+ years. A surprising find in a little strip mall. This is my favorite restaurant in Waldorf. Whether I'm in the mood for bulgogi, kim chi, jap chae, edamame, gyoza or sushi, it's always good. The lunch boxes are an excellent deal. They include and entree, 6 pieces of California roll, a couple pieces of tempura, and a salad. And you also get a bowl of miso soup and some kim chi to start. I enjoy Kodori because the service is always pleasant and friendly. The prices on sushi are lower than many of the other sushi places in the area, and the sushi is always fresh and delicious. However, the rolls are a bit smaller than you would get at Hanabi or Sakura. I don't mind this since I usually like to get a variety anyway. This is my usual go-to place for sushi nights. read more

This is the second time we've been here and we're so disappointed. The first time we got sick shortly after leaving here. This time it was just plain horrible. Got two sodas , both of them were flat, ended up asking for a bottled drink after having to send both sodas back. Then the entire time we were eating there were little flies in our food and flying in our faces, they were all along the wall. The walls have food splatted all over them like they've never been cleaned before. My husband saw the employees cooking without gloves and touching the trash cans and then the food. We left there horrified ! Praying we don't get sick. I wouldn't advise anyone to eat here . The service was also very poor. read more

She actually had the nerve to put her hand on her hips and sigh when I asked for additional kimchi. Well, I guess that's why I felt she was very deserving of the $.03 cent tip I left her. About the food, I ordered the the short rib bento box, ribs were very good but the portions were ridiculously small. It came with tempura veggies & one piece of shrimp. The traditional Korean sides were gross however, the kimchi cucumbers were good. The ginger salad dressing was good but marred by watery lettuce. The dirtiest, filthiest place I've ever seen. The salt shakers are caked with grime, totally empty, aside from a few old crusty pieces of rice. The walls are covered in grime. The chairs are sticky. The mints at the front are all unwrapped and sitting in an old tin. But if you can look passed the filth, the food is amazing. I will only order my sushi cooked, because looking at the glass over the sushi station makes me want to puke because it has never been cleaned. This is my absolute favorite sushi place in the DC area. Everything is fresh and delicious. I love the spicy roll set which comes with a spicy crab roll and spicy tuna roll and also a spicy salmon roll. Sometimes I substitute the tuna for another salmon and it never seems to be an issue or an up charge. The Kodori sauce which is spicy mayo is the Bomb, some of the best I've ever had! Although the restaurant is a bit dingy, my fiance and I love this place! Within minutes of sitting you get a delicious bowl of miso soup, a salad and some tasty korean style veges. (Incidentally, before coming here I disliked miso soup immensely). The maki is great. I usually go for the one of the Bimbap entrees. I haven't been disappointed yet. read more

As a frequent tradition, my husband & I dine out after Sunday worship service and this afternoon was no exception. Not thoroughly familiar with his "neck of the woods", our son introduced us to Kodori. He also informed us that it was a modest restaurant in a strip mall on a major highway in Waldorf and pointed out that they have a very reasonably priced lunch menu on weekdays, which we look forward to trying! We (3) shared the Kodori Bul Gogi box & added 3 separate orders of sushi (a la carte), Cucumber Roll, California Roll & Spicy Tuna Roll. Not sure if that would be enough for the 3 of us, we thought it was a great start, at least. We were pleasantly surprised that each of us were served salad, with ginger dressing, & miso soup that came with the order, expecting only one "set". While each of these were nothing more that the Japanese standard pre-meal fare, each were comforting & refreshing. Kodori is a delightful fusion of Japanese & Korean fare so an assortment of small dishes of kimchi (balanced between spicy & not so) were served with these as well. We were served only one bowl of rice; however, were told that more was available upon request. (We never needed more so we're not sure if there was a charge for that or not.) Our meal was delicious. A little bit of everything...tempura, seaweed salad, Bul Gogi (beef), dumplings, sushi with all the special condiments, was more than enough for Mom, Dad, & son who are never shy about eating, especially ethnic cuisine! With tax, tip & 3 (flat) soft drinks, our bill came to a little more than $52. Kodori was a bit pricey for a tiny restaurant lacking in ambiance and long overdue for simple upgrades, TLC & remodeling. Replacing cracked & uncomfortable vinyl chairs, repairing the dangling latch on the bathroom door & cleaning the sink in the unisex bathroom are simple and inexpensive ways to create a dining atmosphere that subtly conveys to guests that their comfort is important and "we take pride in our place of business". A restaurant that neglects to invest in "the front of the house" leaves patrons to rightfully wonder what the standards are in " the back of the house"! Again, we did enjoy our meal and lingered for quite awhile without feeling rushed by our server whatsoever. Further, we intend to take advantage of Kodori's weekday lunch specials in the future. read more

Kodori is one if our favorite places! The weekday bento lunch boxes are the best deal around. We like the bulgogi box and the spicy pork box. Kodori is a wonderful Japanese/Korean restaurant. Mr Kim of Kodori makes the best Sushi. Delicious and tight rolls. Many varieties of Sushi, Sashimi, lunch boxes and much more. His food is visually appealing and so very tasty. I think his prices are good. He and his staff are great, friendly and very helpful. This week I'm loving on Spicy Scallops, delicious, creamy and fresh. The Sashimi Red Tuna, Yellow Tail and White Tuna melts in your mouth, so fresh. Also love the Spicy Tuna roll. Delicious food! I got Jap Chae (the actual romanization of the Korean word but it's called Chop Chae on their menu) --the sweet potato noodles with beef and veggies.
