Kimchi Quesadilla and Chicken Kogi Taco
    Liana M.

Eating here was a spicy flavor party in my mouth! Everything was so good. I got the kimchi quesadilla. Loved the sauce and seasoning on top. Kimchi was very good. Just delicious. The chicken taco was also excellent. Very filling for such a small package. Loved the cabbage and flavoring on it as well. Service was pretty quick, which was nice. The truck was at the PST Art event at the Ebell. Will definitely order from Kogi again the next time I see it around!

Full disclosure, I came here looking for Roy Choi's new venture - Tacos Por Vida. It wasn't open because they had a soft opening and will re-open at a later date. No biggie. I was hungry so I stayed and ordered from the truck. I went to the brick and mortar a few times when it was open across the street as well. If you don't know by now, the Kogi trucks started a little over a decade ago and was fusion of Korean and Mexican flavors in classic taco truck items. On this particular trip, I ended up getting the Tofu Kogi burrito. I was trying to chill on the meat eating. Definitely tasty and with the Korean flavors really coming through on this. During my previous visits (in the Kogi Taqueria), I've had the sliders, kimchi quesadilla, World Famous Short Rib Burrito, Blue Moon Mulita, and carnitas taqueria style taco. All were pretty tasty, but my favorite item has to be the short rib burrito. The service was pretty standard in terms of taco trucks (in a good way). Parking at that particular time of night was pretty easy. Plenty of street parking nearby.

Had heard a lot of hype about Kogi Taqueria, so I finally stopped by and tried their chicken tacos. They were decent, but honestly not as mind-blowing as I expected. The chicken was flavorful but the toppings felt kind of basic compared to what I was hoping for. Service was quick and the staff was friendly, which I appreciated. Overall, not bad but not sure it lived up to the buzz for me. I might come back to try some other menu items before making a final call.

Extremely tasty. Get the short rib ... anything. Super nice often a line!! Fantastic Value. 3 Taco and a Drink for $10.00 These tacos are FAT. Flavor explosion with every bite. Btw there is another street taco joint right next to this one. If I was thinking about it I would have got a few steak tacos from that joint.. note the meat on wood fired grill I'm sure that joint is on point too.

Kogi Taqueria, founded by celebrity chef Roy Choi, is an iconic part of the Los Angeles food scene, blending Korean and Mexican flavors. We visited their location at 3434 Overland Avenue, which stays open until 11 PM, making it a great spot for late-night dining. Our experience was a mix of hits and misses. The tacos, featuring their famous short rib and OG Spicy Pork, were extremely dry--even the yummy sauce and fresh salad ingredients couldn't make up for it. However, we absolutely loved the Sweet Chili Chicken Quesadilla. The crispy wrap paired with the flavorful dipping sauce was amazing! Although there's no seating, we were happy to enjoy our food in the car. We each ordered Combo #3, which includes any $9 item, 1 taco, and a $2 drink for $13. It was very filling and offered excellent value. Definitely worth trying!

I wish I could like it, but I don't think Asian fusion is my thing even though I love Asian food. Allen and I got two things total: - short rib tacos - short rib burrito Burrito was hefty. Allen was pretty full from it for a few hours. I had 2 tacos and it felt like a chore to finish them...the salad dressing was wayyyy too strong, I couldn't even taste the short rib. And was the meat really short rib?! Tasted like chuck roast to me. Regardless, probably would never come here again now that I've tried it. Service was fast and great. FYI parking is strange - basically only street.

taco with beef, why so much bbq sauce? I can't taste the meat because of it. Usually they mask the poor quality of the meat. I give it a 3

Food: I ordered World famous short rib taco and burrito, spicy pork taco and Blackjack Quesadilla. Honestly they were all good but my top would be the Blackjack Quesadilla. It had an explosion of flavor. It's so unique, I never tasted anything like that. Go Korean and Mexican fusion! Service: It was pretty quick for me, took less than 5 minutes (I did go before the crowd got there though). Ambiance: It' a food truck Price: Reasonably affordable

Previously brick & mortar at 3434 Overland Avenue Roy Choi's Kogi Taqueria reverted to a Food Truck in June of 2023, the man who made Short Rib Tacos a phenomenon returning to his roots with a menu decidedly different from his more famous BBQ. Begun in 2008, first a late-night Hollywood outpost and eventually a fleet ranging from Anaheim to Santa Barbara, the era post-pandemic sees Roy with everything from a Bar to Las Vegas' Best Friend thanks to big flavors and friendly customer service. Grown in the era before #instagram and copied incessantly, Korean-influenced flavors more prominent by the day, Kogi Taqueria focuses largely on Mexican ideas built up by umami, the "Blackjack Quesadilla" perhaps most famous thanks to its heft and fiery Pork with Onions. Obviously not forgetting the famous Taco, Slaw and Salsa atop spoon-tender Beef, guests can also find Squid bathed in Citrus or the crackling Blue Moon Mulita placing grilled Chicken and Cheese amidst fragrant Salsa Azul. Rounding out the menu with jumbo Wings for less than some Vegas bars charge for the baby ones, crispy and heated by Gochujang, Choi's Pacman Burger is best eaten with a fork, knife and several napkins before finishing up with Chocolate Tres Leches topped in crunchy Peanut Butter.

I waited years to come across a food truck to see what the hype was about and saw one on my lunch break so I gave it a shot. There wasn't a big line but maybe a few big orders, I ordered the blackjack quesadilla and waited about 20-25 min for it to come out. It did look really good but as I ate it I couldn't find any flavor in the food besides the salsa verde if even that and it wasn't spicy at all. I felt like I was just eating tortilla smothered in grease smh. Service was solid tho

Delicious food at this food truck, with very fast service. The short rib tacos are a must!! The marinated meat, cilantro, slaw and homemade tortillas make a perfect bite. We also loved the kogi loaded fries, and how crispy they were even with all of the toppings (kimchi, short rib, cheese, sauces) - so good! There was a bench nearby that we ate our lunch on, but not a lot of other seating options in the area, so be sure to take it to-go and enjoy!!

Gotta love your LA fusions. This place is Korean/Mexican and they do an excellent job of merging two cuisines that one would not think would mesh well together into a lovely marriage of flavors. I had the kimchi quesadilla and it was a true chef's kiss. For just under $9 I received a large, steaming quesadilla filled with melty cheese and wonderfully favored kimchi. And the sauce...oh my gosh the sauce. I would drink that stuff. They have a fair amount of other options as well, including plenty of meat for the carnivores. Definitely check Kogi out for a unique and delicious taste experience!

We went at around 11:30 am, just half hour after it opens. We were first one to arrive and just within 5 mins there was a huge line. We ordered kimchi quesadilla and tofu taco. Both were absolutely delicious. Kimchi quesadilla was warm, filled with kimchi n cheese and was perfect crisp. Taco had soft Korean flavorful tofu and a nice sesame dressing cabbage slaw. Absolutely love chef Roy choi fusion of Korean and mexican.

Ask the Community - Kogi BBQ

What do they mean by, "bad burrito style" on the secret menu?

Is the new plant-based dog aka "Home Run" available here yet?

The kogi taqueria unfortunately is closed permanently. However they set up the original truck across the street on the other side of 7/11- so if the truck had them then maybe your in luck.

Is there anything on the menu that can be made gluten-free?

Parking situation? What if the lot is full?

The lot is small and can fill up fast during peak lunch hour. There is a smaller lot off of Palms just east of the main lot. There's also limited street parking on Overland and Palms.

Now when you pull up originally you might think, "am I in the right place" but once you park and get into the courtyard, it is LOVELY! Amazing ambience! There is a bocce set up, string lights. It is a little slice of oasis in the middle of the fashion district. The restaurant itself - beautiful. I couldn't ask for more. Absolutely perfect in my book. Beautiful plants hanging, perfect Spanish music in the background (any place playing Natalia LaFourcade is a win). The drinks were great! I had the jungle bird which was fun. Food was so good too. The whipped beans are the star! We had the guacamole which was tasty, great tostadas with it. The arepas were good but the pork belly was a little too fatty (I know pork belly is always fatty) to the point the fat muted the flavored for the arepa a bit, but still delicious. The empanadas were great and as someone who lived in South America and ate empanadas every day, these really took me back to my Paraguay days. The squash blossoms were light and perfectly fried. Unfortunately my friends had gone to Funke the night before so they were comparing the squash blossoms and Funke won out, but they still liked Dama's! Small plates were enough for the 3 of us. The service was quick and attentive. Parking was easy for us. I will definitely be back!

The staff are lovely humans who really seem to care about their customers. We have some faves on the menu. The bean dip is fabulous and I'm addicted to the baby gem salad. They have recently amped up the filling in the delicious crispy squash blossoms and I love the acidity and heat. The fish is also a hit in my books. One dish that doesn't work for me is the lamb chops, which is a shame since it's my favorite protein. I've ordered them multiple times with clear instructions on temperature and have found them overcooked and tough. The beef tostada was just ok. Whilst I loved the pickled veg on the side, the beef was underseasoned. It wasn't bad - just not up to the standard of other dishes. The vibe in the place is welcoming and the restaurant is nicely appointed. We will continue to be regulars and it's really worth trying if you haven't been yet.

There must have been a special occasion to be welcomed by music that was incredibly loud. We sat down, and I couldn't hear myself think, or the waiters voices. We asked for another table, but unfortunately that brought a certain type of attitude from the host. I'm sure the music would have been nice if it wasn't as loud, on amplified speakers. After finally being seated, near the bar, the service seemed great. Seating seemed plentiful, but I can now see why a reservation is necessary. To start, the appetizer we chose was a queso fundido which was ok on their smaller tortillas. I must have been spoiled by Chalio's homemade giant tortillas. Chalio's on Atlantic by the way. Guelageutza uses sautéed mushrooms, and they garnished it with this guacamole that didn't really taste that good. Mushrooms on the fundido didn't seem right, but individually they tasted great. The chorizo was ok. My gf likes to try those types of apps. They're not known for that, so I can let it pass. Our order was taken, food was quick, and hot. The attentiveness of the staff was good, but their smiles were absent. Must have had a long day. I got the black Mole chicken, my gf got the enchilada negras(black mole) topped with their tesajo. My dish was good, hot, and full of mole, which was delicious as well. They served it with their tiny homemade corn tortillas. They have several types of mole. My gf got the enchiladas Oaxaceñas and it looked good until I took a bite of the enchiladas. They just poured mole over the tortillas and that's where the flavor went flat. The tortillas were dry and not dipped in the sauce. Traditionally in my family, we fry our tortillas lightly in oil, or lard, and roll them in the sauce. My gf didn't even finish them. I ate all of my meal, and I took her enchiladas home. They were even worse as leftovers. I tried to order their traditional flan, but they had ran out, so I ordered their tres leches. It was ok. I was really disappointed that they ran out of flan though. All in all, this establishment was ok. The atmosphere seemed very manufactured, but I've never had the pleasure of visiting Oaxaca. The mole negro was delicious on the chicken. Seeing that It was recommended on Yelp, I agreed with the statement of picking that dish. The bathrooms were great with a good amount of stalls. I can't say that about a lot of good delicious Mexican food restaurants here in LA. They seem to be more of an afterthought with some. Reminding myself this was Michelin rated restaurant, I didn't get that same feeling with the food though. This now, will give me an excuse to look into why a restaurant is rated as such to understand why that matters so much.
