Koh Lipe serves some seriously delicious food. The goong moun ($13.95) is a can't miss appetizer. A flavourful but light shrimp paste (studded with carrot, chilli, and betel leaf) is wrapped in crispy tofu sheets that's like a spring roll but better. It's tasty on its own or with a splash of the savoury and sour Arjard vinaigrette. Koh Lipe synthesizes the sour, salty, and umami elements of tom yum into a powder that covers the chicken wings or peek gai tom yum ($13.95). Given it's a dry rub, the batter on the wings remains crunchy, a great contrast against the juicy meat. Their pad Thai with shrimp ($22.95) has the requisite elements needed for success: chewy noodles, enough sauce to cover the noodles without making them soggy, and crispy elements to add texture. I'm glad the chef was restrained in his use of tamarind, so the pad Thai wasn't too sour, the flavours were perfectly balanced. My first experience with guey tiew khaek or Islamic noodles ($17.95 for the veggies and tofu version) was not a success. Using the same rice noodles as pad Thai, they're covered with an overly sweet red curry, which really needed a spicier element to create harmony. If anything, the best part of the dish was the onsen egg, the molten yolk adding a creaminess to the curry noodles. For something spicy, the prik gaeng moo krob ($23.95) packs a punch and had me downing two glasses of water. A blistering hot curry paste covers fried and then stir-fried pork belly, soaking into the meat. While tasty, given the sauce was already oily, using pork belly as the protein made the dish too heavy, chicken and/or shrimp would be better. For a flavourful curry, I prefer the khao neow gaeng ($22.95). Slices of chicken and fresh pineapple are covered in a heat-filled yellow curry that's spicy but bearable. The sticky coconut rice sitting in the pineapple gets covered in the sauce but is not saturated and goes wonderfully with the chicken. Our table was impressed with the pad gra prao ($18.95), a plate of steamed rice topped with ample amounts of minced chicken flavoured with basil, onion, and chili. All at once spicy, salty, and sweet, it blends into one as the thick yolk oozes out of the fried egg. While the dish has a similar taste to the prik gaeng moo krob, the sweet element helps make this a more palatable dish. Despite having leftovers, we ordered the khao neow ma muang ($12.95) to share. One bite of the slightly salty mango coconut sticky rice and we were hooked. The sauce was warm and thin, so it coats the sticky rice so well. It's paired with soft mango slices that adds enough sweetness to remind you it's a dessert. read more

I love Thai food so when I heard about this restaurant, I had to check it out. We had a good experience overall and my only regret is I did not get to try the desserts at all. We were just too full and they had quite a few to choose from! The food and service came fast but they were super busy so reservations are highly recommended I thought the pad see moh beef and chicken pad Thai were pretty standard and tasty. The special menu chive dumplings are definately recommended and tasty. The mango salad was also pretty good. The pea color coconut rice with fish and boiled egg was interesting and pretty tasty with a spicy kick. At first I wasn't sure if I liked it since I don't like fish or boiled eggs much but then I ate like two bowls of it so I am pretty sure I became a fan. Don't let it deter you and just order it and try it! The only thing I don't recommend is the coconut soup as it was a bit salty and flavour was just okay. read more

The place is nicely decorated and gives a nice ambiance. I must say the music was a bit too loud and made it hard to have conversations during the meal and I went during lunch on a Saturday. The service was good and food came out relatively quick. Very flavourful and very delicious. I also got the Thai iced green tea which I didn't post but it was more bland than I thought as Thai tea, the bright orange one is super sweet. The green one is very watered down almost compared to the regular orange one. I would come back as the food was good and ask about when they do special nights with live entertainment. Haven't been to the location downtown but have heard good things and wanted to check out this new Scarborough location. It's located in the splendid china mall, and the restaurant space is pretty big. We tried some food and drinks and enjoyed everything we ate. The menu has a good selection of options and some dishes aren't typically seen at other Thai restaurants in the city. Service was good, it was pretty fast upon being seated and ordering. There were many tables seated in the restaurant when we dined in. We've ordered take out from here as well and it was packaged well, but I believe some things were missing the last time we ordered take out (like peanuts and sauce was missing for dishes that we had gotten previously). I like how the selection of Thai places are growing in Scarborough area and you don't need to go all the way downtown for some of the same meals! read more

Heard good things about this place- esp their downtown location and it's on the Michelin guide. I decided to try this Scarborough location with my family tonight. We ordered the spring rolls, fish cakes, pad Thai x2 ( shrimp and chicken) and khao soi beef. Spring rolls and fish cake came first and they were decent in taste however I didn't find them outstanding. The Khao soi beef was good in taste however, it lacked curry soup and actually cooked fresh noodles that's not fried. I literally had to dig to the bottom to find the actual cooked noodles and not the fried ones. The amount of beef was decent. However the amount of fried noodles and lack of curry soup base was disappointing. The pad Thais were both good, my parents likes it and so did my brother. My favourite Thai spot in Toronto has opened a location in Scarborough and I could not be happier. I LOVE Koh Lipe - the quality of their food is just amazing. I've had Thai food before but something about this spot just hits. My favourite dishes are the Khao Neow Gaeng (pineapple curry chicken with coconut sticky rice, presented in a pineapple), their pad thai, and the Khao Pad rice. One thing to be mindful of is the spice - even at the most mild level, a lot of their dishes are very spicy! If you're not keen on spicy food I'd stay away from anything marked "spicy". They get quite busy so a reso is a must, but it's very easy to book a spot on their website. I'll be back! read more

My family and I went here to celebrate a birthday and I'm glad they were able to accommodate such a big group. The place was bright and colourful, and our server was attentive and patient with us. Their drinks (blue margarita, pineapple mint smoothie and spicy-m sangria) were so refreshing and made perfectly. The desserts (mango sticky rice and durian sticky rice) are a must-try! It was creamy and sweet with tanginess from the mangoes and the durian added a mild vanilla flavour. The Khao Pad was packed with flavour with the curry and a hint of sweetness from the pineapples. The Pad See Ew was delicious but it was quite on the sweeter side. It had a nice charred smokey flavour. The Pad Gra Pao was quite salty and, in our opinion, could use more basil as the saltiness overpowered the basil. The Gai Tod Hat Yai was complemented perfectly with the crispy shallots and the mix of the earthiness of the coriander and cumin marinade. The Moo Tod was tasty and with a great crunchy texture. The chilli lime sauce was a nice addition of sweetness and tanginess. The Choo Chee Pla Too was a delicious and flavourful seafood dish. The coconut milk with the red curry paste is always a great combination. It's spicy so I wouldn't recommend if you can't handle the heat. The resto had a really nice cozy feel and is decorated nicely. Servers are all really friendly and know the menu very well. We ordered the Gui Chai Tod and Goong Moun for the appetizers. Both were super flavourful and delicious. The Gui Chai Tod had a really nice chewy texture and the Goong Moun was bursting with the filling. For our main dishes we went with the Pad Sam Mhen and the Pad Kee Mao. Again, the flavours were incredible and portions were fantastic. Where Im docking stars is the gratuity. When I went to pay, the options given were 18, 20 and 25%. I didn't like that the standard 15% was not an option displayed. It feels a little underhanded seeing that their website states that 18% is for tables of 6 and over and we were two. read more

Can't remember the names of everything as it was in Thai, but ordered a bunch of things to share: a squid and shrimp salad, chicken wings, crispy pork belly, curry chicken in pineapple w/ coconut rice, Islamic Noodles, Pad Kee Mao, stir fried seafood (Prik Pao Talay), shrimp with glass noodles. Overall, the food was very good. The wings and pork belly, were nicely fried and came with their own sauces. I quite liked the pineapple curry chicken with the coconut rice, but some found it a bit too sweet. The pad kee mao was really good, and the Islamic Noodles were interesting, cause not the usual Thai flavours. But everyone's favourite was the Prik Pao Talay. I came here with a friend who said this place was a Michelin star place (or was it just recommended to be a Michelin star? I'm still unsure). Anyways, we went on a Saturday evening before the dinner rush and was able to get in quickly. The decor is very nice and the service was fast and helpful as well. The food itself was great. I ordered the pad see ew and it was SO flavourful. Every single bite was bursting with flavour, it was amazing. My friend ordered the Khao pad pla. It was a huge amount of food and there was enough to take out. The only issue I had with it was that it tasted like too much ginger; jt would have been nice to taste the other flavors too. That said, I found it a bit spicy so maybe the spice hid all the flavours. We also ordered the moo tod as an appetizer it was nice and crunchy. I'm not sure how they cooked it because it wasn't super oily, but it was definitely good. I quite enjoyed everything here and would go again to try something different. read more

Brand new location at Scarborough located inside the Splendid China Plaza. Definitely a great addition. The Goong Moun is fried crispy skin tofu rolled with shrimp, carrot, betel leaf. It's a great unique appetizer. Unique where it's not available at other restaurants. The Tom Yum (seafood) with shrimp has a spicy note to it. Tasty to open up the appetite. Great ambiance and spacious seating. The Pad Kee Mao, I like the flat rice noodles, egg, so flavourful and different herbs. The Pad Gra Prao (spicy) is a good portion and delicious. This restaurant has an amazing atmosphere, very kind staff, and great food to go along with it. If you're someone who likes Thai food you should definitely try this place. The Moo Tod was good but not my favourite as it was a bit difficult to eat but still tasted good, strong teeth is a must if you are going to try this lol. The pineapple chicken curry was great as it got me scrapping the bottom of the pineapple looking for more and what was even better was the sticky rice which paired nicely with the curry. My favourite has got to be the seafood platter as the sauces paired so nicely with the white rice. Don't fall for the hype. The food is ok but not worthy of being featured on Michelin Guide and it was an overall odd dining experience. Food: Got pad Thai, Khao Soi and a saba fish fried rice. Pad Thai was good. Khao Soi was decent but very little soup and a bit on the saltier side. STAY AWAY from the fish fried rice with Bonito flakes. Easily the worst dish with fishy off-putting smell and odd combo of flavors. Also the most expensive. Service: while staff was friendly, they interuppted our meal and conversation several times, taking away plates and food we were done with. Tables are limited to 1.5 hours and that time goes fast but they are extremely abrupt about it instead of explaining that at the start. It felt extremely rushed and I did not enjoy the meal. TLDR: over rated. Eat anywhere else. read more

I booked a reservation here for a Friday night and was quick to be seated, otherwise it looked like there was a short 15-20min wait without reservations. The place is in Splendid China Mall and most other stores in the mall were closed. The menu is on a QR code at the table and easy to navigate. I loved that the drinks came quickly, and also food came within 20min of ordering! Not too long of a wait. The matcha Thai tea is something I would come back for! Both mains were flavourful, the pork jowl green curry being quite spicy but my friend loved it. Koh Lipe is Michelin recommended for a reason! I went to their Scarborough location and it definitely did not disappoint. We got these dishes: - Peek Gai Tom Yum: which is this delicious Tom yum flavoured fried chicken wings: super addictive flavours and really crispy - Gaeng Ka Ti Sa Tor Nua: their salivating coconut green curry with beef and plantain: I opted out of the stink beans but you are welcome to try it too! I got the medium spicy and I thought it was the perfect spice level for me. - Gaeng Keow Whan: also green curry and my friend got it with tofu. Somehow it tasted spicy and a little different. Can someone tell me why? - Pad Kee Map: classic flat noodle and it definitely had enough wok hai if you know what I mean. 11/10 and you have to get it with a little bit of spice - Pad See Ew: also another classic and I love the Chinese broccoli with it too Dessert: Mango Coconut Sticky Rice: my favorite Thai dessert and I love the coconut jelly they put on top too! The rice krispy topping too added a good texture to it too! I was not brave enough to try to durian coconut sticky rice but maybe next time 100% craving Koh Lipe again. Also got to mention that the service was super quick and staff and kitchen were all so nice ! We had to change our spice level for one of our dishes and they were able to do it for us so quickly! We went here because we love Thai food and this restaurant popped up in the Michelin's guide. Oh my god we are sorely disappointed. Let's start with reservation; just to have a reservation we had to give them their our credit card number. That's absurd but we let it slide. When we arrived, there was no menu. For something that's trying to be upclass with no menu is shameful and very pedestrian. So it's two strikes thus far. After we ordered, the main course arrived long before the appetizer, and after we finished the appetizer and nearly all of the main course, after being asked, only then the rest of the food came. None of the food was hot (temperature wise) with their coconut rice neither smelled nor tasted like coconut milk at all... and that's $4.50 for a small serving. Food quality itself? It's not bad, but not good either, not deserving Michelin star at all. Ambiance and service quality were poor too. Loud music forced is to almost practically talked loudly to one another... so pedestrian.. and the servers were walking around like a bunch of headless chickens truly killed what's left of the ambiance. So poor that I won't be back. Expecting a minimum of 18% tips for overpriced room temperature food, mediocre flavour, and clueless staff? Never again. Never ever ever EVER again. October 30, 2023 - Went here for dinner with some friends. I'm happy we went that day, because they had a live band and also dancers. It was quite beautiful to see. But kind of tough to hear the live band, the noise level of the restaurant was loud.. but it was overwhelming... just did t get to hear the introduction of the band or what he was singing. It was still wonderful to experience it. We ordered: 1 Tom Yum - Veggies Tofu 1 Moo Tod 2 Thai Iced Green Tea 1 Khao Soi - Braised Beef 1 Gaeng Keow Whan - Veggies Tofu 1 Khao Neow Ma Muang Everything was yummy! [Good] Goong Moun - Reminds me of those Chinese bean curd rolls from dim sum. You get 4 pieces that are nice and large, packed with ingredients inside a crispy skin. The dipping sauce adds some nice acidity. Peek Gai Tom Yum - Just like other reviewers have said, it's a must order. Wings are medium sized, fried perfectly and coated with the most delicious Tom Yum powder. Comes with sweet Thai chili sauce for dipping, which is good but not really necessary. Pad See Ew - Flavourful and good but nothing too unique. Kua Ling - Had to pick a Southern Thai dish considering that's what the restaurant says they want to highlight. This one is an apt alternative to my usual go-to at Thai restaurants, the Pad Gra Prao. It did not disappoint. For those who can handle spice, this one is on the spicier side but still enjoyable. Flavours are definitely there, though I would say it's a less complex flavour profile than the PGP. Still great though and I would order again. [Bad] Tom Yum soup - Underwhelming and probably the worst Tom Yum soup amongst the top Thai restaurants. It wasn't spicy enough and did not pack enough punch. Easy pass the next time around. [Service] Friendly and efficient. Timing could use some work. I would have preferred apps to come out first followed by the mains but everything basically came out all at once. We were only 2 people so the mains were cold by the time we got to it. [Worth it?] Definitely worth it! Portions are generous and final bill was only $76. Having Michelin Guide recommended Thai food in Scarborough is amazing, and Koh Lipe's new location is a true gem. Nestled away inside Splendid China Mall, the interior space has been totally revamped from its former status as an AYCE sushi spot. The decor is clean and modern, and the interior feels very spacious. Having been to their original Baldwin location, I can say the quality of the food is the same top-notch quality here. Prices are on the higher side compared to other nearby Thai places, but the portions are huge, very filling, and the quality justifies it. As we went during soft opening, service was slow and a bit chaotic, but wait staff were very friendly and I'm sure things will become more organized. All in all a great experience, will be sure to come back to try more of their dishes. read more

Had the braised beef mas sa man curry and half of the meat was all gristle and chewy connective tissue. The red curry lacked the depth and complexity of flavor compared to other Thai restaurants. My last review I gave 4 but this time I'll give a 5. This Thai food is soooo good. Service is good but nothing outstanding but the food makes up For it though. The Pla Goong salad is my FAV. Order this with some sticky rice or coconut rice and that's a meal in itself. Soooo flavourful, huge portion DELISH I get this every time. Same with the Tom yum chicken wings. My man destroys these, and craves them on the regular. He would drink this tamarind sauce that comes with it. Pork belly was nice and crispy too and not too fatty. Pad See Ew was soooooo good. I wish I got it spicer but still BOMB would eat this over and over again. The pineapple chicken curry was good but spicy!!! It only comes in spicy but it's really good.
