Family had to recently endure a furnace install to finally replace the one that came with the house that my parents bought with hard earned money close to 50 years ago. Be prepared to sacrifice your major limbs to pay for this with this local company. ONLY VISA cards or PERSONAL CHECKS are accepted. Half of the payment is required to start the job. Remaining balance is paid after installation is completed. If you're priority is scheduling time for this and working with a tight budget it would be best to look for other heating companies that can FIT your requirements. You will get a summarized statement of work which is considered a contract. No itemizations of exact cost or hourly rate listed in the contract. Just an amount of what it will cost. You will get a spiel of what your first half of your money will be used for such as heating inspectors, debris removal, and permits, etc,. Also, the guarantee that work done would be up to regulation code. This is important for a homeowner as you can get majorly fined in the future if installation was not done properly. No price match will be given to a competing company. Basically, haggling will not make a difference. Make sure to monitor these expenses as well as actual tasks and actual crew that do the work. Removal, cleanup and installation went longer than the three or four days estimation of completion. Removal was done by another vendor specialized in hazardous materials. A previous customer had an emergency so this crew had to attend to it. Several days pass until the crew comes back to continue and finish the install. Luckily, during the week that this occured the weather was still warm and no space heaters were needed to keep the house warm. The crew of two to three people did a decent job, but one crew member needs to be more meticulous on the task at hand. You as the homeowner need to ask and comment on things getting completed. If it looks crooked or questionably placed speak up and either get it adjusted or keep an eye on it in case it affects other pipes close by. The crew are experienced as well as the contracted electrician that worked on the wiring and checking of the new thermostat. The electrician was thorough in testing functionality and overall completion. The cleanup after each end of the day by the crew was decent. Explanations and practical suggestions shared by them were appreciated. Overall, the guarantee of the installation was mentioned to be a year from installation. Heating is now dispersed efficiently throughout the house and quality of materials used is comparable to other vendors. The owner of the company does a walk through as the final inspection with you as well as review of the manuals that come with the furnace and thermostat. A recommendation of furnace filters is mentioned and the suggested type to use for your home environment. Unfortunately, a reusable filter of equal rating for normal use was thrown away without being notified if it was desired to be kept. These types of reusable furnace filters are NOT CHEAP. They come in different types and ratings so if you have one make sure it doesn't get tossed. The company owner is personable in nature and is helpful on recommendations regarding contractors used on installations. Only the constant promise of either stopping by to drop a receipt never occured. It took several phone calls to remind him, but still a no show and numerous responses of the days travails of why he could not send or drop a receipt by. The receipt was sent over through email finally, but it took numerous corrections to get the actual total amount listed. That is the only thing that is correct in the generic receipt received. Customer name was never corrected and no specific description on what the payment was for on the receipt as well as actual date it was paid. The date listed was when the receipt was sent. Plus I had to do a file conversion each time to check it as the receipt was in a macOS format. Do your homework and be knowledgeable on what type of furnace your paying for and its functional rating. In the end no heating inspectors came and the constant reminder of a receipt of payment took close to a week and half to finally receive by email. You do the math on this one. Makes you wonder what you really paid for was worth it with the amount of time and waiting endured as well as installation being up to city code specs. read more

After our old and inefficient gas-powered hot air furnace broke down we wanted to remove it completely from the house and rely on other methods for heating our house. I originally thought the HVAC system at my house was very old and was worried there may be asbestos that could be airborne or anything that might break down, and there were many chilly mornings lately, so I had to find a heater specialist. I found Kohler Heating through Yelp and I'm so glad I did! I learned that they're a family business, which means they know all there is to know about heating and more! I worked with Bill, who was extremely professional from the start and explained everything to me thoroughly. On the first call, he gave me the basics over the phone and told me to keep an eye on the filter and to change if necessary. I really appreciate that he explained things to me, which most people would not do on the first call. He asked me to send detailed videos and photos of my heating system, which I did. To my surprise, Bill immediately called me back the next day to explain everything to me based on the photos. He assured me that the system looks pretty good to use and that he can try to come out to do an in-person assessment. He even gave me some advice about my water heater! Before we were scheduled to meet, I had more questions and decided that I could try to email him along with photos. I figured he might not reply since it's a bit of a bother without my business, but I wanted to try. Turns out, he called back the next morning and reassured me of my worries. He's quick to evaluate and reply, which I am thankful for! So the time comes for the scheduled appointment with Bill. He gave me a 3-hour timeframe, but arrived a little earlier than his approximate time, which I really appreciate! I don't like to wait all day for technicians and Mr. Fixits, but Bill was great about it and called me to see if it was okay to arrive a little early. When Bill was doing the assessment, he looked at the heating system and all the vents around my house. He did this all patiently and explained every bit of it to me. He was completely honest with me every step of the way and did not pressure me to make a sale. Even when my boyfriend had additional questions, he answered everything clearly and kindly. He gave me more knowledge and gave us some peace of mind. The ultimate thing I appreciate about Bill is that he took time to help me and didn't expect any business out of me. I had Bill and his team out to install a new Ecobee4 smart thermostat in my home - and, unfortunately, the installation was nothing but simple, due to the fact that my thermostat wire only had two leads and had been spliced multiple times. The weather had turned cold and my furnace wouldn't start. Called them late on a Wednesday and Bill showed up first thing Thursday morning. He diagnosed the problem as just a wire that got disconnected, and fixed it. Here's the shocker: he offered to do it free of charge because it was so minor! OK, If you want a TOTALLY trust worthy guy for all your heating needs, look no further! Bill Kohler is the genuine deal! My son accidentally had pulled the handle off the stove, and it fell down the heater vent. I was afraid to turn the heat on, (A really cold SF morning), because of it. I called up Bill and he assured me that it would be fine. I said I was still a little nervous, and that I also needed him to check out why my heat wasn't getting all the way up to the top level of the house. He said he was very busy, but that he would try to fit me in this week.... We set the appointment up last friday, him saying he would be here Monday, between 10:00 and 2:00... Here's astonishing news...he showed up at exactly at 10:00am on the nose! (When ever do you hear that some business with a window of 10-2 comes first thing in the am?) That was really great. Anyway, he looked at my ducts, and said it would cost way too much for me for him to try to get the handle out of the system because of the sheetrock. He suggested that I should just get another handle. He even gave me the name of a place where I could get another. He then opened a shut valve that will now give me heat to the top level of the house!:) Bill was probably at my house for a 1/2 hour, he said, "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! No Charge!"
