I don't shop at Kohl's very often, but sometimes I just can't resist a good white sale. I like this Kohl's. There is a lot of parking and two floors of affordable clothing, accessories, and housewares. This one time...I couldn't figure out what to get my step-dad for Christmas. What does one buy for a farmer/truck driver who spends most of his time in jeans, dirty t-shirts, and velcro shoes?? I decided that I would buy him a sweater. Even though his style is more trailer park casual, sometimes he likes to dress up and look nice...like when my mom drags him to the community theater. My plan was to walk into Kohl's and buy the ugliest sweater that I could find. I love my family very much, but our tastes in clothes (and everything else, really) are so very different. I found this Bill Cosby reject sweater in the most horrible colors...sort of a fall palate...kind of poo colored shades. I cringed a little when I gave it to him, but he held it up and everyone the room...my aunts, my uncles, my sister-in-law, even the kids...they all gasped! I wondered if it was a good gasp or a bad gasp. Then someone said "Oh, that's BEAAAAAUUUUUTIFUL!!!!!!" My mom gave me the you-shouldn't-have-spent-so-much-on-such-a-nice-sweater look while everyone oooooh'ed and aaaahhhh'ed. My step-dad actually liked it! I was golden. Thanks Kohl's!!!! read more

Waiting in line at Kohls at 1am is a social experiment I reluctantly participated in. After waiting in line for 45 min, the girl at the furthest west register couldn't scan any items with her scanner. She said she would have to manually enter everthing. With a cranky 3 year old, I asked her to please transition me to another register. She shooed me " just go ahead". I again asked her to transition me so that it didn't appear like i was cutting in line. She smirked and said "you can just go ahead". I asked for a manager because she was falling short of providing any customer service. MANAGER SARAH ARRIVES. When I explain (see above), MANAGER SARAH IS DEFENSIVE, CONDESCENDING, AND ANIMATED stating " Oh we'll get YOU over to another register" When I asked MANAGER SARAH why wasn't this done initially, she acted shocked, bugging her eyes at me, and began to reprimand me saying "FIRST OF ALL..." AT NO POINT DID MANAGER SARAH APOLOGIZE. EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES BUT THE FACT THAT MANAGER SARAH CANNOT APOLOGIZE IS EGREGIOUS. While I spent 2 hours finding presents and standing in line, I decided to not buy anything. My 3 year old daughter was being so good through the long wait in line and the incompetence of the girl at check out and MANAGER SARAH. I decided to leave my cart and the 100's I was going to spend. As a mother, I will not let my daughter see me be so rudely disrespected and then hand over money. I don't pay to be mistreated. You don't deserve anyone's money you disrespect. I found so many amazing deals at this Kohl's, it was unbelievable! It is also nice because this location is in the middle of the city so you can pretty much get here easily from all sides. The older ladies in my family are really into Kohl's thus I tend to get Kohl's gift certificates for presents. Not to be ungrateful but I am at a loss as to what they see in this place. The clothes are weird and fugly. It's like lame knock-offs of Target clothes, stuff that's almost in fashion but not quite. It's like the Christian rock of discount department stores. The same goes for the housewares. Everything is in icky colors and patterns. And what's up with the makeup section? Why on earth would I buy make-up at near Sephora prices from a store with really ugly clothes? However, they do have a nice selection of As-Seen-on-TV household appliances and I got an awesome vegetable cutter thingy there, so two stars for that. read more

I feel a little guilty for criticizing a business from which I bought nothing, but GOD I TRIED, for a solid hour, to find something that I wanted to wear. A close call came when I stumbled on the puffy winter coats under Kohl's only halfway decent label, Apartment 9. But, I don't usually wear black, and the only other "color" was a depressing gray/green/beige that should never have been committed to a textile. That's a constant with Kohl's offerings: lackluster tailoring and color. I can imagine a meeting at some apparel manufacturer in Guangdong where the buyer says "can you make the sweaters a little baggier and more dirt-colored?" Kohl's, you took an hour of my life. Regardless of what any other review says on here, this Kohl's store is one of the most organized and cleanest Kohl's stores you will ever visit. I've worked at Kohl's as a manager. I've been to countless Kohl's stores, and I will personally attest to the high standards of this store. Kudos to the management team and team members of this store. If one of you ever reads this, GREAT job! I don't know how you do it, as I quit my job because it was just too dang hard to rise to the ridiculously high expectations Kohl's sets forth, but no matter what anyone (coporate, your DM, a disgruntled customer) tells you, you are doing a great job. I love me some Lauren Conrad, Vera Wang, and Daisy Fuentes! So I actually really like Kohl's. I love that there is a parking lot so you dont have to worry about that. I honestly do most of my shopping online because there is more of a selection, but occasionally go to the store. What is there not to like about almost everything in the store on sale? They really have a lot of the current trends for a real reasonable price. The quality of most of the things in the store is average. Its not amazing, but its not junk either. I absolutely love the "hassle-free" returns! I bought the cutest pair of flats and a piece of the detailing came off after wearing them for about 1 hour...BOO. Now most places would never take the shoes back because I wore them...GASP! But, Kohl's gladly replaced them! How awesome is that. read more

Online orders from Kohl's are a nightmare, at least if the item is heavy and bulky. I ordered a shoe storage unit and then realized it was too big. I used Kohl's online chat to cancel the order and the agent told me it was cancelled -- I have the chat transcript. But Kohl's delivered it anyway and refused to do anything to help me deal with it. I managed to get it to the store and a superstar Kohl's employee tried to help me, but I still don't have a refund. There is some problem with refunding the order despite the fact that I had never opened the item, was within the 180 day return window, and provided my receipt. The only reason I'm giving this two stars instead of one is the great employee who really tried to resolve this. This was my first experience with Kohl;s online and it is my last experience with Kohl's ever. read more

In my opinion, this particular Kohl's is a fine example of how a dept. store chain can come into a city this large and stay clean and well stocked. Often my partner and I prefer to go to a suburban store because the shelves aren't picked clean as if we were living in a resettlement camp, for god's sakes. When I go to other stores such as the Target on Elston, I feel like I need to make sure my shots are up to date because I am entering a g.d. Third World country. In fact, you have to have a game plan for when you think the shelves will be stocked and the parking lot available. I have friends who actually get up at the crack ass of dawn on a Saturday to get to Target by 8 a.m. when they open the doors. NO effing way am I going to resort to that. Back to Kohl's. Every time I go, there is plenty of merchandise; the dressing rooms are clean; the bathrooms are clean; there is plenty of parking. True - they need more cashiers and they need more shopping carts, but I am highly impressed with their ability to stay stocked and clean. Can you teach the other chains how to do this, please? I must admit - I don't buy work clothes there. The quality is not there for me. But hell, I don't know why I even said that as I went to stupid Macy's last week and tried on wool dress slacks that were $129 and were not even LINED! WTF? But damn - every time they have a sale (which is, what? Every week?) and I have a 20-30% off coupon in my grubby little hands, I feel like I have stolen from them. (Most recent purchase: top of the line, 19 inches off the ground, queen size self inflating in 60 second air mattress normally $300............I got it for $112 - free shipping and I got it in THREE days!) You can buy t-shirts for 5 bucks, and underwear for more. There is almost too much clothing. And it is mostly tacky but sometimes you can find cute skirts. An odd mannequin of a girl in a wheelchair. Despite their inclusive spirit, the staff seem disgruntled. I saw a manager berating an employee right in front of me. Guess she wasn't Kohl's material. You get a candy bar if they don't give you a receipt. A jumbo candy bar. They have kitchen appliances and cheesy dishware. They're from Wisconsin. There is parking. I always shop herr because they have great insentives for tgeir clients. Clearance rack is great here lots of work clothes. This location is a little run down. Yes alot fo the good stuff is gone just like with any of the citys other clothing stores marshals tjs ect... I wanna talk about an exceptional experience that I had. I bought a sweater for an last min Xmas day gift low and behold i didnt notice it was dmaged so I ended up not gifting it. Somewhere along the hustle and bustle of the holiday season I had misplaced it. Uh ooh and surprise the 50 $ sweater was now on sale 32$. I was beyond P.O. all I had found was a 10$ kohl's cash that I had gotten. At the time of purchase . Yadira was amazing she took care of me so well.she was able to look up my purchase some how. All the other customer service mangers took note at this lady who would go to a length to help a customer. She also was able to use my khols cash. I am more then happy with my experience here. Came in to the store to exchange some pants for my 5 year old daughter and was amaze on how clean and organize it was, I have always shop at the kohls at the Lincolnwood mall and from now on i am changing from store. It was so easy to find everything I needed, When in and out and found more pants then I did at the Lincolnwood mall location. read more

This locations appears to have better organizations and the staff seems to be responsive to your needs. There are two (2) stairs and the women and juniors are on the first floor. Those departments are where I usually spend the most time browsing through the racks. Unlike TJ Maxx, Marshall's and Ross Dress for Less, the staff is really quick to clean and re-organize the racks when necessary. Therefore, you don't need to seek your bargains on the floors! This also reduces the chances that garments are getting torn or damaged. The cashier who assisted me told me about the survey and asked me if I wanna do it right away. I wasn't in a hurry so I immediately agreed. It was funny that because i overheard the shift manager wrapped in with his associates about the importance of surveys. I realized this can be important to the store and business itself so I don't mind filling it out. It did mine on my I-pad mini because there's free guest wifi available and was actually working!! kohl's can be a great place to shop if you utilize the resources they have well (ex. Kohl's charge, coupons, and kohl's cash). I purchased lots of work outfits there, but you need to patiently browse through all sections, which requires TIME. Don't go there if you're under time crunch because it will make your shopping difficult! I normally go out of Chicago city limit to shop at other kohl's locations for the lower sales tax. I, however, will start coming to the this location. If you travel by public transportation, there's no stop on Elston. The best bet is to take the El to Paulina Brown line and take bus 9 that drops off on Ashland/Elston. My route today was to take CTA bus 50 southbound and gets off at damen/Webster. However, I don't recommend the latter route at night or after sundown because you have to walk underneath the Kennedy Expressway, which may be too shady to walk and you can encounter the homeless, unfortunately. read more

For cute, quality kids clothes you can't beat Kohl's. It seemed like I just stocked up on stuff for baby girl back in October and her pants were already flooding and her tops were turning into midriffs. Not a good look for a diva-in-training. They have a great selection of OshKosh, Carters, Levis, character clothing (ie Dora, Disney Princesses etc...) and off-brand lines. What's even better are the crazy sales. I'm usually not a fan of Kohls but when I was searching for some cheap basics. I basically found what I wanted quickly. Unlike some of their other locations, this one has a lot of sizes available. The store was clean and stuff was easy to find. They did seem to have a lot of stuff on sale but I really didn't take the time to see what was on sale. For those of you who are looking for cheap basics, check them out. But I wouldn't recommend for looking for cute, trendy items. Also, minus one star for only having one cashier area per floor. read more

Kohls is a place you need to go when you have a coupon and on Bonus Buy days to maximize your savings. They have really nice stuff for kids. Home items are nice for basics. I am generally pleased with this store, both as a chain and this particular store. Clothes and other items are mostly neatly organized and well-stocked. They carry the first pair of jeans that fit me very well (Levis 529s FTW) and I also got a STEAL of a deal on an Asian cleaver-type knife that had been $140...for less than $40. This is also a good place to pick up staples like t-shirts - their Apt. 9 line is especially good - and some work clothes. Issues: I've bought sheets here before and oddly, both sets of the on-sale Martex sheets will notnotnot stay on my bed. I think they shrunk something fierce. That is my only glaring disappointment with Kohl's, which could easily be more of an issue for Martex instead. Another beef I have is that it looks like Food Network exploded upstairs in the kitchen area. Aside from a few cheap-looking house brands of serveware and a few Fiestaware selections, FN has a strangle hold on this place. If you want a Bobby Flay salad bowl for $40, go ahead, but I will steer clear. I like their emails and I like being made aware of sales, but like clockwork, I get a Kohl's email probably 4 days out of the week, every morning. That's too much for my taste, but there doesn't appear to be an option to scale it down without totally opting out. *shrug* Whatever. I only have one reason to dislike Kohl's. It all comes down to pants. Back in the day while i college, I used to work at Kohl's. Now I have no interest in buying much of the items they sell, but it was a job. However, every single pair of pants they have ever sold have the same exact inseam. Why? Why kohl's do you think women are all the same height? It's like you want to punish me or something for being *different* then all the rest. Again, it just really erks me that the entire store is filled with pants that are for women with a 32 inseam. Come on, really guys? To me, that means Kohl's purposely chooses to miss an entire demographic because they don't want money. I hate you Kohl's! read more

What should have been a 4 star review got bumped down one star for incorrect advertisements throughout the store. They put up the wrong sale signs and it was too much of a hassle to try and adjust the price as they can only do in the Customer Service area. Decent selection of items. Great home goods department where you can usually find most items on sale. If it's not on sale when you go, wait it out a week and more than likely it'll be on sale then. I'm not a big fan of their clothing, nor shoes, as it's not really my style. Have to agree with what others said about parking. Definitely a crazy maze, but hey at least they have it. It can be difficult to find an employee when you have a question at times, but generally when you do find one, they are pleasant. read more

Alright it is time to confess, I subsidize my trips to GQ type stores by saving some cash shopping at Kohls. They seem to always have sales and even though I don't like much of their fashion selections, I find ample accessories items that save me some cash. They also have good deals on items for the home. Now as for this location, I do like the set up and they always seem to keep it in order. My trip was mostly to find some professional clothing but I didn't really find it. The clothes they had were either too young (teens) for me or too old (like 30s...). Kohl's is a little stupid because at any given moment 90% of the inventory is on sale. This one's no different. It took me a long time to find the two pieces of an off-the-rack suit I bought because the trouser rack had wayyy too many pairs in it all squeezed together so tight it could probably make a diamond outta coal. And the sizes were all jumbled and out of order. I came in very early on a Sunday morning so I know it wasn't other customers that messed it up that day. They should have fixed that rack before opening the store. Despite my gripes with the place, I generally am fine with their mediocre clothes... it's the price range I'm happy with. It's still way above Wal-mart. Nice parking lot though. read more

I've been to this Kohl's a couple times, and it's always been pretty mellow (even on Sunday). Everything was well organized and there was no wait for cashiers. Kohl's in general is a great store that operates in a niche similar to Sears but more clothing heavy. I tend to find fairly well made clothes (considering the price) cheaper than anywhere else (for the quality level). Sometimes you can get deals on home goods as well. What can I say, I grew up in Milwaukee, so shopping here and at Menard's keeps me buying local (sorta), yet I can benefit from a large corporation's economy of scale to save money. Let's call shopping at Kohl's morally neutral at worst (as long as you avoid buying Chinese and contributing to the trade deficit). read more

Customer Service on the phone will disconnect you if you have a problem that they don't know how to answer. Forget about trying to get a rebate. After waiting 3 months, I still have to call in every week to see where my rebate is. No one knows anything, you will be transferred around or disconnected. I will never buy anything using their credit card. Pay with your own card and forget about their bonus points. Cheap stuff that breaks. read more
