I have eaten sushi all over the world. The sushi this restaurant was all extremely fishy. Fresh fish is not supposed to be fishy in every piece that I ordered from tuna to salmon to yellowtail. Toro was off super fishy. Their appetizer of crab Rangoon's was good, but other than that, I wouldn't recommend it. We originally came to KOI because we love sushi, but over time we discovered that the restaurant offers far more than an extensive sushi menu. The combination of Japanese and Thai cuisine, handcrafted cocktails, creative appetizers, attentive service, and one of the most distinctive dining rooms in Ponte Vedra Beach makes KOI a restaurant that works for almost any occasion. The first thing guests notice is the enormous underwater video wall. Tropical fish, sea turtles, coral reefs, dolphins, sharks, and other marine life move slowly across the display, creating an atmosphere that feels peaceful and immersive. Peter is an avid scuba diver, so this has always been one of his favorite features. The comfortable booths, attractive table settings, warm lighting, and thoughtful décor add to the experience. One of our favorite ways to begin is with the KOI Sampler. It includes Thai egg rolls, coconut shrimp, Crab Rangoon, fresh spring rolls, and chicken sticks served with peanut and garlic sauces. It is beautifully presented and offers enough variety for everyone at the table to find a favorite. The Garlic Edamame is another appetizer we order regularly. We spent years trying to find a version that compared with one we loved at a sushi restaurant up north, and KOI finally ended that search. The garlic is distributed evenly, the seasoning is balanced, and the bowl tends to disappear quickly. We also enjoy ordering the Crab Rangoon separately. The wonton exterior is consistently crisp, the filling is creamy without being overly heavy, and the presentation shows that KOI gives familiar appetizers the same attention it gives its signature entrées. Susan's favorite dish is the Tom Kha Soup, which earned one of our Best of the Best Awards. The coconut-based broth is creamy, aromatic, and comforting. Mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers are served in larger pieces than we normally find elsewhere, adding texture and allowing the vegetables to retain their flavor. Susan first discovered Tom Kha Soup at KOI, and after trying it throughout Florida, this remains the version against which she judges all others. The sushi menu is extensive, and over the years we have tried almost every specialty roll offered. Remarkably, we have never been disappointed. The Pink Lady Roll is wrapped in pink soy paper and filled with tuna, salmon, eel, avocado, seaweed salad, and masago. The presentation is beautiful, but the careful balance of flavors is what earned it a Best of the Best Award. The Lobster General Roll also received our highest dish recognition. It combines lobster tempura, spicy tuna, and avocado inside, then adds crawfish salad, spicy mayo, and eel sauce on top. Susan loves the lobster and spicy tuna, while Peter loves crawfish, making this a roll that brings together both of our preferences. The most dramatic dish of our visit was the Whole Red Snapper with Authentic Thai Red Curry Sauce. The whole fish arrives looking like a culinary centerpiece. The snapper was moist, tender, flaky, and remarkably fresh. Its red curry sauce, prepared with Thai garlic paste, fresh ginger, broccoli, zucchini, peppers, and other vegetables, added warmth and depth without overpowering the delicate fish. The combination of beautiful presentation and exceptional preparation made this another Best of the Best recipient. The Mongolian Beef was an equally memorable surprise. Peter had stopped ordering the dish years ago after repeatedly failing to find one that compared with a favorite restaurant from his college days. KOI's tender marinated beef and balanced sauce brought those memories back with the first bite. Learning that preparation begins the day before helped explain the tenderness and depth of flavor. KOI's cocktail program deserves recognition as well. The Prickly Pear is colorful and refreshing, combining prickly pear vodka, tequila, and simple syrup with an edible wildflower garnish. The Sicilian Summer, one of KOI's newest creations, blends white rum, mango rum, fresh lime juice, and triple sec, then finishes the drink with rosemary and lime. It is bright, tropical, and balanced. The Thai Basiltini combines muddled Thai basil, agave syrup, vodka, and pineapple juice. It has a refreshing herbal aroma that connects beautifully with the restaurant's Thai personality. The popular Lychee Martini is smooth, lightly sweet, and made with fresh lychee juice, lime juice, and vodka. Service has remained friendly and attentive. I've visited Koi sushi a few times now, and each time has been absolutely amazing. I've had the hibachi dinners which are always fresh and amazingly flavorful, and on this visit I had the deluxe sashimi. The dinner included some of the freshest raw fish that I've ever had, and it comes out in a high-end presentation with a touch of dry ice which creates an incredible experience. Services always top notch and pricing is incredibly reasonable. The ambiance is quite classy. We were there during a world cup game and they had it up on a huge screen. We ordered a few things. Each of our dishes were good. I did order my noodle dish with a medium spice but it came out mild Because if the world cup match, our server seemed a bit distracted. I have done takeout from Koi Sushi multiple times because I believe it's the best sushi in the Ponte Vedra area. Yesterday, I finally had a chance to dine inside their dining room, and it completely enjoyed the experience. The remodeling they have done is fantastic, and the overall atmosphere is excellent. I was driving home from Orlando today and wanted to pick up some good Asian food for dinner. I checked out Yelp to find a good place close to Nocatee and this place popped up. After reading some of the reviews, I decided to give it a try. The menu offers plenty of sushi, Thai and hibachi choices. I decided to go with two hibachi dinners for me and my husband. It was a great decision. I got one filet dinner and one combo dinner with chicken and shrimp. That way we could share all three proteins. The dinners also came with a ton of mixed grilled vegetables, rice, soup and salad. Everything looked and tasted great. The take out containers were also probably the nicest I have ever seen. Let me take you step-by-step on what I experienced today. Me and my friend wanted to go grab some food. We were in the mood for sushi. The closest place was this location. We honestly were excited just for the sushi part of it but once we got here we parking lot was packed so we were like wow OK that's a good sign and then we walked in look so modern dark fancy and just honestly a little bougie and it was VERY unexpected. Then the guy which was the assistant manager smiled at us greeted us and basically could tell we were having a good time just for a few seconds and definitely invited us over to look around and ask us if it's our first time, then sat us down, then the waitress pretty much blessed us with service, presentation, and enlightenment. Also the food is so fresh like no other around this area and I honestly I'm so glad I came because this is going to be my location for recommendation when it comes to eating out with family and friends cause I know this gonna satisfy those needs and and I truly wrote this message to let not only the staff know but everyone else know around the area that this actually is the new thing here definitely want to see this business. Don't let the drab outside fool ya. I avoided this new spot because it was several unsuccessful restaurants in the past. A friend talked me into trying this new place so conveniently located to Nocatee on US1 in a small strip center. Koi has only been open a month but if the experience continues it will be here years to come. When you walk inside you are blown away by how nice it is. There's a sushi bar, booths, tons of uplighting & chandeliers. There's a giant screen on the wall that was showing video of undersea creatures and then switched to birds. The menu has sushi, Thai & a few Chinese dishes like General Tso chicken. It's a pretty diverse menu & has something for everyone even if they don't eat sushi like my dining companion. It was lunchtime so we ordered from the lunch specials menu. I had 2 sushi rolls ( spicy tuna & tuna with avocado) which comes with soup or salad for $12. I also could not resist ordering my favorite Thai dish,Tom Kai Gai soup. After adding a squeeze of lime and hot chili it was absolutely delicious! My soup was a nice size bowl( i believe it was $8). My dining companion ordered the General Tso chicken which came with a bowl of rice and soup or salad as well for $14. Both were a great value. My sushi was beautifully prepared and tasty. My friend said although the GTC was good she would not order it again. Before we even had a chance to order our server brought over a complementary appetizer. It was very tasty. I believe it was fried crab roll. I like the way this place pays attention to details for instance the nice chop sticks not those cheap wooden ones that splinter. Also, the takeout bag was so nice ( I was too full to finish my food) I'd use it again as a tote. When you first walk in you get very impressed by their decor, especially when you know what the restaurant was there prior. Then you're wowed by their food, there was 14 of us for lunch and everyone loved their meals, both sushi and hibachi style meals. The best part was the service, maybe it's because they're new but we had 3 or 4 people waiting on us. It was superb. I just found our new Sushi/thai go to restaurant. Amazing experience here! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. We started the evening with hot sake and takoyaki, and that combination was perfect. The takoyaki were crispy on the outside, soft inside, and paired so well with the warm sake -- such a great way to start the meal. For sushi, we ordered the Fire Dragon Roll, Angel Hair Roll, and Dancing Eel Roll, and they were incredible. If you love creamy, rich sushi rolls with lots of flavor, these are definitely the ones to try. We ordered Thai Fried Rice with Scallop, Sizzling Mongolian Beef and Pai Thai with Tofu. Serving was big for 1 person. Each entree can be shared between 2 people. We had plenty leftovers to take home. Since we were full from just our soups, free appetizer and our entrees, we end up ordering the chocolate lava cake to go. This isa review of the sushi only. I didn't try any thing else. It was not good. The roll should have had Salmon. I didn't see any. I pointed this out to the waiter. He said it was there. Usually one is able to see the ingredients. The roll itself was not tasty. The other roll that we ordered was suppose to have tempura shrimp. We only saw a tiny shrimp tail shell, no meat on it. The spicy salmon was a paste. The whole thing fell apart upon trying to pick it up. I wanted to love it I did like the decor.
