I live in the area and I've been to this place about 10 times and so I feel ready to review it. The ambience is first rate, the food is excellent and the cocktails are amazing. The service is the problem. This place could be so great if it just had a manager on site who would make sure that the tables in the bar are being paid attention to. The bartenders are overwhelmed and just don't pay attention to customers. Same happens if you have a table. I went to speak to the manager yesterday and let him know, and he seemed to be fed up with the place too. It's not the servers fault. It's management. I really want this place to succeed because coconut grove needs a fun easy place like this. But unless they want to serve just one-off visits from tourists, they need to step up their service game. read more

Second time here, sat at the bar this time as we enjoyed the insider decor and lighting. Sunday night, open tables and open seats at the bar so we decided to try the bar as a group of 3 since those said it was 20 minutes for a table (turned out over na hour until they texted us). The Bartender took our initial order then ignored us the rest of the night. We tried multiple times to order food and even another round of drinks. The bar back was more attentive The first round drinks were short, for $17+ per cocktail I'd expect a property made and poured cocktail, more than 3 sips. Tucked into a pocket of a quiet area in the Grove, the ambiance of Koko is of course beautiful. The restaurant has been quite full each time we have been, but there had never been a wait. The food is good, nothing impressive to be honest. I hate to say, but the price is pretty hefty for the portion size. They've been out of the insects or not serving at the times we have gone which has been at both lunch & dinner time. Was visiting from out of town and joined my family today for some tapas and drinks. Since the restaurant is still new I was informed that the drink menu is still not out yet but I was able to have a watermelon margarita with mezcal and wow was it delicious. For the food I was able to try the carnitas tacos, guacamole, ceviche, queso fundido with chorizo, and churros. I don't normally leave reviews, but thanks to the great food, drinks, ambiance and our server Mariah - my family left the restaurant with the urge to come back again and explore the menu further. read more

We had reservations for our group of 7 for 8:30. We arrived and were told our table would not be ready for twenty minutes. However, we could have an outside table. Given it was very cold and there are no heat lamps, we said, we would wait. We consistently were told our table would be ready and saw one that was supposed to be ours according to the waiter. Then, the hostess sat a group that showed up exactly when we did without reservations and who had an outside table in 'our' table. At 9:15 pm, we could not get an answer of when we would get a table so we left and will never return. Unfortunately, Koko is not dependable. read more

I have nothing but good things to say about this place! I went with an open mind since I know it recently opened. We had reservations and were seated right away even though we had arrived a bit earlier. I wish I would remember our waitress's name because she was just AWESOME! The decor is beautiful and the food was excellent. We had the guacamole, a corn with cotija dish (I don't remember the name now), the queso fundido with chorizo, and for entrees the skirt steak tacos and the Chile verde enchiladas. All absolutely delicious. The queso fundido took a little while to come out (which was not an issue), but our waitress was kind enough to bring us complimentary tequila shots to make up for it. As for drinks, they do not have an official drink menu yet, but I tried both a classic margarita with mezcal and a watermelon margarita and both were delicious. I strongly recommend this place and can't wait to come back once they have a drink menu! read more

We had early dinner and would like to provide a little feedback to the restaurant as we would like to return. The setting is nice and the food was tasty. Small condiment tray was a nice touch so that you can adjust seasoning to your liking. Our main issue was the service. When we dined, the place was not even busy but it took a long time to get water, drinks and our food. We also had a wrong plate delivered to us so we had to wait even more to get what we ordered. The service also has a little rough and abrupt feel to it. Given that the place has generous feel to it, we expected the service to match that. That was not the case. What a lovely addition to the Grove eating scene. We ordered the roasted chicken, Chilean sea Bass, tacos of grasshoppers and another plate of mushroom and mole, and Cesar salads. This place was a cool set up with indoor outdoor seating with a bar in the middle connecting the two. Our server was busy but never made us feel neglected. The food was delicious and came out quickly. Best enchiladas I've ever had. We experienced Koko by bakans grand opening weekend and while space was limited due to the amount of people we were seated at the bar where our bar tender Bruno provided us with a memorable experience as he was very kind and respectful considering the amount of orders being fulfilled. I will give them the excuse of only being open for four days. Service was BAD, took a LONG time to get water and our drinks. Had to get up and get another plate and silverware for the appetizers. They brought three dinners out, about five minutes later another two came out, five minutes later we had to ask for the last dinner, which was a salad. During dinner we asked for water took five minutes to get it, the first time they guy came with an empty water bottle. We sat outside and it was very hot, fan wasn't working. I'll start by saying the food is okay, I've definitely had better but also worse. However the service was horrible. Sat down at 7:45 as a party of two, ordered a round of drinks and guacamole. Our entrees did not come out until 9, holy moly. Or waiter brought more guacamole and chips to say sorry for the long wait, but we were taken back as the table next to us sat after and got their tomahawk steak and finished eating well before our entrees came out. Here's where things get bad, which is why I'm giving two stars. My friend ordered the whole red snapper listed at market price. Okay this isn't our first rodeo, I understand it's Miami and a trendy ambiance restaurant, so we're expecting $50-$60. We were not prepared for when this check came and it was $120 for just the fish. Yes you read that right, $120. Woah. We said to our server that is ridiculous and he should let someone know that is what they are charging when ordering. He took off our round of drinks and guacamole, bringing the bill down $40. But that is just crazy. Shame on this restaurant for literally price gauging. read more
