We decided it was a nice night to dine outside and made our way over to Monty's. Monty's has been a Coconut Grove staple for as long as I can remember and it's for good reason. The restaurant sits next to the Coconut Grove marina, and is accessible by land or sea. The atmosphere always feels like you're on a Caribbean vacation. Our server was Iria and she was friendly, knowledgeable on the menu and perfectly attendant. She wasn't hovering over us but checked on us enough where we were perfectly taken care of. We started with an order of the peel & eat shrimp. This is seasoned with old bay and it was delicious; only complaint is they weren't cleaned very well, several of them were cut open but the "vein" was still very present. This is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5, probably should give 3 but the rest really made up for it. For the main courses my bf had the seafood pasta which he said was good, although the sauce was a bit plain (he described it as having a ragu flavor). I had the Baja tacos at his suggestion and boy was it a good recommendation. It comes with 3 tacos and they are packed with fish. They were absolutely delicious. The tacos also come with a small side of elote which had a strong citrus flavor, absolutely delicious. All in all, I don't know why we don't come here more often but we will. Monty's should always be an option when the weather is right. read more

Genuinely some of the worst service I have ever experienced. From the moment we arrived, the woman who seated us was extremely rude. She walked us to a table that was about to be directly in the sun, so we politely asked if we could sit at the table right next to it instead. Keep in mind, the restaurant was not very busy at all. She immediately told us no with an attitude that was completely unnecessary and honestly set the tone for the entire experience. Then our server brought out our $9 non-alcoholic drinks, and one of the glasses had what looked like actual dirt all around the rim. We pointed it out and asked to switch it for a tea instead. When he brought the tea, he explained that the "dirt" was supposedly just from the watermelon. It was 1000% dirt. Regardless of what they want to call it, the glass was visibly dirty and should never have been served to a customer. After that, our server barely came back to check on us. To make matters worse, when we received the bill, they had actually charged us for the drink we sent back because the glass was dirty. The food was below average as well, especially the fish dip. The non-alcoholic teas are also $9 each, which is insane considering the quality and overall experience. The entire establishment felt dirty and poorly taken care of, and the staff seemed more interested in standing in the corner gossiping than checking on their customers. This was our first time here, and we absolutely will not be coming back. The current 3.3-star rating is generous. Whoever owns or manages this place seriously needs to reevaluate the level of service and cleanliness because this experience was unacceptable. 0/10. read more

We just got off our 7-night cruise on Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas this morning and pick up a car from the airport to meet up with Brian for lunch before our flight home. He suggested Monty's since he has been here a couple of times. The place is huge and there was already a line before they even opened at 11:30 am! They have a live band that started playing right away so it made our meals more enjoyable. I didn't get a chance to snap pictures since we all started eating as soon as the food came. We shared appetizers - Gator Bites, very tender and flavorful! I highly recommend! The Yucca Fries (We've only had them in Sanc Juan) were so good! A must try, if you haven't had them. The Crispy Crab Cake Bites were utterly delicious! Main dish - I had the Grouper with mango salsa, black beans and rice. It was a good portion and was cooked perfectly. This place was phenomenal and would totally recommend. My husband brought me here to celebrate a big work accomplishment and we were blown away! Our waiter Tahiri was amazing! Monty's was a must-visit when I planned my trip back to Miami! My trip was perfect timing, because it was right when stone crab season was! Me and my friend split stone crab, the conch fritters, as well as the shrimp pasta. Everything was delicious! The shrimp pasta particularly surprised me in a good way! For my drink, I ordered the Tsunami and got the Coconut! So cute and fun, although it was a hassle getting it back home! I loved the drink as well! Stopped in while in town to get a glimpse of the past and Monty's has not changed at all - except the wait time! It was such a long wait time (2.5 hours) and out table was ready in 20 min - like how can you be so off? Nevertheless we got seated, the vibe was the same as back in college. Service was pretty good. It took a while for our server to take our order and he disappeared for a while. We didn't know who took over so it was kinda chaotic. As a Miami local, im shocked ive never visited Monty's until last weekend! I came here for a wedding welcome party, where the Groom's family rented out an intimate space for the guests. We had food from the reataurant and open bar (beer and wine) for a couple of hours. The space is so large, it accomodated around 70-80 people. The food was delicious and there was SO. MUCH. OF IT! From the apps to the entree to the desert, it was all delicious! There is a parking garage right next to the restaurant and another across the street which was very convenient! There is a marina directly outside where you can sit and admire the beautiful boats. They have many TVs each playing something different, so theres something for everyone. You enter and walk over to the seafood bar where you select all the shellfish your heart desires and pay in cash or zelle. Then you can take a seat at any of the tables and get drinks delivered to your table. Please note that they are 2 separate transactions & you can't order the shellfish at the table. Came to Monty's to meet up with my family after they got off the boat, and the location is definitely a plus. We got seated right away next to them, and our server was really attentive and took our order quickly, which I appreciated. The service was honestly the best part of the experience. We ordered the tuna tartare, mahi, filet, and chicken tacos--which the server recommended. Out of all of them, the chicken tacos were the best, but still nothing to rave about. You can definitely find better tacos at places that aren't even seafood spots. The mahi was a little dry, and the beans it came with were just okay. Like something you'd eat because you're hungry, not because it's actually good. The filet was fine but not memorable. And the tuna tartare was a bit of a letdown. The tuna didn't taste very fresh, and I eat enough sushi to be able to tell when it's not quite right. It's not that the food was bad, it just wasn't great either. Super average across the board, which is why I gave it 3 stars. Nothing stood out enough to bring me back for the food alone. I will say the atmosphere is nice, and I could see this being a good spot to hang out with a drink by the water. We didn't drink, so I can't speak on the cocktails, but if you're coming for the vibe and waterfront setting, you'll probably enjoy it. Just don't expect to be blown away by the food. read more

On this particular Saturday we went, there was live music playing in the afternoon, that had the crowd up and dancing and entertained. Being that we are in October that means we just entered stone crab season! So we were lucky enough to get our hands on some fresh stone crabs! Sold at market price, they were $12 a claw or 5 for $50. Monty's is always a great time! I love coming here in the cooler months since the view of the marina is so nice! I also like how there's plenty of parking and they validate for two or three hours! If you're coming during brunch or dinner hours on the weekend I highly suggest coming early since it gets pretty busy! Thankfully there are plenty of tables so the wait time isn't too bad.
