Very hidden place in Costa Mesa but trust your google maps! Located in a business center so ring the bell that's located on the chalkboard outside. Mixed fruit was horrible, definitely wouldn't recommend it. Mango was fresh and sweet. My favorite was the peach gum - I'm not sure how to explain it but it tasted like an Asian desert I've had before. This place's coconut jelly is so good! I like the peach gum with milk best. Their desserts are not too sweet, yet they can be. The watermelon coconut jelly is very good! The water from the watermelon really add flavor to the coconut jelly. Also, the mango with the coconut jelly adds some sweetness to the jelly, but not too sweet. I was really excited for a new coconut dessert shop to pop up in the area. After reading mixed reviews, I didn't really know what to expect. Visited on a Thursday evening around 8pm. The area is not super well lit, and it's located in a business area. I guess Kokonut shares a kitchen space within the Hood kitchen (kitchen warehouse that gives tours?). So my friend and I drove around the building a few times and couldn't find a sign. We eventually parked and walked up to this small chalk board sign that has a Ring doorbell. PRESS DOORBELL TO CALL SOMEONE TO LET YOU IN. The warehouse is locked and someone has to let you in. After being let in, we were taken to a small area with a few tables. There is no actual Kokonut shop or dessert bar. JUST A SMALL WAITING AREA WITH A FEW TABLES AND CHAIRS. The staff member hands us a menu. We order 1 strawberry and 1 peach gum. She explains how each is made and some of the highlights of the menu. A few minutes later she comes back with our desserts in a plastic bag (almost like to-go style). I don't think we saw her again. CHECK IN ON YELP TO RECEIVE A FREE DRIED COCONUT SHAVINGS TOPPING. These are not actually placed into your dessert, but on the side as it's pre-packaged. I think she said they're from China and that the date on them is the manufacturing date, not an expiration date. The desserts themselves were disappointing. It's a little plastic jar that is filled halfway with the coconut pudding and the other half is the fruit of your choice. Since I got strawberries, there were simply fresh cut strawberries. These also have a lot of mass so they just took up a lot of space and not much was provided. The peach gum is more of a jello-pudding consistency. It tastes like grass jelly. Nothing is sweet. It was disappointing that the coconut pudding only had a hint of coconut (you can smell it), but the flavor was very bland. $12 for a little plastic jar is ridiculous. OC is filled with better dessert places, and there's definitely room for improvement here. read more

The coconut pudding is not sweetened too much so it blends well with the fruit. The strawberries were all surprisingly sweet but still added a nice tartness. What a hidden gem! This place is like hidden inside of business complex so you don't think there is gonna be a dessert place but trust your google map! So we tried their mixed berry kokonut dessert and red bean & taro kokonut dessert. The coconut pudding is very smooth and delicious! Love the texture! This desert bar is a very nice place to get a quick snack. There is a good amount of pudding and the fruit is very fresh and delicious. The coconut flakes just makes the pudding. You have to put them. Personally, I am not sure if I would go again, because I don't care much for pudding. But if you enjoy pudding, I recommend this place. The only thing that was a bit confusing to me was the location. It's in the middle of a bunch of warehouses in a far off area. When I first saw this place on yelp, I thought it was just a restraint. It's really NOT worth the price. First off, the place itself is super hidden. After driving around we found their tiny sign, rang the door bell, and a girl came out to open the door. The shop literally consists of just 3 round tables and some chairs. I'm not sure how to describe it but everything is just placed in the hallway, at the back of some restaurant. Second, their options of payment. If you paid by credit card it'd be 3% service fee. So there's cash or paypal/venmo for you to choose from. The girl who works their asked us "how do you wanna pay" as soon as she placed our order down . (that took 20mins because there was no one else but her working). I understand this as they don't seem to have a system but this is just a bit sketch. Third, food - Everything just OKAY. Charging that much money just does not make sense. ALSO- she gave us this dried coconut flakes package, not sure the date on the label was manufacture date or expiration date. *Crossing our fingers* it's not the expiration date!!! We wanted to leave a few minutes after we came in and saw the menu, but we felt bad so we stayed. I feel like if the owner is not ready to open a proper dessert spot then don't. It's hard to find and there's not much place to sit inside so it's not very flattering/atmospheric. It was pretty good with the coconut flakes on top. It might be a little on the pricier side but I split the pudding with my boyfriend so it wasn't too bad. The amount you get I think is a lot personally so I can see why it would be pricey.
