When I first started seeing signs for Kol pop up, I thought it was such a whimsical spin on "coal." I was mystified that a Korean barbecue place would pop up here, but at the same time cautiously optimistic. I finally had the opportunity to stop in this past Friday, and it definitely exceeded expectations. The inside was nice and spacious with bar service, and each table had its own charcoal grill. The vent system is the mobile kind that moves up and down, and it kept the smoke to a minimum. Servers will usually help cook the barbecue for you table side, though you can opt to cook for yourself. Banchan: These were legit. Delicious kimchi, perfectly seasoned and sliced green onion salad, nicely pickled garlic leaves. Corn cheese: I liked the sweet corn, but found the cheese slightly gloopy and would have preferred a softer cheese that stayed melty longer. S Beef Combo: We opted for the S beef combo, which came with brisket, boneless short ribs, and marinated rib fingers. This was surprisingly a lot of food, so much so that we couldn't finish everything and had to take some home. The brisket was thickly sliced and nicely fatty. The boneless short rib was tender and delicious. My favorite was the marinated rib fingers, which weren't too sweet (my usual gripe with Korean marinades). Our server helped cook all the meats and did a really good job, but there were other tables that opted to grill their own meat. Veggies: A small variety plate of veggies for grilling included zucchini, onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. I thought this was reasonably priced and was a good portion for two, but larger parties may need to order multiple. Spicy mixed tofu stew: A small size came with the combination, and it had really nice flavor. The beef in this stew was slightly chewy, but the tofu was soft and fragrant and the kimchi flavor really came through. I'd order this again on its own. Complimentary soft serve: This was a nice touch to the end of the meal. A soft serve machine by the door offers vanilla, chocolate, and swirl options. Out of the complimentary ice creams I've tried, this was one of the better ones. I'm so excited to not have to constantly drive to Chinatown and beyond for good Korean food! I'll definitely be back.

The lunch specials are a good deal for 2 people. The stews are great. Flavor, simple, and filling. The staff were prompt and friendly. They booked our meat properly and quickly. The charcoal grills made the meat taste great. The meats were top quality. The sides were good. The kimchi was really good. Complimentary self serve soft serve machine was a nice touch. The inside is clean and vibrant. It's a place I'd come back to and try more stews and meats. It's rare to kind a kbbq that also has really good items other than meats melt

Service and food were great! Food was delicious with very good service. The ambiance was nice and casual. The area needed a place like this!

Delicious food, one of the first charcoal grill locations I've been to in the Houston area. Good prices, delicious meat, pretty cocktails. Feels like I'm back in Korea. Highly Recommend

My husband and i visited Kol Korean BBQ for the first time for lunch today. We heard it was tasty so we were excited to try it out for ourselves. When we walked in we were delighted on how nice the interior space was designed. The layout felt spacious, open and bright. The upbeat music in the background set the tone for an enjoyable meal. We ordered the Combo 1- spicy pork and the seafood pancake off the lunch menu. The seafood pancake was delicious and crispy and the spicy pork was flavorful dipped in the side condiment of sesame oil and salt. The banchans included were kimchi, mashed potatoes, fish cake, sliced onions and jalapenos, leek leaves in a vinegarette and a green onion salad. Megan was our server. She was so friendly and helpful in explaining the menu. She cooked our spicy pork on the charcoal grill for us and answered any questions we had with a sweet and professional disposition. Megan did an amazing job from beginning to end. All and all, my husband and I enjoyed our meal very much and plan on coming back with our kids.

It is sweet and a bit soupy from all the sauce. The noodles are chewy and bouncy, and get coated in the sauce nicely. There is a good amount of meat that comes with it too! The flavors are great. 2) Jaengbanjjajang: This is my go-to and personal favorite noodle dish to get here. It is similar to their original jjangmyeon except that it is less soupy and has a bit of spice. The spiciness adds a nice kick balancing the sweet and savory flavors. There are also lots of different mix ins like squid, shrimp, beef, and vegetables! The play on textures and contrasting flavors is why I love this dish 3) Spicy Chicken Wings (Yangnyeom): For not being a chicken wing restaurant, Paiks sure does serve some banger wings. Juicy big wings with a slight crisp on the outside. The sauce is amazing. It is that sweet and spicy yangnyeom korean fried chicken sauce. 4) Tangsuyuk: I never visit Paisk without ordering their tangsuyuk. Perfectly fried with a great chew. The pork is not too porky or gamey which is nice, and the sauce is a sticky sweet and sour sauce. 4) Gunmandoo: Their panfried dumplings are quite nice too! I haven't gotten them in a while, but they were solid Overall, I don't think there was a single dish I disliked here at Paiks. Service is standard, not too fast not too slow. The ambiance is not really one for dates or anything. It's super casual with metal chairs. It can get a bit cold. There are restrooms and water dispensers. They used to have the self serve yellow radish but now they just serve it with your meal. You have to clean your table yourself and put all the dish trays in the back

We ordered the ABC platter with NY strip, boneless short rib, pork belly, plus an extra side of bulgogi, which was more than enough for 4 people. The side dishes were fantastic and the staff happily brought refills whenever we asked. Definitely make a reservation, and enjoy your time here...they never make you feel rushed.

We got the combo thing with a bunch of different meats, and the large pork belly was cooked first so we ended up waiting for a good amount of time, and once we started slowing down the beef tongue cooked very quickly and faster than we could eat. The banchan were pretty hit or miss. The kimchi and salad were highlights. Overall taking away a star because I've had better experiences at other high end kbbq restaurants in different cities.

This isn't a soju bar with load music or upscale interpretation of Korean cuisine. From the lamination on the menus to the traditional rice pot cookers that come table side, this is clearly something the owners put plenty of themselves into. It seems to connect with the intended crowd as the multiple groups of Koreans that followed in after us, are usually a good sign. The food is of good quality and offered variable spice levels on many of the dishes, so you are able to decide what type of experience you're going to have. The tteokbokki are plump and the sauce balances the tangy, spicy, and slightly sweet notes you're looking for. The kimchi pancake was plenty kimchi forward but ended up not having all the crispy texture you can get from the scallion pancake cousin they serve. I order the Glabi and enjoyed my seasoning that it came with, nothing much to say either way here. The soondubu soup was full of tofu and not all too spicy on the medium heat level. I didn't fall in love with any particular dish, but I enjoyed all the options I went with.

We did the 3 meat BBQ combo, which easily feeds around 3 people and added a few extra dishes to share. We ordered the jahp chae, which is a stir fried glass noodle with vegetables and beef. It was AMAZING and probably our favorite dish of the night. Super flavorful but not oily at all which is rare for stir fried noodles. This was both of our favorites. We also tried tteok bokki, which is chewy rice cakes in a spicy sauce. They offer the option to add cheese and in hindsight I think that would have made it better. I was really excited for this one, but it didn't fully hit for me. It was good just not amazing and a little more spicy than I personally prefer. Lastly, we tried the yachae jeon which is a vegetable pan fried pancake, and WOW. It was huge, super crispy, and had sooo much flavor for a vegetarian dish. The meats and all the BBQ fixings were incredible. Honestly, every single thing that came to the table was amazing QUALITY and amazing FLAVOR. I also loved that the staff helps cook the meat for you which made the experience way more enjoyable. I have to shout out the customer service. From start to finish, the staff was amazing. They were patient with us as first timers, explained everything clearly, and made us feel super comfortable. We had a vegetarian in our group, and there were plenty of menu options for him. Our Korean friend ended up joining us and fully vouched for the restaurant's authenticity, which says a lot. Overall, this was such an exceptional meal and experience.
