The sushi is good (the best in Humboldt at least). The servers are attentive and appear professional. Management is on top of things. The restaurant is always clean. The portion sizes seem a little small but then again the prices are a lot lower than most sushi places I have been to. The only negative I have run into is having a dirty water glass served to me three out of the four times I have dined there. read more

My husband and I usually love this place for lunch! Never a problem good food at a great price. Well tonight a girlfriend and I had dinner and it will be the LAST TIME I EVER EAT THERE! The service was HORRIBLE, the twin sisters that work there (one is a manager) started arguing right in front of us yelling at each and then turned to my friend and I and started giving us attitude! Nice people, very clean interior, nice landscaping, excellent food. Sushi and Sashimi in a good variety. Chicken, Steak and Vegies for those who don't want fish. I've eaten there 7 times, 5 of those times I've gotten something new, but I like the Teriyaki Chicken bowl so much I had to have it two times. The fish was fresh. Two of the rolls I tried had been dipped in tempura batter, very good. It's nice to have a great place to get Japanese food in Fortuna. The prices were on a par with other Japanese places. The only downside was that I would have liked more feudal period decorations. However I'm sure those will come in time. If you're looking for a great change of pace definitely go, you won't regret it! read more

I first experienced Kome a couple of months ago and have since been fairly content with this restaurant as a convenient stop for lunch, takeout or an informal dinner. I absolutely love sushi and was excited to find out that this restaurant would be opening so close to home. The food is good, I've had much better, but it is satisfying. I appreciate having the option of eating sushi without making the trek to Eureka or Arcata. I enjoy the comfortable, casual atmosphere and at earlier points in the day it can be fairly quiet. One of the points that most bothers me though is their extremely limited selection of tea which leaves me rather disenchanted. Overall good but not fantastic; satisfying and convenient. read more

My mother, my 3 year old daughter and I went to Kome for the first time last weekend. It was excellent! The food was very good and the waitresses were very relaxed with my daughter making a bit of a mess (I try to keep it under control, but rice can be tricky when you are 3!). The seaweed salads were fantastic and the handrolls were also tasty! We will definitely be going back for more. I have had sushi in Japan and with my Japanese friends here in town. I thought the food at Kome was quite authentic. We are glad to have Japanese food closer to home! read more

I hosted a dinner at Kome Restaurant in Fortuna - Service was outstanding! Our waiter, Chris, suggested entrées, beverages, & desserts that fit perfectly with each of us - service was attentive & prompt - food was fresh - veggies had life in them - I loved the Golden Dragon Roll as an appetizer - miso soup was easier on the palate than most restaurants because it was not too salty - best part is that Kome is so affordable: $10.50 for a dinner!! they have done a great job of sprucing up an old Taco Bell building so that it looks like a real restaurant - nice, understated decorations & appointments - check out the water handles on the sinks in the rest rooms! read more

Very clean, very nice inside. The service was slow and awkward, I saw two groups get seated eat and leave at another table before we even got our check. The tempura is served with ice cold dipping sauce which totally ruined the meal. Worst tempura ever. The rolls were good though and the hostess was cute. We probably wont go back. read more

The three stars are for the service. The food is average and the prices are outrageous. The sushi rolls are small and basic. When I think of sushi this is not the first place I think of eating at. I am a total sushi snob. I've eaten sushi in many many places and I have a certain standard. If you are a sushi snob then don't waste your time. Drive the extra 20 miles to Arcata for great sushi. The food is very good and reasonable-spicy tuna=8pcs for less than 5.00 - a dragon roll for 14.00. You get a good amount and it's tasty. Last waiter I had was terrific, but my last waitress was more interested in other tables. They loved her, while I left irritated she didn't bring back my 7.82 in change for a 30.00 meal. Tried it twice. The first time so disappointing. The waitress called us "hey guys" (we are both older women). I ordered sunshi and was brought sashimi. Then the waitress said they didn't have sushi????? What at a Japanese restaurant? I told the owner jean who was at the register and she didn't really care. Seriously disappointing. The service was anemic and the food was second rate. The wrong kind of rice for sushi plus the fish didn't seem fresh. The "stir fried" vegetables on my plate were cold and just drizzled lightly. "Tempura chicken" was almost like a chicken patty I could get from a fast food restaurant plus it was accompanied with generic tasting bbq sauce. I would not recommend this restaurant unless they lowered their prices and even after that I would be reluctant to go again. Again, pretty dissapointing. I called in an order for Katsu Don. I should have checked my order because what I got was not Katsu Don. Katsu Don is a rice bowl, covered with onions and a semi sweet sauce, topped with a pork cutlet and an egg on top of that. The lady that took my order said they didn't have pork and that they make it with a chicken cutlet. I said, "okay, I'll give it a try." What I got was deep fried chicken strips with plain white rice and some kind of a dipping sauce, which I did not like at all. The salad that came with it was wilted, so I threw that out. Same with the rice as it was not very tasty without the onions and sauce. I would have gone back, but I was too far away from the restaurant. The end result was, I paid over $10 for chicken strips like you would get at Burger King. read more

I have always had a good experience going to Kome. I like the layout of the restaurant and the vegetarian options are good. I can't comment on the fish but everyone I've eaten with has been satisfied. Sometimes I think that the servers could stand to be a bit more graceful but this is definitely one of the nicer restaurants in Fortuna. read more

Very delicious (and creative) Japanese dishes in a tasteful, tranquil setting with very pleasant service at a fair price. I love the house special which is a combo-sushi roll lightly tempura fried and drizzled with a delicious sauce. I've also had the tuna and yellow tail sushi - both excellent. After ordering, one person at our table expressed enthusiasm for a particular item, and to her surprise, the waiter brought her a dish like the one she'd mentioned in addition to her meal -- they'd custom-made it for her "on the house". Hubby and I love this restaurant. He's not a fan of sushi himself but he really likes the Teriyaki chicken. Great place to take your visiting guests. I was delighted to find, on my most recent trip to Fortuna, CA, that Kome had finally opened. We were greeted by a smiling hostess who seated us, and a lovely, prompt and professional waitress who quickly brought our edamame, perfectly salted, and beer. Unlike other restaurants we enjoy in town, the bottles of wine were priced - within several dollars of what I pay at the store. The wine selection was small but there were enough choices of wine, beer, and sake for us to defintely plan to come back. I ordered an attractive tempura prawn roll which I would have preferred in a slightly smaller diameter, but it was delicious. we also ordered a spicy tuna roll, fresh and perfectly rolled and spiced, and the Sashimi Combo #1. The serving was generous, with the two pieces of salmon beautiful rolled into a rose, three pieces (instead of the advertised 2) of yellow fin, and two of tuna, all fresh and tasty. A second quiet server unobtrusively appeared and refulled our water glasses whenever they were low. The restaurant was spotless (critical for me) and the setting clean, simple, and somewhat elegant yet comfortable. Prices were reasonable, food was great, and the service was excellent. I have to give an extra half star for the reaction of the hostess and waitress when I noticed that a truck a short distance away on the main road appeared to have caught fire. They quickly dialed emergency response and kept things running smoothly in the restaurant despite other patrons rushing to the window to see what was happening. 4 1/2 stars - keep up the good work, Kome! The waitress was very nice so that is a plus for Kome. The rolls were all tiny, everyone at the tables rolls fell apart. You couldn't use your chopsticks because the rolls just crumbled. What you get for the price is lame and I'll never go back. Other Sushi places around Humboldt are worth it. read more

A doctor told us this place was good. He must have meant good for Fortuna. The rolls were all boring. The eel nigiri was the worst I've ever had, boney, muddy and cold. The server was a ditz.
