Had the unagi don, monkey brain (love the name, it's not as weird as it sounds!), and some tomago and chopped scallop sushi. The food was excellent and the staff was incredibly friendly. The food is great. It's a shame that the people who run it are unprofessional and made the most unwelcoming environment possible for me and my friends. My friend at one piece of her sushi when she realized it had cream cheese ( which she does not like) so she asked if she could send it back. The waitress asked the manager and said they could not. My friend was polite and said it was okay and tried to eat the roll anyway (did not demand a refund or cause a fuss. After this the waitress just began ignoring us, it took almost 20 minutes for her to pick up our checks even though she had seen them, was standing right by us, and was not busy at all. It was like her and a couple of the other waitresses were playing some sort of game to make us uncomfortable and the environment was just indescribable. They would look at us and whisper. I really don't know what we did. Needless to say we did not tip well because of the immature and unprofessional behavior. Will not go back. read more

This place is fabulous!!! We are not from the area, just visiting & was looking for some good sushi. Well we found it & was beyond our expectations. Now I was a little skeptical at first! Very small but quaint. In a hidden shopping center but worth finding! The only thing negative I can say is the sour rag smell from the moment you walk in. Kinda takes your breath away & continues threw the whole restaurant. They might want to use lysol or different cleaning supplies, I think it would help a ton. Sour rags happen easily & can make a table stink. At least that's what I think that smell was to me. Maybe I'm wrong but that did not keep us away & so glad because the food was FABULOUS!!! I don't think I've had fresher sushi. It was like butter, it was so delicious!! My partner tried almost every piece of sashimi & everything was excellent. I had the Lion King roll & it was to die for, melt in your mouth yummy!! The wait staff was so attentive & absolutely wonderful, making sure our experience was pleasantly satisfying. We loved it so much, we returned the next day for lunch before leaving town. Can't wait for the next trip to the area to eat here again!! It is definitely on my list of favorites!! Ordered takeout, and everything was delicious. We kinda made it difficult for them by ordering a chicken bento box for someone who is allergic to seafood. Komeya staff was very sweet and caring to make sure that there was no cross-contamination with fish/seafood. Grateful and happy with our order (we'll know better when ordering next time as we had no idea that bento box items like tempura have fish cross-contamination from oil - thank you for letting us know!) read more

First meal at Komeya Ramen & Sushi and I felt like I was transported back to Japan. Not only was the quality of the fish in all of the nigiri (salmon belly, hamachi, and escolar) incredibly fresh, without any hint of fishiness/stringiness/mushiness that can occur when raw fish is not handled/stored correctly, but the rice was delicious-I see so many sushi restaurants using clumpy, off-tasting rice that tastes like it's been sitting around for a while, but not Komeya. What was equally impressive was the quality of the house hot sake. Now, I know many would argue that heating up sake kills off any of the true flavor nuances so there's no point in using the good stuff for it, but that doesn't mean anyone likes drinking sake with a cloying aftertaste that lingers like the process of a massive headache in the morning. The house sake here is crisp, clean, and accents the food instead of fighting with it. Finally-the ramen! My husband says its better than Jinya, which used to be our go-to. I asked him to be specific because I wanted to write this review, and he says that for him, it's a combination of the the flavors in the broth and chashu being both deep yet clean. Many places lack one or the other-you either get no flavor, or everything tastes oil and heavy and you can clearly tell that no one cared enough to skim off the scum as they were making the stock. Komeya's ramen had umami without feeling oil-ridden, and my husband loved it. Komeya is probably not where you want to go if you like Americanized rolls or gold flakes/orchids on your nigiri, or a hip atmosphere like Uchi or Kata Robata where you can eat and people watch at the same time. This is a place to go if you like old-school sushi that plays on the strength of its ingredients and allows them to take center stage, just like they would be in a small sushi-ya in Japan. read more

Just left from here & this is the worst experience I have EVER had at a restaurant before. I called ahead of time on my lunch so that my food would be ready when I arrived. When I get there I get my food & go back to my car & notice that the wrong sushi is on my receipt. I walk back inside & let them know this isn't what I ordered. The girl at the front was rude & so was the cook. He took it from me & said he would fix it so I waited another 5 minutes. At this point if I don't leave soon I will be late clocking in for work. He brings it back to me & I checked it before I left the restaurant & it still wasn't right! The sushi I ordered was missing TWO of its ingredients. He said give him another 5 minutes to fix it but I said I don't have anymore time. They gave me the money back but now I'm back at work with NOTHING to eat till I get off at 5. They didn't even let me keep the soup AT LEAST for the inconvenience. They messed up 3 times & did nothing to make it right. All they did was treated me like I was the problem. Horrible customer service. Please take your hard earned money & valuable TIME elsewhere they don't deserve it! read more
