Listen... I've eaten my way through enough restaurants to know when a place is phoning it in. This was not that. From the moment we sat down, our server Joshua understood the assignment. He floated in and out like a service ninja -- drinks magically refilled, plates cleared, zero awkward "So how's everything tasting?" interruptions mid-story. Someone give this man a raise. Or a crown. Or both. We started with the Avocado Egg Rolls with the honey-cilantro dipping sauce, and honestly? A moment. They were warm, crispy, flavorful, and -- bless -- not greasy. Nothing worse than an appetizer that ruins your appetite. These just whet it perfectly. I went big with the Thanksgiving Special, expecting a cute seasonal plate. What I got was a full-on Food Network close-up. The macadamia nut-crusted turkey, shoyu cream, and sweet chili green beans came out looking like the chef whispered affirmations to the plate before sending it out. Portions were massive -- like "congratulations, you also get lunch tomorrow" massive. My partner ordered the Wagyu Steak Fried Rice, and while the flavors were on point, he did quietly say, "I wish there was more steak." Honestly relatable, but still tasty. Dessert was the Chocolate Cake with ganache and crumble. Normally chocolate desserts knock me out after two bites, but this one was genuinely balanced. Sweet without being aggressive -- a little chocolate hug, not a punch in the face. Now let's discuss my true passion: the Espresso Martini. I'm picky. I judge. I rank. And this one? Top 5 status immediately. Smooth, not too sweet, made with nitro espresso... this is how espresso martinis should be done. I also sipped on the Decoy by Duckhorn Merlot, which was giving all the right cozy, velvety vibes. And as if the night wasn't good enough, Joshua casually mentioned the rooftop lounge is reopening in spring. So yes, I'll be back. Probably before they even unlock the door. Perfect from start to finish! I love Kona Grill, and I drove 35 minutes from downtown SLC to eat here! It's a chain franchise but not very many of these in the country. I sat at the bar around 3 PM on Tuesday 4/1/25 a little after their happy hour started. Sara was excellent---attentive, upbeat, friendly, conversational, and professional. My meal consisted of one order the turmeric rice (regular menu item), two orders of the chicken satay (happy hour), one order of the angry edamame (happy hour), and the Kona margarita (happy hour but not). Because of rules in Utah, they can't charge the happy hour price for alcohol, only for food. All the food came out hot, fresh, delicious, and a generous portion for the price. The margarita was fresh, garnished well, tasty, and visually appealing. Tons of free parking out front. The ambiance was great. The bar was mostly empty. The interior is HUGE. I've only been to one other Kona (in Baltimore, MD), and this one has much more of a vibe, it's newer, it's cleaner, and their aquarium is actually clean and well maintained whereas the Baltimore, MD, one is straight-up trash. I would one-thousand-percent come back and highly recommend them, and don't forget to sign up for their Konavore rewards program. We have been here twice in the last month. Once was date night and today was an invite from friends. We will NEVER be back. We hoped the terrible service and long wait for our food was a one-off. It wasn't, and after waiting for an hour for our dessert we asked them to remove it from our bill, and we paid and left. Is it poor management, a slow kitchen,, or both of the above? We had such a great time here tonight and we got a ton of stuff off the happy hour menu. The burger was great and had a lot of cheese. I thought the fries were okay,, but the entirety of the rest of the food was awesome. It was my girl's birthday and they brought us some cake and ice cream, but the cake part was so amazing and I don't even know what it was. We had the macadamia nut popcorn chicken and the sauce that it came with was so great, it had a slight cheese taste also. The fish taco got a strong positive review in particular for the chipotle sauce. The surf and turf combo had some wild sauce that was enjoyed as well and the spicy chicken lettuce wraps. Sometimes I think that I'm missing out on really good menu items when I order "just a salad" but tonight, the salad was so amazing that I have no regrets. (I ordered the Sweet & Bleu, by the way). Earned 2 stars for no wait time, our server was friendly, it wasn't busy, and they have the "pay on at the table" option. We ordered the calamari, salmon, and a salad. The calamari was overcooked/greasy and they brought out the wrong entree salad. The salmon (side of rice) was simple and $35. The correct salad never came and we had to leave. Poke Bowl? More Like a Poke-ful Adventure! My quest for the perfect poke bowl at Kona Grill led me to an unexpected adventure. I emerged victorious, but not unscathed. First, the sheer number of customization options was enough to make my head spin. Edamame, seaweed salad, crunchy onions - it was like a flavor explosion waiting to happen in a bowl. Then came the protein. I bravely chose spicy ahi tuna, but let's just say the spice level was more "volcano erupting" than "tropical island breeze." I heroically devoured it all, but my taste buds may never be the same. In the end, my poke bowl was a delicious, tear-inducing triumph. I don't usually write reviews, so the fact that I'm taking the time to do this should tell you everything about how bad this place was. The waitress? Rude. The food? Lackluster. The drinks? Took forever my buddy ordered a beer and it showed up basically with the appetizers. And don't even touch the table games. They'll hit you with a sneaky $2.99 fee just for playing it without a pay to play warning. I played the mini golf for a few levels, just checking it out, and got charged. Cute. I asked to speak with a manager (twice) and was told they were "on the way." Never happened. I sat there for 15+ minutes while the waitress avoided eye contact like it was an Olympic sport. Ordered a ribeye rare , it came out half well done. Half......How does that even happen? On top of all that, the service crawls, the food is mediocre at best, and even paying the bill is a hassle. Instead of letting you just select what you ordered (like Texas Roadhouse does with the same system), they force you into splitting the whole thing evenly or paying in full. Because apparently making things harder is the theme here. Bottom line is I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. This place was wonderful. We loved it. It's clean, beautiful and the people were very friendly and helpful. I'm surprised that the bad reviews cause we loved it there. I had the grilled salmon and my girlfriend had the sashimi. The salmon came with roasted broccoli and rice, and it was very good. Excellent. We ordered an order of seasonal vegetables and had the asparagus which was grilled and it was delicious. My girlfriend had a glass of white wine, which I tasted. It was very good and I had a nonalcoholic beer. Sam Adams and I had not seen that nonalcoholic beer before. Our server was wonderful, young lady by the name of Reddi. Wife and I used to LOVE Kona back in Missouri and would go multiple times a year, post pandemic Kona definitely started to slide. After moving to Utah and tried this location once they opened and every time we've been it's just a bit disappointing. Value has definitely fallen off, they've removed sides from each dish, while ALSO increasing prices significantly. And quality seems to have gone down on certain recipes as well. I got the Sweet Chili Salmon and the rice is just jalapeño mush, the salmon is mediocre. The happy hour items are solid. But it blows my mind trying to charge $15 for edamame The staff here is typically cordial but both recent times we've gone around 8:30-9:00. Everyone seems to be focused on their end of day tasks and getting out by 10:00 on the dot, rather than waiting the tables. "We" moved the extra settings to the end of table where they remained for the entire evening. Hostess should have removed upon seating 2. No water until well after we seated and ordered beverages, and we had to ask for it. And had to ask for refill. 3. Server was not very knowledgeable, had to go ask for answers to our questions. 4. Didn't tell us about any specials or promos, we had to figure it out ourselves. Just happened to see the board in looking around. 5. House wine is Black Box? Come on, box wine for a 5 star (claiming) establishment is laughable 6. Out of several beers on tap.....on a Friday night..poor planning on mgmt. Literally the only reason this review got two stars instead of one, is because I still had a good time out with my girlfriends! First impression - gorgeous! The sign on the rooftop patio says "now open"! So we were pumped for a summer night on the patio!! Took another 30 minutes for the drinks to come out and for the knowledge to be shared that one of the drinks was not currently available....that would've been nice to know 30 minutes ago?? After almost an hour of being there, and not having any real food, yet, we took the chance to order our entrées before we had even received our appetizers. While we were ordering, almost everything was " out of stock" - mind you, it's a Wednesday night at 7 PM. I get the things happen and we are just human, but the disappointment just kept coming! 3/4 of our entrées came out, and like the considerate group of women we are, we decided to wait until the last entrée came out before we started eating. We have been here for over an hour, haven't received any refills on our drinks, haven't received our appetizers and there is no sign of our food. I will never come back here again. My wife and I have wanted to come to Kona for a while now and chose to celebrate our two daughters birthdays.. called and made a reservation to make sure we got a seat. We arrived into the restaurant right at out reservation time and was promptly seated right next to the door, annoying since the restaurant wasn't busy with plenty of open tables. However I wouldn't have mentioned the seating if the rest of the experience wasn't a train wreck. We sat for about 10 minutes until we were approached by our server. We already had our order in mind and gave it to the server. Wife and I went with the advertised Kona $39 deal and girls got Bento boxes. Took almost another 10 minutes to finally get my drinks, they ran out of the 7 dollar soda that I ordered which slowed the rest of the drinks. Now here is where this experience went off the rails. From the time we got our drinks to our daughters meals and our salads was 30 minutes. Not once did our server check on us to explain what the delay was. At this point we have been in our seats for 50 minutes. Salads were as expected, except the asian salad was meh. The girls bento boxes were okay but food was all cold, the Bento boxes advertise an orange beer but we're out as well. Literally into our second bites of our salads another server is bringing out mine and wife's entrees. Rather than move away, the server that brought the food and our server argued about why they were out already. Because I was uncomfortable with the situation of them arguing next to our table I quickly made room for the plates. Both wife and I ordered the 6oz steaks that came with fries. They were the sadest looking steaks accompanied with cold crunchy fries. I will give that the steaks were cooked appropriately to temp and were decently seasoned. Now my daughters are asian, and one ordered white rice with her meal and she leaned over to mom and told her that it was nasty rice. While eating our disappointing food, we're again weren't checked on. When we were ready for to order our deserts, about 70 minutes into the experience, we let our server know as she was passing. Took her about 10 minutes to come get our order. We ordered the chocolate cake and double stacked brownie to-go and a box for one of my daughters food. Now at 80 minutes in the restaurant. I sent my wife and girls out because my daughters were spent at sitting there. I had checked the bill with one of those tables side pay devices and checked the details of the bill. I noticed the chocolate cake was $15 but instead of the brownie offered on the Kona deal, was the kids brownie for a $1. Took another few more minutes to grab my servers attention, so long in fact that 2 other servers noticed and offered to help. Got it pointed out to our server, said she would fix it. Cool. By the time she brought the desserts, she showed me the updated bill where she removed the cost of the cake, but left the dollar brownie.. she told me it it was no big deal since she took the cake off the bill, gave me the stacked brownie in the bag and also put a cheesecake in the bag. At this point it was 1 hour and 50 minutes in the restaurant. We got home. Yes I had the cake, the new cheesecake but no stacked brownie, but still got the kids brownie. I would not recommend this place to anyone expect maybe my enemies. I do appreciate the other attentive servers who offered assistance. I would like to point out that we were never visited by a manager even after knowing there were plenty of mistakes, and who I think was a manager since he was wearing a black blazer setting him apart from the rest of the front of house staff, sure spent a lot of time at the table next to ours where 4 women were having a night out. We were in a stressful situation when another restaurant lost our holiday dinner reservation for 40 people that had been booked months in advance. On the day of the event, we were told they couldn't seat us at our scheduled time, which meant some guests with babysitters wouldn't be able to attend. After calling several restaurants with no success, Kona Grill came through in a big way. With less than two hours' notice, they arranged seating for all 40 guests, put together a menu they could execute, and had everything ready when we arrived. The service was outstanding, the food was excellent, and the entire experience felt seamless--especially given the short notice. I'm incredibly grateful to the Kona Grill team for their flexibility and professionalism. They truly saved our evening. I've since recommended them to coworkers and friends and will absolutely continue to do so. read more

I ordered a kids strawberry lemonade and it was brought in a tall glass, I didn't even get a chance to ask for a different cup bc he was at my table for 1s. Terrible terrible service. I hate writing bad reviews, but this review is for the restaurant to be aware of the server only. Last night my friend & I dined in (our reservation was at 6PM) and our server (an older male) took a while to greet us or to even get us some water. From there, he proceeded to act very strange. My friend and I believe he was drunk to be fully honest. A few odd things : He grabbed us some colored bendy straws and brought out a second glass of water (in a completely different cup) after about 30 minutes because "he felt like we needed it". Both of our first water cups were still full. We placed our order and he came back 20 MINUTES later to tell us that he forgot what we ordered and never put it in ... he kept saying he was having a really off day and that his mind wasn't right. We explained again what we had ordered, and then he came back a third time shortly after because he forgot again. He stopped by the table once telling us that we looked young and that we should be singing the songs that were playing in the restaurant. The interaction was just uncomfortable. After we got our food he disappeared. We ended up having a woman come help us close out our table and explain how to pay. We never saw him again. The food was good! I was a little skeptical about a place that claims to do sushi and steak well, but boy did they deliver! The sunset roll was one of the best sushi rolls we've ever had, and the filet was delicious and everything a good steak is made of. Juicy, crispy on the outside and flavorful. My husband also loved his pad Thai and the Brussels sprouts were so yummy. The evening ended in such a fun way when our waiter brought out such a fun dessert for our anniversary. We went the second night it was officially open. I've been to other Kona Grills and was excited to try this one. It's exciting to have more fun restaurants in Utah!! The entire vibe is YES!! Utah has such unexpected weather and I was in Riverton simply buying something off Facebook marketplace when a tremendous rain and wind storm started and I ran for shelter. I happened to run into Kona Grill and was instantly welcomed into a fun upbeat restaurant with huge windows on the south and west walls. I grabbed a seat at the bar where Brandon & Sara took such special care of me even though the restaurant was extremely busy with drink orders piling up. Based on the name I was expecting more Polynesian style food and I wasn't far off, it's a more upscale entrees for Utah. I ordered off their summer feature menu and loved every bit.
