I ordered a German chocolate style cake for my parents 50th anniversary. It was chocolate cake with coconut & macadamia nut filling. Janel was easy to communicate with and made the cake exactly as ordered. The cake was so delicious. I highly recommend ordering a cake from Janel.

10/10 recommend! Came to the Big Island for my parents anniversary. Ordered the cake a month in advance, Janel was so easy to communicate with. It was a red velvet cake with cream cheese filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. We followed directions and made sure the cake was sitting out 2 hours before we ate it and wow, SO DELICIOUS! The tropical flowers were so beautiful too.Came to Gypsea Gelato to pick it up.The cutest place. Super clean, plenty of places to sit and relax and a lot of cool artwork you can purchase. We tried the ube pie(I think it was ube it was purple)was soooo good we bought another one to take back with us. We tried the Kona coffee gelato and macadamia nut gelato...YUM! The woman helping us was so sweet I wish I would've got her name. Overall great experience, everything was delicious and will for sure be back eventually

Without a doubt 5 stars to Janel for her outstanding baking skills! She was prompt and patient responding to my many questions via email. I decided on a coconut cake with 2 layers of lilikoi filling and 1 layer of coconut filling. As you can see by the pictures, it was absolutely stunning and the taste was even better! Being at room temperature (out of the fridge for 4+ hours) made the cake softer each time we ate it! Pick up for the cake is at Gypsea Gelato. The gelato is delicious (huge serving) and the ladies who work there are really lovely. Highly recommend trying Kona Sweets Bakeshop, you won't be disappointed! Thank you again Janel

We were so happy with the cake that was delivered to us this past weekend for our friends birthday! The decoration & taste were great!

Loved this cake! Exactly what I asked for!

I planned a birthday trip to the Big Island coming from Scottsdale, Arizona. I knew I wanted a birthday cake from a local bakery and as soon as I found Kona Sweets' Yelp page, I knew I had to look no further. I emailed Janel about 4 months prior to the trip and she locked me in for a pickup for my bday, January 14th. Bonus that you can pick up from Gypsea Gelato, which provides more flexibility for pickup as Gypsea is open until 9p. I was torn between banana cake and coconut cake, but I knew I wanted the chocolate ganache in the middle. I asked Janel for her recommendation and she recommended the coconut, which I was excited about since I knew it would taste like a Mounds candy bar. YUM! I also asked her for Hawaiian themed decor and to write "Hau'oli La Hanau Chelsea" on the cake ("Happy Birthday Chelsea" in Hawaiian :)). Janel delivered on my request. We picked it up from Gypsea around 7:30p on Saturday. We let it sit in the car while we got dinner and then took it back to the AirBnB to dig in. The cake cuts extremely well and evenly. I could easily see why this would be the ideal wedding cake. My only disappointment was that the cake itself was really dry. I don't personally like cold cake, so I'm not sure if that added to it. It was stuff, dry, but the flavors were there. So I decided to put it in the microwave about 7 seconds and that did the trick. Still not super moist, but definitely more scrumptious. We ended up having some of the leftovers for breakfast the next morning! Would recommend leveraging Kona Sweets for any of your celebratory needs while staying in Kona! Janel does such a great job and is very friendly and accommodating.

Janel was patient while we text questions and tried to make a decision about what cakes to order. We made great choices! She is a master baker and when you taste her desserts it is clear that she uses quality ingredients. We ordered an 11 inch fruit tart. We also ordered a guava filling vanilla cake. Our seven family members thought the guava filling was delicious. We all gave the fruit tart a 10. Both were excellent and beautiful presentations.

I ordered a cake from Janel on just a couple days notice and she was responsive and accommodating. We received a delicious chocolate cake with Kona coffee filling for my husbands birthday. It was perfect in design (he's a triathlete and we were here for the Ironman race), perfect in taste and our larger enjoyed every last bit. Highly recommend Kona Sweets Bakeshop! Thank you again Janel!

We used kona sweets for our wedding cake back in 2017, we had a 3 tier semi naked cake and LOVED it (I don't like cake but I actually had SLICES of it on our wedding!) So for my wife's big 30 birthday last week I knew I had to get the cake from kona sweets again. And again, so delish! It was a semi naked, vanilla cake with lilikoi filling. Omgoshhhhh bomb. Any big event in our lives that require a cake, I'm going thru kona sweets

I had ordered a cake from Janel for my sister's graduation in Aug. I emailed her a few weeks out from the event and she was easy to get a hold of as she responded to my emails if not immediately, she replied back within 12-24hours. I had last minute changes but she was able to accommodate which I really appreciated. I wasn't specific on size or design, just large enough to feed 11 guests. What I received was beyond my expectations. I asked for a coconut chocolate cake and she made a coconut cake with chocolate ganache. Pick up was at Gypsea gelato on Kealakekua st and it was easy with no hassle whatsoever. She also packed the cake perfectly for my commute back into town ensuring that it will be safe during transport and all the handling from my car to the hotel to the restaurant. Janel delivered exactly what I wanted and more. The cake was beautifully decorated and delicious. I wish I had taken the rest home with me but I was unable to because we were flying out early the next morning and the hotel fridge was too small to save leftovers. This is definitely the place to order your custom cakes if you're in Kona. Janel's cakes are not only a work of art but they're also super ono! Thank you Janel!

For our Kona destination wedding, we worked completely online with Janel and everything was fantastic. The communication was great and it was super easy to pay our deposit and final payment with link via email. We ordered a vanilla cake with lilikoi filling. The cake was delivered on time and was absolutely delicious!

I was flying in as a surprise for my mother's birthday. Janel could not gave been easier or nicer to work with. The cake looked amazing, she was dependable and communicative, fast to respond, and it tasted incredible. The best cake ever, and it turned out beautiful. Definitely worth driving a few extra minutes to get what you really want.

Found this amazing shop on Yelp. Easy to talk to and got exactly what I wanted and more! Hubby and co loved every bite. We didn't even wait for the recommended "leave the cake out for a bit before eating" because it looked so darn good! Every bite was heaven and everyone wished she was on Oahu where we live! Thank you so so much for everything and cannot wait to visit the shop again soon!

I can't believe it took me so long to write this review, it's been about 16 months since our wedding. I didn't get to meet the baker, but Kona Sweets saved my wedding day when my other vendors dropped out. I didn't want to stress anymore, so we asked for a simple, naked-style tiered cake, with alternating layers of vanilla and lemon flavored cake. I did not get to do the tasting so I wasn't sure what the end-product would be like but oh my gosh, it was amazing. The cake, first off, was beautifully done and decorated with fresh flowers that matched our decor perfectly. The cake itself was the best wedding cake I've ever had. I'm not exaggerating since it was my own wedding and everything; it was REALLY good. Usually, I don't care for cake...especially wedding cake, which I feel tends to be dry and artificial tasting. But Kona Sweets' cake was the most tender, flavorful cake I've had. My only regret is that I didn't save the top tier of our cake! I forgot to ask the servers to not cut into it but oh well, I guess I just have to go back to Kona and order a cake for myself. So yeah, here I am writing this review so many months later. I made myself sit down and do it because I can't stop day-dreaming about the cake!

I decided to stop halfway through my Turkey Waffle Sandwich (which was delicious and will definitely finish off when I have room) to help my kid finish her smoothie bowl since it was melting. So much fresh fruit in the refresher! I had the Kona Coffee Shake. It's like a sweet mocha latte. Will definitely finish my turkey waffle sandwich later! My kids loved the 3 cheese flatbread. I grab the ladybug, and take a bite. Wow that was so good. I kept eating it and each bite got better and better. The chocolate mousse surrounds a delicious raspberry middle that has BLUEBERRIES INSIDE! Absolutely divine. There is hardened chocolate to make the design and the crunch adds to the deliciousness. Every bite was delicious and the worst part was when I finished the lady bug I had no more left:(. The raspberry lingered in my mouth and I got to have the delicious taste in my mouth.
