I write very few reviews, but I could not be silent on this one event. I have been dining at Wazwan since Emeryville Public Market opened around 1990. Wazwan has been renamed as Konarq. I have always asked the cashier to select the lightly cooked and not burned on the bottom naan along with Tikka Masala or other dishes and I would pay and be on my way. On some occasions like this one, I would make this request and wait for the naan bread while a new batch was being baked while I waited for ones that are lightly baked. I had always requested that my naan bread not be burned on the bottom from being left in the naan oven too long. On this day Aug 8 2022, I asked for lightly baked naan and I was assured it would be baked lightly and not burnt, so I waited and trusted him. I paid for the naan and picked it up after he had it wrapped and ready. The cashier assured me that it was lightly baked. When I returned home and opened the foil, it was darkened with burnt edges. This may be okay for some customers but not a healthy option for me. ' So I drove back and presented this to cashier. He says the baker would bake another batch because he did not see the wrapped naan when he gave it to me the first time. What happened next was the same result, burned naan. He then said, that is how the bread is made and he could not deliver a lightly baked naan and pointed to the temperature gauge. He then asked me, if I would like a refund. In more than 30 years I had never requested a refund especially in exchange for an excuse. I have ordered naan at this restaurant countless times and naan at restaurants throughout the bay area and I have never received burnt bottom naan and I have never heard of this excuse. My take is that bakers are aware that darkened and burnt bread is the result of an oven that is turned up too high or bread that left in the oven too long. An oven that is darkened with soot is turned up too high. I love naan and I know refined carbs are not a healthy option, but add burnt bread to the mix and it becomes an even unhealthier option. One conclusion is that the oven is turned up higher to bake bread faster during lunch or the baker and or the restaurant owner is not mindful in their baking procedures. If you loved Wazwan, then this can still be Wazwan for you. Everything looks the same. Colorful and aromatic foods are on display, ready to serve. More than just the name has changed. If you love Indian meals, snacks, sides, then Konarq should meet your taste buds. I'm really happy I recognize at least one face from my many trips here over the years. In my opinion, this is Wazwan with a new name. That "name" left the business, probably due to a rights of use issue. To see that Wazwan is "closed," was confusing at first. During the pandemic of 2019, I learned to come here for meals togo. I can park my compact car in back of the Market Place to jump into the food court, grab food to take-out, and be gone in minutes. With Konarq, I see the food handlers loading my takeout containers with my selections; there is never an error. This is a point-and-shoot situation. The ingredients seem very fresh. And the main courses seem to have been freshly cooked too. If you find better prices for the portion/quality please let me know where. This market place is probably a crazy high rent zone, if you ask me. Konarq always satisfies my appetite. At this point, i get really agreeable. I'll still focus on my main points though. Even if I'm satiated I'm not letting go of my personal opinions. For that, you have to apply alcoholic beverages. Five Stars: The staff know what's cooking. They answer questions. They do Apple Pay. In price, portion, and speed, they cannot be beat. The flavor is nothing special, but it gets the job done. I had the tiki masala, which was not hot or spicy, but it had a good favor profile. It was decent tandoori dark meat chicken (as it should be) and I actually liked that it was a little sweet. Would not recommend the lassi, it was mediocre for a full price. read more

Quick and easy. I got the chicken saag, it comes with rice and salad. It's a good deal. Also ordered the samosas it comes with a sweet tamarind sauce and green one. Both amazing! They should sell those sauces. This food stand is in the public market which is great! They have a trivia game on Friday's it's such a fun ambiance! read more

Mutton Curry and Mango Lassi are great! They do have bones in Mutton Curry but I don't mind it at all. Don't like their Gulab Jamun though

Absolutely terrible and nothing like Wazwan (the former restaurant here, which they are imitating). Veggie curry: overcooked frozen mixed veggies with no spice and an off taste. Chicken curry: cheap meat and old oil. Samosas: bitter tasting, gray mashed potatoes (and nothing else) poorly wrapped in wonton skins. The skin was soggy, so they were probably fried several hours earlier. Instead of offering 25+ varieties and doing them badly, they should focus on 6-8 recipes and really learn how to make them well if they want to survive in this location. read more

This used to be one of my go to lunch spots. New owner, new menu, new prices. I like to eat a balanced meal. I like meat and vegetables. I used to go here to get decent Indian food. It has never been exceptional, but they are heading downhill from meh to don't bother. First, I will not return unless they bring back combo plates. I used to pay the extra for a third item. Now, I can not afford two items for my occasional lunch out. That severely limits my choices as I eat meat and vegetables. Aloo Gobi is one of my go to items at any Indian place. It always has cauliflower and potatoes. There was no cauliflower. It was potato and lentils. How can you even call that Aloo Gobi? The flavor is lacking. Sorry, Vic's is far better at competitive prices. Also, Deli Dinner on Telegraph. More food, much more flavor, combo plates for reasonable prices, everything I want in a lunch or casual dinner spot. read more

I want to like them I loved Wazwan and thought they were the best Indian food in the east bay, but their prices have gone up and the quality of the food has gone down Today I wanted the 2 item combo, they charge $4,50 for the 2nd item but the tandoori chix wasn't ready. Then it turned out someone In Our party wanted to eat there so when he was done eating I went back to see if the tandoori was done It was and I asked if I could get it now and add to my to go plate -now it would be a side plate for $8, I passed I shouldn't be penalized because they haven't figured out how much to make. Also other times, We have gotten there 15 min before closing and they were cleaning up and wouldn't sell to us Yeah bad customer service I hope they learn read more

Recently opened at the Emeryville Public Market. I tried the Tandoori chicken regular (regular comes with rice and small side salad) and the chicken wrap. Both tasted yummy and fresh! I appreciated the small side salad with garbanzos to round out the meal, though I found myself wanting the (I'm assuming) yogurt-based sauce to be more tangy. You can also choose small or large size of many of their dishes a la carte, so if you prefer naan or you'd rather make your own rice or do a family style order you have options! Konarq seems a solid choice when I'm craving Indian so I'll be back. read more

Well I've been going to the public market for 20 years and I thought Wazwan was becoming mediocre over the years so was glad to know someone else was taking it over. I chose Tikka chicken made with a cashew thickened sauce that was delicious and also Saag Paneer over basmati rice. Mango lassi was also excellent and not too sweet. Wish they had a combo offer but they will give you more than one dish. I will definitely be back. read more

Yikes. I hold chicken tikka masala to a high standard, and when I order some I usually expect a buttery orange chicken. Theirs tasted like boiled chicken that they added a sauce to as an afterthought. The sauce is some kind of tomato curry, needed more flavor and seasoning. The salad is good, and the rice is clumpy. I don't care how delicious it is, that's insane. $30 for two items and a mango lassi post tax. Doesn't come with naan. That's extra. There's better Indian food for cheaper prices IMO. I won't be back for these prices. Bought an octopus salad at another vendor in the market, same size, seafood, special ordered and it was $17.85 with tax. It's one of the cheapest, most filling places to eat in the food hall. I've tried the Chicken Tikka Masala, chicken Masala and chicken curry. The tikka masala was more of a tomato sauce than a yogurt sauce. masala was a step up. But the Chicken curry I got some light lip burning from the spice. Finally got some spice. With each dish, the chicken was so soft, I could shred it with a spoon. The salad is watery but it helps to counteract everything else with the crunch, sesame seeds and slight acidic flavor helped. The naan bread is large and cheaper than other places I've seen. The regular naan bread is slightly sweeter than others I've had but the price is worth it at $1.50. Overall, if you are at the food court and don't want to spend more than $14 on a full meal go to them. The amount of food they give you will fill up you up for more than a few hours. The service is friendly and quick too, never had to wait for them to fulfill my order. The point I took off is mainly for spices. Chicken Tikka Masala did not look or taste like it. Their spicy equals light tingling on lips and not flames on the side of my face. read more
