A row of colorful pots lines the counter at Konarq, a casual Indian eatery in Emeryville's Public Market. The wide selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian entrees were ready to be dished up in takeout boxes, and my choices were the Masala Chicken, made of tender chunks of dark meat chicken in a spiced gravy made with tomatoes, dairy, and cashews; and the Saag Paneer, made of puréed spinach and cubes of cottage cheese. While the spices in these items were a bit toned down, I absolutely loved the Fish Curry, which unlike the other entrees, was made to order and came with an entire filet of a meaty Pacific whitefish in an intensely tangy and spicy red-colored curry! With the entrees came a pickled cabbage slaw, and a chewy, doughy naan bread baked fresh in the tandoor oven--perfect for dipping into and eating with the curries! While the spices in some of the dishes were toned down, the food was still delicious and came at a good value with super friendly service (especially for such a casual eatery) and generous portions too!

Liked the food. May not be 100% authentic in flavor but I liked the taste nevertheless. The side of rice so well made. Please note, it is not one of those usual Indian spice filled biriyani, but I still liked it. It was honest. So many curries to choose from. The naan was a bit sweet, but it was just made in front of me and so fluffy and fresh. Portion size was decent, so was the price. Liked it overall.

First time trying Konarq at the Public Market. I came by for lunch and it wasn't busy at all. Ordered the eggplant and there wasn't much flavor or spice at all. The salad was bland too. The only thing that had flavor was the rice. Probably will try something else or skip next time. Service was minimal.

I wasn't hoping too much about this place, but it turned out...omg...what a wonderful spot. Their curry sauce was right on spot, the meat was tender, mixed and cooked well with the sauce. Their vegetables, omg, so good. I don't know what sauce or oil they use, but it tastes so good. I came back and asked for more. Their garlic naan is also good yet different than other places. They used minced garlic, rather than freshly chopped garlic. It added some special flavors. I will definitely come back. What a good place.

Loovvvvveeeeee the Chicken Masala (made w coconut milk) - delicious and comforting. Comes with a side of long yellow rice and "salad" (tiny portion of cabbage slaw - which was good). Will be back for sure to order this dish and add a side of Naan. It's addicting...

Since I was a teen I've been coming to Emeryville market. This restaurant is one of few that's been there and survived all the changes. Food is always good! Chicken vindaloo and the lemon honey chicken is always my go to along with their garlic naan. Good portions and flavorful.

If you're fortunate enough to have access to Konarq at the Emeryville Public Market, do not walk, do not pass go, RUN straight there and snag what I think is the best damn meal deal in all in the entire San Francisco area. I got a generous, overflowing container of bindhi masala with a light veggie slaw situation and seasoned yellow rice AND two super stuffed samosa for less than a single cocktail will run these days. In truth, you could be totally full and satisfied with just the samosa alone (and they ring up at 2 for $4!). These babies are coming in hot, steaming with tender curried potatoes and peas, wrapped in a flaky, buttery, and crispy fried pastry, clearly made by hand with care. You're not gonna find food like this in the freezer aisle, or in just any restaurant, for that matter. It's even worth a drive over the Bay Bridge in rush hour traffic- Which is really saying something, IYKYK.

Konarq replaced Wazwan in the Public Market. Indian food as usual. scoop ready in small pots. all orders come with rice and cabbage salad. . offerings: appetizers, desserts, vegeterian, non-vegeterian, breads, sides, drinks. eats: curry rice (12) -the white rice was fresh and plentiful -the curry wasn't spicy, wasn't as tasty as other places. the chicken was tender, not dry as the norm in some Indian curries. there was a lot of food. didn't finish it all. had the rest for dinner. 3.5 stars possible repeat with another entree. leftovers: -lots of seating in the public market. -parking lot wasn't half full

I was looking for something affordable and veggie based before heading to the movies at Bay Street. I walked around the entire food hall and settled on Konarq. My pic isn't the most appealing, sorry, but the saag paneer, rice, and cabbage-cumin salad were all so delicious that my plans of saving half for tomorrow's lunch went out the window.

Chicken Saag (3 stars - meat is slightly on the salty side). I think Wazwan, the predecessor was better

The bindhi masala was so bad (tasted not fresh and had hard/over cooked pieces) that I had to throw it out.

Pretty good and fresh. And affordable too. Better than a lot of fancy Indian restaurants.

If you didn't know, know ya…read moreknow...located essentially across the way from CAL in Berkeley, East Bay Spice to me is a hidden gem filled with such nostalgic memories shared with friends over the years. They closed for a time, and now seem to be thriving again! Heading to the Greek for a weekend show, we wanted to pop in somewhere close-by. We cozied up to bar seating, and enjoy a couple of martinis featuring local gin and vodka, and ordered some food to share: the Original Tikka Masala Flatbread (we had to finally try it!), and the Sev Puri Chaat (first time trying this ever!). Service was amazing, and if I could write this review purely on the originality and creativity of the menus, I would (see pics!) The menus were CD cases (remember those, ha) with a fun take on 'Spice Girls', titled 'East Bay Spice Company'. For Spice Girls fans, you will recognize what album this was derived from. Each page of the cd book was a different part of the menu, including drinks, happy hour (from 2-6pm), and food. So fun, and unlike anything I've ever seen before. The food was so fresh and delicious. Loved the pomegranate seeds and lightness from the Sev Puri Chaat, bite size garbanzo bean/potato goodness! And standing O for that flatbread..pro-tip: get a side of the Tikka Masala sauce to pour on top. Absolutely amazing. I'm a huge fan of Tikka Masala, and having that sauce be a base for a pizza...come on!! We did chicken as the protein. Overall, so happy to return and have East Bay Spice back apart of the Berkeley rotation again. Small, dimly-lit, cool digs. Also check out their sister spots: Tap in Lounge and Tipsea in Berk, Blue Rabbit Bar off San Pablo, and Lemon Drop in Alameda.

The presentation was impeccable, and the sauce was rich, creamy, and full of flavor. The chicken seemed like a leaner cut, possibly breast, but it was still tender and not overcooked. I thoroughly enjoyed this plate and would 100% come back to order it again. My husband ordered the flatbread, though I can't remember the exact name, and it was surprisingly delicious as well. It tasted almost like a pizza version of the chicken tikka masala, making it a great shareable option if you're looking to snack, chat, and enjoy cocktails. Speaking of cocktails, the bartenders seemed very knowledgeable and helped me choose a drink based on my preferred spirit and cocktail style. I ended up with the Skeleton Key, which was strong, but still paired well with the meal. I'd happily come back to try more cocktails and, of course, order that chicken tikka masala again.

One space from the corner is Udupi Palace and the Corner space is a Turkish restaurant that once was a breakfast spot that I used to frequent back in 1984. A memory jolt from times long ago when I worked for a minute across the street at a modern furniture store-"The Apartment Store."
