We got buzzed in, and then dryly told us, "wrong number" then we had to stand in line since the buzzer had already been set off, we waited 45 minutes for two Cuban sandwiches, and they didn't even apologize for the wait. The Kooky coconut is just that..kooky. I loved the laid back atmosphere and nice, quiet surroundings. There's only a few tables indoor and out but it wasn't too busy on our visit so there was plenty of seating. There actually is alot to chose from on the menu. Cubans are great! That's where it stopped. Be sure to ask prices, their website is waaay off. What should have been a $50 order per the website ended up being over $75. The staff reply was "we can't update the site - we just have to charge the prices we're told". Cubans aside, the tortilla chips that came with the tacos and quesadilla were stale. The side order of guac tasted like green onion dip - no avocado flavor. Two orders of that was $16!! And we couldnt eat it- the tortilla chips with these were stale too. The chaos behind the counter caused me to change from using a credit card to using cash because customer cards were being passed between staff members. There are only a few tables inside, a cute courtyard/patio with picnic tables for outside eating, but highly recommend picking up take out sandwiches and walking to Indian Rocks Beach for a picnic! You should definitely stop here for Cuban sandwiches. So worth it! We ordered both the Tampa Cuban and the island Cuban and we were not disappointed. The people before and after us ordered four-six Cubans in their orders. Apparently if you're ever in the area and craving a sandwich, this is the place to grab them. It stands like a lighthouse directing people from far away to come inside. You can either enter from the front sidewalk or the back parking lot. They also have a mix bag of other snacks like burritos and tacos and...wait for it...a Walking Taco which is a bunch of taco fillings inside a Doritos bag. Best Cuban sandwich ever! Also had the Rueben Cuban-very good!! Went up on Saturday and Sunday. Steady busy Saturday early evening and VERY busy Sat at dark. This place also serves ice cream, beer and souvenirs. You can sit out back and eat at the picnic tables. It does take about 30-35 min for your order which is I think is a lil long for a sandwich but I appreciate that it's made to order. Sandwiches are absolutely delicious--take my word, they also have a lil Mexican menu too. The only thing that made me give 4 instead of 5 was the mgr and her disposition Sunday evening. She was stressed, it was busy but smiling and meaningthank you would have been better than the frown we received. We went by this place when we arrived on vacation at Indian Rocks Beach, thinking they only served ice cream. It turns out they offer up one really good Cubano... maybe one of the best on the Gulf Coast. The Kooky Coconut is eclectic but you won't be disappointed with a visit. Located on a public beach access lane, the Kooky Coconut looks like an oversized Tiki hut. The sign on the front makes you think they just have ice cream, but when you go in (or check their webpage) you'll find out they have more. The Kooky Coconut serves burgers, sandwices, hot dogs and several good Cuban sandwich options, including the traditional and the "Tampa-style" which added onions and tomatoes. The building itself is nothing at all fancy. The have lots of outdoor seating but terrible parking. Being on a public beach access probably doesn't help with the parking problems. The interior is painted bright green and red and is covered with seashell "art" that is available to the public for purchase. There aren't many seats inside and the counter is basically just an ice cream counter, but they do have the full kitchen. If I remember right, they had at least 20 varieties of ice cream available, including one I couldn't help but trying - Key lime pie. It was really good, full of tart lime but the right amount of sweet cream to make it taste like a real Key lime pie. I had the traditional Cubano and it was fantastic. You can get three sizes (6" / 9" / 12"). The traditional was loaded with savory Cuban pork, ham, pickles, cheese and mustard. I think this might be one of the best Cuban sandwiches you can get on Florida's Gulf Coast, but since I haven't sampled many I can't say for sure. It certainly was great. Stopped for a late lunch when hubby and I were exploring Tampa Bay. Even though I was tempted to order a Cuban sandwich, I chose the crab cake sandwich with a Mango smoothie. Hubby chose a double cheeseburger and a vanilla milkshake. Our order was handled cheerfully by a new employee, and we decided to sit in the sun behind their building on their patio. Our hot sandwiches came out quickly on the most delicious Kaiser rolls, and our drinks followed right behind. My crab cake was actually two cakes (a double helping) with fresh lettuce and tomatoes, embellished by a homemade tartar sauce on top. It was almost too much and I should have eaten half and brought half home, but it was too good to stop eating it! My husband's cheeseburger was also just as hot and fresh. He enjoyed the milkshake so much he didn't even offer me a taste! We stumbled upon this wonderful gem and will definitely visit again if we're in the area. read more

I'm from Miami, so I have high standards on Cuban sandwiches. My wife is Cuban as well, so her standards are also high. We both enjoyed the Pesto Cuban here. The bread, ah the bread, it just wasn't quite right though. Everything else was excellent. It was a nice big sandwich, but you pay for the size. It's also not the thickest sandwich, especially considering the price. However, it's a great option on the beach. I called ahead and it was ready and waiting. It's a quick walk to the beach. Definitely a great location. They give you a bag of chips with the sandwich, it's only 1 ounce though, but still it's a good way to switch the flavor up. I know there are many 5 star reviews, to each his own. But comparing this to places in Miami or Tampa, it doesn't quite hold up to some of the better Cuban's I've had.
